In General ~ the Mercury Retro thru GEMINI suggests great support for pulling back where/when possible to really process the last 3-6 months. Mars & Venus are active throughout this time, though in very different ways. Mars will engage Saturn, Neptune & Chiron in the Mutable Signs of Gemini/Sag and Pisces, which suggests we have to do Virgo consciously to balance things out. Also, it means there is a lot of mental/emotional *processing* going on that needs grounding in the body to get the most/best out of the recent revelations.

Venus will engage the Nodes, Uranus & Pluto in the Cardinal Signs of Aries/Libra/Cancer/Capricorn. Venus in Cancer values protection, personal security & nourishment. This makes the social/collective activations very personal, so there are a lot of choices & decisions on the table that should be run through the *feeling* filter first (gut response). The choices/decisions innately right for you, will feel right fairly immediately & the retrograde will allow you to pause & cultivate a positive, effective response (for later).

With the above Mars/Venus activations in mind for the first part of Mercury’s process, it would be prudent to know the Air Houses in your chart as they will be most affected this year and remember this is a 5-year process, so the last time Mercury did this was 2008: can you see any correlations to the current shifts in your thinking, consciousness and/or self-expression? Any correlations to your choices & decisions, then & now? in your relationships (public & private), then & now? Try not to work outward, engaging others just yet (ie, letters, conversations, worldly communications) but rather, use this time to inwardly review your own thoughts, ideas, concepts & perceptions of your Self & your world, make the inner connections, then consider the Story your life tells & edit.

SAG Full Moon (6/2) / GEMINI New Moon (6/16) ~ This lunation is continuing the work of various 2012Initiations. Think of this as the First Test of all that you birthed within and around you during the crossover of 2010-2013. What were you doing? Learning? Teaching? Healing? Remembering? And who were you doing it with? Who is still around and who cleared space for the people you have now? This is the final transformational piece of the *3 High Moons of Spring*: what have you learned in the last 3-6mos about who you are & what you want? and how you do feel vs how you want to feel? This Gemini/Sag lunation is also participating in all of the above with Mercury & Mars in Gemini plus Saturn in Sag, plus Neptune/Chiron in Pisces. It’s really time to make the connection between your thoughts & feelings, as well as all 6-Senses, and begin to practice aligning your desires & actions with your clear insights & gut instincts that guide & protect you throughout your life, you need only fortify the connection on a regular basis.

There is a very specific *party* going on this May/June 2015, one we have every year with Sun + Mercury in Gemini, however, this year Mercury extends its stay and Mars, who can only come every 2-years, is there too, so it is much livelier & more spirited than usual! Said another way, the usual springtime infusion of new ideas & concepts of your Self and your life (that we get every year around Gemini time) has strong additional implications this year, and slightly counter-intuitive ones at that! Mercury Retro says it’s time to pull back and review EVERYTHING and Mars says it’s time to ACT on the ideas that have you fired up and full of clarity & purpose! Ughhh! What to do!?
Energies & Lessons ~ Gemini/Sag/Virgo/Pisces

My first recommendation is to check in with the Weekly Forecast which has details for each planetary interaction, and practical advice for navigating in general. Another thing to consider is the Sign *Energies & Lessons* which, at this time, have to do with what we think & believe, as well as how we express Self & communicate with Other (Gemini/Sag/Pisces). It’s all fairly intangible, having much more to do with feelings, ideas, thoughts, concepts & perceptions until you get to the one missing piece: Virgo, whose lesson is all about honoring natural timing and trusting the body, as well as its (many) *Systems & Processes* that support & protect your physical form. Can you see how what you feel, think & believe affects your health so directly?
Saturn in Sagittarius ~ 2015-2017

All of the above is the personal planets and thus affects those with Gemini/Sag/Virgo/Pisces in their charts, however, Saturn is coming to the Sag-party later this year and it is a social planet, that moves a lot slower (2-3 years in each sign) and affects larger groups of people at the same time. Saturn, the planet of our definitions, physical limitations & 3D/reality, is finishing up Scorpio work (June-Sept) but will re-enter Sag for a solid 2+ year renovation of our belief systems: do they support & protect you or put you in possible danger because they are incongruent with the reality you are currently living? So in addition to the many Initiations going on this Spring, Saturn is going to come in during the Fall to illuminate things from a higher perspective and push you to ground, contain & direct all that you’ve been ‘thinking’, ‘dreaming’ or ‘talking’ about for the last few months-to-the-last 28-years. All this influx of higher frequencies and higher consciousness since 2012 alone, not to mention, alllll the learning we’ve done since 1985-1988, must be rebirthed (redefined) and grounded into a workable belief system that supports & protects you, your body and your consciousness, in the here & now.

Feel the *Liberation* from the Old Story

Your ideas & inspirations (Gemini) are a reflection of what you believe (Sag) to be possible, for you, others or the planet. When you are ready to experience life in a new way, often you need only ‘think’ it (and almost always when you ‘feel’ it) and the molecules start moving to facilitate that physical experience or manifestation. The more conscious awareness you give to directing your thoughts & feelings, trying things in a new way, learning along the way, and developing your own theories about how life really works (for you), then the more effective you become and living your physical reality can be safer & more comfortable, even lighter & brighter! Feel the *Liberation* from the Old Story, the things which are no longer true (if they ever were). Feel that release from any literal or figurative bondage, especially self-imposed mental/emotional prisons. Then, ground in your body and trust the evolved, emerging Truth … and prepare to tell the evolved, emerging Story! Saturn in Sag will help us all ground a Higher Truth and tell a more interesting Story over the next couple of years.

So, that’s Mars (and more Saturn than I had intended ; -)) Now for Venus! who is in Cancer, engaging the Nodes, Uranus & Pluto. This one is affecting my Cardinal Babies the most (Cancer/Capricorn/Aries/Libra). And where Mars may be working on which actions really express your personal Truth & Purpose, at this time, Venus is working on what will feed, support & protect you while you honor the inevitable changes that come during such monumental personal, social & collective shifts (like now). Right now ALL your *Fundamentals* have been affected and a radical realignment of ALL relationships (public & private) is underway. All of them have to be renegotiated & reestablished to support & protect Life! Resistance is optional. Change is mandatory. Choose what means the most to you, deep in your heart-of-hearts, and has endured to support you and begin there … building the NEW Base & Structure of your life, that supports & protects a foundation of Truth & Integrity for you, by your own definition.

Summer Activations ~ Another thing I look at when there is a *convergence* of energies & lessons (activated by planetary alignments) is the first & last of these activations. I can always find a theme emerging that we can follow to be more effective. In this case, the first one is Mercury/Saturn (5/3) and the last one is Sun/Mars (6/14). This gives us a 6-week window that starts with what we think about our current reality, then Mercury retrogrades (5/18 – 6/11) to review all those thoughts, ideas, stories etc, hopefully leading to some clarity & action steps by the Sun/Mars activation (6/14).

May/June supports the processing and making the (many) inner connections; June/July supports making choices & decisions based on self-preservation; July/Aug supports the grounding & protection going forward.

Creative Awakening

The month ahead comes with a fluid and creative underlying energy, gentle yet powerful, bringing to mind deep currents beneath a still surface. It’s time to embrace our creativity whatever that means for us. We don’t have to be Picasso or Beethoven to do this. No ‘talent’ is needed, no standards to be met. Simply allowing ourselves to embrace the beauty of the natural world, the soulful look in an animal’s eyes or the gentle rise and fall of our sleeping child’s chest – all of these things and many more connect us with the creative beauty of the universe which forever demonstrates its awesome wonder even if we remain oblivious, head down, rushing through another day.

In this sense creativity is not something we do but a way of being. In appreciating the many shades of green in the springtime trees, the symmetry of reflection in a shop window, the love that went into a garden we pass, we align ourselves with the power of beauty which awakens the creative spirit. Too often we are led to believe creativity requires talent, gifts and an end product whose worth is affirmed by others. In fact creativity is simply our body doing what it does to keep us alive and our heart reaching out to connect with the world around us. This heart response to moments of beauty is our spirit rising up to be one with them, to claim its place in the creative dance of the universe.

We are invited deeply into that dance this month. With first Ceres (3rd June), then Neptune (12th June) and then Chiron (24th June) turning retrograde, we are turned back upon ourselves to discover the rich well-spring of life, love and creativity that dwells within. This experience is for our benefit only. Whilst we may want to share it with others, there is no obligation to do so! The inner realms are illuminated now, offering up their riches and revealing aspects of our psyche and spirit previously obscured. A willingness to embrace and explore them will reward us with ever deeper appreciation of both the complexity and simplicity of our inner landscape. We may want to draw it out, write our way through it, dance, sing, run or laugh along with our soul. This process is personal, its fruits private, but its consequences will radiate throughout our lives as the reawakened creative spirit gains ever greater influence in the collective consciousness.

The Full Moon in Sagittarius on 2nd June sets the scene for this shift of perspective. Marking the culmination of old habits that keep us stuck in unhealthy patterns of thought, feeling and behaviour, it encourages new responses to familiar situations even when our emotions urge us down the same old track. This Moon offers great support to those who choose to do life differently and step out of familiar ruts. It invites us to take part in one of the most creative acts of all: changing our behaviour. No matter the strength of old and deep-rooted emotion, it invites us to choose a different way and make that choice the first of many which will unleash new possibilities through the embodiment of our creative spirit.

Venus enters Leo on 5th, remaining there until the beginning of October but for two weeks spent in Virgo in July. This lengthy stay occurs on account of Venus turning retrograde next month, which happens about once very twenty months. Venus in Leo is warm and demonstrative, colourful, confident and creative. She provides a wonderful backdrop to the gently creative energy of the month ahead and adds a note of confidence to our expression and appreciation of both ourselves and others. Venus in Leo loves the self reflected back in another’s eyes as much as she loves the other in whom she encounters that reflection. Adoration of self and other are not mutually exclusive for her and only in a relationship which embodies the creative power of self-love can she be truly satisfied. This Venus needs to shine and she needs us to shine along with her, embracing our capacity to re-create ourselves, our lives and our world one magical moment at a time.

When Mercury turns direct on 11th, having been retrograde since 19th May, we have an opportunity to reflect on recent revelations about relationships. It may not have been a comfortable few weeks, but if we can view current dynamics objectively we can come out of it with deeper insight into how we and other people operate in the beautiful mess that is human relationships! If, however, defensiveness and blame have become our default settings we may reach the end of this retrograde phase wearing enhanced armour that will only serve to isolate us in due course. Between 11th and 27th June we have a final chance to address outstanding issues before Mercury moves on to pastures new and we must learn how to walk around in this ungainly armour for the coming months. Far better to shed it before then, steel ourselves for dialogue and do what needs to be done!

Neptune’s retrograde passage (12th June – 18th November 2015) coupled with Saturn’s final sojourn into Scorpio (15th June – 18th September) amplify the need to connect with the divine within, for only by rooting ourselves in sacred source can we truly be free to share ourselves authentically with others. This is how we find the courage to speak the truth, the strength to commit, the power to change and the wisdom to let go. Knowing ourselves as something greater than the ‘little me’ that fears rejection, shies away from misunderstanding and demands acceptance to feel secure, unleashes the creative spirit to fly free and embody the power of mother nature, the awesomeness of the heavens, the depth of the deepest ocean and majesty of the highest peaks. Liberation, Saturn and Neptune tell us, is not about freedom from something, which concretises duality, but freedom to simply be. If we seek only liberation from that which binds, we are merely bound to its opposite. But freedom to simply be what we are in the fullness of our complexity and the simplicity of our divinity – that is true liberation, the flight of the phoenix from the flames of egoic insecurity and fear.

The Gemini New Moon on 16th continues the theme of emancipation. It provides a lightness of being coupled with the necessary energy to uproot some unhelpful influences in our lives. In doing so, however, it poses the question of what we intend to do with the resulting freedom? The desire for liberation is strong in many people these days, but freedom comes with responsibility and a conjunction between Black Moon Lilith and the North Node at the time of this New Moon reminds us we cannot liberate ourselves from each other. Our collective destiny calls now, urging us to make a stand for truth, embrace possibility and allow new ways of being in community to emerge. We cannot survive alone on this planet, nor can we do so by exploiting its inhabitants for our own gain, but by recognising them as the divine spark they are. In doing so we honour the creative spirit which burst forth aeons ago and lives on in each and every one of us. To gaze upon the world in this way is an act of power, a moment of rebellion against the tiny mind that sees you over there and me over here, competing for resources and security, for life itself. Life is not a competition but a team effort with the winning score-line being the one which makes us all victors, equal in value and honoured as a spark of sacred source lit millennia ago and still burning bright through the ages.

The 19th June sees Chiron, Uranus and Jupiter form an alignment which lasts until the 2nd week of July. In this we see the drive for individuality challenged by the desire for dissolution of self and unification with the divine. These two impulses, for individuality and union, exist side by side in the human spirit and are often perceived as incompatible. In fact they are two sides of the same coin, not obstacles to each others’ potential. We are both unique individuals and minute parts of an infinite whole. We can access identity, personality and individual presence alongside a dissolution of self into the collective field which connects us all. The process of conscious evolution necessitates intimacy with both these aspects of human experience.

However, the desire to side-step the messiness of human life and the trickiness of ego identification can result in a flight into ‘spirit’ without the necessary rootedness in the world of form where our body, the anchor of spirit, resides. This is not awakening but instead denial of incarnation and all its challenges. It can indeed be tough to see through the craziness of a world gone mad, but in seeing through it we are still part of it. We must live out our awakening – with its moments of insight, times of freedom and dark passages of isolation and challenge – here in this world not off in another. As the great Zen Masters remind us, awakening is not a pleasantly polite, neat and comfortable experience. It is messy, challenging, exhilarating, liberating and terrifying in equal measure! It teaches us how to be many things in one space, how to live with paradox, embrace contradiction and risk everything to be free.

As the Sun (21st June) and then Mars (24th June) enter Cancer whilst Venus and Jupiter continue to journey through Leo, the interplay of inspiration and emotion is highlighted as the month comes to an end. With a current dearth of planets in earth signs (we have only Pluto in Capricorn holding that fort), we may struggle to bring our imagined creations into form. Possibilities and potential may seduce us but the energy and effort required to manifest them could be lacking. Which brings us full circle back to the issue of creativity, for the more creative we can be in our everyday life – the more we attend to the wonder of life in all its messy glory – the better able we will be to make real our own creative endeavours when the time is right. We cannot rely solely on a moment of inspiration to fulfil our potential, nor on the right emotion to bring forth all we can be. We must also commit to the process, walk the path through famine and feast and do what is needed to manifest in the material realm the delights of our mind and heart.

As Mercury crosses its retrograde degree from mid-May, on 27th June, it wraps up concerns of the past six weeks and clears the decks for a new phase. Soon to enter the watery realms of Cancer it offers a few more days to think logically through current concerns before engaging a more intuitive approach to balance the mental one. Both have value. One is not more worthy than the other and we can recognise, now, how they work together to provide a balanced and rounded appreciation of all the data available! To honour one and dismiss the other is to cut ourselves in half and discard a huge portion of who we are. The mind and heart must work together and in so doing provide all the guidance we need to journey onward. Herein lies the key to creativity: a fulsome and rounded relationship with ourselves, each other and the world around us, which embraces paradox and celebrates diversity, within and without.

A conjunction between Venus and Jupiter in Leo as the month closes, celebrates all that we are as unique individuals and the power we have to change the world for the greater good. It is not only in recognising ourselves as part of the whole that we effect change, but also in standing out from it, to shine our unique light of selfhood and individuality. The iridescent tapestry of humanity, replete with differences of texture and tone, is fulfilled through each of us being ourselves, sharing our gifts, being honest about our foibles and never giving up on the potential for humanity to come through for each other, transforming the world as we go.

POWER SPOT MEDITATION

Find a place outdoors under the moon where you can meditate for a few minutes without being disturbed. You might want to take a blanket to lie on or a folding chair to sit on. Make sure it is a power spot for you, a spot that feels as though it’s the sweetest spot around. For example, in your home there are spots where you usually sit. You may have a special chair or couch you like because it feels the best there— it’s like your throne! Just like your home, nature also has a lot of power spots that feel better to sit or stand on. Feel the right spot by sensing with your heart and inner knowing. Power spots often have the healthiest plants and animals. These spots are also brighter and feel more comfortable to be in. They energize and refresh you, as well as magnify your energy.

As soon as you locate your power spot, get comfortable and begin relaxing by taking several deep breaths. Breathe in slowly, giving thanks for the breath of life. Feel it expanding in your lungs. Exhale and let go of all of your tension and stress. Repeat the breathing exercise, becoming more relaxed. Turn your mind completely to your breathing for a few minutes.

In your mind’s eye, imagine you are the Goddess or God of your choice. Who would you be? What powers would you have? What kind of world would you help to create? What if the choice was yours? What would you do? As a goddess or god, these are questions you address. How would you make life different or the same? As Goddess or God, what do you choose specifically for yourself and those you love, as well as the world? Imagine that life, that reality, for a few minutes.

When you are done, move your hands and your fingers, your toes and feet, and come back to the present place and time. Thank the Goddess or God. Clap your hands softly three times, and return home.

Let’s Talk Witch – Crossroads Magic

Crossroads Magic

A place where two roads cross has always been a magical location. It is a useful place for leaving offerings, burying spells or candle stubs and is thought to be where the worlds meet; a place of spirits.

You can make your own crossroads if you aren’t near one and need it for your spell or laying tricks. You can draw with chalk or sprinkle an outline with powder or salt to make a circle with a cross inside. You can draw it on the ground or on your altar. This is commonly referred to as a ‘cross mark’. If you need to be a bit more discreet you can just mark dots where the lines would touch the edge of the outer circle and a centre spot, this is referred to as a ‘five spot’. This is also sometimes called a quincunx or a cosmogram.

The five spot is generally used for sealing and fixing spells in place. You place items at each of the five spots; what you put there depends on location and the type of spell. Items used might be graveyard dirt, sachet powders, salt or powdered minerals.

If you can access the floorboards in a room, this is much preferred. Then you can fix the trick by laying five bundles of ingredients, such as roots, personal items, herbs, stones etc, literally under the floorboards at the five spots. You could also use thick rugs or items of furniture within the house to hide the bundles under.

If you have fitted carpets on the floors you could use spiritual waters to mark the five spots, but any liquid is considered a temporary measure as it evaporates and will need to be renewed.

You can also fix a protection trick by using four spot points outside your property, one at each corner. This makes it easier for burying bundles of ingredients. The centre point can be more discreet as it will be inside the house and is quite often salt.

Candle spells often incorporate the five spot method. Sachet powders are used at the four outer points and items from the spell left in the centre while the candle spell burns.

Crossroads are an excellent place for crossroad rituals (or spells) and also a good place to dispose of used spell remnants. To dispose of an item at the crossroads, throw it over your left shoulder towards the middle of the crossroads and walk away, never look back.

Candle wax stubs, ashes and leftover sachet powders are also good items to dispose of at a crossroads, especially if the items have been used in jinxes or harmful tricks.

White Sunday, or Whitsun, is the English name for the Feast of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit was believed to descend in tongues of flame on the Apostles, thus endowing them with the knowledge of languages they needed to do their work. The name White Sunday was given to this day because of the white robes that were worn by the priests who took their vows on this day.

A moveable feast, this is one of the grandest in the Christian tian calendar. Churches, homes, and spiritual sites are decorated with flowers, and friends and family gather for cheerful outdoor activities. In Scotland, fund-raising events, games, and Morris dancers add to the festivities. Some customs include tug-of-war, bread-throwing, and cheese-rolling, followed by a feast of roast veal, pigeon pie, gooseberry tart, and Yorkshire cheesecake.

Well, let’s see … abundance, prosperity, and good health has been our focus for this day. Now how about a little more information and ideas for working practical magick with one of our fascinating featured deities of the day?

Juno was the Queen of Heaven. As the matriarch of the gods, she guarded over women in every aspect of their lives. Juno was thought to have renewed her virginity every year. Similar to other goddess stories, Juno was a triple goddess-a virgin who belonged to no one; a mother and woman in the prime of her life, sexual and mature; and also a crone, powerful, wise, and sometimes vengeful (as she made her husband’s many mistresses’ lives either fairly unhappy or short).

There are references to an early all-female triad of goddesses known as the Capitoline Triad. This triad consisted of Juventas, Juno, and Minerva. To the Greeks, they would have been known as Hebe, Hera, and Hecate. Ultimately the triad became Juno, Minerva, and the male Jupiter. Jupiter, another of Thursday’s gods, was Juno’s consort.

As mentioned earlier, Juno, in her aspect as Juno Moneta, was the patron and protector of the Roman mint. The coins produced at her temples were blessed by Juno and imbued with her powers of abundance and prosperity. In another of her aspects as Juno Augusta, Juno was the goddess of an abundant harvest.

In addition, another of Juno’s magickal correspondences is the semiprecious stone malachite. Malachite is a beautiful green-banded stone that was also called the “peacock stone” in Italy. The peacock was a sacred animal of Juno’s, and the magickal energies of malachite encourage health and prosperity.

Today is the day for prosperity work of all kinds. It can also be used for healing work, whether that is a physical healing of an illness or an emotional healing. Also remember that you have to follow up your healing work and prosperity magick and physical action.

I can’t tell you the number of times I have met new witches who complain to me that their prosperity spell or “I need a better job” spell did not work as they expected. They’ll ramble on and on about how much time and money they spent working their magick….but, alas, they had no glorious manifestion of wealth or fabulous job that suddenly dropped out of the sky and landed in their laps.

Then, when I gently ask them, “Did you enchant your resume or application when you filled it out? Did you do a little confidence-boosting spellwork when you went to apply for the job or went to the interview?” typically they give me a blank, confused stare.

Nine times out of ten, their response is, “You mean I have to go out and actually look for the job too?” Um, yes, my dear, you certainly do. Magick follows the path of least resistance, which means it’s going to manifest along the simplest, quickest route. Get out there and hit the pavement. See what you can find. Times are tough and competition for good jobs is fierce, so you need whatever edge you can get. For folks like us, we’re going to get the edge by using our magick and our spellcraft.

Thursdays have such a rich source of magick for us to draw upon that, honestly, the sky is the limit. This is the day associated with the gods of the sky and heavens, after all. Get to know these deities and add their wisdom and magick into your days.
