A Daily Ritual for Greeting the Moon

13. WB Tierfreund-GruppeA Daily Ritual for Greeting the Moon

The best way to develop your own personal relationship with the Moon is to interact with it directly, every day. Try integrating this brief ritual into your daily life for the entirety of one lunar cycle.

This is especially useful for those who are just starting to get acquainted with Moon magic, Wicca, or any other Nature-based spiritual path. It can take as little as two minutes, or longer if you like, depending on when you’re able to work it into your schedule from day to day.

You will need to know when to expect the Moon to be visible in your area in order to plan. This information can easily be found online, and you can also refer to the rising and setting times chart.

For best results, stand outside under the Moon and gaze directly at it. If this isn’t possible, look at it through a window.

Truly look at it. See if you notice any new details about its exact shape, its shadowy features, and its changing image as it disappears behind passing clouds, then reemerges.

Even if it’s raining, you can still get a general sense of where the Moon is in the sky, so aim your focus there. If the Moon simply isn’t in the sky at any point when you’re awake, close your eyes and visualize it—as it appears in its current phase— as clearly as you can.

Spend some time silently communing with the lunar energy and when you feel ready, say the following words (or compose your own). If you’re unable to do the ritual in private, you can say them silently.

“Today/ tonight I greet you, Moon, with joy.
Thank you for your divine light, your Goddess energy, your sacred power.
I open myself to your mysteries and welcome your eternal wisdom.
So let it be.”
