Current Moon Phase for Nov. 1 ~ Full Moon (Waning Gibbous)

Full Moon

(waning/93% of Full)

A veil of self-absorption is lifted and suddenly you gain access to an unbiased view of others. This is a rare moment when you can see yourself objectively and become aware of whether or not what you want in your heart is actually beginning to manifest in your life. Traditionally, the Full Moon phase stirs emotion, and this is because when you “see” what is happening, you may become upset if you’re experiencing the “same ole, same ole” — rather than the things you would like. If the Full Moon phase is a disappointment, on the next New Moon it’s time to take creative action in the direction of your dreams.

LUNAR PHASES AND MAGICKAL WORK

LUNAR PHASES AND MAGICKAL WORK

Moon Myths
When people lived with Nature, the changing seasons had a great impact on religious    ceremonies. The Moon was seen as a symbol of the Goddess. Because of this, the light of the Moon was considered magical, and a source of energy. Wiccans    often practice magic at a Full Moon to tap into this energy thought to exist at this time. Plutarch once said “Egyptian priests called the Moon the    “Mother of the Universe,” because the moon, “having the light which makes moist and pregnant, is promotive of the generation of living    beings..” The Gnostic sect of Naassians believed in a primordial being known a “the heavenly horn of the moon.” The Moon was the Great Mother. Menos meant “Moon” and “power” to the Greeks. To the Romans, the morality of the Moon Goddess was above that of the Sun God. In many cultures the Moon Goddess and the Creatress were the same. Polynesians called the Creatress Hina, “Moon.” She was the first woman, and every    woman is a wahine, made in the image of Hina. Scandinavians sometimes called the Creatress Mardoll, “Moon Shining Over the Sea. Ashanti people had a    generic term used for all their deities, Boshun, meaning Moon. Sioux Native Americans call the moon The Old Woman Who Never Dies. Iroquois call her    “Eternal One.” Rulers in the Eritrean zone of South Africa held the Goddesses name “Moon.” The Gaelic name of the Moon, gealach, came    form Gala or Galata, the original Moon-Mother of Gaelic and Gaulish tribes. Britain used to be called Albion, the milk-white Moon-Goddess. The Moon was    called Metra, which means Mother , “whose love penetrated everywhere.” In the Basque language, the words for deity and moon are the same. The    root word for both “moon” and “mind” was the Indo-European manas, mana, or men, representing the Great Mother’s “wise    blood” in women, governed by the Moon. The derivative mania used to mean ecstatic revelation, like lunacy used to mean possession by spirit of Luna, the Moon.
To be Moon-Touched or Moon-Struck meant to be chosen by the Goddess. When patriarchal thinkers belittled the Goddess, these words came to mean    craziness. Orphic and Pythagorean sect viewed the Moon as the home of the dead, a female gate known as Yoni. Souls passed through on the way to the    paradise fields of the stars. Greeks often located the Elysian Fields, home of the blessed dead, in the moon. The shoes of Toman senators were decorated    with ivory crescents to show that after death they would inhabit the Moon. Roman religion taught that “the souls of the just are purified in the Moon.” Wearing the crescent was “visual worship” of the Goddess. That was why the prophet Isaiah denounced the women of Zion for wearing    lunar amulets. Because the moon was the holder of souls between reincarnations, it sheltered both the dead and unborn, who were one in the same. If a man    dreams of his own image in the Moon, he would become the father of a son. If a woman dreamed of her own image in the Moon, she would have a daughter. The    Moon Goddess created time, with all its cycles of creation, growth, decline, and destruction. This is why ancient calendars were based on phases of the    moon and menstrual cycles. The Moon still determines agricultural work in some parts of India. Indonesian moon priestesses were responsible for finding the    right phase of the moon for every undertaking. The Moon was to have been the receptacle of menstrual blood by which each mother forme the life of her    child. This sacer, taboo moon-fluid kept even the Gods alive. The moon was “the cup of the fluid of life immortal, quickening the vegetable realm and    whatsoever grows in the sub-lunar sphere, quickening also the immortals on high.” The Moon was supposed to rule life and death as well as the tides. People living on the shores were convinced that a baby could only be born on an incoming tide and a person could not die until the tide went out. It was often said birth at a full tide or a full moon means a lucky life. Girls in Scotland refused to wed on anything but a Full Moon. Witches invoked their    Goddess by “drawing down the Moon.” It is said to be a rite dating back to moon worship in Thessaly, centuries before the Christian era.
Esbats
Lunar holidays are also known as Esbats, but any Wiccan ritual held at any time other than a Sabbat is an Esbat. Due to the rotation of the earth, the Wiccan calendar contains 13 Full Moons and 8 Sabbats, also known as Days of Power. A full moon happens every 28 1/4 days. Full Moon energy is used for banishing unwanted influences, protection and divination. A Full Moon is also a good time for planning, releasing and working backwards in time. Full Moon Magic can be done for seven days, three days before the full moon and three days after the full moon.
There are thirteen Full Moons. Each has a traditional name.
Wolf Moon January
Storm Moon February
Chaste Moon March
Seed Moon April
Hare Moon May
Dyad Moon June
Mead Moon July
Wyrt Moon August
Barley Moon
September Blood Moon

The New Moon is used for personal growth, healing, the blessing of a new project etc. Between the New Moon and Full Moon is the phase called Waxing Moon. Magic for this phase includes attraction magic, increasing, growth, and gain. Between the Full Moon and New Moon is the phase called the Waning Moon. Magic for this phase includes banishing magic, such a loosing negative emotions, bad habits etc. Three days before the New Moon is known as the Dark Moon, as it is not visible in the sky. Traditionally, no magic is performed    at this time. It is a time for rest.

(waning /83% illumination)

This is a tremendous time of transmutation. All of the prior elements are coming together for a final burst of creative output. You have seen a clear view of your own needs and the posture of significant others. Now the accumulation of that input is leading to a deep, core change within you. In this phase, you will naturally be inclined to seek higher guidance so that you can emerge from this transformation successfully. The Disseminting Moon favors sharing what you have learned (and are learning) with others.

Basic Spell Construction

BASIC SPELL CONSTRUCTION

Write your own spells

Because of the very nature of Magick, each working should be highly

individualised and personal. Even if following a traditional spell,

it should be tailored to your specific needs to be most effective

for you. Understanding the basics of Spell Construction will enable

you to formulate your own specific, effective spells for any purpose

you desire.

Preliminary planning is necessary. The very first step is to decide

precisely what your desired end result is to be. Before you can

start, you must decide where you are going. You must be very

explicit.

Flowing with these currents will make your magickal work much easier.

Remember to plan your project for a time of uninterrupted privacy.

It is important that you have no distractions. Generally speaking,

it is best to work as late at night as possible. A time when there

is less frantic energy is most appropriate. You might consider

Midnight or later.

In choosing a place to do your magickal working pay particular

attention to your needs, for you must be comfortable. Your place

should be private, quiet and secure. If at all possible, set aside

a special place for this purpose only. An unused room, a special

Scorner of your bedroom, a quiet, secluded spot in your garden. A

place that is yours. A place that you can come to whenever need

arises and that is as free from intrusion of others as possible.

Prior to the night of your magickal working, gather together the

things that you will need. All of the things used are tools. They

have no inherent magick. They are to help you create a mood. If

correctly made and used, they will trigger primitive responses from

deep within you. They should be chosen with care.

Consider the purpose of your ritual and choose your tools

accordingly. If your magick is to be sexual, your candles, oils,

incenses and so forth, should bring forth a sexual response. If the

desired result of your Magick is Tranquillity, then the tools should

make you feel calm, peaceful and serene. Any candles you might use

should not have commercially added fragrances as these may not be

appropriate for your working.

Prior to your ritual, prepare yourself and your equipment by any

means necessary to clean and purify. Historically, people have

fasted, followed meticulous and detailed bathing practices,

practised chastity and used many other methods.

Most often a Ritual Bath is the preferred method. A bath frequently

utilising candlelight, fragrant herbs, bath salts or sensuous oils.

A sumptuous hot bath, special bathing preparations and appropriate

lighting, combined, can create the soothing effect which will help

in the very important step of relaxing and clearing the mind completely

of all mundane thoughts and experiences of the day. Your ritual

Bath should, also, begin to set the specific vibrations conducive to

your purpose into motion. You must not only cleanse and purify but

must, also, begin to create the type of energy necessary.

Once your purification process has been accomplished, you are now

ready to begin. Proceed to the special place you have previously

chosen in which to perform your magick. If at all possible, you

should make use of the primitive responses set into motion by a well

chosen piece of music. Your music should start slowly and build to

a rousing climax.

As you use your oils, light your candle or incense (or utilise any

other tool you have chosen), you should begin to further intensify

the energy that you have set into motion around you. A high degree

of intensity is vitally important.

The Altered State of Consciousness that you must reach is not a

meditative state. Anything that interferes with your ability to

concentrate upon, reach and control the high energy state necessary

to perform magick should be avoided. Such as, screaming children, a

sink full of dirty dishes, use of alcohol or drugs, etc.

Do not scatter your energy by attempting to do more than one

magickal working at a time.

Remember that Magick is the manipulation of energy, a thought is a

form of energy and a visualisation is an even stronger form of

energy. Your visualisation can be a method used to intensify

further and direct your will. Your visualisation can be the method

by which you control the magickal energy you have produced.

You must know what you want. You must see it. You must feel the

high energy flow. You must direct it.

One of the most important elements in the practice of any form of

Magick is the Universal Law of Cause and Effect. This means that

whatever you do (or don’t do) you cause something to happen.

The most important consideration is the Universal Law of

Retribution. This means that no matter what you do it comes back to

you in like kind.

It is the nature of things that as you send something out it gains

momentum, so that, by the time it comes back to you, it is three

times stronger. If you do something nice for someone, someone will

do something nicer for you.

It is important, also, that you choose your time carefully. You

should take into consideration all Astrological implications, energy

currents and Moon phases.

The Moon is the astronomical body closest to us and, therefore, has

a profound influence upon us, it is very important to choose a time

when the Moon is in an astrological sign which is appropriate for

your working. For example: Aries/Action – Enthusiasm, Taurus/

Renewal – Sensuality, Gemini/Communication – Curiosity, Cancer/

Emotion – Nurturing, Leo/Vitality – Determined, Virgo/Organizing –

Studious, Libra/Balance – Co-operation, Scorpio/Sexual –

Philosophical, Capricorn/Authority – Ambitious, Aquarius/Innovation

– Social, Pisces/Sensitivity – Idealistic.

Bear in mind that magickal workings for gain, increase or bringing

things to you, should be initiated when the Moon is Waxing (from

Dark to Full); when the Moon is Waning (from Full to Dark), it is

time for magickal workings of decrease or sending away.

The highest energy occurs at the Full Moon and, therefore, this is

the most powerful time for magickal workings. The New Moon is the

next most powerful time for Magick.

Whenever possible, follow Nature’s natural Energy Currents. There

is a natural time for starting things (a planting time), for

maturing things (a growing time), for reaping things ( a harvest

time) and, of course, a time for rest and planning.

Draw Down The Moon

Draw Down The Moon

Items You Will Need:

  • Full Moon
  • 4 tea lite candles for each element
  • 1 Mirror

The Spell:

Start by lighting the four candles and placing them at each direction (North, South, East, West) and cast a circle.
Sit between the candles, facing the moon. Meditate on the moon for a couple minutes, just let her light fill you up.

Hold the mirror on your lap, catching the Moon’s reflection and point it so it bounces off the moon and points to you. Let it absorb into your skin and your mind and your soul. Once you feel powerful, begin to chant as many times as you wish:

“Mother of the moon
the past and the soon
The light of the night
Come to me tonight.”

This spell is simple. Cast it during the Full Moon and you will be amazed at how aware your senses become.

Moon Power

Moon Power

This spell can be performed indoors as well as outside. It is representational since you use a paper moon or flower. In the incantation the Moon is represented as a white swan. This should be done at the time of the Full Moon and is designed to bring the energy of the Moon within your grasp until the next Full Moon.

Items You Will Need:

A bowl of water White paper moon or flower

The Spell:

  • Float the paper moon or flower in the bowl.
  •   Raise the bowl towards the Moon in the sky and say:
  •   Hail to thee white swan on the river.
  •   Present life, tide turner,
  •   Moving through the streams of life, all hail.

“Mother of old and new days,   To you, through you,   this night we cling to your aura.   Pure reflection, total in belief,   touched by your presence,   I am in your power and wisdom.   Praise your power, your peace,   my power, my peace.   I am strong. I praise. I bless. “

  •   Replace the bowl on your altar. Stand for a few moments appreciating the power of the Moon. This spell is purely an incantation to the Moon and is therefore very simple. It needs no other tools or techniques except a physical representation of the Moon. Water is sacred to the Moon and therefore we offer her that which belongs to her.
