Two Faced Janus

The month of January derives its name from that of the Roman god Janus, the god of beginnings whose name is in turn linked with the latin word ianua, “a door.” As the deity who presided over doorways and gateways, Janus was envisaged as having two heads, one facing forward and the other looking backward, with which to observe any coming and goings: one of his names was therefore Janus Bifrons, or “Two-headed Janus.” January is the month in which we similarly look back at the old year, while looking forward to the year to come.

The Power of Two

Absorb the power of two on this second day of the month of two-headed Janus. This number can represent the two sexes and duality, but also balance. If you want to formalize a loving partnership with someone this year, you could string two ringson a necklace and wear them close to your heart.
