As a result, for most of the summer it’ll be more about learning lessons in love than enjoying hot and heavy endless summer nights. Try not to see this as a total downer though. In fact, there will be a golden opportunity to take stock of where you are along your personal romantic journey and appreciate it in a whole new light. Try not to focus exclusively on how far you have yet to travel, but also acknowledge how far you’ve come. And with Venus retrograde in Leo remember the ultimate lesson she is trying to teach all of us: self-love. If you’re single, you’ll have an excellent chance to meet someone special at a party, or other fun event. Pay attention to June 29 for sparks to fly if you’re in a relationship. On that day, love planet Venus will be at a gorgeous angle to the electrifying Uranus. Make the most of this stimulating aspect and dare to do something with your partner that takes both of you out of your comfort zone.

Until July 18, you’ll enjoy opportunities to make a romantic connection with someone through your social life. Pay close attention to developments on July 1, when Venus and Jupiter embrace.  A friend may offer to set you up with someone and it’s also possible that you’ll entertain the prospect of going from friends to lovers with a close pal. If you do make a move in this direction however, expect some re-adjustments between July 31 and September 6 when Venus moves retrograde through your friendship sector. With Saturn moving through the final degrees of your sign until September 17, getting things right in the relationship department has a certain sense of urgency. Today Venus enters the territory over which she will retrograde as of July 25, heralding the start of the ‘Venus shadow’ period. Venus Retrogrades happen just under every couple of years, and offer a fabulous opportunity to review, reshuffle, rewire, heal, clear and transform all that is Venusy: love, relationships, self-love, self-value, self-worth, our inner feminine qualities, how we view ourselves and others as women (both individually and collectively), our ability to receive nourishment, nurturing and pleasure, and express ourselves creatively.
Venus is most commonly associated with love, but really she stands for the Feminine, which ultimately affects everything from our relationships to our income, abundance, health, happiness and heart fulfillment.

 
The simplest way of looking at how a Retrograde phase works, including its Shadow periods, is: Let’s say you are driving from San Diego up to San Francisco. You pass through LA but a couple hours later in Santa Barbara you realise you forgot something in LA! So you head back there, pick up what you need, and resume your drive up the coast. Eventually you cruise past the spot in Santa Barbara where you had to turn around, and then it’s into fresh new territory from then on!

 
So the patch of road between LA and Santa Barbara is one you will end up driving on three times: heading up the first time, reversing to get your forgotten stuff, and then heading up again. These 3 drives represent the Pre-retrograde Shadow, the Retrograde phase itself, and finally the Post-retrograde Shadow.

 
Most people know about the Santa Barbara back to LA part of a retrograde, but don’t know about factoring in the two Shadow periods to help understand life changes and inner shifts during this time.

Venus & Your Magnetics ~ Venus rules everything we truly care about and how we go about creating or acquiring it. Among other things, it rules love, art and beauty, all things that can be physical but the feeling they give us when we experience them is subtle, magnetic energy that draws us in and speaks directly to the heart. The heart is the only electro-magnetic organ in our bodies and directly links us to both the inner core as well as and the outer field which surrounds & protects Earth. When Earth or its atmosphere are zapped with intense energy, we definitely feel it too because we are eternally connected. When Venus is expressing Taurus values, it is all about the physical experience of beauty, while with Libra it is all about the essence. Venus Cycles – Past/Future ~ If we track the last few Venus cycles, one way to look at it is that we got a completely new identity activated when Venus Retrograded through *ARIES* (2009-2010) which was followed by cultivating new values & priorities, based on this “new identity” which opened up access to our innate power to co-create our lives. As Venus Retrograded through *SCORPIO* (2010-2011), we got to cleanse & clear any deeply buried karmic debris blocking full expression of clean, authentic power and true self-worth. As Venus Retrograded through *GEMINI* (2012), we got to explore the infinite ways we can express ourselves at this new level of consciousness and release out-dated thinking & obsolete processes.

As Venus Retrograded through *CAPRICORN* (2013-2014), we got to put a brand new structure in place that actually helps us make better decisions and create more fundamental stability, as well as personal security, based on the new values & priorities. If we’ve anchored the fundamentals in a secure way, then this new Venus Cycle thru *LEO* (2015) will be our final exam on working with magnetics for sure, with both rewards & revelations about what we magnetize & repel, naturally. 2017 will bring us full circle back to Aries Retro & we can rebirth yet again! Venus Retrogrades every 18-months, which means that our *Values & Priorities* shift, in small ways, on a fairly regular basis, but in huge ways every 8-years. Getting a rhythm to this, internally, will help you flow with your own personal evolution with far less fear or anxiety & much moretrust in the natural order of things, which includes your own natural evolution.

Venus in LEO ~ Consider this 4+ month period (June – Oct 2015) as an introduction to your newly Emergent Self! You have been through a full cycle of evolution since the last Venus Retro thru LEO (2007). Explore a little. Review the last 8-yrs of your life. How have you grown & evolved? How have your values & priorities shifted regarding love, sex, fun, creativity & how you express who you really are? What is all that ‘worth’ to you (then & now)? What is the difference in how you expressed your Self in 2007, and how you want to express in new ways NOW (2015)? What have you learned about your Self? It’s also a good time to look at the Houses & Planets with Leo energy activated to know what specifics are coming up for you personally. But in general, we are all going to have to deal with Venus’ extended stay in Leo, which will give you a chance to review any issues around expressing your Authentic Self and making your Unique Contribution. Like I said, Venus is all about your innate magnetics ~ what you naturally magnetize & repel ~ and Leo is all about being courageous & heart-centered and sharing your Light with others, with love, joy & detachment. As you are able to anchor this renewed sense of Self, that you’ve developed over the last 8-yrs, there will be new opportunities for new friends & new experiences … but you have to be brave! Remember, when you are centered in who you are, you give others permission to also operate from their center, and everyone has a more authentic exchange, which allows the vibration to remain high or rise even higher.

Essentially, it is time to own, activate & truly embody your Inner Artist ~ that part of you that expresses naturally, from the inside-out. It’s also a time deeply supported for re-connecting with your Inner Child/Innocent Child’s Heart within, that’s the part of you capable of being alive, happy & fully present in the moment and fully engaged with life, taking it all in, and then sharing your ideas, feelings & unique gifts. It’s time to share your Self with the world, get out & play, have fun and lighten up! We must lighten our hearts most of all. On some level, the mourning period is over and we are on the back-side of the Life/Death/Life cycle, rebirthing, coming alive, waking up. We’ve died to the Old Self (last 8-years minimum) and are taking the vital pieces left to re-assemble a more Authentic Self, at a Higher Level, here & now.

Venus Retro brings the necessary review of values & priorities (Venus) where your personal self-love, self-esteem & self-worth issues (Leo) are all concerned. More than ever, we have to operate from Heart-Center, you have to care to get engaged and so you must clear away all that you do not care about, so that what you do care about has more room to grow & evolve. One of my mantras is that my personal sanctuary is where everything I love, I get to do for *FUN*! That’s my hope for this Leo infusion of energy, light & renewal. The Retro period should afford you time to *Review* your personal self-care routines, as well as your primary Love or Work relationships and prepare to be your Self more fully and let the chips fall where they may. This Venus work is going to be very personal for those with Leo/Aquarius and Taurus/Scorpio activated in their charts. Things that were important to you 8-years ago are probably not so vital now, and things that were not even on your list of priorities may have moved to the top. In this case, Leo means your core essential nature & authentic self-expression has evolved over the last 8-years and adjustments to your personal presentation & current playmates should begin to reflect the *upgrade*.

Here is the other thing to consider. 2012 was a pivotal time and it seems our consciousness was, and continues to be, expanded since then. Venus’ Retro that year in Gemini introduced us to many expanded ideas, higher-level thoughts & wildly new concepts but it was difficult to ground any one, let alone all the ones that caught our attention. Since then, we’ve spent the last cycle in Capricorn creating *containers* for many of these new ideas, concepts & communities, as well as creating more structure to our lives. NOW ~ her Leo cycle will allow you to make it beautiful, flesh it out so that it radiates YOU! You should always end each spell with a phrase such as, “And harm none, so be it.” or “To the greater good, let it be done.” You want to add this in so that your spell does not hurt anyone else.

Next choose when you will perform your spell. Getting the spell cast at the right phase in the lunar cycle should be top priority. After that is sorted out, you can choose the most auspicious day.

Candles are a powerful magical tool and can be useful to help you focus. Choose candles in colors related to what you are asking for or colors sacred to the deity of your choice.

You can also see whether or not there are any magical symbols that will aid your spell – these can be carved into the candles or drawn on a piece of paper.

It may be useful to have a representation of the person that the spell is about, if applicable.

Don’t get too caught up in the makings of the spell though – sometimes the simplest ones are the best.

Philter Recipe for Courage

  • One small decorative glass bottle, red if you can find it
  • Base oil, approximately Vs cup (sunflower or almond oil)
  • Clean dropper
  • 3 drops ginger oil
  • z drops basil oil or 2 fresh basil leaves
  • i drop black pepper oil
  • i small fresh holly leaf
  • Small red jasper chip
  • 6 inches thin red or black satin ribbon
  • i small metal protective charm or talisman of your choosing (such as a tiny pentagram, a star, or even the Eye of Horus)
  • A label and a pen (to list the ingredients and to decorate and mark the bottle)

Pour the base oil into the bottle, enough to fill it three quarters of the way full. Add the essential oils one at a time. Next, add the crystal and the holly leaf. If you used basil leaves instead of oil, add those now. Close up the bottle with the lid, place your fingers over the lid, and carefully shake up the mixture. Hold up the mixture to the sunlight, and allow the light of Tuesday’s sun to illuminate the philter within.

Wipe off the outside of the bottle. Use the label to list the ingredients and the use of this potion. Decorate the bottle by drawing protective symbols on the label or whatever ever else you think would add to the magick. Attach the label to the glass bottle and finish up by threading the metal charm onto the ribbon and then tying the red or black ribbon around the neck of the bottle.

As you finish tying on the bow, hold the bottle in your hands and concentrate on the visualization that your aura is pulsing a deep red, filled with vitality, courage and protection. See it in your mind’s eye and feel it all over your body. Now send all that energy straight into the bottle you hold in your hands. Take a deep breath, hold it for three counts, and then blow it out slowly. Now, repeat the charm below:

Tap into a warrior’s energy and you will go far

Red and black are the Martian hues of power

My spell begins in this enchanted hour

This Tuesday philter will add valor galore

I am courageous and strong forever more!

Set aside the bottle, and ground and center yourself. Clean up the supplies, then go for a quick walk and firmly reconnect yourself back to the earthly plane. Make sure to store the philter in a dark, dry place and out of the reach of young children.

Egyptian: Anubis Ceremony

Midsummer Eve (old calendar) ~ This is a traditional day for a man and a woman to make their relationship official. It was also a night for bonfires throughout the ancient world, and still to this day. In Ireland there were celebrations for the Faery Goddess Aine, who inspired lots of good things. At night by torchlight, the peasantry would invoke Aine and run through the fields and cattle to purify them of evil in hopes for a good harvest. Other areas have their own celebrations of Earth Mothers.

Britain: Traditional Midsummer. Although Midsummer is celebrated by most Pagans worldwide on the eve and day of the actual Solstice, Britain traditionally celebrates on June 23rd. In the North it is the time of the midnight sun.

In parts of Ireland and Great Britain, Pagans celebrate an annual festival on this date called the Day of Cu Chulainn. It is dedicated to the legendary Irish folk hero of the same name and to the ancient Pagan fertility god known as the Green Man.

Asatru: Sommerblot. The Midsummer Festival is a century-old tradition in Scandinavia, celebrating the earth, summer, and the longest day of sunlight – the Summer Solstice.

Saint John’s Eve. This night is a traditional time for Witches to gather herbs for spells and love potions, for it is believed that the magickal properties of plants are at their peak on this mystical night.

Make yourself comfortable, close your eyes and focus on your breathing….deep breaths in and out….Visualize the real world disappearing.

As your world dissipates you find yourself at the foot of a hill, the grass is green beneath your feet and you can feel a gentle breeze on your face.

The lush grass is scattered with white daisies and you can smell their fresh scent in the air.

A small narrow track leads up the side of the hill in front of you, twisting and turning, spiralling its way up to the top, so you decide to follow it.

As you walk, following the path round and up with each step, release any stresses and worries that you are carrying with you….

Look out across the scenery, what do you see? What sounds can you hear?

Look out for any wildlife along the way.

Take deep breaths of cleansing, refreshing air as you walk. Walk on, continuing to ascend the path, heading always upward.

When you reach the top of the hill you lay down on the grass, lying on your back and looking up at the sky. Watch the white, wispy clouds as they float pass in the bright blue sky. What shapes do you see?

In the distance you see a darker cloud and realize that in the opposite valley there is a light rain shower, but the sun is still shining on your hilltop. After a short while a beautiful rainbow appears.

As you lie on the hilltops, allow yourself to draw renewing, invigorating energy from the rainbow, it is a gift from Mother Nature and she is happy to share it. Take as much as you need.

When you are ready, stand up and take a long look around at the landscape.

Then start to make your way back down the hillside, slowly following the pathway as it spirals down until you reach the foot of the hill.

Give thanks to Mother Nature and come back to this reality. Stamp your feet and wriggle your fingers.

A god, goddess or planet governs each day of the week. It is usually easy to spot the ruled of the day by its name. The word Tuesday, however, is not so easy, but if we look at the word in Spanish, Martes, we clearly see it connections to Mars.

On Tuesdays the hour of sunrise and every eight hours after that are also ruled by Mars, and that makes these times of the day doubly blessed. The four hours are the strongest one to do ritual in. Check your local newspaper, astrological calendar or almanac to determine your local sunrise.
