Feralia: Day of Purification

Color: White
Element: Air
Altar: On a white cloth put a lit candle, incense, a cup of water, and a bowl of salt.
Offering: Although this day is not a day of total silence, it is a solemn day and talking should be done only when necessary and in quiet tones. Bodies should be thoroughly cleaned during the bathing hour, and then the altar area should be cleaned and purified with all four elements. Each person, upon entering the altar space at the beginning of Sponde should remove their clothing and be naked, and each body should be purified with the four elements and marked with water and salt, at which point they may enrobe again. Chores of the day should concentrate on cleaning and repair.
Daily Meal: Vegan and extremely simple and plain.

Feralia Invocation

Breathe the air into your body
And breathe out again,
And as you breathe out,
Let all grime and corruption
Depart on that breath
(All breathe together for twelve breaths.)
Feel the blood coursing through your body
And imagine it clean
Of anything but what should be there.
Feel the energy coursing through your body
And wash it clean
Of anything that does not belong.
Feel the Earth beneath you,
Remember that She can absorb all
Remember that all rot is her provenance
Draw her energy up into you
And give it back again.

(After this grounding, all breathe together again in a yogic breathing pattern for the next half an hour, after which all will go with water and salt and incense and fire to all rooms in the house and cleanse them. Great care should be taken for the rest of the day not to disturb the energy of the freshly cleaned house.)

Element: Earth
Altar: Set out a brown cloth, an earthenware jug of water, dried stalks of yarrow in a vase, and incense of many woods. In front of the altar set a great empty barrel, an earthen pot of soil, another of the day’s vegetation garbage, a smaller one of wood ashes, and a basket of gathered dried leaves.
Offerings: Bits of hair or fingernail parings.
Daily Meal: Vegetarian.

Let us invest in the Earth
Beneath our feet
And see our returns in millenniums.
Let us say that our main crop
Is the ancient forest
Which we did not plant
And will not live to harvest.
Let us say that the leaves
Are harvested when
They have rotted into the mold.
Let us call that our profit,
And prophesy such returns.
Let us put our faith in the two inches
Of humus that will build
Under the trees every thousand years.
Let us listen to carrion.
Let us put our ears close and hear
The faint chatterings
Of the songs that are yet to come.

Chant:
Clay receives you
Earth has chosen you
Worms prepare you
Earth encloses you

(During the chant, several who have been chosen to do the work of the ritual come forward and add the garbage, the ashes, the soil, the dried leaves, the yarrow, and finally the water to the compost barrel. It is removed again to the corner until Spring.)

Altar: Upon cloth of swirling white, grey, and black place incense, fans, pens, and small pieces of paper. All windows in the House should be opened throughout the night.
Offering: Give your wishes to the winds.
Daily Meal: Raw, cold food.

Invocation to the Wild Winds

This is the Night of Wild Winds!
We have opened ourselves to the still cold waters,
And tonight we open ourselves to their counterpart,
The ever-flying bitter winds that rush
Through all things! Open all the windows,
Let them run through the House,
Let them tear through our hair and our heads,
Let them flay us clean of all impurities!
For on the winds ride the souls of our ancestors,
And the spirits of the Air itself!
Listen to their songs, their whispers,
And learn the wisdom they speak.
Spirits of the Air, Powers of the Winds,
Be with us tonight!
Be with us in our beds,
Be with us in our dreams,
Be with us until the dawn!
Hail, Night of Wild Winds!
May we breathe in your inspiration
And may it blow us through to a new day!

Altar: Set out a black cloth. Decorate gaudily with red flowers, bowls of vegetable-dyed rice and couscous, strings of red beads, sterile needles, and the figure of Kali.
Offerings: A drop of blood, wiped onto the base of Kali’s statue.
Daily Meal: Indian food.

Black Mother of Death
Who drives us around and around
The wheel of birth and endings,
From whose dark womb we are born
And who eats us again at the end,
Lady who tramples the proud Shiva
Under her ruthless feet
Mounts him for her own pleasure

(All approach the altar and kneel. One who has been chosen to do the work of the ritual takes a sterilized needle and pricks the finger of each member present. If they request, a small cut can be made with a sterilized razor, but the worker must be skilled. The blood is wiped onto the statue of Kali and the upper altar cloth, which is never washed. All file out unspeaking; bandaging will be done in another room.)

To Break A Sorcerer’s Curse

To Break A Sorcerer’s Curse

Items You Need:

White candle

Incense

Lucky Rabbit’s Foot

White piece of cotton

 

The Spell:

If you feel that a sorcerer or sorceress has placed a magickal curse upon you, your home or your family, perform this curse-breaking spell just before midnight on the last  night of the Full Moon

Light a new white candle and burn any of the following incense in a fireproof container:  Cloves, frankincense, hyacinth, lilac, pine or sage.

Hold a lucky rabbit’s foot charm over your heart and repeat the following incantation thirteen times:

“With rabbit’s foot and magick verse

I turn around this wicked curse.

As these words of mine are spoken

Let this evil spell be broken.”

Repeat this spell nightly (using a brand-new candle each time) until the phase of the New Moon. Wrap the leftover wax from the candles in a white piece of cotton and then bury it in the ground in a secret spot where it will remain undisturbed.

Altar: Upon cloth of black and gold set a single white candle to burn, with incense of myrrh, and two round-bottomed jugs of water. Before the altar lay the Kistai, the round box of holy objects.
Offerings: Pork and grains.
Daily Meal: Pork and grains.

Hail to those who have come through the dark!
Blessed art thou on Earth who have seen
These mysteries with their own eyes!
Hail to those who have come forth with wisdom
And who no longer fear death and losses!
Let us return the sacred objects to their hiding place,
As Persephone is hidden underground for the next year,
But will always return!
Hail to that which falls, and rises again.
Hail to that which will always give us hope.
Hail to that which is the proof of sacredness.
Hail to the Gods;
May we see them in all things!

(All respond, “Hail to the Gods! May we see them in all things!” At least one new sacred item is added to the box, and it is held high and its story told. Then all seal up the Kistae again, process out of the room, and return it to its hiding place. Two carry the jugs of water, and they are taken outside and placed on the earth, and let fall so that one falls to the east and one to the west, and the flowing out of the water is read as an omen of the coming year and the losses to be had. Then other divination may be done, by any method, for the rest of Hesperis.)
