Quado’s Garden: Honor Yourself Today

Honor Yourself Today

Today, give yourself great respect.  Let every thought and every action you direct toward yourself to be how you would treat someone for whom you feel both admiration and gratitude, and someone you would like very much to have as a dear friend.

Every thought should be only what you would direct toward such a person.  Every action you take should be colored with deep respect, deep kindness and an underlying love for yourself.

You are everything.  You are your best friend.  You are the one person who will always be there.  Treat yourself this way.  Give yourself the credit you are due. Honor yourself for how hard you have worked, all of the wonderful things you have done, the many, many ways in which you have learned and grown.  Honor yourself for all of this.

You are worth it all.  You are worth every kind word and loving act.  Treasure yourself today, just for being exactly the person that you are, right now.

‘May we live in peace without weeping. May our joy outline the lives we touch without ceasing. And may our love fill the world, angel wings tenderly beating.’

Water Meditation

Meditating with water can be a powerful way of aligning ourselves with an element that sustains us.

Our bodies are over fifty percent water, so it makes sense that human beings have always considered water to be a sacred source of life and healing. It is literally half of who we are, and well over half of the earth’s surface is water. Water cleanses and hydrates, contains and produces nourishment, and when we enter it, holds us in an embrace that leaves no part of us untouched. Meditating with water can be a powerful way of aligning ourselves more fully with this support system that makes life both possible and pleasurable on so many levels.

We may wish to conduct our meditation while in physical contact with a body of water, whether in the intimacy of our bathtub or the vast container of an ocean. We might float on our backs in a swimming pool or sit with just our feet submerged in a pond or creek. On the other hand, we may simply close our eyes and choose a location based on our imagination. Whatever we choose, we can begin by closing our eyes and listening to our breathing. At the same time, we tune in to the particular music of the water we have chosen—the loud rushing of a river or waterfall, or the surreal silence of the world beneath the surface of the ocean. We might consider how the type of water we choose reflects what we seek—the peace beneath the hectic surface of life, the cleansing power of a river racing through a canyon, or the mood lifting, melodic bubbling of a lively creek.

As we move between awareness of our breath and awareness of the water in which we find ourselves, we can begin to release the things we no longer need into the rushing river, or release ourselves completely into the water’s embrace as we float, in our minds, in the watery womb of an ocean or a lake. When you feel you are ready to return to more solid ground, ease your body back onto earth, in your mind or in reality, and lie flat on your back, allowing the water to bead and roll off your skin, soaking the earth and evaporating into the air, leaving you cleansed, healed, and renewed.

Today’s I Ching Hexagram for 1/27

Today’s I Ching Hexagram for Everyone:

52: Keeping Still

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

Hexagram 52

General Meaning: Regular periods of keeping still are an important aspect of personal development and forward motion. The most restful person may not be the one who sleeps twelve hours a day, but the one able to grab catnaps while cruising 600 miles-per-hour at 35,000 ft. Learning to act when it is time to act, and to keep still when it is time to keep still, is the key to obtaining the peace of mind which helps you stay focused when clear focus is needed.

Consider the spine, which serves as a switchboard for all the nerves of the body that mediate movement. When the spine is kept flexible and healthy through proper rest and relaxation, active movement can always be undertaken without strain. When the spine is held erect in a balanced sitting posture, the inner balancing of meditation can take place.

Treat your innate spark of energetic vitality like a candle in the wind you are protecting, as your only light in a dark forest on a moonless night. Avoid external conditions that threaten to snuff out the flame, and be careful not to suffocate it with your own ambitions of worries.

Time out. Relax now, take your shoes off and sit a spell. Let go of thinking. Breathe and meditate on the breathing.

Today’s Tarot Card for 1/27

Today’s Tarot Card for Everyone:

The Lovers

This Tarot Deck: Etteilla

General Meaning: Although it has taken on a strictly romantic revision of meaning in some modern decks, traditionally the Lovers card of Tarot reflected the challenges of choosing a partner. At a crossroads, one cannot take both paths. The images on this card in different decks have varied more than most, because we have had so many ways of looking at sex and relationships across cultures and centuries.

Classically, the energy of this card reminded us of the real challenges posed by romantic relationships, with the protagonist often shown in the act of making an either-or choice. To partake of a higher ideal often requires sacrificing the lesser option. The path of pleasure eventually leads to distraction from spiritual growth. The gratification of the personality eventually gives way to a call from spirit as the soul matures.

Modern decks tend to portray the feeling of romantic love with this card, showing Adam and Eve at the gates of Eden when everything was still perfect. This interpretation portrays humanity before the Fall, and can be thought to imply a different sort of choice — the choice of evolution over perfection, or the choice of personal growth through relationship — instead of a fantasy where everything falls into place perfectly and is taken care of without effort.

Daily Horoscopes for 1/27

General Daily Horoscope

The intense Scorpio Moon reminds us that the idea of balance sometimes sounds better than it actually is. Today, we are wise to express our position and then take a stand, irrespective of the consequences. However, we might overstate our opinions as communicator Mercury forms a skillful quintile with excessive Jupiter. Meanwhile, assertive Mars septiles Jupiter, suggesting that the outcome of our actions is not necessarily what we expect.

Aries Horoscope
Aries Horoscope (Mar 21 – Apr 19)

Your current optimism about the future motivates you to swing into action, yet it also distracts you from what’s happening right in front of your nose. You could be eager to shift your focus away from a complicated emotional situation that would benefit from your undivided attention today. Just remember that a positive attitude can be helpful as long as you don’t forget to use your common sense in the process.

Taurus Horoscope
Taurus Horoscope (Apr 20 – May 20)

You may feel as if you have finally broken through the resistance that’s been holding you back. Luckily, you now have an opportunity to change your life for the better. You have an upbeat approach and are certain that you’re moving along the right path, even if the current circumstances suggest otherwise. Hold on to your dreams, for your self-confidence may be your greatest asset at this time.

Gemini Horoscope
Gemini Horoscope (May 21 – Jun 20)

You may feel irritated with the intensity of your own feelings today, but you just can’t make them disappear. You might be fearful that there isn’t an easy way out of an entangled situation, and even with your mental agility, you still cannot rationalize your reaction. Stop resisting your emotions; sink into them instead. You will have time later to revisit your experience and logically plan what to do next.

Cancer Horoscope
Cancer Horoscope (June 21 – Jul 22)

You may have one great idea after another today, yet you’re likely to keep them to yourself. It isn’t that you’re insecure about sharing your thoughts; you actually think that you’re moving in the right direction. It’s just that you believe that your plans are still developing and are not yet solid enough to talk about with anyone else. Don’t feel obliged to say anything until you are ready.

Leo Horoscope
Leo Horoscope (Jul 23 – Aug 22)

An unexpected interaction with a friend or a new acquaintance can raise your level of self-confidence today. The faith that someone else has in you now may exceed the belief you have in yourself. But you don’t necessarily suffer from low self-esteem; it’s just that you must stretch to fulfill other people’s expectations of you. Don’t waste your time feeding your doubts. Your uncertainty doesn’t have to slow you down in the pursuit of your goals.

Virgo Horoscope
Virgo Horoscope (Aug 23 – Sep 22)

You might not trust your own assessment of a situation today, for even the impossible looks doable. It’s great to be confident about your own capabilities, but it’s not smart to ignore what’s really happening. Although your key planet Mercury is buzzing from its connection to enthusiastic Jupiter to bolster your morale, your logical mind isn’t taken in by the good news. Be patient; clarity will return in time for you to make the best decision.

Libra Horoscope
Libra Horoscope (Sep 23 – Oct 22)

You are wiser to build on what you have already started, rather than initiating a new project now. However, you still could be tempted to skip over a step or two in your haste. Your judgment isn’t as clear as you think now, so slow down your timeline. Delaying your responses allows you to consider the practicality of your actions before you jump in too far. Less hurrying today means less worrying tomorrow.

Scorpio Horoscope
Scorpio Horoscope (Oct 23 – Nov 21)

Today’s magnetic Scorpio Moon turns up the heat on your desires, but you still might not be ready to share your feelings. You often hide your emotions when you believe that they might make others uncomfortable, yet you are thinking about trying a different tactic today. Talk about what you want, but don’t get overly attached to the outcome. Instead of making anyone else responsible, just express your needs. You may be pleasantly surprised by what happens next.

Sagittarius Horoscope
Sagittarius Horoscope (Nov 22 – Dec 21)

Your key planet Jupiter is dazzled by trickster Mercury today, challenging you to concentrate on the demanding mundane affairs of your life. You must deal with what’s happening in your immediate environment, even if it’s not as much fun as dreaming about the future. But no one can see what you’re thinking, so you can continue exploring your unexpressed fantasies as long as you cover your bases in the present moment.

Capricorn Horoscope
Capricorn Horoscope (Dec 22 – Jan 19)

You may not be on the same page as your friends today. It’s not that you’re trying to be different; it’s just that you feel strongly about something that highlights an unresolved issue. Tread carefully, for the harder you attempt to get to the bottom of the disagreement, the wider the gulf becomes. Thankfully, this split doesn’t need to be fixed right away; give the situation some breathing room and things will begin to heal on their own.

Aquarius Horoscope
Aquarius Horoscope (Jan 20 – Feb 18)

You may feel overstimulated today. Every little thing that bubbles into your awareness brings cascades of thoughts along with it. Every new idea tempts you to swing into action. However, you can’t easily separate the reality of your day from your desire to help save the world. Ultimately, there’s no need to confine your thinking now; observe your inner process and watch as the very smallest details magically merge with your global perspective.

Pisces Horoscope
Pisces Horoscope (Feb 19 – Mar 20)

You could feel so overwhelmed today that you just want to rest now. Your mind may be racing so fast that you can’t quiet the flow of ideas, whether they are useful or not. Don’t try to catch any single thought and turn it into something practical. Instead, just let the mental currents rush through your mind and rest assured that the most important concepts won’t be lost.

‘THINK on THESE THINGS’

‘THINK on THESE THINGS’
By Joyce Sequichie Hifler

Human dignity is that silent something in us that keeps from falling below the level where others look down on us to make light of our very existence. None of us exists who cannot sense to some degree the feeling that others hold for us. It may create in us a “show them” attitude that takes us through life more successfully, but it will more likely destroy our desire to be anything more than what is expected of us.

It is an appalling thing to see others impose their superiority upon human dignity of those whose literacy may not be equal to their own. Only profound ignorance could convince anyone they have the right to see and idly judge another’s intelligence, or to insult the dignity of any human being.

The little silent people who have not yet discovered within themselves the abilities they need to lift themselves, still have the right and dignity of being human. A small amount of respect and direction might start them on the road to better things, though it might be all uphill. At least if they know it is all uphill they may work harder and reach and place where they can look back at those with lofty ideas about themselves, standing forever stagnant, and feel more compassion than they could ever have felt.

Elder’s Meditation of the Day – January 26

Elder’s Meditation of the Day – January 26

“All life is a circle.”

–Rolling Thunder, CHEROKEE

The atom is a circle, orbits are circles, the earth, moon, and sun are circles. The seasons are circles. The cycle of life is a circle: baby, youth, adult, elder. The sun gives life to the earth who feeds life to the trees whose seeds fall to the earth to grow new trees. We need to practice seeing the cycles that the Great Spirit gave us because this will help us more in our understanding of how things operate. We need to respect these cycles and live in harmony with them.

Great Spirit, let me grow in knowledge of the circle.

January 26 – Daily Feast

January 26 – Daily Feast

There are in every life both sunshine people and rainy-day people. There are giving people and there are those who take, but how so few in number are those who understand. To have someone understand why we cry or laugh, why we feel downcast for no apparent reason, is to have a friend. A friend accepts our changes of mood without telling us to snap out of it. They know if we could so easily handle tears we would have done it already. All our loneliness and worry and fear seems to fade in the presence of a friend who never judges but stands alongside with loyalty. “My u na li, take my hand and walk with me until you can go alone.” It gives us what we need to be a friend as well.

Today’s Goddess: JUN TI

Today’s Goddess: JUN TI

Chinese New Year (China)

Themes: Long Life; Luck; Fertility; Wisdom; Tradition
Symbols: Dragons; Sun and Moon Symbols; the Numbers Three and Eighteen

About Jun Ti: This Chinese Buddhist Goddess oversees all matters of life generously. In works of art she is depicted as living on Polaris, the star around which all things revolve, including each individual’s fate. She has three eyes for wise discernemnt, eighteen arms holding weapons with which to protect her people, and a dragon’s head that symbolizes her power and wisdom.

To Do Today: Jun Ti can help you live a more fulfilled life this year by overseeing your fortune and well-being. To encourage her assistance, think silver and gold (or white and yellow) – the colors of the moon and sun. Wear items in these hues, or perhaps have a glass of milk followed by pineapple juice in the morning to drink fully of her attributes!

On or around this day, the Chinese take to the streets with new year festivities that last two weeks. Eating various rice-based dishes today encourages fertility, respect, and long life, while wearing new shoes brings Jun Ti’s luck. It is also customary to be on one’s best behavior and honor the ancestors throughout the day for good fortune. The climax of festivities is a dragon parade, the beast, Jun Ti’s sacred animal, being associated with ancient knowledge and tradition. So, find a way to commemorate your personal or family customs today to draw Jun Ti’s attention and blessing.

The Happiness of Remembering

The Happiness of Remembering

A Pujatale by Tasha
Once  there  was  a  happy Buddha named Bobo. He loved to smile and laugh, and wherever he went he spread joy.
This  was his job. As a result, he received whatever he needed, whenever he needed it, All he had to do was to
remember to be thankful.

However, as time went by, he began to take what he received for granted and forgot to be thankful. One day One
day he found himself before the throne of Most High.

“Well, Bobo,” said Most High, “you are forgetting to be thankful.”

“I’m so sorry,” Bobo replied. “I promise I’ll never do it again.”

“Well,”  said  Most  High  kindly,  “You’ll  get  another chance, but if you begin to forget again, the law of
reciprocity will have its way with you. There’s nothing I can do about that”

“Oh,” said Bobo, “Ah. Hum.”

“You  remember,  Bobo,  reciprocity means that what goes around comes around. Sometimes it’s called the golden
rule,” Most High added.

“I  won’t  forget  again,”  said  Bobo  sincerely.  And  for  some time he was extra careful to remember to be
thankful.  But  in  spite  of  his good intentions, he began forgetting again. One day he forgot to say “Thank
you,” to the woman who was giving him some water to drink.

“Bobo,  you  have  lost your awareness,” Most High said sadly. “You forgot to stay present in the moment. I am
sorry  to  say,  you  will  completely forget you are a Buddha. That will continue only until such time as you
remember enough of what it means to be a Buddha again.”

“What does that mean?” Bobo asked, but already he was back where he had been. Now he wondered why he was there
and  what  he  was  supposed  to  be  doing.  He  shook his head and sighed. “I must spend my days remembering
something, But I’m not sure what.”

With a vague feeling that something was missing from his life, Bobo wandered the streets. He had to rummage in
trash  cans  for  bits of leftover food and clothing and huddle on street corners trying to stay warm. He grew
more and more miserable.

One  day,  he found a small grey alley cat. Starving and angry, she was even worse off than he was. She almost
bit  his  hand  when he offered her some of the half eaten sandwich he’d found in the trash. He felt sorry for
her. His chest began to feel warm from the inside out. His heart was expanding. What could he do to help?

He spoke to her softly. Eventually she came closer. Finally she crawled into his coat for warmth. As time went
by, he nursed her back to health, sharing his food, talking to her and petting her when he felt lonely.

He  found  a  bird  with a broken wing fluttering on the sidewalk. Tenderly he picked it up. Somehow with very
little  effort,  the  wing  went back in place. He carried the pigeon in his picket until it could fly, but by
then it was used to his pocket and liked being there when it wasn’t aloft.

His  collection  of  animals  grew. He carried a mouse in another pocket, a small garter snake he’d found half
dead outside a pet shop coiled around his wrist. A mangy dog adopted him and grew progressively better looking
with  feeding  and  brushing.  It wasn’t always easy to find enough food, but he persevered. Sometimes he went
without  food himself to feed them. He didn’t mind. He’d just pat his round belly and say, well, I have plenty
here already.

One  day  he  found  an abandoned hut in the woods. He filled it with guests that he fed, watered, and petted.
Some  came and went, though his original few remained. He spent his time caring for those who came his way. By
now he had forgotten he was supposed to remember something. Still, he was content in his life.

Much  to  his surprise, one day he found himself in front of Most High. “Sometimes it helps to get practice in
what you forget,” Most High said. All at once Bobo remembered he was a Buddha. It made him very happy.

“Thank you,” he said. “Now can I go back and take care of my friends?”

Most High smiled and nodded.

Instantly Bobo was back in his hut with all the furred and feathered friends he loved. The only difference was
now he remembered why he was there. And that made him happier than ever.

Light A Candle Today!
In many different traditions lighting a candle is a sacred action. It expresses more than words can express. It has to do with gratefulness. From time immemorial, people have lit candles in sacred places. You may want to begin or end your day by the sacred ritual of lighting a candle on this gratefulness. Or you may want to
light a birthday candle for a friend. One single guideline is all you need: Slow down and do it with full attention.

It happens that the moon appears
More swiftly to return to any sign

Slowly the solemn moon its full orb rears,
And through the skies its lucid influence throws,
Each glittering star ’mid fleecy clouds appears,

Runecast for Wednesday January 26

Our rune today is Berkano of Tyr’s Aett Berkano pronounced “bear-kawn-oh” (B: Berchta, the birch goddess) Birth, general fertility, both mental and physical and personal growth, liberation. Regenerative power and light of spring, renewal, promise of new beginnings, new growth. Arousal of desire. A love affair or new birth. The prospering of an enterprise or venture.

Buds on the trees are opening with the beginning of spring. Cold is dangerous for them. A new beginning needs a careful attitude. Something very new is beginning in your life. The appearance of this rune may correspond to the birth of a child or a crucially important event, or a new job or relationship. This new entity is still very delicate and needs your constant care. Any active and risky action towards it is simply not relevant. You must create the most favorable conditions for this defenseless little shoot to grow, and wait until it becomes stronger. If you try to rely on someone else to do this for you, instead of devoting yourself wholly to it, or if you take it for granted, you will create difficulties for all concerned.

Berkano Reversed or Merkstave: Family problems and or domestic troubles. Anxiety about someone close to you. Carelessness, abandon, loss of control. Blurring of consciousness, deceit, sterility, stagnation. (Note: the reversed or merkstave definitions are included only for reference as they apply to a multi-rune cast and not to a single rune that’s drawn blind from the pouch)

As with all, take only what feels right to you and disregard the rest.

The Cougar

Fitness          Focus          Success

Feel the power, the athleticism, of the cougar.  Feel how your body naturally wants to be trim and strong, healthy and active.   Feel how your spiritual, mental and physical intentions are one and the same, all a balanced part of the full expression of your powerful nature.

The cougar will also bring you abundance, for he will teach you how to go after what you desire and bring it home.  He is a highly successful hunter, able to pursue prey seven times his weight with almost uncanny success.  And he will help you apply this ability to your life, to make the right decisions and choices, all leading to great success and abundance.  No goal is too lofty nor tree too high to climb, for you are the cougar.

The cougar preserves his power for the hunt; he avoids fighting unless his family is threatened.  He will teach you how to focus your energies on what truly counts in your life, not spread yourself too thin, fighting over what is of no real consequence.

Fit and energetic, focused and successful, is the cougar.  And you are the cougar.

Your Morning Coffee – Accept Compliments Gracefully

Accept Compliments Gracefully
by Jane Powell

“Accept praise.”

Sometimes the hardest thing to hear and to accept is a compliment. We tend to be guarded, possibly because we have been hurt by words in the past. We fight the urge to believe the praise; it simply can’t be true.

The truth is compliments should be embraced and welcomed. They’re an intangible gift, a confirmation of a job well done. Others may see great changes happening to you and they want to let you know. Respond with a smile and a simple “thank you.”

You deserve to be flattered, so accept it, and enjoy it!
