Burning of the Lamps
The Wicca Book of A ceremony called the Burning of the Lamps was held on June 24 in ancient Egypt. Dedicated to the Goddess Neith, it took place in a crypt beneath the temple of the great Goddess Isis in the city of Sais, and involved the circling of a coffin (representing the corpse of Osiris) by devotees bearing burning lamps (symbolizing lunar light and the moon’s powers of healing and resurrection ). This festival emphasized the roles that both Neith and Isis played in their aspect as moon and underworld deities, Neith was also regarded as the creator of Sais and the inventor of weaving.
