Valerian Root for Anxiety
Valerian root is one of the best herbs for dealing with severe anxiety. If you cannot sleep because traumatic events keep playing out in the form of nightmares or if you are afraid to fall asleep because of nightmares, this root can help.
Make a powerful decoction of the freshest Valerian root you can find. Mexican grocery stores are a good source, but any herb shop that carries dried herbs is likely to have some on hand.
Put two teaspoons of ground root or a large, single piece of root into boiling water. Add two teaspoons of dried lemon grass. Let it cook down for four to five minutes. If you’re using one of the large roots, you can put it aside and let it air dry. You can use it twice in a decoction before it begins to lose its power.
Let the this brew cool for a few minutes. Then, strain the liquid into a cup. Add sugar or honey to taste, if you like. Drink this before bed time. It will help you a little on the first night. But, when you do it the second night, you will have a good sleep and feel very relaxed.
Always heed all cautions with regard to herbs and use only as directed. And, as always, if you take pharmaceutical drugs or are under the care of a physician, you should seek his or her advice.
Once you are sufficiently calm, again, and able to focus, try using self-hypnosis by making your own recordings. This can help you to regain control over certain aspects of your life, again. It is simply a way of talking to your subconscious mind, re-programming it however you want it to be, using your own voice in a recording. You can, also, use pre-recorded hypnosis tapes.
