Days of the Week – Thursday

QuEeN Of DrAgOn by Selenya
Days of the Week – Thursday

Thursday is a day of royal blues and greens, associated with the planet Jupiter and metals like tin. When it comes to deities, look at leader type gods like Thor, Zeus, and Jupiter. Gemstone correspondences for Thursday include turquoise, amethyst and lapis lazuli, and plant associations can be found in honeysuckle, cinquefoil, and even oak trees.

This is a day for honor, fealty and family loyalty, as well as harvesting, success, and prosperity.

Take advantage of Thursday’s different aspects and do spellwork that brings abundance to you, declares your allegiance, and embraces prosperity.

Thursday’s Witchery

Dragon Fairy
Thursday’s Witchery

Today is the day for prosperity work of all kinds. It can also be used for healing work, whether that is a physical healing of an illness or an emotional healing. Also remember that you have to follow up your healing work and prosperity magick and physical action.

I can’t tell you the number of times I have met new witches who complain to me that their prosperity spell or “I need a better job” spell did not work as they expected. They’ll ramble on and on about how much time and money they spent working their magick….but, alas, they had no glorious manifestation of wealth or fabulous job that suddenly dropped out of the sky and landed in their laps.

Then, when I gently ask them, “Did you enchant your resume or application when you filled it out? Did you do a little confidence-boosting spellwork when you went to apply for the job or went to the interview?” typically they give me a blank, confused stare.

Nine times out of ten, their response is, “You mean I have to go out and actually look for the job too?” Um, yes, my dear, you certainly do. Magick follows the path of least resistance, which means it’s going to manifest along the simplest, quickest route. Get out there and hit the pavement. See what you can find. Times are tough and competition for good jobs is fierce, so you need whatever edge you can get. For folks like us, we’re going to get the edge by using our magick and our spellcraft.

Thursdays have such a rich source of magick for us to draw upon that, honestly, the sky is the limit. This is the day associated with the gods of the sky and heavens, after all. Get to know these deities and add their wisdom and magick into your days

THE WIZARD AND HIS DRAGONS
Thursday, April 7th

Thursday is the day of the planet Jupiter, dedicated to Thunor(Thor), god of thunder and agricultural work. His parallels in various European traditions are Zeus, Taranis, Perun, Perkunas, and St. Olaf. The faith of the Northern Tradition holds Thursday sacred. This is why almost all adages about Thursday are positive, such as “Thursday’s child has far to go,” “Sneeze on Thursday, some better,” or “Cut nails on Thursday for wealth.” Thursday rules controlled optimism, energetic growth, physical well-being, and material success.

The Wicca Book of Days for April 7th – The Wheel of the Year

Imagine the possibilities...
The Wicca Book of Days for April 7th

The Wheel of the Year

Eight is the number of spokes, or sabbats, that make up the Wiccan Wheel of the Year (note that all dates are approximate, and that names vary). The sabbats are: Samhain (October 31), Yule (December 21, or Winter Solstice), Imbolc (February 1), Ostara (March 22, or Spring Equinox), Beltane (May 1), Litha (June 21 or Summer Solstice), Lughnasadh (August 1), Mabon (September 22 or Autumn Equinox), Yule, Ostara, Litha, and Mabon (Solar Festivals) are known as the lesser sabbats, while Samhain, Imbolc, Beltane and Lughnasadh are the greater sabbats.

Eight Tools

If you do not already own the witch’s eight traditional working tools, consider whether you need any or all, of the following: an athame (a black-handled dagger), a white-handled dagger or sword, a chalice, a wand, a scourge, cords, an incense censer and a pentacle.

The Sky This Week: April 7 – 10

A good time for Zodical light, Mars grows brighter, and the Beehive Cluster buzzes into a prime position.

Thursday, April 7
New Moon occurs at 7:24 a.m. EDT. At its New phase, the Moon crosses the sky with the Sun and so remains hidden by our star. Because the Moon reaches perigee, the closest point in its orbit around Earth, only six hours later (at 1:36 p.m. EDT), residents in coastal areas can expect higher than normal tides for the next few days. At perigee, the center of the Moon lies 221,931 miles (357,163 kilometers) from Earth’s center.

Saturday, April 9
One of the spring sky’s finest deep-sky objects, the Beehive star cluster (M44) in the constellation Cancer the Crab, lies high in the south after darkness falls. With naked eyes under a dark sky, you should be able to spot this star group as a faint cloud even though a crescent Moon also occupies the evening sky. But the Beehive explodes into dozens of stars through binoculars or a small telescope.
Uranus is in conjunction with the Sun at 5 p.m. EDT. From our earthly perspective, this means the distant planet lies behind the Sun and so is out of sight. Uranus will return to view in the morning sky in May.

Sunday, April 10
The waxing crescent Moon appears just above the 1st-magnitude star Aldebaran in this evening’s sky. Binoculars provide the best view of this close conjunction because they also clearly reveal the neighboring Hyades, a V-shaped star cluster that Aldebaran appears to anchor. For residents of the United States, the Moon appears to pass in front of Aldebaran during the afternoon hours, at approximately 6 p.m. EDT (3 p.m. PDT).

Dedication to the Goddess

The Goddess brings us no more or
less than we are to her
She is the power for us to find
ourselves
She is the light that guides our
ways
She is the hand that extends when
we are lost
She finds our heart and soul
For she knows what we hide
She bears all for us
For she is Mother and we are child

Good Thursday Morning, my sweets! A Quickie Before We Get Started….

witchcraft
I hope you are having a fantastic Thursday. We might be running just a tad-bit late today. I don’t know though because the ladies are working their little fingers off but anyway…..Verizon and AT&T had a fiber optic wire cut last night. This outage took out the entire end of Western Kentucky. They don’t know what happened but it left us without internet. Our little Co-Op gets their services from Verizon. Verizon goes down so does our Co-Op. So like I said we might be running a little late but I don’t think so. If we are, you know why.

Another thing real quick, I was surfing some of the sites last night. I noticed on several of the sites, you have us listed on yours either with link or our banner. What I was wondering if you have us listed on your site and your site is not listed on our “Links/Awards” page, will you please let me know. I felt terrible when I ran across several sites that had us listed and we have no mention of them. That’s not right, please send me your site’s url and I will gladly add it to our page. I appreciate it and honored that you are adding us to your site. But please, please, send me your link so I can add you.

Ok, that’s it. Got to run for now…..

See you shortly,

Love ya,

Lady A

Pennyroyal

Pennyroyal Mint

Mentha pulegium of LamiaceaPennyroyal

Of all the edible flowers and plants out there, there is one that sticks out to me as both extremely useful, and yet so feared for its potency at times that it seems people shy away from using it even though it could really help in terms of living a sustainable lifestyle.  I think, just like anything with natural medicine, one must take a scientific approach before deciding one way or another on a plant being useful to them or a specimen to keep away from and simply acknowledge.

Pennyroyal Uses

One of the lesser known and most potent members of the mint family, pennyroyal is a very poignant flowering plant whose dried leaves and oil have numerous uses by people both present and in the past.

A member of the Lamiacea family, Pennyroyal was used as a culinary herb, folk remedy, insect repellant, and emmenagogue (or menstrual flow stimulant) among the Greco-Roman and European cultures.  Frequently misunderstood, the essential oil of Pennyroyal can be used in aromatherapy, but if ingested, can be highly toxic to humans and animals affecting liver and uterine functions.

Background

Despite this fact, in the past dried leaves of Pennyroyal were actually used as a cooking herb and flavor for wines by the Greeks and Romans.  Even in the Medieval Ages, the leaves were used to flavor pudding.  As English settlers colonized Virginia, the herb was widely relied upon for pest eradication and as a tea that would treat many conditions and disease such as smallpox and tuberculosis.

Uses

Although in the modern day, pennyroyal could probably not stand a chance against RAID or other cans of mosquito repellant or bug killer, the flowering herb does have many utilities I would like to at least speak of due to its usefulness.

  • Insect Repellant: I have personally used pennyroyal essential oil as a way of preventing mosquitos from biting me, as they are very prone, and have had a good amount of success.  Since I wear it on the skin, it has never bothered me, but I would not recommend contacting any hand that touches or rubs the oil to the mouth, for the oil can be toxic even in very small doses.
  • Aromatherapy:  Pennyroyal has a very potent mint scent to it.  This can be used in aromatherapy to help clear up a cold, flu, or just making a place smell really, really clean.
  • Pest Control: Although I have used pennyroyal essential oil before to clear out some unwanted fleas brought in by my dog, I would advise caution on where you dabble it and how much.  Since the oil is toxic to humans and animals, it is personally recommended that you use it only on items or in ways that no one or furry family member will ingest.  Otherwise, it really does the trick in sending those fleas packing! They can’t stand the stuff.

A Word of Caution

Pennyroyal was used famously in the past as a menstrual flow stimulant and an abortifacient or abortion inducer.  It was usually turned into a tea, or some women have even taken the essential oil down directly.  This is most certainly NOT RECOMMENDED, as multiple deaths have been attributed to an overdose of even a minute quantity of this plant’s oil.  When it comes to uses involving this plant’s potent properties taken internally, I cannot recommend any use other than the three listed above, for as of now I have not heard of any safe dosage amount to be used by people of this plant

Final Note

If one were to ask me about what I thought in regards to Pennyroyal, I would say that I think it is one of the most intriguing members of the mint family.  Its strong scent and potency as well as the curious history it has had through its uses have made it a plant that is quite memorable.  Around my home, I frequently carry a bottle of pennyroyal essential oil in my medicine cabinet since discovering it during my days of studying ethnobotany in college.  I have found it to be very useful at times, and if you are a fan of natural replacements for things such as bug spray, this might be a convenient plant oil for you.

A Little Humor for Your Day – “Contractors”

Contractors

Three contractors are bidding to fix a broken fence at the White House in D.C..

One from New Jersey, another from Tennessee and the third, Florida. They go with a White House official to examine the fence.

The Florida contractor takes out a tape measure and does some Measuring, then works some figures with a pencil. “Well,” he says, “I figure the job will run about $900: $400 for materials, $400 for my crew and $100 profit for me.”

The Tennessee contractor also does some measuring and figuring, then says, I can do this job for $700: $300 for materials, $300 for my crew and $100 profit for me.”

The New Jersey contractor doesn’t measure or figure, but leans over to the White House official and whispers, “$2,700.”

The official, incredulous, says, “You didn’t even measure like the other guys! How did you come up with such a high figure?”

The New Jersey contractor whispers back, “$1,000 for me, $1,000 for you, and we hire the guy from Tennessee to fix the fence.”

“Done!” replies the government official.
