Chinese Milky Way Festival
This festival celebrates love and the art of weaving, similar to the Weaving Festival of Japan (July 7). The myth follows the life of the Sun God’s daughter, who falls in love with a humble herdsman one day while weaving. The two were married and soon the Goddess forgot about her weaving. This indifference toward her craft angered the Sun God, who then banished the herdsman to the other side of the Milky Way. On August 9, the two star-struck lovers are allowed to meet at the silver river of the Milky Way. The rest of the year, the Goddess must attend to her weaving.
