November Energy Report 2015

November begins with a beautiful aspect, a conjunction in Virgo between Venus, Mars, and Jupiter. This is the third Venus/Mars conjunction this year and with Jupiter it packs a powerful punch. It’s also opposite Chiron, the wounded healer, so the wounds will be more obvious, but so will the healing they require, if we have the courage to apply it. One of November’s lessons will be to have the courage to move to the next level of transformation, to release the energetic bonds of our healing journey and replace them with the wings of freedom and wholeness. It’s a month for creative convergence, where all of the pieces come together so we can create our new life pathways. We don’t need to know where we are going, we just need to have the desire to start moving forward.

We’ve been on the healing path for so many lifetimes that being scattered, disconnected, and acting as the Martyred Healer has become our way of being. We are so familiar with the pain that it has become an accepted, expected, and anticipated life burden. As Lightworkers we dug the trenches for those we worked with, and then kept them company in their misery. As Light Beacons we light the way but first we have to be ready to put down our crosses, swords, and shields, so we can figure out how fun fits into our journey. When was the last time you had fun?

There is a lot of spiritual energy this month, but before you think this is the sweetness and light spirituality, guess again. This is more like ‘Joan of Arc’, fearlessly leading the troops to victory. The ‘Virgo virgin’ is the sign of mind over matter, of material alchemy using spiritual energy. We can now turn lead into gold. This is pure creative power that can manifest energy into form through the power of its intention.  Do you have intentions for your life? This is a good month to start setting them.

The Virgo focus intensifies on the 12th, when the moon’s node moves into Virgo. The nodes follow a 19 year cycle and they were in Virgo in January 1997, July 1978, and December 1959. Were those significant years for you?  They were for me and for the world too, Princess Diana was killed August 31, 1997, when we also had a powerful eclipse in Virgo. If you look at the planetary positions on that day and those that followed it, many are at the same degree but in different signs. Virgo is also the sign of pure truth, knowledge, awareness, transparency, and clarity. Be ready for secrets to be revealed, there are no more hiding places when the light of truth shines this brightly.

This is spiritual energy on steroids, as we also have Jupiter in Virgo, always the sign of a spiritual awakening, and Neptune in Pisces, its home sign, along with Chiron. They shine light on each other this month, a spiritual tug of war that raises the bar for all of us. How much spirituality and energy can we handle? Once we absorb all we can at the 3D level, we have to raise our vibes, frequency, and awareness to be able to handle more. We have expanded our 3D awareness as much as we can, and in November we can start exploring new dimensions to expand into.

Are you ready for multi-dimensional multi-tasking? This is not a time to abandon the physical world for the spiritual, or vice versa. We need to have our feet firmly grounded in all of our dimensional realities to be ready to hit the ground running in 2016 and we get to start practicing this month. Marathon runners train for months before they race, they don’t step up to the starting line and start running.  We can’t either and our training begins now.

If you’re tired of dealing with the repeats of last summer’s retrogrades, which are finally over now (except Pluto and Neptune), that also shifts in November.  All of the personal planets cover a lot of ground, expect lessons to move quickly, some may finish before you realize that an ending was happening. Mars and Venus stay fairly close, reminding us of the power we embrace when we remember our integrated duality — feminine and masculine, human and divine, material and spiritual. Polarity represents rejection; duality represents integration. Neptune goes direct after the 15th, removing the final veil of disillusion from our path. Wherever we have been ignoring the truth, it will be more than obvious.

The message for this month is that we need to be integrated to converge our power into a single point of expression. Aren’t we more powerful when we are laser focused, rather than being scattered in many different directions? This is not a time for resurrection or rising from the dead (we aren’t dead even though it has felt that way), this is ignition and liftoff, blasting off into new potentials, possibilities, and directions. We aren’t re-purposing our old ways or paths, we are creating something new now. The old has served its purpose, it is time to let bygones go on by.

One important note for this month, though, as much as you may be anxious and impatient for things to change, let yourself flow with the energy. It’s time to try out new things and see how they fit, to experiment with your intentions and practice your manifestation skills. We don’t have to rush and there is no need to try to hurry things along — divine timing is still in effect and we are the driver, not the passenger. Take some time to enjoy your journey, and to change your mind when your outcomes don’t meet your expectations. And remember to put yourself first. Meeting your needs makes you self-ish, not selfish. Read my article on How to be Self-Ish without being Selfish here.

November’s theme is convergence, where the many parts come together to become the whole, so we can feel what it means to be expanded and expansive, by being tightly integrated with our energy and not scattered. It’s a new way of being for us, that can happen without trauma or drama now. We have worked hard for a long time, and now we can let the closure and completion happen as we enjoy the last few weeks of this year’s journey and get ready to move into the next.

Monthly Astro-Forecasts November 2015

Monthly Astro-Forecasts November 2015

Message for November 2015

November looks set to be a month of magic and sparkle as we reach the culmination of a profound and intense inner journey (well, the culmination of this particular part of the journey to be more precise). Although we may spend the month feeling as though we are trying to navigate our way through a box of dynamite whilst carrying a lit match, there is also a growing sense of excitement rising up from deep within as we feel alive with possibility.

In many ways it is hard to articulate the true essence of this shift and change as it goes beyond vocabulary and understanding; we can feel, hear and taste the change but we can’t, as yet, touch it or see it. As a result, there is an air of cautious expectation as we can sense a new path ahead but we have no idea what’s around the corner. Intuitively we can feel the eagerness within our hearts and soul to stride forth renewed and invigorated but, at the same time, we are more than aware of the need to walk very carefully through that dynamite as every step, shake of the hand or cough matters! Of course, this is a spiritual or energetic journey rather than a physical (or literal) walk through dynamite, but, in a way, it feels even more profound as so much is at stake.

Dynamite breaks down seemingly immovable objects, and whilst dropping that lit match isn’t advisable, there is a sense that we are ready now to clear the way of debris: of outdated beliefs, of false hopes and of linear thinking. Clearing the way doesn’t have to be explosive and yet, there is an undeniable sense of satisfaction that comes from lightening the load and breathing freely once again. Many of us have spent years, decades and longer trying to reach a point of awakening or breakthrough; that point where we step from a place of fear to one of strength, but it’s an intense and challenging dark night of the soul to experience. It takes courage, faith and a willingness to let go in order to clear the way, but it is ‘letting go’ that so often thwarts so many as it involves truly letting go and going into a spiritual free fall. Intuitively we know this is the only way but logically who wants to let go and spiral into the unknown? The dynamite and lit match are representatives of the fear so many of us carry in connection to letting go, we hold back as it seems logical not to let the dynamite and match get too close and yet, we’ve created both and we’ve created the scenario so why can’t we uncreate it?

We want to breakthrough but our fear holds us back, preventing us from letting go as it feels too big to comprehend. However, resisting it doesn’t stop it happening so isn’t it better to take a breath and go willingly rather than be pushed kicking and screaming? Of course, at the end of the day, no one can answer this question other than ourselves. There is no right or wrong, there just is. The magic and sparkle can be amazing, breathtaking and awe-inspiring if we allow it to be or it can be another arduous and challenging chapter to endure. Our perception matters as it flavours the moment; it doesn’t change it, but it does alter our experience of it.

So, November looks like a month of intensity but it’s also a month for new beginnings as we shed the old and open up our hearts and souls to the unknowableness of the moment…

With love,

Sarah-Jane

Aries

♈

November looks set to be a month for grabbing hold of the moment and making some important decisions about what’s truly valuable in your life. You have a strong sense of self as well as a strong sense of direction in life, but there is a hint of discontentment deep within you as you can often feel tied between duty, responsibility, freedom and adventure. It’s as though your heart longs to dance free, but your head feels obligated to keep on keeping on, never letting anyone down in the process. There have been times in your life where you have felt torn between being the best ‘you’ you can be and being the ‘you’ you feel you ought to be. In some ways, it may seem strange that you have such an inner struggle, after all, you are one of life’s vibrant, passionate and determined individuals, yet it is exactly these qualities that can, at times, undermine you as you often try a little too hard to keep everybody happy.

In your attempt to take care of the needs of others, there is a risk that you downgrade your own needs and this is the root of your inner struggle, as intuitively you sense an imbalance, but you are too stubborn to do anything about it. Stubbornness can be a very useful quality at times, as it can see you accomplishing a great deal, but it can also prevent you from seeing the bigger picture of your life. You have now reached a threshold which looks set to present you with an opportunity to shift the balance of your life in order to channel some of your passion and determination towards living the best life possible and being the ‘you’ you were born to be…

Taurus

♉

As you continue to find new ways to ride the ebb and flow of the currents of change in life, there is a growing sense that you are beginning to master the art of surfing. It’s as though, when faced with the unpredictability of the waves of life, instead of feeling frustrated at the prospect of constant change, you have decided to accept it, adapt and find a new way of thriving. Your resourcefulness and open-mindedness has allowed you to accept the inevitability of change without becoming disempowered or disenchanted as a result. Yet, change doesn’t always feel gentle and rosy like an ebb and flow, sometimes it feels stormy and wild, and this can be unnerving as you can struggle to find any semblance of solid ground on which to rest and take a breath. As you know, change is always in the air and you have faced your fair share of it over recent months, but there is a sense of strength and resilience rising up from within you as you choose to step more consciously into the current moment, letting go of the inevitable worries and concerns as to what may, or may not, lie ahead.

Embracing the moment takes a great deal of courage as it shows your willingness to let go of the need to try to control, resist or change. This doesn’t mean you’ve given up, rather you have chosen to live more consciously and intuitively in order to make the most of each and every moment. You have found the wisdom of being here now rather than spending your time worrying about what may or may not happen tomorrow. Trust your wisdom, let it guide you and as you continue to surf, don’t forget to enjoy the ride…

Gemini

♊

‘Let your truth find its own way’. These were the parting words at the end of last month’s reading, and they look set to continue to spark inner reflection and debate as you contemplate the concept of truth and what it really means to you. For a long time now you have felt yourself opening up to the concept of living more wholeheartedly and more in connection to your true self. Such a shift has caused ripples of excitement within you as you have felt ready for ‘something new’ for quite some time. Although you still have no clear or concise idea as to what this ‘something new’ actually is, you intuitively know it’s exactly as it needs to be. You have let go of a great deal over recent months and years, and, as a result, you feel so much lighter within. However, there is still a sense of inner shift going on as you continue to peel back layer upon layer and allow your true self to emerge without expectation or judgement.

Of course, your mind is keen to make sense of these shifts but you know you need to allow the process to happen in its own time and in its own way. The concept of truth is perhaps your biggest obstacle though as it’s hard for you to not want to understand, rationalise and process it. So, you find yourself torn between ‘going with the flow’ and wanting to understand the true essence of what exactly makes the flow, flow. It seems important for you to stop trying so hard to be the ‘finished product’ as it doesn’t exist, instead be you and love yourself for it…

Cancer

♋

November looks set to be a month for reconnecting to the stillness that resides at the heart of your being, although in your everyday life you may feel anything other than still, right at the core of you lies a pool of tranquillity. You may feel that this description is a little ‘ fluffy bunny’ and you are rather more grounded and practical than this, however, despite wearing sensible shoes, there is a side of you that’s deeply creative and intuitive, and it is this side where the pool of stillness resides. For most of the time, this stillness just lives quietly in the corner of your soul, unacknowledged and unnoticed. It’s not that you deliberately turn your back on this valuable resource, it’s just that life has far too many distractions and you simply don’t have the time. Yet, despite your busy life, there are also times when you long to reconnect to the stillness as you know this is the true path to yourself.

Such a longing possibly suggests a deeper reason for you being so distracted, such as an avoidance of the stillness as you are unsure exactly what lies at its heart. Perhaps, the stillness will remind you of your true essence and show you that a path of busyness and distraction is not always the path to fulfilment. Of course, there will always be things to do, people to see and places to go, but isn’t life more than this? Although you are not one to wallow in philosophical ponderings and wonderings, you cannot continually deny your intuitive self the room to flow freely. You have reached a threshold in your life, and you seem ready now to dive into the stillness and discover the joys it contains…

Leo

♌

Over the last few months, there has been a strong focus on unravelling and unpicking the knots and tangles within. There have been times when the focus has been so intense, you have felt as though layer upon layer has been peeled back and exposed. Although you intuitively know and understand the need for this process, you would be forgiven for having moments when it all feels like too much. On one hand you are trying to accept yourself exactly as you are: quirks, nuances and complexities included. Yet on the other hand you are trying to undo the tangles within in order to feel freer, clearer and more ‘complete’. It’s therefore easy to see what lies at the heart of the confusion, as undoing the tangles is not about striving for perfection, it’s simply about living well exactly as you are. The tangles aren’t imperfections to ‘fix’, they are the more complex aspects of you that need love, affection and compassion.

Of course, it’s an easy conclusion to make that untangling the knots must lead to a stronger sense of feeling complete as it lightens the load of your life, but things are rarely as clear cut as this; the state of ‘completeness’ never lasts as the wheels of life constantly turn and shift. Nothing stays frozen in time, so instead of striving for a horizon that never comes, why not stop trying so hard to get ‘there’ and focus your energies on making the most of ‘here’? This doesn’t mean giving up on dreams or goals, but it means consciously stepping into each and every moment, and choosing to evolve and flourish as you stop being so hard on yourself for trying to be ‘there’ when all you truly need is to be fully and wholeheartedly ‘here’…

Virgo

♍

As you continue to take stock of your meanderings in life, there is a sense you are beginning to realise that your journey away from mapped and pre-defined pathways has allowed you to discover more about yourself than you ever imagined possible. Although you have deviated from your ‘grand plan’ of life, you cannot help but feel ever so slightly relieved because you now find yourself in new territory and this feels exciting, liberating and expansive. A pressure has been lifted off your shoulders as you don’t have to be ‘the perfect one’ anymore. You keep this perfection well hidden as you fear it somehow makes you boring or less exciting, but it pushes you into corners as you don’t like to make it known that you’ve made a mistake, had a change of heart or done something completely different. Keeping up appearances has a cost!

Trying to get life ‘right’ has left you fighting hard to stay en route as you left yourself little room for deviation or meandering, now you are seemingly inadvertently ‘off map’ you have realised just how contained and restrained you have become trying to push on and on. You’ve fought the unknown even though you never truly contemplated what this meant and even though you know that if you find yourself ‘off road’, you have the means to simply build another one. It’s certainly complicated being you! You’ve tied yourself up in knots trying to not be you even though you know just how talented and amazing you really are. The time has come to stop trying to work out why you are the way you are and instead to just be the way you are. So, draw your own map, carve out new roads and love every minute of it…

Libra

♎

November looks set to be a month for taking a deep breath, filling your lungs with air, stretching out your arms and reaching towards something new. There is a sense that you have been going through a powerful period of shift over recent weeks and months, and although you are still unable to articulate the essence of the shift, your awareness has expanded enabling you to see both yourself and your life from a different perspective. You have changed even though you can’t specify exactly how; it’s a feeling, an inkling or stirring within you, and it feels enriching, empowering and inspiring. To some, this could feel slightly bewildering, but you intuitively know everything is exactly as it should be. Although your inquisitive mind would normally insist on understanding every detail, unusually it’s rather quiet, allowing this process of shift to unfold in its own time and in its own way.

Of course, your mind isn’t completely still but its quiet enough to allow you to connect more wholeheartedly to the feelings and essence of the change you’re undertaking. Being fully conscious and aware at this pivotal time will allow you to gain a deeper understanding of yourself; this may sound slightly ironical, after all, your mind is quietening down but it is the act of stilling the mind that will enable you to stop chasing understanding and instead allow it to come to you. There is a sense that you are becoming less of an over-thinker but more of a wisdom-being now as you are no longer trying to work everything out in an attempt to make sense of life. Being a wisdom-being inspires you to ride the waves of life more consciously and with a deeper and truer sense of connection…

Scorpio

♏

November looks set to bring you some powerful revelations as you continue to connect to your profound and incredible sense of intuition. Although you have always been intuitive, this gift has often been pushed away when life got busy, difficult, stressful or challenging. In fact, there have always been things to do, people to see, places to go and stuff to think about, as all of these have been carefully strategised distraction techniques designed to keep you away from accessing that well of intuition, creativity and free-spiritedness deep within your being. Yet, why? Why would you want to distract yourself from such an amazing facet of your being? Why would you rather avoid this and instead spend your time keeping on keeping on the business of life? Well, it seems that intuitively you know just how deep and powerful that inner well actually is, and, as a result, it feels easier to deny it as you simply don’t know how to handle or manage it in your everyday life. However, how do you really know it’s unmanageable, tumultuous and wild? Perhaps this is simply your perception, and ignoring the core of your being makes for a quieter and simpler life as it means you don’t need to listen to your inner creative being crying out for expression? But does it make for a happier life?

Perhaps the time has now come for you to throw the doors within open in order to face your true essence and to realise it is your friend not your foe. Whilst this is a decision only you can make, you seem ready now to let go of distractions and simplify your life in order to live in a more enriching and inspiring way…

Sagittarius

♐

November looks set to be something of an explosive spectacular as you begin to breakthrough layer upon layer of ‘stuff’ and clutter in your life. Whilst explosions of any kind may not sound overly chipper, intuitively you feel rather excited at the prospect as you have been longing for some fireworks in your life for quite some time. Reassuringly this explosive spectacular is unlikely to create any major problems as the focus is not on the world around you but on the world that resides within you: your creativity, your emotions and your spirituality. Of course, life never carries any guarantees, but the explosions look set to be inner revelations which will create ripples of change in all areas of your life. In many ways, you have felt stuck in a rut for a long time, you have sought out escape routes and you have contemplated and explored different possibilities to create change, but you have felt immersed in an inertia which has kept you in the same place.

Therefore, the prospect of an explosive spectacular feels quite apt as you have been thinking about the need to set off some kind of energetic explosion in your life in order to break free. It hasn’t helped that you haven’t been exactly sure what you are breaking free from as the inertia has sapped your spirit and choked your creative spark. However, you seem more than ready to create the change you need in your life and you know that much more than a gentle nudge is required! Whilst this isn’t an invitation to blast craters into your life destroying everything in your wake, this is an opportunity to break free from the beliefs, routines and obstacles that have been holding you back. In short, this is your time to twinkle, shimmer and sparkle…

Capricorn

♑

Life is frequently a bewildering mixture of experiences: some good, some amazing, some not so good and some which are beyond words. There are also those experiences which include all of the above within the blink of an eye. And there are times when you would be forgiven for not knowing whether you are coming, going or stuck somewhere in between. However, there are plenty of other times where you feel slightly nonplussed and disengaged due to the pedestrian and rather ordinary nature of the daily grind of life. Despite feeling slightly downhearted with the lack of ‘va va voom’ and adventure, there is a sense that you also find this slightly reassuring, as there’s a degree of comfort in the ordinary as you feel you know where you stand with this.

Adventure, whilst alluring, is unpredictable and full of surprises. However, when you step beyond logic and realism, you cannot help but sense an inner imbalance as, despite appearances, the lack of adventure is leaving you feeling slightly out of kilter. Perhaps the saying: ‘all work and no play’ is one to take note of in November as it seems so important that you establish a good work/life balance, ensuring plenty of time for adventure, relaxation and laughter. Taking life so seriously all the time isn’t good for your stress levels nor is it good for your creativity or feisty spirit. You thrive on challenge and you flourish in unknown territory, so staying in the comfort of the daily grind will only wear you down as it keeps you away from your true essence. Of course, there are duties and responsibilities to take into account, but don’t hide behind these as reasons ‘not to’. Use your flair, wisdom and talent to thrive instead…

Aquarius

♒

November looks set to be a month for some genuine and wholehearted self-compassion as although you are a compassionate soul, you so often forget to be compassionate with yourself. Life isn’t always a bed of roses, and there are times when you feel beleaguered and bewildered, there are also times when you feel tired and weary. Sometimes rather than trying to push on and through, taking a pause and showing yourself some compassion is actually far more effective as it re-shapes and re-defines your perspective enabling you to see your life and your path in a different way. Compassion may not fix things, but it allows you to bring a deeper sense of balance into your life which helps you to ride the ebb and flow more consciously. You are a vibrant and creative soul, and yet you often hold this back as you try to strive on, pushing yourself hard to get things done.

Determination is a gift, but not when it overwhelms and exhausts you. Pushing yourself beyond your boundaries takes courage and self-belief but sometimes it’s important to pause for a while to take stock of the path you’ve walked and the path ahead of you, however, it’s even more important to take stock of where you are now. Although you are a wise and intuitive soul, you have a tendency to focus so hard on where you want to be or feel you need to be that you forget to notice where you are. Life is a journey, but the destination is continually changing, so why not savour the view and make the most of each and every moment? By embracing self-compassion, you will naturally re-align and begin to fully appreciate all that you are…

Pisces

♓

As you continue to wrestle with the storm raging at the core of your soul, there is a sense of some relief on the horizon as the winds ease and the rain turns to drizzle. The storm has whipped up a great deal of inner thought and reflection as it has made you look deeply within in order to acknowledge your true needs and wants. You are great at being the one everyone else relies on, or turns to, but the cost of this has been a neglect of your own needs as a result. However, it’s not that you’re being taken advantage of as you give your energy away so freely; there is a sense that you like to be entrenched in helping others as it takes you away from those stormy depths within as facing your truth has been something you’ve been keen to avoid. Yet, why? Why do you fear your true essence? The storm within you is full of energy, passion, creativity and wisdom, and it is a powerful force for change. Intuitively you know this but fear your full power as you’ve never allowed yourself to become fully immersed in it.

Being you isn’t something to fear but, over the years, you’ve denied it and you now fear your power will rampage uncontrollably if you let it out. Yet, it is a part of you, so by denying it is denying yourself the opportunity to be your formidable and phenomenal self. Remember, this is a part of you, so by embracing it, you can learn how to channel it in your life. However, keeping it squashed up inside leads to a deep sense of inner discontent as you feel so disconnected from your true essence. You are a powerful soul: own it, use it and love it…

The Witches Magick for the 3rd Day of the Snow Moon – Goddess Healing Spell

FANTASY DRAGON

Goddess Healing Spell

Your intention when doing this spell is to direct as much healing energy as you can toward a particular area on the body. You can do this healing on either yourself or someone else.

You will need a white candle, a green gel pen, a sheet of red construction paper, and sandalwood incense.

Draw a magic circle and call in the elements. Light the white candle and dedicate it to your favorite healing Goddess:

Great Goddess let your light shine

So that health may reign divine.

Take the green gel pen and draw the outline of a person on the construction paper. Now mark the area that needs healing with an “X.” Light the sandalwood incense, and also dedicate it to the Goddess of healing. Pass the piece of construction paper with the picture through the incense smoke. Place the picture on your altar, and pick up your magic wand. Direct it at the spot where you want the healing energy to go, and say:

By the power of the Goddess, where I

point my wand

All illness and disease be gone

So be it! Blessed be!

Let the candle burn down safely. Thank the healing Goddess, bid farewell to the elements and pull up the circle.

WOTC Extra(b) – Your Self List

Dragons:magic forest

Your Self List

Make a list of your ideas about yourself. Consider your physical qualities, mental abilities, talents, job, relationships, lifestyle, and so on. What are your strengths and weaknesses? What things do you feel comfortable with, and which would you like to change?

Look at all areas of yourself. Make “plus” and “minus” categories if you like. Are you good at managing time? Do you have pretty eyes? Are you a skilled cook? Are you compassionate, a good listener, a loyal friend? Are you overweight? Are you always late for appointments? Do you buy things you don’t need to make yourself feel better? Are you impatient, judgmental, or lazy? It can help to also examine where the negative ideas you hold about yourself originated.

WOTC Extra(a) – Your Self-Image As A Witch

dragons:my red angel

Your Self-Image As A Witch

Ironically, your self-image probably isn’t something you created yourself. It’s a patchwork affair made up of bits and pieces you’ve collected from lots of other people: family members, teachers, religious leaders, friends, your culture, and the media. Like donning clothing that’s in style, rather than in your style, the self-image you wear might be uncomfortable or inappropriate. Maybe you even fashioned your self-image without questioning whether or not the “garment” was right for you.

Tailoring your self-image according to someone else’s ideas usually results in unhappiness or frustration. If you see yourself in this picture, perhaps it’s time to take a closer look at the person you think you are, the person you’d like to be, and where the ideas you hold about yourself originated.

From what you know about magick, your thoughts about yourself and what you deserve will produce conditions that fit with your ideas. Your life is your mirror. What you see is a reflection of what you believe about yourself. If you aren’t happy with your situation, you can change it by changing your perceptions of yourself.

Remember, nobody else gets to decide whether you’re worthy. Only you do. Nor can anyone else limit your personal power without your consent — and that’s pretty sweet.

Let’s Talk Witch – Personal Power

DRAGONS BOOK OF DREAMS

Personal Power

Personal power has a lot to do with having “presence.” We all know people who just seem to shine, and everyone looks at them when they enter a room. Movie stars, powerful politicians, and celebrities have it. However, you don’t need to be someone in the public eye to possess presence. In fact, your job or social position rarely has anything to do with it. Presence comes from within — from being present in the moment and in harmony with yourself. Some little kids have it. Some elderly people have it. You’ll meet people from all walks of life who don’t even realize they have it. In some instances, a person may be born with presence, but usually it’s something you cultivate and nurture over time, with the development of self-knowledge.

Remember the old adage, know thyself? To know yourself and to use what you learn requires an act of will. As you know already, your will is the crux of every visualization, manifestation, and spell you cast. You don’t simply say the words or use the right herbs. You don’t just go through the motions. You plunge into yourself, you delve deep to discover your true motives, needs, and desires. You bring that self-knowledge into your daily awareness. Then you commit to your path and trust the process.

Tuesday is a Mars day, and just like the god of war, this is the time to tap into magicks to call for strength and courage. This day of the week is for rebels and warriors. If you are facing a challenge of any kind, need a boost to your courage, or want to enhance your passions, Tuesday is the day of the week for you. Some suggestions for Tuesday enchantments would include:

*Wearing the fiery colors associated with this day: scarlet, red, black, and orange. Don some of the more daring and bewitching colors of your wardrobe on Tuesdays and turn a few heads

*Carrying a bloodstone in your pocket or wearing garnet-studded jewelry to reinforce your convictions

*Working with protective and fire-associated plants such as the snapdragon, thistle, and holly to boost your shields and bravery

*Burning spicy-scented energy-enhancing candles to add a little magical aromatherapy to your home

*Cooking up a hearty meal featuring carrots, peppers, and garlic (all Mars foods and spices) to empower yourself for victory and success

Fire Power

This is a day on which we commemorate those who been persecuted, even murdered, for their unorthodox beliefs and especially those accused of witchcraft and tortured for their “crimes.” The first recorded execution of a witch in Ireland took place on this day in 1324, when Petronellla de Meath, the servants of (and perhaps a scapegoat for) alleged murderess Lady Alice Kytelet, was burned to death. Outsiders and unorthodox characters, especially women, were often demonized in olden times.

Barley Broth

This nourishing grain was sacred to Demeter, the Greek goddess of fertility and the harvest, and is a stape grain at harvest time in many countries. Feed your lover a hearty soup made with this ancient aphrodisiac to boost his or her vitamin E level and to kindle the flames of your romance.

Tuesday’s Witchery

Tuesday is the day to work any magick that falls in the category of increasing strength, courage, bravery, and passion. All of these intense emotions are linked to this day’s energies, and spells designed around these themes will have extra punch when performed on this magickal day.

So, let’s add a little passion and conviction into your life! Break out the daring red pieces of your wardrobe, and put a little pizzazz into your day. Work with Lilith, and see what she has to teach you about personal power and sexuality. Meditate onTiw/Tyr and Mars, and see what those ancient warrior gods will show you about new tactics, strategies, and claiming personal victories in your life. Practice conjuring up that astral weapon from the meditation and use it wisely for protection and for courage.

Create a philter for courage and protection or handcraft your own Witch’s jar to remove negativity from your home. See what other Witch crafts you can conjure up with Tuesday’s magick. Create some kitchen magick on this Tuesday by whipping up a spicy stew-add in a few Mars-associated ingredients such as carrots, peppers, and garlic. Empower the stew for success, and then treat yourself and your family to a good, hearty meal. Try working with a little aromatherapy and burn some spicy or coffee-scented candles to increase your energy level.

Check the sky at night, and see if you can find the reddish planet Mars up in the heavens. Not sure where to look? Check an astronomy magazine or search the Web for more information. Become a magickal warrior and move forward in your life with strength, courage, and compassion. Embrace the side of yourself that loves a good challenge and that is passionate and daring! Banish fear, and face your future with strength and conviction. Believe in yourself and in your dreams, work hard, and you will win every time.

Tuesday

A god, goddess, or planet governs each day of the week. It is usually easy to spot the ruler of the day by its name. The word Tuesday, however, is not so easy, but if we look at the word in Spanish, Martes, we clearly see its connections to Mars.

Because Tuesday revolves around the energy of Mars, Tuesdays are good for business, mechanical things, buying and selling animals, hunting, beginning studies, gardening, sexual activities, and confrontation. This is a day for sex magick, energy, stamina, and health. As in the old saying, Tuesdays child is full of grace, is also good for success magick and defense against enemies.

Angels of Tuesday are Camael, Samael, Satael, Amabiel, Friagne, and Hyniel. When invoked, Camael takes the form of a leopard. In Druid mythology he is a god of war, which is why we see him associated with Mars. Camael is said to be a member of the “Magnificent Seven” in some circles. Camael is another “terminator” angel.

Samael walks both worlds as a magician and sorcerer. some see him as the angel of death, others as “the bright and poisonous one.” Many consider him more of a demon, and accuse him of being Satan. However, there is reference to the satans (plural) as enforcers of the law, a sort of angelic police, if you will. Supposedly, when Samael is around, dogs howl in the night. On one hand, he is the ruler of the fifth heaven and in charge of two million angels; on the other, he is the one who changed into a serpent and convinced Eve to partake of the forbidden fruit of knowledge.

Satael is an angel of air invoked in magic rites and is the presiding spirit of the planet Mars. Amabiel is another spirit of the planet Mars; however he spends his energy on issues of human sexuality. Friagne, also an angel of this day, is invoked from the east. He is a member of the fifth heaven. Hyniel also belongs to this day and is subject to the east wind.

On Tuesdays the hour of sunrise and every eight hours after that are also ruled by Mars, and that makes these times of the day doubly blessed. These four hours are the strongest ones to do ritual in. Check your local newspaper, astrological calendar, or almanac to determine your local sunrise.

Merry Meet & Good Tuesday Morning To All Our Precious Family & Friends!

Wiccan Woman and Dragons (GP)
It became light

A flash so bright

It would take ones sight

Until there was night

Which to some brought fright

It was only night

Soon the light would replace the night

No need for such fright

Within sight

It became light

Bringing such delight

Taking it to new heights

Caught up mid flight

A flash so bright

It became light

So bright

It would take ones sight

As the light takes root

Try not to refute

Stand tall

Take salute

In hot pursuit

Only to be consumed

No need to be confused

The light comes so smooth

The light

Oh how it soothes

So bright

You can’t see how the light moves

Just how it removes the night

In all directions

It surrounds

Don’t become confounded

The light is boundless

Leaving us groundless

Don’t let yourself go blind

Hold on to your mind

Now recline

The light is divine

How sublime

With time

You’ll find

When everything aligns

By design

Don’t incline

That I will turn a blind eye

The light illuminates

Makes everything known

No longer to remain hidden

Nothing can hide from the sight of light

Which removes all night

Samhain Comments & Graphics

This is the night when the gateway between

our world and the spirit world is thinnest.

Tonight is a night to call out those who came before.

Tonight I honor my ancestors.

Spirits of my fathers and mothers, I call to you,

and welcome you to join me for this night.

You watch over me always,

protecting and guiding me,

and tonight I thank you.

Your blood runs in my veins,

your spirit is in my heart,

your memories are in my soul.

With the gift of remembrance.

I remember all of you.

You are dead but never forgotten,

and you live on within me,

and within those who are yet to come.

Samhain Activities

  • Bob for Apples

Drink apple cider warmed and spiced with cinnamon to honor the dead. Bury an apple or pomegranate in the garden as food for spirits passing by on their way to be reborn.

  • Carve a Jack-o-Lantern.

Pick a spirit candle. This is a white candle anointed with patchouli oil. Say: “With this candle and by its light, I welcome you spirits this Samhain night.” Place it inside the jack-o’-lantern.

  • Set out a Dumb Supper.
  • Have a New Years party to celebrate the turning of the wheel!
  • Make a mask of your shadow self.
  • Make a besom, or witches broom.
  • Make a witches cord as an expression of what you hope to manifest in the year ahead.

Let this be the traditional time that you make candles for the coming year, infusing them with color, power, herbs, and scent depending on its purpose.
Enjoy the trick or treating of the season. Wear costumes that reflect what we hope or wish for in the upcoming year.
Make resolutions, write them on a small piece of parchment, and burn in a candle flame, preferably a black votive candle within a cauldron on the altar. This is like New Year’s resolutions; as for many Samhain is the New Year.
Divination – Samhain is the beginning of the pagan year; divinations were done to see the future of the coming year. It is said that this is the time of the Crone and it is incumbent upon us to see whatever wisdom she is willing to part with on our behalf. Many types of divination are practiced for Samhain. Dark Mirrors – Fire or Water Scrying – Tarot cards – and of course the Crystal Ball.

Make masks and costumes representing the different aspects of the Goddess and God, and wear them to your rituals, or use them to decorate your altar area.

Toll “Lost in the Dark” bells.

  • Hold a private ritual and focus on the traditional themes for Samhain, such as Life, Death and Rebirth.

  • Try learning a new form of divination to practice and then try to see what the coming year has in store for you.

  • Clip articles from the newspaper that have things to do with paganism and put them in a scrapbook.

  • Eat some candy!! (My personal favorite, lol!)

The Dumb Supper

The Dumb Supper

Samhain is a celebration of death, and as such it is marked by several traditions. One of these is the Feast of the Dead, sometimes called the Dumb Supper. This has many variations — from a complete meal shared by the living, with places set at the table for the dead, to the simple leaving of cakes and wine, or any similar combination, by the fireside on Samhain Night. And this is the most traditional time for communication with the dead. For this reason, after welcoming them into your Samhain Circle through the Western Gate, the direction of death, you can allow the spirits of the deceased to communicate with you if they so desire. One method is the wineglass.

Similar to a ouija board but without the undeserved sinister reputation, the wineglass is just that, an inverted wineglass (the champagne type is better than the wine type, as t is less likely to tip). The glass is surrounded by a circle of letters. An alphabet in Gothic style drawn on squares of white paper helps to create an appropriate atmosphere.

It must be mentioned here that many occultists turn up their noses at such devices as the ouija board, the pendulum board, and, no doubt, the wineglass, preferring instead personal mediumship, or channeling, as it is currently being called. But we believe that entities willing to take control of the body or voice of another individual cannot be of the highest calibre. Nor is every scene that passes before the inner eye psychic or spiritual, or the motivations that created them always spiritually pure. This is not to say that we do not believe in either channeled information or that which is received psychically. We most certainly do, but we have seen many instances of self-delusion, which is one of the greatest barriers to true spiritual development.

The wineglass, on the other hand, has several built-in safety devices. It cannot be easily operated alone, so spiritual possession is less likely, and since two or more people are operating it, self-delusion is not so easy. It is interesting to note, too, that the wineglass brings with it some intrinsic symbolism. It is a vessel or container for wine, itself a symbol for spiritual awareness, so the wineglass is a container for spiritual knowledge.

The wineglass can be used within the Samhain Circle. The four quarters of the Circle may be marked with candles in jack-o’-lanterns, and an extra candle, an indigo blue one (the colour symbolizing the higher spiritual planes), should also be lit. This candle might be anointed with oil and marked with a rune such as û` that describes the travel between the planes. After a moment of meditation each person present places a fingertip on the upturned base of the wineglass and the traditional “Is anyone here that wishes to give us a message?” is asked. Then as the glass slides from one letter to the next, rapidly spelling out messages, read the words. You may find it easier to use a tape recorder because it can get confusing. At this, the most solemn of Pagan festivals, the messages are often personal and profound. from:

ALL HALLOW’S EVE

Halloween Tree. ‘You don’t REALLY know!’

–Ray Bradbury from ‘The Halloween Tree’

Samhain. All Hallows. All Hallow’s Eve. Hallow E’en. Halloween. The most magical night of the year. Exactly opposite Beltane on the wheel of the year, Halloween is Beltane’s dark twin. A night of glowing jack-o–lanterns, bobbing for apples, tricks or treats, and dressing in costume. A night of ghost stories and seances, tarot card readings and scrying with mirrors. A night of power, when the veil that separates our world from the Otherworld is at its thinnest. A ‘spirit night’, as they say in Wales.

All Hallow’s Eve is the eve of All Hallow’s Day (November1st). And for once, even popular tradition remembers that the Eve is more important than the Day itself, the traditional celebration focusing on October 31st, beginning at sundown. And this seems only fitting for the great Celtic New Year’s festival. Not that the holiday was Celtic only. In fact, it is startling how many ancient and unconnected cultures (the Egyptians and pre-Spanish Mexicans, for example) celebrated this as a festival of the dead. But the majority of our modern traditions can be traced to the British Isles.

The Celts called it Samhain, which means ‘summer’s end’, according to their ancient two-fold division of the year, when summer ran from Beltane to Samhain and winter ran from Samhain to Beltane. (Some modern Covens echo this structure by letting the High Priest ‘rule’ the Coven beginning on Samhain, with rulership returned to the High Priestess at Beltane.) According to the later four-fold division of the year, Samhain is seen as ‘autumn’s end’ and the beginning of winter. Samhain is pronounced (depending on where you’re from) as ‘sow-in’ (in Ireland), or ‘sow-een’ (in Wales), or ‘sav-en’ (in Scotland), or (inevitably) ‘sam-hane’ (in the U.S., where we don’t speak Gaelic).

Not only is Samhain the end of autumn; it is also, more importantly, the end of the old year and the beginning of the new. Celtic New Year’s Eve, when the new year begins with the onset of the dark phase of the year, just as the new day begins at sundown. There are many representations of Celtic gods with two faces, and it surely must have been one of them who held sway over Samhain. Like his Greek counterpart Janus, he would straddle the threshold, one face turned toward the past in commemoration of those who died during the last year, and one face gazing hopefully toward the future, mystic eyes attempting to pierce the veil and divine what the coming year holds. These two themes, celebrating the dead and divining the future, are inexorably intertwined in Samhain, as they are likely to be in any New Year’s celebration.

As a feast of the dead, it was believed the dead could, if they wished, return to the land of the living for this one night, to celebrate with their family, tribe, or clan. And so the great burial mounds of Ireland (sidhe mounds) were opened up, with lighted torches lining the walls, so the dead could find their way. Extra places were set at the table and food set out for any who had died that year. And there are many stories that tell of Irish heroes making raids on the Underworld while the gates of faery stood open, though all must return to their appointed places by cock-crow.

As a feast of divination, this was the night parexcellence for peering into the future. The reason for this has to do with the Celtic view of time. In a culture that uses a linear concept of time, like our modern one, New Year’s Eve is simply a milestone on a very long road that stretches in a straight line from birth to death. Thus, the New Year’s festival is a part of time. The ancient Celtic view of time, however, is cyclical. And in this framework, New Year’s Eve represents a point outside of time, when the natural order of the universe dissolves back into primordial chaos, preparatory to re-establishing itself in a new order. Thus, Samhain is a night that exists outside of time and hence it may be used to view any other point in time. At no other holiday is a tarot card reading, crystal reading, or tea-leaf reading so likely to succeed.

The Christian religion, with its emphasis on the ‘historical’ Christ and his act of redemption 2000 years ago, is forced into a linear view of time, where ‘seeing the future’ is an illogical proposition. In fact, from the Christian perspective, any attempt to do so is seen as inherently evil. This did not keep the medieval Church from co-opting Samhain’s other motif, commemoration of the dead. To the Church, however, it could never be a feast for all the dead, but only the blessed dead, all those hallowed (made holy) by obedience to God – thus, All Hallow’s, or Hallowmas, later All Saints and All Souls.

There are so many types of divination that are traditional to Hallowstide, it is possible to mention only a few. Girls were told to place hazelnuts along the front of the firegrate, each one to symbolize one of her suitors. She could then divine her future husband by chanting, ‘If you love me, pop and fly; if you hate me, burn and die.’ Several methods used the apple, that most popular of Halloween fruits. You should slice an apple through the equator (to reveal the five pointed star within) and then eat it by candlelight before a mirror. Your future spouse will then appear over your shoulder. Or, peel an apple, making sure the peeling comes off in one long strand, reciting, ‘I pare this apple round and round again; / My sweetheart’s name to flourish on the plain: / I fling the unbroken paring o’er my head, / My sweetheart’s letter on the ground to read.’ Or, you might set a snail to crawl through the ashes of your hearth. The considerate little creature will then spell out the initial letter as it moves.

Perhaps the most famous icon of the holiday is the jack-o-lantern. Various authorities attribute it to either Scottish or Irish origin. However, it seems clear that it was used as a lantern by people who traveled the road this night, the scary face to frighten away spirits or faeries who might otherwise lead one astray. Set on porches and in windows, they cast the same spell of protection over the household. (The American pumpkin seems to have forever superseded the, European gourd as the jack-o-lantern of choice.) Bobbing for apples may well represent the remnants of a Pagan ‘baptism’ rite called a ‘seining’, according to some writers. The water-filled tub is a latter-day Cauldron of Regeneration, into which the novice’s head is immersed. The fact that the participant in this folk game was usually blindfolded with hands tied behind the back also puts one in mind of a traditional Craft initiation ceremony.

The custom of dressing in costume and ‘trick-or-treating’ is of Celtic origin with survivals particularly strong in Scotland. However, there are some important differences from the modern version. In the first place, the custom was not relegated to children, but was actively indulged in by adults as well. Also, the ‘treat’ which was required was often one of spirits (the liquid variety). This has recently been revived by college students who go ‘trick-or-drinking’. And in ancient times, the roving bands would sing seasonal carols from house to house, making the tradition very similar to Yuletide wassailing.

In fact, the custom known as ‘caroling’, now connected exclusively with mid-winter, was once practiced at all the major holidays. Finally, in Scotland at least, the tradition of dressing in costume consisted almost exclusively of cross-dressing (i.e., men dressing as women, and women as men). It seems as though ancient societies provided an opportunity for people to ‘try on’ the role of the opposite gender for one night of the year. (Although in Scotland, this is admittedly less dramatic – but more confusing – since men were in the habit of earing skirt-like kilts anyway. Oh well…)

To Witches, Halloween is one of the four High Holidays, or Greater Sabbats, or cross-quarter days. Because it is the most important holiday of the year, it is sometimes called ‘THE Great Sabbat.’ It is an ironic fact that the newer, self-created Covens tend to use the older name of the holiday, Samhain, which they have discovered through modern research. While the older hereditary and traditional Covens often use the newer name, Halloween, which has been handed down through oral tradition within their Coven. (This is often holds true for the names of the other holidays, as well. One may often get an indication of a Coven’s antiquity by noting what names it uses for the holidays.)

With such an important holiday, Witches often hold two distinct celebrations. First, a large Halloween party for non-Craft friends, often held on the previous weekend. And second, a Coven ritual held on Halloween night itself, late enough so as not to be interrupted by trick-or-treaters. If the rituals are performed properly, there is often the feeling of invisible friends taking part in the rites. Another date which may be utilized in planning celebrations is the actual cross-quarter day, or Old Halloween, or Halloween O.S. (Old Style). This occurs when the sun has reached 15 degrees Scorpio, an astrological ‘power point’ symbolized by the Eagle. This year (1988), the date is November 6th at 10:55 pm CST, with the celebration beginning at sunset. Interestingly, this date (Old Halloween) was also appropriated by the Church as the holiday of Martinmas.

Of all the Witchcraft holidays, Halloween is the only one that still boasts anything near to popular celebration. Even though it is typically relegated to children (and the young-at-heart) and observed as an evening affair only, many of its traditions are firmly rooted in Paganism. Interestingly, some schools have recently attempted to abolish Halloween parties on the grounds that it violates the separation of state and religion. Speaking as a Pagan, I would be saddened by the success of this move, but as a supporter of the concept of religion-free public education, I fear I must concede the point. Nonetheless, it seems only right that there SHOULD be one night of the year when our minds are turned toward thoughts of the supernatural. A night when both Pagans and non-Pagans may ponder the mysteries of the Otherworld and its inhabitants. And if you are one of them, may all your jack-o’-lanterns burn bright on this All
