Phases of the Moon and Their Psychic Associations

The different phases of the moon do have an effect on your psychic talents. Here is the information, along with tips for working with your divinatory tools, such as runes or the tarot. Consider how this lunar phase/psychic information will affect the spells that you cast on a Monday. It will all depend on what phase the moon is in when you cast, which means you have lots to learn and plenty to experiment with. There are many layers to witchery and magick. The best way to up your game and to increase your skills is to practice, experiment, and see how the magick works for you.

FIRST QUARTER: (new moon to the waxing half moon) Now is the time when your psychic power is starting to build; you may feel more “tuned in” and more compassionate and sensitive to other people’s emotions. Your dreams and their divinatory meanings become clearer. You may notice that your animal allies, or totem animals, show up more in your life, so pay attention to their messages. Work your divinatory tools now to get a clear picture of what is beginning to unfold in your life at the present time.

SECOND QUARTER: (waxing half moon to the full moon) During this lunar phase, your emotions and senses get turned up to “high.” (Think of it as riding a psychic wave of sorts: it builds as the full moon gets closer, peaks, and then you start to ride downward.) Precognitive dreaming is more likely to happen during this particular lunar phase. At the full moon phase itself, you will probably notice everything in a more detailed and magickal way, so work with it when it hits. Intuition and clairvoyance abilities will peak as the moon waxes to full. Employ your favorite divinatory tools now to see the past, present, and future.

THIRD QUARTER: (day after the full moon until the waning half moon) As the moon wanes, the focus begins to turn within. Pay attention to your inner voice-your instincts and gut hunches. This is not the time to ignore that inner monologue. You may find that you are “hearing between the lines,” meaning you are hearing or sensing what is unspoken, so think before you speak. Ride the back of this wave of lunar energy and realize that the energies around you can be used to your benefit. Tune in to your own spirit and meditate. Work with divinatory tools now to see what is hidden from you.

FOURTH QUARTER: (waning half moon until the new moon) At this point of the moon phase, some folks may find that their psychic talents go on holiday, or you may notice that they come howling in with an all-out assault on your senses. The reason for this is, I believe, that during this last waning lunar phase, all psychic work turns within. This often forces a person to contemplation, and it nudges them into turning their psychic abilities and all that focus within. Then they gain the opportunity for self-discovery. discovery. Work with your divinatory tools now to gain an appreciation for what events and people have led you to this point of your life. By looking to the past, we can acquire a good overview on what has brought us to the point we are standing at now Then we may gain understanding, wisdom, and insight.

Waxing Moon Meditation

A Dragon in the Sun (PDB)

Waxing Moon Meditation

Make yourself comfortable, close your eyes and focus on your breathing….deep breaths in and out….Visualize the real world disappearing.

As your world dissipates you find yourself at the foot of a hill, the grass is green beneath your feet and you can feel a gentle breeze on your face.

The lush grass is scattered with white daisies and you can smell their fresh scent in the air.

A small narrow track leads up the side of the hill in front of you, twisting and turning, spiralling its way up to the top, so you decide to follow it.

As you walk, following the path round and up with each step, release any stresses and worries that you are carrying with you….

Look out across the scenery, what do you see? What sounds can you hear?

Look out for any wildlife along the way.

Take deep breaths of cleansing, refreshing air as you walk. Walk on, continuing to ascend the path, heading always upward.

When you reach the top of the hill you lay down on the grass, lying on your back and looking up at the sky. Watch the white, wispy clouds as they float pass in the bright blue sky. What shapes do you see?

In the distance you see a darker cloud and realize that in the opposite valley there is a light rain shower, but the sun is still shining on your hilltop. After a short while a beautiful rainbow appears.

As you lie on the hilltops, allow yourself to draw renewing, invigorating energy from the rainbow, it is a gift from Mother Nature and she is happy to share it. Take as much as you need.

When you are ready, stand up and take a long look around at the landscape.

Then start to make your way back down the hillside, slowly following the pathway as it spirals down until you reach the foot of the hill.

Give thanks to Mother Nature and come back to this reality. Stamp your feet and wriggle your fingers.

The Waxing Moon

Mother Nature Witch's invocationThe Waxing Moon

The Waxing Crescent Moon occurs 3 1/2 to 7 days after the New Moon. She rises in the mid-morning and sets in the evening. The Moon’s light is quickening. As the Moon has dropped back until she is about the ?th of the way behind the Sun, we see her lumination as a crescent shape.

You will see the first quarter Moon from 7 to 10 1/2 days after the New Moon. She will rise around noon and set around midnight.

As the Moon is at a right angle to the Sun the difference between high and low tide is minimized. Between light and dark are in balance, the Moon will appear to be a Half Moon, but the area of light will continue to grow each day.

The Waxing Gibbous Moon occurs between 10 1/2 and 14 days after the New Moon. She rises sometime in the mid-afternoon and sets in the early dark hours of the morning.

As the Moon has fallen back about ? of the way behind the Sun, one side of the Moon is seen fully and the light on the other side bulges out, but does not yet fill all of the Moon’s face.

Now your projects can get into their stride. Be aware, however, that overstrains are more likely at this time and that the body take things in and absorbs them more readily with a Waxing Moon.

It is also good time to build yourself up if you have been unwell or otherwise off-colour. Absorbing, boosting your energy and taking up supplies are crucial now. Go on an active holiday, get in touch with friends, plan a party, arrange meetings and increase communication.

As Full Moon approaches, notice what isn’t working and shed it in order to focus your energies more effectively. Remind yourself to slow down a little and conserve your strength. This is a time of regeneration and to gather information and resources.

Simple New Moon Charm

Simple New Moon Charm

One of the easiest charms to use for luck is a hag stone (stone with a hole in it). These are found on many beaches and river beds. Leave the stone out on the night of a Waxing Moon, then thread a piece of green ribbon or cord through the hole and wear it as a pendant or hang it from your handbag, your altar or in your car to bring you good luck.

The New Moon

The New Moon

We consider it to be the New Moon up to 3 1/2 days after the official New Moon. She rises around dawn, sets around sunset. Because she is between the Sun and the Earth nothing or very little is reflected and for a few days the Moon is lost in the brilliance of the Sun. When we cannot see any Moon in the sky, after the Waning Moon and before we see the first glimpse of the Crescent it is often referred to as the Dark Moon.

As the Sun and Moon are on the same side of the Earth, the pull on us is the strongest. Because the Sun, Moon and Earth are all in a straight line this creates a time when the high tide is higher and the low tide is lower than usual.

This is a wonderful time to make new beginnings of all types. It is especially good for getting rid of bad habits. Habitual ways of thinking that are harmful and negative can also be abandoned at this time. It is a good time to start something creative. New projects at work can also be launched.

The first day of the New Moon is really best devoted to the planning stages of ventures. It is good to feel just a little excited and filled with anticipation, although your energy may not be at its highest. A day or two into the cycle is the time to take the initiative, apply for that job, and start house hunting or any similar endeavours. It is also good for attracting positive energies, bringing about change, good luck and growth.

Let’s Talk Witch – The Waning Moon

Dragon Comments & GraphicsThe Waning Moon

The Waning Gibbous Moon or Disseminating Moon appears 3 ½ days to 7 days after the Full Moon. The Moon will rise during the evening and set sometime mid-morning. Again we see the bulge on one side of the Moon but it is now decreasing each day. Darkness is slowly moving in. Waning is underway.

The Waning Last Quarter Moon appears between 7 and 10 ½ days after the Full Moon. She rises near midnight and sets near noon. Because of the return to a right angle between the Sun and Moon the variation between tides is low again. There is once again a balance between light and dark, but the dark will soon overcome the light.

The Waning Crescent or Balsamic Moon occurs between 10 ½ days after the Full Moon up until the New Moon. The Moon rises in the dark hours of the morning and sets in the afternoon. Again we see the Moon as a beautiful crescent, but it is rapidly diminishing into darkness.

You do not have to be concerned so much about overdoing things now because the lunar rhythm will act as something of a brake. Now is a good time to throw away your rubbish, take old clothes to charity shops. Consider how well things are working out and analyse information. Follow your needs and reactions.

You may feel more like meditating and being alone. Clear spaces of all descriptions and make endings, let go of unwanted energies, release, banish and reverse. Some people favour scrying and meditation with the Dark Moon because it is a more inward time. The insights you glean now will have a deeper more insightful quality, whereas as Full Moon they may be more obviously creative.

To connect with the Waxing Moon energies and the energy of the Crone, place an amethyst in a bowl of water, light a purple candle and scry.

Use a hag stone (holey stone) or a piece of elder or yew wood. Hold this during meditation to connect with crone energies and the energy of the Waning Moon.

Make a crone hearth in your fireplace or on your mantelpiece. Decorate it with symbols that represent her to you, or you could just use a cauldron (or big casserole dish) and fill it with a large dark coloured candle and pebbles.

When The Full Moon Falls on Tuesday & The Perfect Corresponding Spell

in the branches of night ♰ im Geäst der NachtWhen The Full Moon Falls on Tuesday & The Perfect Corresponding Spell

For this Tuesday night Full Moon spell, we are working with fire magick and warrior energy. This spell incorporates one of the court cards from the tarot deck, the Knight of Swords. If you recall, the Knight of Swords can be summed up in two words: no fear!

The Knight of Swords is a card of movement, bravery and decisive action, which makes it ideal for this full moon spell.

The “No Fear” Spell

This spell is best worked outdoors.

Supplies are as follows:
1 red taper illuminator candle
1 black taper illuminator candle
2 coordinating black metal candle holders (use wrought iron, if possible)
A pin or nail to engrave Mars’s symbol on the candles
The Knight of Swords card from your tarot deck
A fireproof small metal cauldron
A sheet of paper, no larger than 6 inches square
Black ink pen
Rubbing alcohol
Wooden matches

An outdoor working area-make sure it is a flat, safe surface to set up all of the spell supplies on (you need to be outside for this one, otherwise you will set off the smoke alarms while you are burning the paper in the cauldron; dron; talk about blowing the magickal mood!)

You have to be careful with the fire. Anytime you have an open flame inside of a cauldron, fire pit, or fireplace and you add magick and intention, things tend to be unpredictable with the flames. Also, just a few drops of alcohol will help that paper burn. So don’t go overboard and singe yourself. Safety first! The spell fire is symbolic. A little fire held within a metal cauldron that is lit with intention does pack more power than you realize, so please be smart and safe and work this full moon spell with care.

Arrange the outdoor setup as follows. Engrave and then place the candles in their holders, and set them toward the back of your working area. Position the metal cauldron dron in the center. Leave a small area to place the Knight of Swords card in front of the cauldron, where it is easily visible. Set the rubbing alcohol, the matches, and paper and pen to the side and within reach.

To start, take up the paper and pen and write down what it is that you fear. Keep it short and to the point. Then, fold the paper in half and drop it into the cauldron. Sprinkle kle a bit of rubbing alcohol on the paper. Close up the bottle and set it off and away to the side. Now put your game face on. Call up whatever courage you can muster. Visualize those Spartan soldiers or the god Mars standing strong and right alongside of you. Come on, tap into that warrior energy. Growl. Get tough, and raise up some courageous energy. Hold your hands out and over the cauldron. Now repeat this verse with intention:

Mars energy is bolstered by the full moon light
I remove anxiety and stress on this night
Mighty warrior energy now defeats the shadows and fear
As I conjure bravery and courage to reside with me here!

Move your hands away from the cauldron. Step back from the work area and strike the match. Carefully drop it on top of the paper inside of the cauldron. If necessary, you can hold the match to the edge of the paper and encourage it to completely burn. If you need to use a couple of matches, that’s fine. Just drop the spent matches inside of the cauldron. Keep going until the paper is ash. Then close the spell with these lines:

Ashes to ashes and dust to moon dust
My courage soars and my magick is just
I work boldly with the days of witchery
This lunar spell is sealed; set the magick free!

You may snuff the black and red illuminator candles and take them inside with you. If you wish, use them again for other Tuesday spells or to repeat this spell if necessary. Allow the contents of the cauldron to cool completely, then take a little garden spade and bury the ashes in the garden. Pour water on top of the spot to make doubly sure nothing is smoldering. Tap your fist on the ground on top of it, and say:

So mote it be!

Magic to Honour the Moon – Make a Moon Altar

sing to the moonMagic to Honour the Moon – Make a Moon Altar

You could set up an altar to honour the phases of the Moon and the dark mysteries of the night. It doesn’t have to be large, just a small shelf or corner of a sideboard. Go with your instincts (as always!) on what items to put on your altar, but here are some suggestions to get you started:

Candles: Change the colour for each different phase of the Moon. (I would suggest white for waxing, red for full and black for waning to represent the three phases of the Triple Goddess.) Or you could use white or silver candles for the Moon and darker ones for the night such as deep red, forest green, purple or dark blue.

Herbs, crystals, shells, bowl of water: Use crystals that symbolise the Moon phases or the night. Night crystals might be apache tears, obsidian, angelite, celestite, smokey quartz, fluorite, quartz, jet, blue beryl, moonstone, selenite, pearl, opal, onyx, sodalite, dark agates, aquamarine and mother of pearl.

Making Your Own Moon Water

Lunar MothMaking Your Own Moon Water

Moon water is really simple to make and can be used for all sorts of spell work, rituals and anointing. It is useful to have in stock when you need to use the power of the Moon phase at a different time.

Using a dish, bowl or bottle, fill it with spring water and leave it outside (if it can be safely done) or on a windowsill so that it can soak up the power of the Full Moon. You can also do the same process on the New, Waxing, Waning or Dark Moon phases too. Once the water has absorbed the power of the Moon, you can keep it in an airtight bottle for future use.

You can also add a pinch of sea salt to the water to give it extra cleansing and purifying oomph.

The Full Moon

"The Moon"by japanfan12345 - 2The Full Moon

About 15 days after the after the New Moon, the Full Moon first appears. At this point the Moon is on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun, so she rises around sunset and sets around dawn.

The Sun shines fully on her face and tides are at their extremes again. Some may sense the pull of the Sun from one direction, and the Moon from the opposite, and their energy will feel a bit scattered.

Hold a party or an event, but be aware that the energy level is likely to be high and anything troublesome is likely to surface. Cook and stock up the freezer. Pay special attention to your creative ventures and your dreams.

This is a good time to try out forms of divinations such as scrying or tarot. Reflect about your goals, feelings and matters that have to do with relationship and family. It is also good for transformations, psychic abilities, strength, love, power and fertility.

The Full Moon is also an excellent time to cleanse, purify and charge your crystals. Lay them out so that the moonlight can hit them; if you can do so safely, leave them outside. If not, find a windowsill that catches the moonlight. Don’t just stop at crystals though, your magical tools will also benefit from soaking up the power of the moonlight.

As the Full Moon just passes, the time arrives to put the finishing touches on what you have been doing and to get ready for the quieter time to come. Enjoy beauty and art, listen to music.

If you have argued with someone but do not feel the issues are really vital, make up now. If you live near the sea the Full Moon is a wonderful time to visit the shoreline and (if safe and legal to do so) build a small fire. Collect small pieces of driftwood to build your fire and, as you lay each piece onto the fire, add a wish.

Once the fire is burning nicely, cast offerings into the flames as gifts to the Moon Goddess, such as herbs, flowers and leaves. Sit and watch as the fire burns. If you don’t live near the sea you could turn this into a visualisation for a Full Moon meditation.

Create Your Own Moon Spells

Create Your Own Moon Spells

Because of the very nature of Magic, each working should be highly individualized and personal. Even if following a traditional spell, it should be tailored to your specific needs to be most effective for you.
Understanding the basics of Spell Construction will enable you to formulate your own specific, effective spells for any purpose you desire. Preliminary planning is necessary.
The very first step is to decide precisely what your desired end result is to be.
Before you can start, you must decide where you are going. You must be very explicit. It is important, also, that you choose your time carefully. You should take into consideration all Astrological implications, energy currents and Moon phases.

The Moon is the astronomical body closest to us and, therefore, has a profound influence upon us, it is very important to choose a time when the Moon is in an astrological sign which is appropriate for your working.
For example: Aries/Action – Enthusiasm,

Taurus/ Renewal – Sensuality,

Gemini/Communication – Curiosity,

Cancer/ Emotion – Nurturing,

Leo/Vitality – Determined,

Virgo/Organizing – Studious,

Libra/Balance -Cooperation,

Scorpio/Sexual – Philosophical,

Capricorn/Authority – Ambitious,

Aquarius/Innovation – Social,

Pisces/Sensitivity – Idealistic.
Bear in mind that magickal workings for gain, increase or bringing things to you,
should be initiated when the Moon is Waxing (from Dark to Full); when the Moon is Waning (from Full to Dark), it is time for magical workings of decrease or sending away.
The highest energy occurs at the Full Moon and, therefore, this is the most powerful time for magical workings. The New Moon is the next most powerful time for Magic.

New Moon Psychic Bath

New Moon Psychic Bath

This relaxing bath will help bring out your natural psychic abilities, and connect with the energies of the moon. Try to perform this spell during the phase of the new moon if you can.

You will need the following items for this spell:

  • • 1 cup coarse sea salt
  • • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • • 1/4 cup vervain
  • • 1/4 cup jasmine flowers
  • • 7 drops cypress oil

In a bowl, mix together everything but the oil. Pour it into a tub full of hot bathwater, then add the drops of oil to the bath too. You can split the mixture in half for 2 baths if you want, just keep the oil separate.

Get in the tub, and just soak. Careful getting in though, the sea salt will be a bit rough under foot. Let your thoughts float and open up your mind to new ideas and experiences. Stay in the bath until the water gets cold.

New Moon Magic

New Moon Magic

When the Moon is new, the Luminaries — the Sun and Moon — are aligned in the same Zodiac sign. That makes it a charged time with concentrated energies of that sign. A New Moon is a symbolic point of attention, and a symbolic portal for new beginnings.

New Moons are a great time to set intentions for things you’d like to create, develop, cultivate, make manifest. There are many ways to initiate this communion with the Universe from lighting a candle to elaborate rituals.

What matters is that you’re committing yourself to your vision, and open to receiving guidance, healing, support from Spirit.

Why Follow the Moon?:

When you tune into the Moon’s phases, it’s reassuring to know that there are many chances during the year to tap into lunar energy. Like the tides, the Moon ebbs and flows, a rhythm that women understand intimately. New Moons are a blank page on which to speak your dreams out loud, and Full Moons are for taking action and celebrating the fruit of your efforts.

In the chaotic and temporal world, looking to something larger that is also part of yourself can fill you with awe and make you feel connected. For whatever path you’re on, opening to working with planetary energies links you to the power of the divine.

Preparing for the New Moon:

It’s a good idea to spend some time reflecting in the days leading up to the new Moon. Knowing exactly what you want to draw into your life is not always easy. Part of preparing for the new Moon is making sure you are clear about your intentions.

Sometimes it’s a quality you’d like to cultivate like forgiveness, courage — other times it’s a more specific request like a promotion at work or new place to live.

What is a new Moon Ritual?:

This depends on your personal tastes, the pace of your life and the time you have to devote to it. Some simply light a candle, while others gather objects and pictures for their altar. Lately, I’ve been writing my intentions on a 7-day candle and leaving it in a prominent (and safe) place. With a candle, you can return to it and relight it while meditating on your intentions.

Ritual helps focus your entire being on the quest at hand. In the days leading up to the new Moon, you might gather pictures and totems that symbolize your goal. Creating a New Moon collage gives you a visual reminder of your dreams.

What does it mean in each different sign?:

Every new Moon is different, and this gives you the chance to claim the energies of each different sign. Even if you don’t have planets in the sign for a given month, it falls somewhere in your birth chart. We each have elements of the entire Zodiac in our make-up, with some more emphasized than others. Find out where the new Moon falls in your chart for clues as to what to “call in” that month.

How is it different from the Full Moon:

The new Moon has a more inward feel, has a void or empty quality, and therefore can be frightening to those not comfortable with uncertainty. Can you learn to trust the dark? It’s the moment when the old passes away and the new is not yet here. That’s why it’s a powerful time for sending out your prayer, wishes, desires to the Universe.
