| One of the simplest of magical arts which comes under the heading of natural magic is candle burning. It is simple because it employs little ritual and few ceremonial artifacts. The theatrical props of candle magic can be purchased at any department store and its rituals can be practiced in any sitting room or bedroom.
Most of us have performed our first act of candle magic by the time we are two years old. Blowing out the tiny candles on our first birthday cake and making a wish is pure magic. This childhood custom is based on the three magical principals of concentration, will power and visualization. In simple terms, the child who wants his wish to come true has to concentrate (blow out the candles), visualize the end result (make a wish) and hope that it will come true( will power). The size and shape of the candles you use is unimportant, although highly decorative, extra large, or unusually shaped candles will not be suitable as these may create distractions when the magician wants to concentrate on the important work in hand. Most magicians prefer to use candles of standard or uniform size if possible. Those which are sold in different colors for domestic use are ideal. The candles you use for any type of magical use should be virgin, that is unused. Under no circumstances use a candle which has already adorned a dinner table or been used as a bedroom candle or night-light. There is a very good occult reason for not using anything but virgin materials in magic. Vibrations picked up by secondhand materials or equipment may disturb your workings and negate their effectiveness. Some magicians who are artistically inclined prefer to make their own candles for ritual and magical use. This is a very practical exercise because not only does it impregnate the candle with your own personal vibrations, but the mere act of making your own candle is magically potent. Specialist shops sell candle wax and molds together with wicks, perfumes, and other equipment. The hot wax is heated until liquid and then poured into the mold through which a suitably sized wick has already been threaded. The wax is then left to cool and once is this has occurred the mold is removed , leaving a perfectly formed candle. Special oil-soluble dyes and perfumes can be added to the wax before the cooling process is complete to provide suitable colors and scents for a particular magical ritual. Craft shops which sell candle-making supplies can also provide do-it-yourself books explaining the technicalities of the art to the beginner. Once you have purchased or made your ritual candle it has to be oiled or ‘dressed’ before burning. The purpose of dressing the candle is to establish a psychic link between it and the magician through a primal sensory experience. By physically touching the candle during the dressing procedure, you are charging it with our own personal vibrations and also concentrating the desire of your magical act into the wax. The candle is becoming an extension of the magician’s mental power and life energy. When you dress a candle for magical use, imagine that it is a psychic magnet with a North and a South pole. Rub the oil into the candle beginning at the top or North end and work downwards to the half-way point. Always brush in the same direction downwards. This process is then repeated by beginning at the bottom or south end and working up to the middle. To pass an exam, burn a yellow candle, to gain esoteric knowledge burn a blue candle or for material gain, burn a purple one. what is happening around you in other places. It normally involves mirrors,
crystals, water or fire. This magick spell is devised to assist in scrying, not
to be performed alone.
Arrange altar in the following manner:
Goddess Candle and God candle in respective places.
Incense in the Center
White candle directly south of incense.
To the left and south of the white candle place Orange candle. Underneath white
candle place petitioner candle. Directly right of petitioner candle place
orange candle. Directly south of the Petitioner candle place purple candle.
Light Goddess and God candles.
Light PETITIONER candle and say,
“Here burns my spirit and power, wise in the Occult and steadfast in purity.”
Light the WHITE candle and say,
“Here burns Purity, Truth, and Sincerity. They are with me throughout this rite
and beyond it.”
Light Orange candles and say,

1. Clarify
Write down your intention in one sentence, as if it’s already happened. For example, you might write “I am wealthy beyond my fondest dreams” or “I am vibrantly healthy in every way.”
2. Select a Scent or Scents
Look at a list of oils and choose a scent or scents to help manifest your intention. Write down you selection.
3. Select a Color
Here are some color ideas:
Black: banishing, releasing, dissolving
Deep Blue: intuition, psychic, abilities, success, harmony, peace
Green: health, healing, wealth, heart opening
Lavender: physical beauty, spirituality, harmony
Orange: harmony, warmth, harvest, fruition, sexuality
Red: passion, fame, strength, courage, success, vibrant health, victory, connection with the Earth.
Robin’s Egg Blue: communication, joy, lightness, self-expression
Violet/Purple: spirituality, inner beauty, magick
White: purity, protection, manifestation, healing
Yellow: energy, clarity, joy, courage, personal power
4. Obtain Your Candle
Choose or make a soy or other vegetable wax candle.
If you make it, color it and scent it with your chosen color and scent(s). If you purchase it, you can either find a candle with your chosen color and scent or just a candle with you chosen color. You can then anoint your candle with your chosen scents later.
As an alternative to getting a colored candle, you can get a white or off-white candle and place it in a colored glass jar or candleholder.
5. Prepare Your Candle
Carve the words of your intention into the candle with a pencil, mail or something else that works. You can use the entire sentence or you can just choose a word that summarizes your intention, such as “romance,” “wealth,” “release,” or “health.” If you’re going to anoint your candle with essential oil, put a few (or more, according to your preference) drops of your chosen oil(s)in a carrier oil such as sunflower or olive oil. Then lightly smooth this oil over the entire surface of the candle (except the bottom and the wick) with your fingers. Alternatively, use a paper towel to apply the oil if you’re not sure if the essential oils will irritate your skin.
6. Empower Your Candle
Use one of the following two ways (a) hold it in both hands and visualize and/or feel your intended outcome as if it has already manifested, then mentally direct the energy generated by this visualization into the candle, or (b) use the three secrets empowerment.
7. Light Your Candle
If you’re burning the candle to manifest something, burn it during the waxing moon. If you’re burning it to release or banish something, burn it during the waning moon. Once you extinguish it, you can just burn it casually whenever you’re home and feel like having some candlelight. Or, if you’d like to speed its magick, burn it whenever you’re home until it burns all the way down. Every time you light it, say a quick prayer or do a quick visualization of your intended outcome.

Annoint your candle with the oil that you have chosen. This is done by placing a little of the oil on your fingertips. Grasp the candle at its midpoint with your left index finger and thumb, and use your right index finger and thumb to stroke oil on the candle from the midpoint up to the top of the candle. Next, grasp the candle at its midpoint with your right index finger and thumb, and use your left index finger and thumb to stroke oil on the candle from the midpoint down to the bottom of the candle. Continue in this fashion until the entire candle has been annointed.

As with all supplies you want your candles to to be as free of psychic debris as possible. Submerge the candle in sea salt and the ask The Lord and lady to bless it. I could give you the phrasing but I think it is better when it comes from your own heart.

You may use anything that has a flat top.. I use an old trunk with a piece of plywood on it. Be creative.. As for a cover I use white because of it’s kind of a multipurpose color. Although some magic specifies a color then what ever color is specified should be used. Again, be creative… Keep in mind that candle magic is usually done in condensed areas so keep things as simplistic as you can, especially your candlesticks and censors.
Incense:
There are some who believe that incense is unimportant in candle magic. I cannot imagine performing candle magic without the incense. The type that you use may be specified in a specific spell, if that is the case by all means use that. Generally, I use three kings incense as well as vervain. Vervain gives the spell working a little umph. But then again nothing is set in stone.. Be creative.
Incense symbolizes Air… as the smoke rises our thoughts are carried up into the universe.
Preparing of the Practitioner:
Prior to your spell working prepare yourself a nice relaxing bath. Add a hand full of sea salt to get your charges set where they need to be. Light a few candles, turn off the light and relax. Clear your mind of the junk you have picked up through out the day. Visualize the water washing all the negativity away from you. It is very important that your mind be at ease and clear prior to any spell working.
Types of candles:
Any type of candle can be used for candle magic as long as it has been cleansed and consecrated prior to use. Although beeswax candles are higher in price than store bought candles, they are more powerful because they are produced from nature. As with any other tool, the candle made by the practitioner for a specific purpose captures the energy of the practitioner. Many experienced Witches will use only candles they have crafted themselves because of this.

Be very careful what you ask for, for it may well come true. The wording in any type of magic must not be taken lightly, be very careful, concise , and precise, make sure you have covered all possible bases.
Keep in mind that some candle magic has to be repeated over a period of days. Therefore, you will want to place them in an area that will not be disturbed. Do not choose a place where there is a tv, radio noise or disturbances of any kind. Keep in mind to not put candles near curtains and such, as you would not want to burn your house down. Candle magic should always be performed in a low traffic area. That is why a bedroom is really nice for such work.

Chose type and color of candle appropriate for ritual.
Cleanse the candle prior energies: you may use water, salt, pure soap, or baby oil
(all previously blessed and consecrated).
Bless and consecrate oil to be used, appropriate to ritual.
State and engrave (if you wish) what the candle is to represent.
Anoint the candle with oil and focus on desire (purpose of ritual).
For ritual of achievement: anoint oil from the top of the candle to the middle in a
downward motion, then from the bottom of the candle to the middle in an upward motion.
For ritual of banishment: anoint oil from the middle of the candle to the top in an
bottom of the candle in a downward motion.
Bless and consecrate the candle.
Meditate on desired outcome.
Some do not use matches to light candles, the sulfur is considered unclean. If you feel this,
use an incense starter or stick to light your candles.
To extinguish a candle, snuff it out or wave your hand over it hard enough to make a breeze to put it out.
Do not blow or pinch it out.
Blowing a candle out blows desires away, and pinching a flame pinches out desires.

–1 cup rose petals 1 cup violets 1 cup water 1 cup olive oil 1 tbsp clove oil
–2 teaspoons powdered cinnamon 1 tablespoon powdered myrrh 1/4 cup wild fennel seeds
Gather rose petals and violets at sunrise. Place them in a clean ceramic crock.
Cover with water (fresh rain water, preferably) and let crock sit in a sunny location for
three days until an oily film (the essential oil of the flowers) is seen floating on top of the water.
Remove oil from water by carefully absorbing it into a small cotton ball.
Squeeze out oil into a clean, long-necked glass bottle. Add olive and clove oils, and swirl
gently in a clockwise direction to slowly agitate oils. Next, add cinnamon, myrrh, and fennel seeds.
Seal bottle tightly and store it in a dark, cool place.
After four weeks, strain through cheesecloth and use to anoint candles.

paper or personal concerns under an overturned saucer and put the candle on top of the

If you have a special request for this person (such as that they find a lover, get a
good job, come home safely from a war, or whatever), just add it to the list.
Some people use a large pillar-type candle and keep it going for longer than seven days.
They may make a habit of burning such a candle every day — or once a week, on Sundays —
for as long as their friend or relative needs help, even doing so for months at a time.
If the candle is large and it is to be burned in this way, it should be re-dressed with
Blessing Oil or Holy Oil once a week: after the initial dressing, you can drop a tiny bit of
oil into the “well” or hole in such a large candle just before lighting it each time.
