Daily Rune for 3/17

Daily Rune

mannaz : man, humankind

Phonetic equivalent: m

DIVINATORY MEANINGS:
significator, self, family, community, relationships, social concerns
MAGICAL USES:
to represent a specific person or group of people; to establish social relationships
ASSOCIATED MYTHS & DEITIES:
Ask and Embla, Midgard
ANALYSIS:
In its broadest sense, mannaz represents all of humanity, and therefore the entire realm of Midgard. In more practical terms, though, it is those with whom we have personal connections, from our immediate circle of family and friends to the wider community around us, reminding us of our nature as social animals. It also represents our connection with the Gods and with nature, through the two Norse myths of the creation of humans; the first where they sprang from Ymir’s body, and the second in which they were created from two logs by a river. It takes the raw energy of ehwaz and controls it through our social conscience, reminding us of those we affect with our deeds both magical and mundane.

The rune itself resembles gebo with its joining of masculine and feminine elements, but is much more complete. It is the entire web of human relationships, with the self at the centre, which mirrors the web of fate explored through raiðo. But while that web was more or less fixed, this one is mutable and alive. Past and present, male and female, self and other – all opposites are joined here and made whole. Mannaz is our home, and speaks for all those whose lives we touch when we use the gifts we have been given through the runes

5: Patience

Hexagram 5

General Meaning: A fisherman can cast the line, but he can only wait for the fish to bite. Your catch will come in its own time; you cannot make it hurry to you — neither by working, nor by planning, nor by wishing. You may need to provide nourishment or support for others; but only through patience can you become the bridge between the fickle fish and the eventual feast. Strength in a time of trial waits quietly, resolutely. Weakness grows agitated, and abandons the effort before the fish bites. Periods of waiting are most fruitful when used for quiet contemplation.

Proceed cautiously, but resolutely, with whatever you are doing. The time and situation are calling for consistency and patience. Waiting is an essential skill; patience is a powerful force. Good timing is an ally of those with inner strength — the kind of strength that allows you to be uncompromisingly honest with yourself, while sticking to the path you have charted. If you persevere with a positive attitude, time weakens even the hardest obstacles. To rush anything, or impatiently force results, stimulates resistance and causes setbacks. At best, you achieve surface changes — the kind that can just as quickly be reversed. Steadfast waiting — while holding to your integrity leads to slow but permanent improvements. In the end, you accomplish something great. Practice patience.

Today’s Tarot Card for 3/17

Today’s Tarot Card for Everyone:

The Star

This Tarot Deck: Sacred Rose

General Meaning: What has traditionally been known as the Star card is about reconnecting one’s Soul with the Divine — the transcending of personality, family, community and reputation. It has to do ultimately with the freedom to be one’s Self. The Soul is responding to celestial influences — forces that can provide the personality with a stronger sense of purpose. The Star card helps us to remember our exalted origins and our attraction to a Higher Union.

This card could also be called the “Celestial Mandate” — that which refers us back to our reason for being, our mission in this lifetime. The Star reminds us that, in a sense, we are agents of Divine Will in our day-to-day lives. If we let go of the idea that we are supposed to be in control, we can more easily notice and appreciate the synchronicities that are nudging us along. In this way, we become more conscious of the invisible Helping Hand, and we better understand our place within — and value to — the larger Cosmos.

Daily Horoscopes for 3/17

General Daily Horoscope

The Moon shifts into practical Virgo at 4:53 am EDT, enabling us to be quite diligent today. Although our analytical abilities are sharper now, the narrowing Virgo energy is countered by the growing lunar light as we move toward Saturday’s Full Moon. We are full of fantastic visions because clever Mercury semisquares fantastic Neptune. Rather than being overly distracted by them, we must filter out anything that’s unnecessary to our current work.

Aries Horoscope
Aries Horoscope (Mar 21 – Apr 19)

Even the best times must come to an end. The party is over and now you must be serious about the work in front of you. But if you’ve been putting off the inevitable, today the window of procrastination can slam painfully on your fingers. There’s no need to be over-controlling now. The time for making excuses has passed. Stop talking and get started without further delay.

Taurus Horoscope
Taurus Horoscope (Apr 20 – May 20)

You may be relieved by the change of attitude in your friends and co-workers today, for there seems to be a trend toward more self-discipline. This makes it easier for you to be serious about your job without feeling out of place. Ask for the help you need to be more efficient, for others will probably be glad to offer their assistance now.

Gemini Horoscope
Gemini Horoscope (May 21 – Jun 20)

You are conflicted today because you know that it would be wise to turn down a social offer so you can concentrate on your work. However, it isn’t easy to say no, especially if you have an opportunity to be with your friends. Unfortunately, you won’t have much latitude now and responsibility must win out over frivolity. You’ll be able to return to the fun and games on another day once your work is done.

Cancer Horoscope
Cancer Horoscope (June 21 – Jul 22)

You need to share your needs with those in your immediate environment today as the Moon enters your 3rd House of Communication. But be careful, because you are tempted to become overly attached to the people you encounter as you carry out your job. Instead, maintain a high level of professional conduct in all your interactions. Everyone will be happier if you respect boundaries and give your co-workers the distance that they need.

Leo Horoscope
Leo Horoscope (Jul 23 – Aug 22)

You may breathe easier today when the Moon leaves your sign to enter your 2nd House of Self Worth. You might not feel as emotional, so there are fewer distractions to prevent you from taking what you’ve started and moving it into the next phase. For example, adding stability to a new idea now is more valuable than coming up with a completely different approach. You have already taken your first step. Take as many as you need until you find your own rhythm.

Virgo Horoscope
Virgo Horoscope (Aug 23 – Sep 22)

The Moon’s entry into hardworking Virgo is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate your commitment to your co-workers. But this is not about signing a contract or walking on a tightrope stretched between your old world and what awaits you in your future. This is about making your appearance in the present moment and remaining open to whatever happens. Once you shake your false sense of urgency, you’ll be free to find new ways to express yourself.

Libra Horoscope
Libra Horoscope (Sep 23 – Oct 22)

Your life has increased in complexity, yet your faster pace doesn’t bring you any closer to satisfaction. The elusive bluebird of happiness may be avoiding your windowsill for a reason today. But it’s not about anything you did, nor is it a sign of upcoming bad luck. If you change your attitude to a more positive outlook, you’ll be amazed at how quickly you can put your life in order.

Scorpio Horoscope
Scorpio Horoscope (Oct 23 – Nov 21)

You may be more careful than usual about choosing your friends today, but making important decisions is easier to do without stressing over them. Even if you decide to pass on a social gathering, it’s no big deal for you to simply send along your regrets. There’s no need to worry endlessly about what others think. For now, it’s crucial to follow your own path without waiting for anyone else’s approval.

Sagittarius Horoscope
Sagittarius Horoscope (Nov 22 – Dec 21)

There are specific tasks you must do today, whether you want to or not. The upside is that this can be a learning process for you because you can’t allow your needs to overshadow your place in the social network. But it may sadden you to realize that some of your peers don’t want to know anything about you; they only want you to do your job. The good news is that you’ll still get to go off on your own sweet adventure; just make sure to meet your obligations first.

Capricorn Horoscope
Capricorn Horoscope (Dec 22 – Jan 19)

Your inner self may not be aligned with your outer self today, leaving you with a lack of motivation. Normally, your ambitions are strong, but now it may be too much work to manage the details that could help you get through the day. Take control of your schedule by reserving the right to say no to anything new. Clearly let others know that you can only do so much at one time if you are to do it well.

Aquarius Horoscope
Aquarius Horoscope (Jan 20 – Feb 18)

Today’s Moon in your 8th House of Shared Resources can tie your finances to others. But things are not so simple now and complex relationships can have a big impact on your work. Thankfully, you are ahead of the pack if you already realize that you can’t do everything alone. When you join forces with someone else, the combined power can be unstoppable, so don’t be afraid of giving up some control to be a part of a group process.

Pisces Horoscope
Pisces Horoscope (Feb 19 – Mar 20)

The picky Virgo Moon enters your 7th House of Partners today, helping you compile a list of the flaws of your spouse, lover or closest friend. But you may be so critical that no one could possibly meet all your standards. Be gentle when evaluating others, since the issue isn’t really about them at all. It’s about your feelings and how you judge yourself. Keep in mind that the harsh criteria you are now using may be more of a hindrance than a help. If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.

Have A Wonderful, Fantastic & Beautiful Thursday!

and y’all are going what broom did she fall off, lol! I haven’t woke up good yet this morning. I got up around 10:00 a.m., this morning. I don’t know what time I actually went to bed. We have a large chandlier in the living room. Not to mention I don’t know how many table lamps. Hubby gets his laptop and goes in the living room at night. He turns the chandlier on and flops on the love seat. The chandlier shines right into the bedroom and right into my eyes. I flew out of the bed and had a few chose words for him. He just  couldn’t undertstand why I was angry. He turned the light out and I went to bed at who knows what time?

There is just alot of stuff that has been building up to a boiling point in our happy home. My birthday is Saturday. I had planned on just me and hubby going out to eat and then catch a movie. Well my daughter called and she talked to her father about all of us going out. She is daddy’s little girl, so he said, “Yes, that would be fine. We will even pay for it.”  A 500 lbs. gorilla couldn’t have stopped me from going through the roof. I don’t know what he is thinking. Dumb bunny is drawing unemployment and we have a huge light bill due tomorrow. I have put the money back for the lights and he knows it. I told him yesterday if he thinks I am taking any of that money for us all to go out to eat, he’s CRAZY! I told him to tell “his” daughter that I’m not going. My daughter and son both work and they know their Father is laid off. To even suggest we all go out to eat, still makes my blood boiled.

Then hubby is mad at me because I told him something I saw and he told me I was CRAZY! (Notice a trend here, crazy is coming up quite a bit today, lol!) I had a dream about his job. The dream told me, he didn’t have a job anymore.  The job he took, the person who had it was fired. So hubby automatically moved up. The plant has an outage and this person showed back up. (The rule is once you are fired you don’t ever come back.) Hubby kept telling me the outage was coming to an end and he would be laid off for thirty days. The x-employee was still working when hubby got laid off. Hubby was thrilled to death. He was going to get 30 days off. He could get some stuff done he has meant to do for awhile. Thirty days have come and gone, no phone call and he still hasn’t got a damn thing done around here. The only thing he has accomplished is driving me crazy. He has his days and nights mixed up. He sleeps all day and he is up all night. Last night my furry baby and I went to town while he was asleep. I can’t get him to do anything. He won’t even get out of the house to ride to McDonald’s to get a milkshake. But back to the subject at hand, the x-employee was called back to fill hubby’s job. They are getting ready for an outage again, I told hubby what would happen if he goes. Now I am praying to the Goddess that something else opens up before that outage starts. He will walk in the warehouse. Sees his name plaque is off the door. Sees x-employee feet proped on his desk, he will get mad turn around and walk out the door. For those of you who have not drawn employment before, if you walk off a job your unemployment stops. You can get laid-off or fired and still draw unemployment. If you walk off the job, nothing. I told him that he knows the outage is coming up. Just check the caller ID and don’t answer the phone if it is any of them.  Needless to say, I have been feeling down about that.

Now for the wolf update, I know you missed it, lol! I had been making it a habit to stay inside at night. Then I got to thinking that is so stupid. I am not alternating my lifestyle. I am going back to doing what I use to do. I don’t know who is the biggest dummy around here! I grabbed my little pup and we ran to the store. It was dark when we left. I didn’t think a thing about it. When we got back I grabbed Kiki, my purse and a bag of ice and got out on the driver’s side.  I got all that inside and went back out. We have motion lights, so I was looking at my keys. Then I heard something, you can hear the wolf coming before he is actually up on you. I was already at the truck’s door. I fumbled and fumbled with keys. I could hear him and I knew he was about right on me. I had made my mind up that I was going to be supper for Mr. Wolf.  He came running right down the side of the truck. When he got to me he slowed down a little bit. Thankfully he was just slowing down to move around me. I felt his brisally hairs on my legs. He picked back up to the speed he was going when I first heard him. He went right straight out into the field after a coyote. Needless to say, my heart was beating about 1000. No telling what the old blood pressure was. But you can sit your clock every morning around 4:00 he is on the far side of our porch. I haven’t made up my mind yet if I want to try and get friendly with him or not. I am still pondering if that coyote wasn’t there, would he have come after me?

Well that is only bits of what has been going on in my life. I hope I haven’t bored you to tears. I hope everyone has a great day. If you get a chance get out and enjoy the day. It is gorgeous here. I am off for now…………

Blessings to you and yours!

Finding and Blessing Your Home

Finding and Blessing Your Home

by Bronwynn Forrest Torgerson

Spring is in the air, and the nesting urge has begun. Here is a light-hearted and airy house-finding and house-blessing ritual for people who know in their bones that it’s time to seek out a home of their own. You’ve long outgrown your parents’ nest and passed the nomadic apartment dweller phase. The new you longs for stability and a place to call home. You want your name on a mailbox, invitations to homeowners’ association meetings. You covet a mantel on which to display Grandma Madison’s china or Grandpa Rossman’s musket. You yearn for trees you can get to know over many seasons and neighbors you can count on, and you have your resources all in a row. This springtime ritual can help sharpen the focus and bring your dream house into the land of manifest reality.

Do your mundane homework first. Check the listings and property values, and listen up for real estate agents that are real wizards at cinching a deal and taking your priorities to heart. Then enter the magickal realms…

House-Hunting Ritual

For the house-hunting ritual, you will need:

  • A bird’s nest (Warning: shakest thou not the nests from the trees, but go ye into craft stores instead, where such things await in great bounty!)
  • A hollowed-out and dried egg that you can write on with a fine-point marking pen
  • A gold candle
  • A house representation
  • A piece of parchment paper
  • A small fire laid of straw and twigs

Make a simple altar outdoors, with those things important to your tradition. For your house representation, many possibilities exist. Do you own a Monopoly game? Pluck a green plastic house from the box. Have a Yule decoration shaped like a gingerbread house? That will do fine. You can also simply draw a house outline on the parchment paper, leaving room for your list of specs. Don’t worry if it’s not perfect. Love and the universe will make it so. On the egg, write “My new home.” You can add your name, date and runes or other magickal sigils if you want.

Now comes your shopping list. Be as specific as you can, while keeping a healthy amount of realism in play. Where should the house be, in conjunction to work, school, culture, family, etc? Envision your ideal floor plan, describing it in words. Is there a yard? A garden space? Is the place environmentally friendly? How big is the garage? What would you like to be within strolling distance of? For price range, you might want to give two figures — the first being what you’d prefer to pay, and the second being the most you can go.

When you are done, roll up your parchment paper so that it’s a thin enough scroll to be inserted through the open ends of the hollowed-out egg. Where else would a dream house hatch? Cast the circle in your way, lastly lighting the gold candle and invoke your patron deity, or whomever you feel most likely to help you in this rite. You may wish to call upon the Goddess in her guise as bird goddess, ancient mother of us all, from whom the egg of the world was laid. Other hearthfire keepers might include Juno, Vesta, Brigit or Hestia. Nordic types may turn to Frigga as queen mother of Asgard, or even to good friend Thor, said to gladly bless a new home and to party with the best. A suggested invocation might be:

By the spark within Your breast,
Feel my longing for my nest.
Grant that I, contented, dwell
By sacred words and ancient spell.
So mote it be!

Holding the egg cupped in your hands, and speak aloud your dearest wishes and desires for your home, including the timeframe in which you hope to find it. Kiss the egg gently and lay it in the nest, thanking Deity for making it hatch with its otherworldly, all-knowing magick. Lay the nest atop the twigs and straw you will use to kindle the fire, then light the spark. As the nest, egg, and your vision burn, know that your mental blueprints are rising to the heavens where your Hallowed House Hunter is seeing them clearly and already beginning to discern where your perfect home might be.

Close the circle in your way, but allow the gold candle to burn out. If that is not possible all in one night, pinch it out and relight it for the next several nights until the candle is gone.

Get yourself a cardboard box and pack some unneeded things away. This signals the universe that you are becoming mobile and can take occupancy of your new home as soon as the closing documents are signed.

House-Blessing Ritual

Huzzah! The Old Ones and your banker have coming shining through! You dance a wild jig, sign a million papers and are petrified and exhilarated. You are now a homeowner! For this house-blessing ritual, you will need:

  • A white taper candle
  • Blessing oil (your choice of scent)
  • Sage or incense
  • A crystal dish or clear bowl
  • Bells

The first New Moon after you have keys in hand and have unpacked enough things to live sanely from day to day, invite friends over to bless your new home. Ask each to bring you a coin from the happiest place they have visited recently — so that your home might be blessed with happiness and prosperity — and a bell to ring for mirth and to summon the fey folk forth.

Light the candle, and trace an invoking pentagram at every entrance, asking that truth, benevolence and harmony enter in. You may wish to add an extra wish for great sex, creativity, personal growth and new opportunities, or other heart’s desires. Hand your favorite blessing oil to a special friend, and have him or her bless each reflective surface by drawing the same invoking pentagram in oil and expressing the same wish. Burn some sage or your favorite magickal incense, inviting all unseen creatures of goodly heart and helpful hands to come and dwell herein.

After this is accomplished, guests may deposit their coins one by one into the dish, telling of the happy place in which the coin made its way into their pockets. Never spend these coins, but rather look upon this hoard as treasure of the heart and a certain guarantee that you will never be destitute.

Now those guests who have bells should go merrily ringing and dancing through the place, proclaiming lighthearted wishes for you as they do so: “I wish for your cat to love it here! I wish you incredible sexual romps! May nothing you cook in this kitchen ever burn! May there always be wine in your fridge!” Let unbounded imagination bring forth creative, graphic, heartfelt and humorous wishes. Well-wishers may shout “huzzah!” or “so mote it be!”

Now it is time to sing to the house itself, blessing it with your hopes and praise. What better tune than the 1980s classic rock tune, “Our House,” by Graham Nash? Here are some magickally-modified lyrics, penned by yours truly, to serenade your new home:

Oh my/your house is a very, very, very fine house!
With friends in every chair
And love beyond compare.
Yes my/your house is a very, very, very fine house!

Oh my/your house is a very, very, very fine house!
Prosperity abounds
And hearty laughter sounds.
Oh my/your house is a very, very, very fine house!

Oh my/your house is a very, very, very fine house!
Health, wealth, good fortune too.
All blessings come to you.
For my/hour house is a very, very, very fine house!

This would be the perfect time for a toast, to you, to the God/dess, to your new home, and to many years of happiness together.

Witch Bottle

Witch Bottle

by Amanda Silvers

A witch bottle or ball is a protective warding device, to be used when you are wanting to keep away enemies. It is very effective and I have had very good luck with it, especially when living in high crime areas.

You will need at least five to ten of these things:

a sturdy bottle with a wide mouth

a cork that fits the bottle

bones

broken pieces of mirror

bunch of broken glass

bunch of needles and pins

globs of black wax

handful of glitter

handful of rocks

lint

lion, bear or wolf fur

nails

pictures of demons

staples

tangled hair

tangled thread, black

teeth

your own urine

First, clean and clear yourself the area and all the ingredients. Cast your circle in your normal way, ask the elements, the god and goddess and the fey for their assistance in creating this ward. Ask for clarity of purpose and focus on being completely protected from all types of harm.

When you are finished casting your circle, bless all the ingredients with your purpose of protection.

Next, take the items, one by one that you have assembled and hold them up before the bottle, state the individual purpose of each;, such as; “glitter to attract my enemies to this bottle.” “Needles and pins to poke those who would do me harm.” “Urine to repel attackers.” “Broken glass to cut my enemies.” “Thread to tangle any who would do me harm.”

It is good to plan your order prior to the ritual and you can tell a little story, like; “Enemies may come close to see themselves in the mirrors or they may be attracted into the bottle by the glitter, then they get tangled in the thread, cut by the glass, pricked by the pins and needles and drowned in the urine, once their negative energy is caught in this bottle it may not escape. They are scared away from me forever. I am safe from all harm.

As you make the statements insert each thing into the bottle. Once everything is inside, melt the black wax and cork the bottle using the wax as a sealant. Inscribe your rune on the cork and bury the bottle somewhere close to your front door. You must bury it far enough under the earth that no one finds it.

Make sure and make your intention clear, and say this or better for the best and highest good of all. This is a very powerful spell, I hope you never have to invoke it.

Shower Your Cares Away

Shower Your Cares Away

by Sylvana SilverWitch

Much more than earth, fire or air, the healing aspects of water are easy for me to identify with, maybe partly because I am a double water sign — Pisces sun with Cancer rising. I seem to think about water most of the time. It seems I am either washing myself, my hands or face, or drinking or sitting in it. I am very much attuned to the properties of water, and I find that if I stray very far away from a large body of water, I am unhappy and I just don’t feel right.

Even if you don’t have signs in water, as a human being you’re naturally attuned to water, because the great majority of your body is made of it. In a way, water is the easiest element for us to connect with, because we can easily submerge ourselves in it, unlike in fire or earth. When we do immerse ourselves in water, we’re usually conscious of doing so, unlike our experience of immersing in air.

Following is a quick cleansing meditation that makes use of this natural connection to water and that is designed to be used in the shower.

If you are one of those people who can’t seem to find the time to meditate, or if you ever need a psychic cleanup in a hurry, this meditation might be perfect for you. It takes only a very few minutes once you get the process memorized. It really works and can be very helpful, and it is easy to do every day as a part of your normal routine, since most of us shower or bathe every day (or at least I hope we do). I do it every day, all the time — no matter where I am.

This meditation involves cleansing and running energy through your body while in the process of cleansing your body by taking a shower. I make use of the actual physicality of washing in the shower and the motion of the water as a focus for the cleansing and healing meditation.

The first few times, try it when you are not too rushed, so you have time to get a feel for how it works for you.

First, get into the shower and do what ever you need to do that may take some attention to detail, such as washing your hair or shaving. Then do your usual grounding and centering. Next, visualize yourself standing in the middle of a wonderful, warm, healing waterfall, golden sun radiant on you, mist glistening up brilliant rainbows and water gently cascading down around and over you. Visualize the water delicately caressing every part of your body with cleansing, nurturing energy.

Smell the warmth of the water as it runs in rivulets over your body. Imagine you are in a tropical paradise, a magickal place that you have come for healing your body and spirit. Hear the sounds of the water rushing over you.

Contemplate your day and week and anything seemingly important that has happened during them. Feel throughout your body and notice if there are any places that your energy feels “stuck” or heavy. Think about your physical body and how it has been feeling. Search with your awareness your whole body: your bones, muscles, nerves, skin and organs. Notice any place that seems to need attention. Use your perception to observe anything that seems out of place or wrong to you.

I also like to take this time to look and feel for energy “cords” connecting me to other people. Cords are energetic connections to people and energies that I am not responsible for and don’t need to carry around. They look like literal cords, or sometimes more like cables, between us and those we come into contact with, especially loved ones, friends, co-workers and yes, even enemies!

When you get a sense of what energies you might want to disperse, then work on dispersing them by beginning to propel the energy around and through you. Dissipate it by gathering it and sending it washing down your body with the water into the drain. Imagine or picture it being cleansed from you — your energy body then transparent, shining pure and clear.

Think about being cleansed of all of the anger, resentment and negativity that has been thrown at you or that you have picked up from other people or situations and that you have carried around. These energies can cause disease and stress. Anger, resentment and negativity all may harm you if you don’t dissipate and neutralize them from time to time.

Understand that by cleaning your body and using your sponge and soap and at the same time imagining “cleaning” your body and energy, that you “scrub” yourself clean, both body and aura. Then ground out the energy with the water.

After you have finished cleansing, see the water flowing completely through you — healing and nurturing all the parts of yourself, body, soul, mind, heart and spirit.

I have found that if I miss my “shower meditation,” I do not feel grounded and I have trouble concentrating and focusing on the matters at hand. I sometimes have physical symptoms and just don’t feel good if I miss my water meditation. Try it, see how it works for you and adapt it if you need to.

‘THINK on THESE THINGS’

‘THINK on THESE THINGS’
By Joyce Sequichie Hifler

Sensibility is said to be neither good nor evil in itself, but in its application. Sometimes we just “out-sensible” ourselves. In the course of years we come to see the pattern of the truly sensible. What have we at this moment that really means anything? Does it give us happiness? Did it once seem most impractical? Was it worth fighting for?

The intellectual strives for knowledge and in his absorption leaves the world but hardly leaves a vacancy. The materialistic must have everything at the price of peace, and their possessions decay but never their chaotic souls. And the insecure forfeit the most minute comforts to save for that rainy day. Happiness would have been greater and far more lasting if the fund had been smaller and used as an opportunity fund.

The fine line of sensibility can be most elusive but it seems to be more clearly seen when we relax and quit shoving to get there. If the place we desire is meant for us, it will come when we learn the way isn’t always sharp and direct and by demand.

Elder’s Meditation of the Day – March 16

“Each of us must know in our minds and believe in our hearts that even though we are different, you are like me and I am like you.”

–Larry P. Aitken, CHIPPEWA

One of the definitions of humility is having an awareness of one’s own character defects. To recognize and acknowledge that one has imperfections is being humble. We should never pray for ourselves unless by doing so it would help another person. To have self-importance puts self first and this is not humble. We each have strengths and we each have weaknesses. Both the strengths and weaknesses are sacred. Life is sacred. We learn sacred things from weaknesses also. Therefore, all lives are developed through trial and error, strength and weakness, ups and downs, gains and losses-all of these are part of life and life is sacred.

Great Mystery, let me see and know about the sacredness of life.

It seems there is often too much of one thing and not enough of the other. Balance has a way of disappearing when we need it most. But it is our fault for thinking that once we have things all working together it will stay in balance without our having to do anything else. Nothing is so set that it will never change. We should never give in to challenge that throw us off center. Wait a little while. Something may be working that we don’t know about. Don’t accept everything as it appears. It can change in a moment’s notice and swing our way. Very often the law of nonresistance is at work here. Some of our best decisions are based on standing still until we can get a true picture.

Your Deck of Ancient Symbols Card for Today

Futility

Sadly sometimes our desires lead us down paths which have no end and offer us no chance of achieving the results we want. If we persist we end up like Sisyphus: forever rolling a boulder uphill only to have it roll back downhill before we ever get to the top. Futility suggest the existence of just such a situation–we are chasing a prize that will never be ours. Futility indicates a need to rethink our ambitions and direct our energies towards a goal or goals that can be attained.

As a daily card, Futility implies that you are putting energy into goals that cannot be met. It suggest the need to rethink your desires and possibly find a new goal or goals to chase.
