The Witches Magickal Journal for Thursday, August 2nd

Today is Thursday, August 2nd

Thursday is the day of the planet Jupiter, dedicated to Thunor(Thor), God of thunder and agricultural work. His parallels in various European traditions are Zeus, Taranis, Perun, Perkunas and St. Olaf. The faith of the Northern Tradition holds Thursday sacred, just as Islam reveres Friday, Judaism the Sabbath(calculated from sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday), and Christianity, Sunday. This is why almost all adages about Thursday are positve, such as “Thursday’s child has far to go,” “Sneeze on Thursday, something better,” or “Cut nails on Thursday for wealth.” Thursday rules controlled optimism, energetic growth, physical well-being and material success.

The Pagan Book of Days for Thursday, August 2nd

The anniversary of the death of the second Norman king of England, William II Rufus, killed by an archer in the New Forest in 1100. Many Pagans believe that he, along with other “sacred” kings who died violently on days close to the cross-quarter days, such as Olaf of Norway, were victims of the tradition of sacrificial kingship.

Thursday: When the hammer is smashing up the skies

And we have just arrived to Thursday, named after Thor, the Norse god of thunder. He travels through the heavens in a charriot, wearing a special belt and iron gloves which give him extra strength to lift his giant hammer.

Romance languages based their fifth day’s name upon the Latin Dies Iovis, meaning the Day of Jupiter (jueves in Spanish, jeudi in French, giovedi in Italian). Jupiter was a chief Roman god, the god of laws and social order. His attribute was a thunderbolt.

The Magickal Day of Thursday

Thursday is a day of royal blues and greens, associated with the planet Jupiter and metals like tin. When it comes to deities, look at leader type gods like Thor, Zeus, and Jupiter. Gemstone correspondences for Thursday include turquoise, amethyst and lapis lazuli, and plant associations can be found in honeysuckle, cinquefoil, and even oak trees.

This is a day for honor, fealty and family loyalty, as well as harvesting, success, and prosperity. Take advantage of Thursday’s different aspects and do spellwork that brings abundance to you, declares your allegiance, and embraces prosperity.

The Witches Guide to Thursdays

Today is the day for prosperity work of all kinds. It can also be used for healing work, whether that is a physical healing of an illness or an emotional healing. Also remember that you have to follow up your healing work and prosperity magick and physical action.

I can’t tell you the number of times I have met new witches who complain to me that their prosperity spell or “I need a better job” spell did not work as they expected. They’ll ramble on and on about how much time and money they spent working their magick….but, alas, they had no glorious manifestation of wealth or fabulous job that suddenly dropped out of the sky and landed in their laps.

Then, when I gently ask them, “Did you enchant your resume or application when you filled it out? Did you do a little confidence-boosting spellwork when you went to apply for the job or went to the interview?” typically they give me a blank, confused stare.

Nine times out of ten, their response is, “You mean I have to go out and actually look for the job too?” Um, yes, my dear, you certainly do. Magick follows the path of least resistance, which means it’s going to manifest along the simplest, quickest route. Get out there and hit the pavement. See what you can find. Times are tough and competition for good jobs is fierce, so you need whatever edge you can get. For folks like us, we’re going to get the edge by using our magick and our spellcraft.

Thursdays have such a rich source of magick for us to draw upon that, honestly, the sky is the limit. This is the day associated with the gods of the sky and heavens, after all. Get to know these deities and add their wisdom and magick into your days

The Witches Honey-Do List for Thursdays

Try wearing some honeysuckle-scented perfume to encourage prosperity. Bewitch someone by wearing deep royal blue or brighten up a dreary day by wearing lucky, prosperity-drawing green. Brew up a pot of mint tea to help increase your cash flow. Try adding a pinch of nutmeg or cinnamon to an unscented candle to encourage some fast cash. Bake up a loaf of wheat bread for the family, and celebrate abundance and be thankful for all that you have.

Conjure up a witchy craft and create a philter or two for your magickal needs. Work with the deities and the magickal plants corresponding with Thursday.

How did the energies of the plants of Jupiter enhance your magick? What did you learn by working with Juno, Jove, or Zeus? The truth is that by adding these new techniques and information into your spellcasting repertoire, you will indeed advance your skills, thereby moving up in the ranks to become a more adept magickal practitioner

Just by believing in yourself and working toward creating abundance, health, and prosperity, you have already begun to transform your outlook on life. Put your game face on; think positively. Work with Thor for perseverance and courage, and apply those qualities to your own prosperity spells and healing witchery. Break out the tarot cards; How could you incorporate that symbolism into other spells of your own design?

Use your imagination, check Thursday’s correspondence list, and see what other bewitching things you can conjure up for prosperity magick all by yourself. Call on the gods and goddess of Thursday and bring some positive change, abundance, health, and prosperity into your life!

Waning Moon

Moon phase: Third Quarter

Moon Sign: Aries

Incense: Myrrh

Color: Turquoise

About the Waning Moon

When the Moon is no longer full, but it hasn’t reached a quarter moon – i.e. when it’s half illuminated from our perspective – we say that it’s a Waning Gibbous Moon. This is the exact reverse of a Waxing Gibbous Moon, when the Moon is increasing in brightness from a New Moon to a Full Moon.

This is followed by a Third Quarter (or last quarter) Moon. During this period, 50% of the Moon’s disc will be illuminated (left side in the northern hemisphere, and the right in the southern), which is the opposite of how it would appear during a First Quarter. These phases are often referred to as a “Half Moon”, since half the disc is illuminated at the time.

Finally, a Waning Crescent is when the Moon appears as a sliver in the night sky, where between 49–1% of one side is illuminated after a Full Moon (again, left in the northern hemisphere, right in the southern). This is the opposite of a Waxing Crescent, when 1-49% of the other wide is illuminated before it reaches a Full Moon.

Even today, thousands of years later, human beings still look up at the Moon and are inspired by what they see. Not only have we explored Earth’s only satellite with robotic missions, but even crewed missions have been there and taken samples directly from the surface. And yet, it still possesses enough mystery to keep us inspired and guessing.

Thursday Is Ruled By Jupiter

Thursday is a Jupiter day. Here is the day of the week for prosperity, abundance, and good health. Thursday is “Thor’s day.” This Norse god gave the day his name and many of his attributes, including strength and abundance. Some suggestions for Thursday enchantments would include: Wearing a regal and royal shade of blue to see how it affects your mood and your magic. Other colors for the day include purple and green

Carrying a turquoise tumbled stone in your pocket to draw a little protective and healing energy your way

Incorporating honeysuckle blossoms and cinquefoil foliage into prosperity charms

Calling on Thor for abundance, or on the Roman god Jupiter for the ability to peacefully referee a fight

Adding a few oak leaves—which are sacred to these Thursday gods—to your charms to see how much better your spell works out

The Witches Magick for Thursday, August 2nd – Spell to Break a Binding Spell

Some binding spells can cause physical manifestations. You feel as if invisible strands of hair or thin strings are wrapped around you. You can’t see them but you can feel them and nothing you do can make that sensation stop. Here is a way to dispel a binding.

Cut a bit of your own hair and set it in a small bowl.

Light 3 candles, 1 red, 1 white and 1 green.

In a fire safe bowl or incense brazier, light a piece of charcoal and add some myrrh, patchouli and sandalwood incense (powdered kind not cone or stick)

Take a sterile needle or pin and prick your right index finger. Squeeze three drops of blood into the smoldering incense.
As you drop the hair onto the lit incense repeat these words:

With blood, candle and scent times three
No longer shall this binding be
Free to live and free to soar
Let me leave the house once more.
As I burn this hair, a part of me
Let my heart and soul be free!
And for those who doth cast despair
Binding me with sightless hair
I send to them this well-earned curse
Let their evil spell reverse!
Teach them mercy and love’s sweet gift
Once learned, this simple spell shall lift.
As is my will, so mote it be!

Let the incense burn out and scatter the ashes outside.

Lifting the binding spell should take care of the problem. Keep an eye on those around you. Someone who wished you ill will start to experience the torment they put you through. Once they understand that what they did was wrong, then the sensation will fade and they will be back to normal.

Spirit Message of the Day – As Above, So Below

Today’s Insight comes from A Traveler’s Guide to The Well Worn Path by Raven Grimassi and Stephanie Taylor.

As Above, So Below

“This concept has to do with mirroring. What has shown up in your life is a reflection of your beliefs, thoughts, words, and deeds. The concept of mirroring speaks directly about reflections that arive from cause and effect. Look at the cycles and patterns in your life, and see them as mirrors of your connection to the higher realms. It is time to look clearly at your life (beginning from within). By bringing any distortion into focus more clearly you can better understand your perception of the things around you.”

A Foundational Teaching

“There is an old saying that what people see as tragedy the gods see merely as divine play. Sometimes we feel that we are being subjected to unfairness, injustice, and victimization. At the time itis difficult for us to see that these feelings are our misunderstanding of the energy coming into our lives that is intended to help with our spiritual evolution. Therefore, what we perceive as reality is actually our distorted view of something clouded by our emotions, and is therefore beyond our immediate discernment.”

New witch Kate“That which is above is as that which is below. That which is within, is as that which is without.”

“This means that the material plane and the nonmaterial plane of existence reflect one another according to the nature of their energy. The material realm is like looking through frosted glass at what appears to be distorted on the other side. The image there appears to us like a pattern instead of the true form. Therefore we see only that which is suggestive of the reality beyond our full comprehension.”

Truly, the world above reflects the world below. The life we’re living today is past, present, and future at the same time. There is an interconnection between other worlds and ours. Reflect today upon what living within means to you in accordance to the laws of nature and spirit. It becomes obvious that the life we’re living, the words we’re talking, and the actions we are doing – becomes that which who we are – the inside and outside are indeed connected. The life you choose to live becomes the energy you radiate.

Old Lammas Eve, Festival of Lights, St. Clair

In some areas of England, Old Lammas Eve is the date for fairs and “handfast marriages” —trial unions in which either party is free to end after a year without the social stigma of divorce. It was also around this time that the crop fields were thrown open for Winter grazing.

The ancient Egyptian festival in honor of the Goddess Isis and her search for Osiris is commemorated on this day by a Festival of Lights. With the advent of Christianity, this day became the feast of Saint Clair.

I Am A Witch

When I stand up for myself and my beliefs, they call me a “Witch”.
When I stand up for those I love, they call me a Witch.
When I speak my mind, think my own thoughts, or do things my own way, they call me a Witch.
Being a witch entails raising my children to be strong people
Who have a solid sense of personal and social responsibility
Who are not afraid to stand up for what they believe in
Who love and respect themselves for the beautiful beings they are.
Being a witch means that I am free to be the wonderful creature I am,
With all my own intricacies, contradictions, quirks and beauty.
Being a witch means I won’t compromise what’s in my heart.
It means I live my life MY way. It means I won’t allow anyone to step on me.
When I refuse to tolerate injustice and speak up against it, I am defined as a witch.
The same thing happens when I take time for myself instead of being everyone else’s maid or when I act a little selfish.
I am proud to be a witch! It means I have the courage and strength to allow myself to be who I truly am and won’t become anyone else’s idea of what they think I “should” be.
I am outspoken, opinionated and determined.
By Goddess, I want what I want and there is nothing wrong with that!
So, try to stomp on me, try to douse my inner flame, try to squash every ounce of beauty I hold within me. You won’t succeed.
And if that makes me a witch, so be it. I embrace the title and am proud to bear it. I love this, I can call myself a witch now and not feel bad about it!

SO MOTE IT BE!
