What has traditionally been known as the World card points to the presiding intelligence, called “Sophia,” or Wisdom, which upholds life on this and all worlds. A more precise title for this card might be “the Soul of the World,” also applicable as a symbol of personal empowerment and freedom. In most Tarot decks it is a female figure that has become our standard World image. She originates in Hebrew, Gnostic and Alchemical lore, and stands between heaven and earth as the Cosmic Mother of Souls, the Wife of God and our protector from the karmic forces we have set loose upon the Earth in our immaturity and ignorance.

Where the Empress energy secures and fertilizes our terrestrial lives, the goddess of The World invites us into cosmic citizenship — once we come to realize our soul’s potential for it. Just as the Chariot stands for success in achieving a separate Self, and Temperance represents achievement of mental and moral health, the World card announces the awakening of the soul’s Immortal Being, accomplished without the necessity of dying.

This card, like the Sun, is reputed to have no negative meaning no matter where or how it appears. If the Hermetic axiom is “Know Thyself”, this image represents what becomes known when the true nature of Self is followed to creative freedom and its ultimate realization.

Explanation: That bright, ruddy star you’ve recently noticed rising just after sunset isn’t a star at all. That’s Mars, the Red Planet. Mars is now near its 2014 opposition (April 8) and closest approach (April 14), looping through the constellation Virgo opposite the Sun in planet Earth’s sky. Clearly outshining bluish Spica, alpha star of Virgo, Mars is centered in this labeled skyview from early April, that includes two other solar system worlds approaching their opposition. On the left, small and faint asteroid Vesta and dwarf planet Ceres are seen near star Tau Virginis. But you’ll just have to imagine NASA’s Dawn spacecraft cruising between the small worlds. Having left Vesta in September of 2012, Dawn’s ion engine has been steadily driving it to match orbits with Ceres, scheduled to arrive there in February 2015. Of course, you can also look near Mars for the Moon opposite the Sun in Earth’s sky on the night of April 14/15 … and see a total lunar eclipse.

Items you will need:

Candle
Candleholder
Small Mirror
A photo of your tormentor (if available)
Matches
 

The Spell

1. Place the candle in its holder and set it on top of the photo at one end of a table. If you can’t obtain a photo, inscribe your enemy’s name on the candle—the ca ndle represents the person who’s causing you trouble.

2. Light the candle, then seat yourself at the other end of the table.

3. Hold the mirror so that it reflects the flame and say aloud:

 

“Behold, this mirror is my shield.
Your wicked ways will be revealed.
Any evil that you do
Will instantly turn back to you.”
 

4. Imagine the mirror deflecting harm away from you and back onto the other person.

5. When you’ve finished, snuff out the candle.

6. Hand the mirror on the outside of the door to your home or office to ward off unwanted energies.

Magick is all in the mind. Before something can materialize in the physical world, somebody first has to imagine it. An architect envisions a house before it can be built. You do the same thing when you perform magick—you create a mental image of the result you intend to produce then fuel it with your will and emotions. Of course, to build a house you need hammer, mails and other tools. In magick, spells are the tools you use to fabricate your wishes. Underlying all magick is a simple physics principle. Every action produces a reaction. Remember that old computer axiom, garbage in, garbage out? Magick is like that, too. If you put bad thoughts and feelings in you’ll get bad stuff out. And be careful what you ask for.

Affirmations – Should Witches Use Them?

An affirmation is a simple, positive “I am……” statement such as “I am a compassionate being of light,” that boosts self-esteem and creates a stronger sense of self. By reminding us of our intrinsic value, it counters the negative message we often give ourselves. Create a personal affirmation that includes qualities that you readily recognize within yourself, as well as those you hope to find in the future. Meditate on your affirmation by repeating it to yourself like a mantra a hundred times each day. As you do so imagine the words boring down into your unconscious like a drill. Watch the negative beliefs emerge like saw-dust from the borehole as they are replaced by the positive beliefs of your affirmations.

So is affirmations a good thing for witches, in my book “yes.”

‘THINK on THESE THINGS’

At times, Americans seem too easily taken, too docile to political movements, and too indifferent to their own responsibilities as a free people. How easy it is to turn our heads and tell ourselves that there are intelligent people in high authority looking after our interests and that they will never let our freedom be lost. This kind of thinking is a fallacy. America still belongs to the people, and it is up to is to tell our representatives in Washington that we want it kept that way.

We are too easily led to believe that we deserve a way of life that appears free and easy. But seemingly free handouts will eventually take away our freedom unless we decide to personally do something about it.

Americans are known for their ability to start with a little ingenuity and a lot of faith to build powerful financial empires. But in great and small there beats a heart of devotion to God and country. In battle, no one could display more bravery, more determination, or more loyalty than these defenders of America. In the face of seeming defeat, young Americans have stood together and fought courageously.

Now, people of all ages must stand together. We must make our views known to the government. We must continually develop within ourselves moral, physical, and spiritual strength; and we must pray to God – without that faith, all is lost.
