A Little Humor for Your Day – “How to Live a Long Life”

How to Live a Long Life

A passer-by noticed an old lady sitting on her front step: “I couldn’t help noticing how happy you look! What is your secret for such a long, happy life?”

“I smoke 4 packs of cigarettes a day”, she said. “Before I go to bed, I smoke a nice big joint. Apart from that, I drink a whole bottle of Jack Daniels every week, and eat only junk food. On weekends I pop a huge number of pills and do no exercise at all.”

“This is absolutely amazing at your age!”, says the passer-by. “How old are you?”

“Twenty four.”

Explanation: The Sunflower Galaxy blooms near the center of this wide field telescopic view. The scene spans about 2 degrees or 4 full moons on the sky toward the loyal constellation Canes Venatici. More formally known as Messier 63, the majestic island universe is nearly 100,000 light-years across, about the size of our own Milky Way Galaxy. Surrounding its bright yellowish core, sweeping spiral arms are streaked with cosmic dust lanes and dotted with star forming regions. A dominant member of a known galaxy group, M63 has faint, extended features that could be the the remains of dwarf satellite galaxies, evidence that large galaxies grow by accreting small ones. M63 shines across the electromagnetic spectrum and is thought to have undergone bursts of intense star formation.

Earth Sky News for August 4th: Moon and Mercury after sunset

Moon and Mercury after sunset August 4

Assuming you have clear skies, it’ll be possible to catch all five naked-eye planets by nightfall. In their order going outward from the sun, these five planets are Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn.

It’ll be considerably easier to spot Mars and Saturn, because they’ll be out until midnight at mid-northern latitudes and well past midnight at more southerly latitudes. At mid-northern latitudes, as darkness falls, look southward to spot Mars and Saturn near Antares, the brightest star in the constellation Scorpius the Scorpion. From the Southern Hemisphere, look high overhead as darkness falls for Mars and Saturn.

Bottom line: On August 4, 2016, at dusk and nightfall, use the moon to locate Mercury in the western sky, and go on from there to spot all five bright planets.

Mars in Sagittarius

Warrior Mars creates excitement with the adventurous Archer

Action planet Mars moves into adventurous Sagittarius on August 2, 2016, and this fiery combination should bring plenty of excitement into our lives over the next few weeks. Mars is a very active and assertive planet, and is very comfortable in the risk-taking sign of Sagittarius. This planet and this sign are complimentary to one another, as they share an impulsive nature and an eagerness to rush ahead into uncharted territory.

When Mars is in Sagittarius, he’s the bad boy who pushes boundaries; the rebel looking for a cause. Which means we’ll be able to harness this fiery, fearless energy to make things happen. But it’s also possible we’ll have so much reckless energy now that we take things too far, or act so impulsively that we make mistakes.

Religious zeal, philosophical fighting, legal battles and overseas wars are expressions of this combination. Our best approach to this heated transit is to cool it with logic and a moment’s pause before doing anything rash.

Your Ancient Symbol Card for Aug. 4th is The Storm (Oh, brother!)

Your Ancient Symbol Card for Today

The Storm

The Storm represents the trouble and discord that creep into our lives from time to time. The storm is represented by a tornado whirling its way across a fertile plain. Tornados are powerful but relatively small, short lived storms, which means that while the turmoil they indicate may be strong it will at least pass quickly. Like the tornado, The Storm is a force outside yourself and beyond your control. During a stormy period you may lose ground. However, knowing one is upon you can certainly help you keep your losses to a minimum, or even turn what might be a disaster into a windfall.

As a daily card, The Storm denotes a time when you should be prepared to face some large challenges in your life. You may find yourself losing more than you gain for awhile. The key to weathering the storm is preparation. You know its coming, so be ready for it and there is a possibility that you can transform a tumultuous event into something good.

Your Crowley Thoth Tarot Card for Aug. 4th is The Hierophant

Your Crowley Thoth Tarot Card for Today

The Hierophant

The Hierophant represents the protector of a culture’s heritage and traditions. His purpose is to defend and teach the established ways and beliefs a group embraces. He is inherently conventional and a true believer in the power of the group. He loves the structure of the group and its values. It is the task of The Hierophant to bring new members into the group—to prepare the uninitiated to take their rightful place in his culture. In this sense he is very much like a teacher or a priest. He also acts as the repository of his group’s history. The Hierophant is certainly not one to buck proper authority. However, he is staunch and worthy defender of the tried and true. He represents the positive aspects of tradition and conformity.
