The Full Moon

Moon & Witch Comments & Graphics
The Full Moon

About 15 days after the New Moon, the Full Moon first appears. At this point the Moon is on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun, so she rises around sunset and sets around dawn.

The Sun shines full on her face and tides are at their extremes again. Some may sense the pull of the Sun from one direction, and the moon from the opposite, and their energy will feel a bit scattered.

Hold a party of an event, but be aware that the energy level is likely to be high and anything troublesome is likely to surface. Cook and stock up the freezer. Pay special attention to your creative ventures and your dreams.

This is a good time to try out forms of divination such as scrying or tarot. Reflect about your goals, feelings and matters that have to do with relationship and family. It is also good for transformations, psychic abilities, strength, love, power, and fertility.

The Full Moon is an excellent time to cleanse, purify and charge your crystals. Lay them out so that the moonlight can hit them; if you can do so safely, leave them outside. If not, find a windowsill that catches the moonlight. Don’t just stop at crystals though, your magical tools will also benefit from soaking up the power of the moonlight.

As the Full Moon just passes, the time arrives to put the finishing touches on what you have been doing and to get ready for the quieter time to come. Enjoy beauty and art, listen to music. If you have argued with someone but do not feel the issues are really vital, make up now.

If you live near the sea the Full Moon is a wonderful time to visit the shoreline and build a small fire. Collect small pieces of driftwood to build your fire and as you lay each piece onto the fire add a wish.

Once the fire is burning nicely, cast offerings into the flames as gifts to the Moon Goddess, such as herbs, flowers and leaves. Sit and watch as the fire burns. If you don’t live near the sea you could turn this into a visualization for a Full Moon meditation.

Wednesday Is Ruled By Mercury

Moon & Witch Comments & GraphicsWednesday Is Ruled By Mercury

Wednesdays are wild and wacky days. They are for communication, change, cunning, and the arts. This is a Mercury day, and just its patron god this day is full of contradictions, change, and excitement. Some suggestions for Wednesday enchantments would include:

Pulling a little Wednesday color magic into your life by wearing purples or orange

Carrying a multipurpose agate with you and tapping into its various charms

Working with magical plants such as the fern for protection. This plant will also boost the power of any other magical plants with which it is arranged.

Incorporating lavender into charms and spells for transformation

Using the charming scent of lily of the valley to improve your memory, or working with the aspen tree for communication

Calling on Athena, patron of arts and crafts, for inspiration for a new project

Fanning out a Tarot spell to increase you creativity

Calling on Hermes on a Wednesday night to bring movement and good luck into your life

Seasons of the Witch – Legends and Lore, Ancient Holidays And Some Not So Ancient!

Today Is …

July 1

July was named after the great leader Julius Caesar, who was born in this summer month. Because the warm weather continues, activity levels are high, even though the days are beginning to shorten. Consequently, numerous festivals during this month focus on family, friends, and social interaction.

For magical purposes, July directs our attention to personal growth and improvements. This includes increasing your knowledge, continuing efforts for prosperity, creating new ideas and works of art, and also taking time out periodically to really enjoy yourself. Our society sometimes mistakes much-needed leisure time for laziness, but this month’s energies know better. Go and have fun, carrying the Goddess with you for a little extra energy.

The energy of July builds on the clarity of June. As we become more aware both of the creative fire within ourselves, and of the promptings toward greater awareness that come both from the Archangels and our personal guardian angels, we become more attuned to the pulse of the Universe and our own part in bringing about heaven on earth, the awakening of all beings to our true potential as co-creators with each other and the Divine One.

Celebrate your ability to be a part of Goddess religion. Light a candle on your altar for the religious freedom of Women everywhere.

The month of July opens in Nepal with the Naga Panchami festival, which is devoted to the Snake-Gods called Nagas. Sacred snake images are displayed on religious altars, offerings are made at snake holes, and parades featuring live serpents fill the main streets of many villages.

In Japan, this day is sacred to Fuji, the ancient Japanese Goddess of Fire. Fuji is also regarded as the grandmother of Japan, and on this special day (which also marks the start of Mount Fuji Climbing Season) she is honored with prayers and burnt offerings.

Legends and Lore for July

July, the seventh month of the current Gregorian calendar and the second month of Summer’s rule, derives its name from Julius (Julius Caesar).

The traditional birthstone amulet of July is the ruby; and the larkspur and the water lily are the month’s traditional flowers.

July is shared by the astrological signs of Cancer the Crab and Leo the Lion, and is sacred to the following Pagan deities: Apt (or Apet), Athena, Sothis, Spider Woman, and Rosea.

Japan: Fuji, the ancient Goddess of Fire and the Grandmother of Japan, is honored with prayers and burnt offerings.

Nepal: Naga Panchami – festival devoted to the Snake-Gods called Nagas. Snake images are displayed on altars, offerings made at snake holds, and parades with live serpents crowd the main streets in many villages.

1975: Day endangered species became internationally protected; a day to celebrate all the world’s creatures. The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora was signed/adopted on 3/3/1973, but wasn’t enforced 7/1/1975

July 1 – Founder’s Day – Lynnie Levy and Jade River have birthdays one day apart. (Although Lynnie is several year older than Jade) Lynnie’s birthday is July 1st and Jade’s is July 2nd. Celebrate your ability to be a part of Goddess religion. Light a candle on your altar for the religious freedom of women everywhere.

NOTE: Because of the large number of ancient calendars, many in simultaneous use, as well as different ways of computing holy days (marked by the annual inundation, the solar year, the lunar month, the rising of key stars, and other celestial and terrestrial events), you may find these holy days celebrated a few days earlier or later at your local temple.

Meditate on Odin and see what you can discover about him. I wonder what sort of fabulous and fascinating magickal wisdom you will uncover? Odin is a shaman, after all; he may appear in many guises and faces. I guarantee that he will make you laugh at yourself before he is through with you, but you will learn. It’s up to you what you do with that knowledge. Will you let it shapeshift into wisdom?

Tasha’s Astro Planner for July 2015

Moon & Witch Comments & GraphicsTasha’s Astro Planner for July 2015

July begins with a Full Moon and ends with one too. This is a month with a lot of impact, so it seems fitting that it will begin and end that way. Adding to the Full Moon on July 1 there is an early AM conjunction of Jupiter and Venus, making for a day with great potential for pleasure and gratification. Later that day Sun trine Neptune provides potential spiritual uplift and for those who can listen, a chance to hear some heavenly music.

Full Moon in Capricorn on the 1st implies some kind of a boost or growth for business and/or politics. Expect some interesting announcements. The New Moon in Cancer on the 15th Is a good time to begin projects for the home, possibly involving food preservation, or to initiate family get-togethers or other gatherings in the home. The second full Moon of this month is on the 31st, in Aquarius. This is an altruistic Moon, experiences or opportunities involving helping humanity can be planned for or expected.

July 15, the day of the New Moon in Cancer there are two Pluto oppositions involving Mars and Mercury. If possible avoid travel that day. Use the available energy to dig through and discard or transform possessions you no longer need or want. Make elimination and change a choice. The Sun Pluto opposition of the 6th is another day for putting your sense of discrimination to work. On the 18th be very mindful if using tools or traveling. Accidents can happen. The 24th, 25th and 26th are very powerful days. Plan to do something strenuous in a unique or unusual fashion, perhaps involving or creating a breakthrough.

The 21st, 22nd and 23rd are excellent days to make progress with organization and structure. It will be easy to think clearly and speak directly to any issue. The month of July holds many days that will be useful for eliminating, organizing, restructuring and moving forward with what needs to be done. Make plans and discuss, however hold off on beginning any big projects. Mercury moves through three signs this month, Venus enters Virgo and then goes retrograde on the 25th, choices may be rethought or reconsidered then.

Mars stays in Cancer all month, Real Estate may boom, there could be stomach illnesses in the news. Jupiter continues in Leo. The theater may benefit as well as children or things involving them. Saturn continues retrograde in Scorpio, making for chances to go back over any structure, whether physical or other, to make sure it is solid. Uranus turns Retrograde on the 26th, a day of high impact. What is important is to use the available energies in the best way possible. Check my website at www.heartwingslovenotes.com for my day by day planner which can also be found on Granny Moon’s Morning Feast. The stars are there to guide us, not afflict us. Let us be grateful and use their guidance well.

What A Glorious Day, Our Lady Moon Shines Her Blessings Down On Us This Eve!

Days of the Week Comments=Moon Rise

As the moon so bright and full rises in the sky
we look upwards to see our Mother
As the wild ground phlox bloom to its glorious pink
we look to see our Mother.
As the birds return and their voices fill the wind
we look to see our Mother.

The burrows are empty and the animals roam the woods,
our Mother is there.
The caves are empty as the bears roam the forest,
our Mother is there.
The wolf has emerged and she takes her place on the ridge
howling towards the wind, our Mother is there.

We feel drawn to the earth, our Mother calls us.
We feel drawn to the moon, our Mother calls us.
We feel the wind around us, our Mother calls us.

I stand before the moon and face my Mother.
I stand with arms reached out and face my Mother.
I stand humbled before her beauty and face my Mother.

I send the hopes of my family.
I send the prayers of my Sisters and Brothers.
I send peace and love.

May she answer my prayers.
May she answer my hopes.
May she answers my wishes.

Blessings to my Sisters and Brothers.
Blessings to our families.
Blessings to our animals.

All is done.
All is well.

What & When is a Blue Moon?

High Priestess Raven Spirit Walker's avatarEnchanted Circle of Witches®

There are two astronomical definitions of a Blue Moon; both are a type of Full Moon. When the Moon very rarely actually looks blue, it’s because of a certain size dust particles in the atmosphere.

Once in a blue moon means very rarely. But just how rare depends on your definition.

In astronomy, Blue Moon is defined as either the third full moon of an astronomical season with four full moons or the second full moon in a calendar month.

Such a blue Moon (second full Moon in single calendar month) will next occur on Friday, July 31, 2015 at 10:43 am UTC.

Contrary to popular belief, a blue moon is not actually blue in color. Blue moon is a term that is used to describe the third full moon…

Black Moon is not a well known term in the astronomy world. In recent years, the term has been made popular by astrologers and followers of the Wiccan religion.

No Single Definition

There is no single accepted definition of a Black Moon. The term has been commonly used to refer to any of the following phenomena associated with the New Moon:

  • Second New Moon in a calendar month: These Black Moons occur relatively often – once every 2.5 years.
  • Third new moon in a season of four New Moons: Astronomers divide a year into fourseasons – spring, summer, fall (autumn)…

The intermediate phases between the primary phases are, waxing crescent, waxing gibbous, waning gibbous, and waning crescent.

New Moon

A new moon is the moment when the Sun and Moon are in conjunction, meaning that the Sun and Earth are on the opposite sides of the Moon.

A New Moon cannot normally be seen from the Earth since only the dark side of the Moon faces the Earth at New Moon. Sometimes, if the New Moon is close to the Lunar nodes of its path, it causes a Solar Eclipse.
