Thursday & The Perfect Corresponding Spell

Thursdays are good days for travel and change. It’s the perfect day to re-arrange the furniture of your house and gain a new perspective on something. Even if you are not able to do any traveling on this day, you can still use Thursdays to do spells for travel. You can even do spells for positive change, and re -arrangement of your life. It’s a good idea to exercise on this day, as well. That way, your body can be in-shape by the time Friday comes along.

Vehicle Blessing Before Traveling

Goal: To bless a new or existing vehicle.

Optional extras: Sage smudge stick; salt and water

Notes: This spell can be used for any vehicle, including trucks, motorcycles, boats, etc. Before or during the spell, walk around the vehicle and smudge it with the sage, then sprinkle it with the salt and water. Visualize a shining shield being placed around the vehicle. (You can substitute the word car, truck, or whatever.)

With fire and air, I bless this vehicle
With earth and water, I bless this vehicle
May it run smoothly
May it carry me safely
Wherever I travel
And return me safely to my home
In the name of the goddess
I bless this vehicle
In the name of the god
I protect this vehicle

And all who travel in it
So Mote It Be

DAILY MAGICKAL APPLICATIONS FOR THURSDAY

DAILY MAGICKAL APPLICATIONS FOR THURSDAY

Thursday comes from the Latin Dies Iovis, which means “Jove’s day” Jove, or Jupiter as he was sometimes called, was the supreme god and patron of the ancient Romans. Jove/Jupiter is associated with wealth, leadership, thunder, and lightning. A lord of heaven, Jove/Jupiter was also a god of light, and his sacred color is white. In the Greek mythologies, this deity was known as Zeus. This fifth day of our bewitching week was eventually turned into the Old English Thursdaeg or Thunresdaeg, which translates to “thunder’s day” or, more simply, “Thor’s day.” This day of the week is named after Thor, the popular Norse god of thunder. Thor was the son of Odin. He carried a war hammer called Mjollnir, and it was this that made the thunder and lightning. All of these Thursday gods-Jupiter/Jove, Zeus, and Thor-were wielders of the thunderbolt.

Thursday has the planetary association of Jupiter, and this day of the week is associated with prosperity, abundance, leadership, and good health. Prosperity and abundance are the typical magickal concerns on a Thursday. However, the way people define prosperity can vary greatly between individuals.

Personally, I think prosperity and abundance aren’t about owning the biggest house, fanciest wardrobe, or the newest car. It’s about living within your means and living well. My definition of prosperity is having enough money in the checking account to cover the bills and to pay for the groceries; anything left over is gravy.

But with a family, there is always something. Just about the time you’re feeling confident, something pops up. Somebody has to go to the doctor or the dentist, or someone needs work done on their car. Or my daughter calls from college with the classic “send money” request. It’s enough to drive me bonkers! For instance, just this past month, I got hit up for sorority dues, book fees, dentist bills, a bit of car repair and, lest we forget, living money for my daughter while she is away at school. Ouch!

The aspiration to make your budget stretch and to find ways to cover extra expenses is a real need for just about everybody. So on this bewitching day, let’s look at some practical, magickal ways to increase your prosperity and try out a few enchanting ideas designed to create a little abundance and, last but not least good health.

Let’s Talk Witch – The Influence of Free Will

Trapped for the Craft
Let’s Talk Witch – The Influence of Free Will

One of the universal standards in ethical behavior is that you never perform energy work that manipulates the free will of another person. For instance, you do not ask the Universe to “make” someone love you if the or she does not have those feelings. You do not ask that someone to leave their home or job if you know that is not their desire. This is practical as well as ethical because the power of a person’s free will is very strong. It takes a tremendous amount of personal energy to overcome the free will of another and manipulate their life. This degree of energy is also normally not sustainable, so the effect would not last very long. Typically, such manipulation is NOT in our own greatest good anyway and would ground and neutralize. The point of using Bio-Universal energy is to work on yourself and your own life; not someone else’s.

If your goal involves other people, make certain that you are phrasing you goal in such a way that the impact of the result is on you rather than on others. If you want to manifest a romantic relationship, do not center your work on one person, but rather work toward a particular way you want to feel in a relationship and a certain type of relationship you desire. If you want a better paying job, do not work toward taking someone else’s job, but instead work toward how you want to feel in your new job and the details of the job you wish to have. This also opens up more options for the Universe to bring you what you want rather than limiting its focus on one particular situation.

One of the fastest ways your energy grounds is by your own free will getting in the way. Let’s say you don’t have a job and you know you really need one and if you don’t get one, you’re going to be in a serious financial lurch. You engage Bio-Universal energy to get a job, but you want to stay home in bed and not go to work. If your entire will is not behind the energy you send to your goal, your energy will be divided and weakened. It is important that you do the homework, so to speak, and clear away any internal obstacles you may have to your success. Maybe you ask that a relationship be healed when that really is not what you want. You might ask to attract buyers to your house when deep down, you do not want to move. Free will choices will not always derail your energy work, but they can most certainly slow it down.

Another way that Free Will has a major impact on magical endeavors is in the practice of gambling. One would think it would be easy to go to a slot machine, roulette wheel, or a card table send some energy toward the cards or the wheel and pour out a jackpot. The problem with gambling, especially lotteries, is that you are placing your free will choices up against those of many others who all want the target just as much as you do. The free will of all of those people pulls against and balances out your own free will interests. The free will desires of the casino are also at play. In short, gambling is one of the very few completely neutral places where if a win is meant to be, it will happen.

Thursday’s Witchery

Wiccan

Thursday’s Witchery

Today is the day for prosperity work of all kinds. It can also be used for healing work, whether that is a physical healing of an illness or an emotional healing. Also remember that you have to follow up your healing work and prosperity magick and physical action.

I can’t tell you the number of times I have met new witches who complain to me that their prosperity spell or “I need a better job” spell did not work as they expected. They’ll ramble on and on about how much time and money they spent working their magick….but, alas, they had no glorious manifestion of wealth or fabulous job that suddenly dropped out of the sky and landed in their laps.

Then, when I gently ask them, “Did you enchant your resume or application when you filled it out? Did you do a little confidence-boosting spellwork when you went to apply for the job or went to the interview?” typically they give me a blank, confused stare.

Nine times out of ten, their response is, “You mean I have to go out and actually look for the job too?” Um, yes, my dear, you certainly do. Magick follows the path of least resistance, which means it’s going to manifest along the simplest, quickest route. Get out there and hit the pavement. See what you can find. Times are tough and competition for good jobs is fierce, so you need whatever edge you can get. For folks like us, we’re going to get the edge by using our magick and our spellcraft.

Thursdays have such a rich source of magick for us to draw upon that, honestly, the sky is the limit. This is the day associated with the gods of the sky and heavens, after all. Get to know these deities and add their wisdom and magick into your days

Thursday – Jupiter’s (Thor’s) day

Wiccan Magic

Thursday

Jupiter’s (Thor’s) day

The name is derived from Old English Þūnresdæg and Middle English Thuresday (with loss of -n-, first in northern dialects, from influence of Old Norse Þorsdagr) meaning “Thor’s Day”. Thunor, Donar (German, Donnerstag) and Thor are derived from the name of the Germanic god of thunder, Thunraz, equivalent to Jupiter in the interpretatio romana.

In most Romance languages, the day is named after the Roman god Jupiter, who was the god of sky and thunder. In Latin, the day was known as Iovis Dies, “Jupiter’s Day”. In Latin, the genitive or possessive case of Jupiter was Iovis/Jovis and thus in most Romance languages it became the word for Thursday: Italian giovedì, Spanish jueves, French jeudi, Sardinian jòvia, Catalan dijous, and Romanian joi. This is also reflected in the p-Celtic Welsh dydd Iau.

The astrological and astronomical sign of the planet Jupiter (♃Jupiter) is sometimes used to represent Thursday.

Since the Roman god Jupiter was identified with Thunor (Norse Thor in northern Europe), most Germanic languages name the day after this god: Torsdag in Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish, Hósdagur/Tórsdagur in Faroese, Donnerstag in German or Donderdag in Dutch. Finnish and Northern Sami, both non-Germanic (Uralic) languages, uses the borrowing “Torstai” and “Duorastat”. In the extinct Polabian Slavic language, it was perundan, Perun being the Slavic equivalent of Thor.

There are a number of modern names imitating the naming of Thursday after an equivalent of “Jupiter” in local tradition. In most of the languages of India, the word for Thursday is Guruvar – var meaning day and guru being the style for Bṛhaspati, guru to the gods and regent of the planet Jupiter. In Thai, the word is Wan Pharuehatsabodi – referring to the Hindu deity Bṛhaspati, also associated with Jupiter. En was an old Illyrian deity and in his honor in the Albanian language Thursday is called “Enjte”. In the Nahuatl language, Thursday is Tezcatlipotōnal meaning “day of Tezcatlipoca”.

Linden Festival (Germany)

MINNE

Themes: Protection; Love; Luck; Devotion; Unity

Symbols: Linden Tree; Cup; Beer

About Minne:
Minne is a German goddess of love and fertility. Her name—meaning “remembrance”—was applied to a special cup for lovers in this part of the world. The cup was filled with specially prepared beer and raised between two people wishing to deepen their love. This gives Minne a strong association with devotion, unity, and fidelity.

To Do Today: During the second weekend in July, people in Geisenheim, Germany, gather around an ancient linden tree (six hundred-plus years old) and celebrate the year’s new wine. All aspects of the festival take place beneath the linden’s branches, which in magic terms represent safety and good fortune. The linden flowers portray Minne’s spirit, having been used in all manner of love magic! To protect a relationship, two lovers should carry dried linden flowers with them always.
When making a promise to each other, a couple may drink a wooden goblet of beer today, linking their destinies. Raise the glass to the sky first, saying,

Minne’s love upon our lips, devotion in each sip.

Drink while looking deeply into each other’s eyes. Or, exchange pieces of linden wood as a magical bonding that invokes Minne’s blessing. If linden isn’t native to your area, other trees and bushes that promote Minne’s loving qualities include avens, elm, lemon, orange, peach, pear, primrose, rose, and willow.

The half-month of Ur, primal strength, is a time of collective action, when our power as a soceity can be best applied to projects for the common good. It is a good time for beginnings, for this rune is sacred to the Norn, Urda, the primal foundation of things, and to the active principle in the shape of Thor, the hammer-welding thunder God.

Today is Thursday, July 14

Thursday is the day of the planet Jupiter, dedicated to Thunor(Thor), God of thunder and agricultural work. His parallels in various European traditions are Zeus, Taranis, Perun, Perkunas and St. Olaf. The faith of the Northern Tradition holds Thursday sacred, just as Islam reveres Friday, Judaism the Sabbath(calculated from sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday), and Christianity, Sunday. This is why almost all adages about Thursday are positive, such as “Thursday’s child has far to go,” “Sneeze on Thursday, something better,” or “Cut nails on Thursday for wealth.” Thursday rules controlled optimism, energetic growth, physical well-being and material success.

The Sky This Week: July 14 – July 17

Asteroid 7 Iris makes an appearance, Pluto still shines, and the Delta Aquarid meteor shower begins to fall.

By Richard Talcott

Thursday, July 14
The waxing gibbous Moon forms a flat triangle with Mars and Saturn tonight. The Moon stands highest and about 8° to Mars’s upper left once darkness falls; Saturn lies approximately 16° to the Red Planet’s left.

Friday, July 15
For observers in North America, the Moon appears 3° above Saturn this evening. The ruddy 1st-magnitude star Antares in Scorpius the Scorpion lies 10° below the Moon while Mars blazes well to the trio’s right.

Saturday, July 16
If you like observing challenges, tonight is your night. Mercury passes just 0.5° (the diameter of a Full Moon) north of Venus in the early evening sky. From 40° north latitude, the two lie less than 4° high in the west-northwest 20 minutes after sunset. With a flat horizon and pristine skies, you might just glimpse the pair through binoculars. At magnitude –3.9, Venus will be the easier of the two to spot (Mercury glows at magnitude –1.0).

Sunday, July 17
Observers of the outer solar system should target Uranus this week before the Moon sheds its unwanted light into the predawn sky. The best time to look for it is shortly before twilight begins around 4 a.m. local daylight time. Uranus then lies 40° high in the northeast among the background stars of Pisces the Fish. This morning, use binoculars to find the magnitude 5.8 planet about 4° west of 4th-magnitude Omicron (o) Piscium and 3° north of 5th-magnitude Mu (m) Psc. A telescope reveals Uranus’ blue-green disk, which spans 3.5″.

Cosmic Weather Report for Thursday, July 14th

Mercury enters Leo

Mercury in Leo thinks and communicates in a positive way. Mercury in this fiery, fixed sign is usually able to plan well, organise things, and pour energy into any projects or courses that capture the imagination.

Of course, there’s some swashbuckling Leo dramatic flair – which can lean towards exaggeration – but that can be a very useful trait in creative work, or when setting out to convince others.

Mercury in Leo can be kind and helpful, particularly when practical help is needed. You’ll read that Leo is a bossy sign. But, you know, some people like it when others take the lead. The worst you can say of Mercury in Leo is that it sometimes indicates a dogmatic, patronising attitude. Self-awareness can make this unattractive trait go away, or at least fade into the background.

You may have Mercury in Leo if your Sun sign is Cancer, Leo, or Virgo – depending on the year you were born.

Current Moon Phase: Waxing Gibbous

fantasy
Current Moon Phase: Waxing Gibbous

The Moon today is in a Waxing Gibbous phase. This phase is when the moon is more than 50% illuminated but not yet a Full Moon. The phase lasts round 7 days with the moon becoming more illuminated each day until the Full Moon. During a Waxing Gibbous the moon will rise in the east in mid-afternoon and will be high in the eastern sky at sunset. The moon is then visible though most of the night sky setting a few hour before sunrise. The word Gibbous first appeared in the 14th century and has it’s roots in the Latin word “gibbous” meaning humpbacked.
