Product Analysis

Today, we take a look at a well-known product: Moroccanoil brand’s Smoothing Conditioner for hair.

This hair care conditioner claims to condition and detangle while working to smooth and tame unruly and frizzy hair. Moroccanoil® Smoothing Conditioner apparently features the brand’s proprietary AminoRenew™ ingredient, which supposedly restores depleted amino acids to strengthen and align hair’s natural keratin structure. Strands of hair are nourished with antioxidant argan oil and argan butter, leaving it with a healthy-looking, calm, manageable and smooth appearance. When used in combination with Moroccanoil Smoothing Shampoo, results are supposed to last up to 72 hours.

Well, let’s analyze the ingredients of this product and see if their is tuft to their stuff?

Starting with Argan Oil

Native to Morocco, Argan Oil comes from the Argan Tree. This golden-colored oil is extracted from kernels produced by the tree. Coveted for centuries, Argan Oil is highly prized as both a rich gourmet ingredient for betterment of health, as well as an age-old beauty secret. Studies on the ingesting Argan oil reveal the nutty-flavored oil may have heart-health benefits similar to that of olive oil.  As a beauty regime, however, Argan Oil has many benefits. It contains very high levels of Vitamin E and fatty acids, ideal for helping to treat many skin ailments and blemishes.

Argan oil has multiple beauty uses. It can be applied to the face, body, hair and cuticles, and is often added to other products.  It helps to treat split ends, treat acne, dry and irritated skin, and prevent scarring from unwanted blemishes. Argan Oil is also touted as an effective anti-aging product, helping to minimize fine lines and wrinkles.  With so many benefits, it’s no wonder this oil is highly prized and also said to be highly expensive.

Now Moroccan Oil, if you haven’t already guessed, yes, this is Argan Oil too.  The difference here is Moroccan Oil often has additional ingredients already added to it.  These additives can include silicones most often, Aloe Vera, and various other components. Made with Argan oil, Moroccan oil is a lesser pure form of Argan Oil, so if you’re looking for the liquid gold and nothing else, be sure to read the beauty label ingredients. That being said, however, Moroccan Oil still has many of the same great benefits as Argan Oil.  It can help improve the appearance of dry, damaged hair, rough skin, and delivers brilliant shine to any mane. So are there any real downsides to using either?

Due to the limited supply of Argan Oil, the cost for this natural beauty agent is very high, making price a definite factor in many people’s choice to try it.  In addition, the fatty acids found in these oils, while beneficial, can also sometimes cause skin breakouts and acne. This is due to the presence of oleic acid, which can clog pores and cause inflammation.

So, although the name might be slightly confusing in this regard, Moroccanoil’s Smoothing Conditioner containing the key essential oil ingredient Argan Oil can most certainly live up to the hype of giving really great looking hair refreshment.  I would have to say, this product is a definite “thumbs up” in performance for the price due to the quality of their ingredients.

I will be taking the day to do a ritual honoring them and to spend time walking down memory lane. My dad crossed one month before my twelfth birthday. My mom crossed not long after my fifty-seventh birthday. I consider every moment I had with them both in good times and bad to now be precious minutes of my life if only I could have seen it this way when they were still in their just past lifetimes I would have spent more time with them.

I hope through different periods of mediation and/or naps to be able to speak with them again and maybe even find myself a sightseer at another family gathering. I did this on my dad’s birthday in a dream.

What I mean by “sightseer” is seeing my family laughing, playing and enjoying…

A Binding Spell for the Waning Moon

Items You Will Need:
Black thread or Ribbon
Rock, Cork, or wax doll
Black candle
White candle

During a waning moon pick up the item you selected (Rock, Cork, Doll) and focus on all of the things the person you are binding has said or done, focus on the feelings and resulting turmoil, gather it to you then transfer all of that negativity into the object. When you’re sure you’ve gotten it all in begin winding your thread or ribbon tightly around the object. As you wind chant:

As I wind I forever bind,
No more will I feel nor see,
These things which harmed me.

When the object is completely obscured with the thread or ribbon, and you’ve pushed all of the negativity into the object, then chant:

Never more to feel
Never more to harm
Never more!!!

Then throw this item into a body of moving water, or bury it.

This is a predominantly NeoWiccan concept, and is not typically found in non-Wiccan Pagan traditions. You Will Need:
Coffee, tea, soda, caffeine pills, anything with caffeine in it.

In order to focus your caffeine consumption, and thus your extra energy, on a specific goal, do the following:

Take your caffeine pill, coffee, soda, tea, or whatever else and set it in front of you. Hover both of your hands around it, like parentheses: ( item )

Then close your eyes and say a prayer or chant your desire, something like:

I point this energy towards (desire)!

Repeat the prayer, getting louder each time, and then down your source of caffeine.

1⁄2 lemon for each drain and toilet in the home

Cut the lemons in half, crosswise. Squeeze the juice of each piece down a drain or toilet while saying something like:

Return at once from whence you’ve come
I banish you and seal this place
From your invasion to my space
Your spirit’s blocked eternally
As I will, so mote it be

When you’re finished, wet your fingers with the pulp and use them to draw a tiny banishing pentagram on the tops and bottoms of each window frame while saying the same words.

A SPELL FOR IMPROVING NEGATIVE THOUGHTS

Needed tools:

Glass jar

Honey

Sugar

Water

Wooden Popsicle stick

Permanent Marker


Put a mixture of one third honey, water, and sugar in a glass jar with a screw top.


Take wooden Popsicle stick (or equivalent), write the name of the person who is creating
problems through negative thoughts or actions on one side, and the perceived source of
the problem (witches, a particular person, etc.) on the other side.


Place stick in the jar and at least once a day, shake the jar vigorously.


The person who is having negative thoughts will have an improved ability to relate to those
persons or things he didn’t like before. “He’ll have sweet thoughts and won’t know why.”


If this person is someone who is causing you a specific problem, when you shake the jar say:


“Sweet, sweet thoughts of me, you will think, constantly.”

You Will Need:

One onion


Take your onion and wash it in fresh spring water (purchased also from the witches’ friend, the
local supermarket). This spell is best performed during a waxing moon.


Wear earth colors to ground you and, if you wish, burn some sandalwood oil or incense.


By the light of a black candle (black absorbs negativity, remember!) peel your onion at midnight.
As the tears come, take away a layer of the pain you are feeling with each layer of the onion
that you peel away.


Onions represent Mars, which represents war and feelings of angst and anger at our enemies,
so peeling through the onion will open the heart chakra, allowing you to experience the feelings
you have been hanging on to, and layer by layer, release them. This spell is all about not wishing
to get even, or to obsess any longer over those who have harmed you.


After you have peeled your onion, place the peels on a plate (stainless steel or silver) and put
on a window ledge in the kitchen where overnight the moon’s energy will draw away the
negativity banishing it from your environment for good. Complete this simple spell with a long,
languid bath into which you have emptied three handfuls of sea salt.


This will purify, protect, and strengthen you further.


As you lie there, think of how much better you feel now that the desire to get back at
someone has dissipated.

BREAKING UP AN ARGUMENT SPELL

To be done after an argument has occurred between you and a loved one.


Draw two figures on separate sheets of paper-one representing you and the other representing
the other person. Personalize the figures as needed (e.g.. Draw yellow on the head for blond
hair, draw glasses , etc.) Place an unbroken bay leaf on one figure and lay the other figure
face-down on top, creating a sandwich type thing. Say:


“Let the bay leaf take the energy and anger that is between us.”


Separate the figures. Pick up the bay leaf and crumple it in the palm of your hand.
While doing so, say:


” As this leaf is broken and blown away,
Let the anger contained within also break and blow away.”


Place the figures again on top of each other and say,


“Now there is no anger between us.”


Blow the leaf to the wind. Wrap the figures up with a pink ribbon and put in safe place.

Needed:
A rock
Red candle
Lighter
Bed sheet
Barbie or Ken-like doll or pink poppet
A cup
Rubber band
Target’s picture
A pink cloth
Shoe box
Black magick marker

Find a quiet place where you can turn out all the lights and be undisturbed. Get a bed sheet and make a circle out of it by tying the ends together. Take some salt and trace a triangle with the apex to the circle on a flat surface, like card board over carpet. Place a rock at the base of the triangle and place a candle at the apex. Light it and step into the circle. Sit down in it. Take the figure/poppet and fasten his picture to it with a rubber band or place inside the poppet. Hold the figure/poppet.

Trace a unicursal hexagram clockwise beginning in the upper left corner with the cup. Visualize lines, the color pink. Then say this:

“Jupiter, I summon they to aid me in this rite, to empower me with what I need.”

Take the pink cloth and sign your name. Then sign: “Jupiter”. (If you know Automatic Handwriting, have the spirit sign the cloth.) Then take the cloth and wrap the action figure or poppet in it and place it all in the shoe box. Thank the spirit from Jupiter and license it to depart by tracing the hexagram counterclockwise at the same upper left point and say:

“So be it.”

Put the shoe box in a safe place where it will not be disturbed.

Timing: Perform on a Friday during the waxing moon.

Supplies:

6 rose petals
1 teaspoon of lavender
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
a rose quartz
6-inch square of pink cloth
green ribbon (floss or yarn will do)
an inch of red ribbon
needle and thread
a penny

Place the petals, rose quartz, lavender, cinnamon, red ribbon, and penny in the center of the cloth square. Gather the edges of the fabric together and hold the pouch close to your heart. Then say:

“Venus, Queen of love, divine
Bring the love to me that’s mine.
Perfect, he (she) and perfect, me
Together we are meant to be.
Venus, Queen of love, so warm
Bring my love to me, without harm.
Let nothing keep us now apart,
Bring perfect love to fill my heart.”

Still holding the pouch against your heart, fill it with loving energy. Secure the pouch with the green ribbon to seal the spell. Carry it on your person and sleep with it under your pillow. When the lover comes to you, bury the pouch under a tree.

Adoration Candle Magick Love Spell

On your altar, place two red candles at either end. Before doing this, rub the two candles with rose essential oil.

Again, on Friday, the day of the week devoted to the Goddess Aphrodite, perform this task to attract your beloved.

Write your name on one candle, and your beloved’s on the other. If you do not know his or her name, simply write “my beloved” or “my true love”.

Again try to use language that will ensure positive magic. If you simply write “handsome” you may well end up with someone gorgeous, but who is harmful for you in some other way.

Each evening at seven, light the candles and move them slightly closer together.

Carve into your candle a word of special significance to you, perhaps taken from your insights when you performed the wishful thinking task. Perhaps the word “devoted” should be carved into your beloved’s candle.

On your own, write the same. Meditate on this quality for several minutes, then snuff out the candles. Repeat this for seven nights, using a different quality each time, until on the seventh, the following Friday, both candles are finally standing as close together as possible.

Light them and let them burn down and out. If any wax remains, scatter it before you as you walk through a beautiful place, wishing it to bring good fortune to others hoping for love.

You will need a pink ribbon, a mirror, some honey, pen, paper, and a candle.
Burn some sweet smelling incense…heather or violet is perfect for this. Pass the ribbon through the smoke three times saying:

“Ribbon be thou the bearer of love. Ribbon be thou the bearer of happiness.”

Now put a dab of honey on the ribbon and then on your tongue. As you taste the honey, say:

“Honey, bring me the sweetness of love.”

Repeat three times. Now hold up the mirror and look into it. See yourself reflected there. Now say this three times:

“I am Goddess and Goddess is me. She is beautiful. So Mote It Be.”

Now dab a bit of honey on the candle and wrap the ribbon around it. Hold it between your hands as you say (again three times)

“From ribbon to candle
The magic shall go
From candle to astral
The flame makes it so.”

Remove the ribbon and light the candle. Let the candle burn down. While it is burning you will be writing what you want in a partner on a piece of paper. Be specific…say “likes kittens but hates frogs” if that is what you want. Don’t specify any person. It will backfire badly.


When you have finished your list (and you can make mistakes and scratch out or start over), fold the list three times. Tie it up with the pink ribbon. Snuff out the candle if it is still burning. Put the list between your mattress and your box springs.


Each night for the next week you must look at yourself in the mirror and repeat the mirror charm.

“I am Goddess and Goddess is me. She is beautiful. So Mote It Be.”

At the end of the week, you can stop the mirror charm or continue it. That is your choice. Your spell will bring you love within 7 weeks.

Hang up a bell with a pleasant ring in a window which remains open for a good part of each day, and through which the wind blows (preferable the West wind).

As you do so, speak these words:

“Little bell of love,
I hang you to whisper my need for love on the breezes and winds.

Speak of my need for love to your brothers and sisters.
Little bell of love,
I ask you to speak softly and draw to me someone who listens.”

Every time the bell rings, it is “whispering” of your need for love.

Place a jewel, that you regularly carry on you, in a cup of spring water a day before the full moon. The following day, on the evening of full moon, stir the water three times with your finger in a clockwise motion. Take the cup in your hands and in a clockwise, stirring motion, move the cup in a clockwise, circular, stirring motion three times.

Then, repeat these words aloud:

O LIGHT OF THE MOON,
WRAP ME,
PROTECT ME,
KEEP ME FROM HARM.

Raise the cup towards the sky and drink the water. Remove the jewel from the cup. You must carry it on your person to the next full moon in order to ensure your protection.

Repeat this ritual every month to benefit from its influence.

Fill your cauldron half full of water and drop a silver coin into it. Position the cauldron so that the light from the moon shines into the water. Gently sweep your hands just above the surface, symbolically gathering the Moon’s silver.

While doing this say…

wealth right soon. Fill my hands with silver
and gold. All you give, my purse can hold.”

Repeat this three times. When finished, pour the water upon the earth.

To bless your home or business, place a bowl of candy, herbs or stones by your front entrance. Bless then bowl’s contents by speaking aloud the following verse:
   

“As all who enter here are Children of the Great Mother,
May those who pass always walk safely in her steps.
May they feel the guidance of her hand,
And know she is always with us,
From the time we meet till we meet again.”

Invite visitors to take an offering as they enter the premises.

Include small slips of paper, a cauldron for burning, a quill pen and dragon’s blood ink

Call the Quarters and cast the Circle.

At completion, HPS moves to altar and says:

The circle is cast. Feel how the energies have changed. We are between the worlds, now. This is a time that is no time; a place that is no place. Blessed be.

HPS says:

The Charge of the Goddess says, Whenever you have need of anything, once in the month, and better it be when the moon is full, then ye shall assemble in some secret place and adore the spirit of me, who am Queen of all Witcheries.

The Moon is full, and we are assembled here to ____________ (state in detail a need of a group member, absent or present, and why magickal intervention is needed and appropriate).

Each of us will write a wish as we would have it done for ____________ (name of person). Always remember the Rede and the Law of Three.

After all have written, we will release the wishes into the universe by burning them.

Keep silence now and enter into a time of meditation and consider your wish for __________ (name of person).

When all have finished meditating and writing, each person should offer the wish to each quarter (with appropriate wording of her/his choice), starting with East and moving deosil. Then move to the altar and light the paper from the Goddess Candle and drop it in the cauldron saying:

With this flame and smoke I release this wish to the winds of time, that my request be fulfilled.
So Mote it Be.

Chant should continue until last person burns her/his wish. The chant should be about strengthening each person’s wish.

HPS says:

The cakes and the ale are outward symbols, sacraments, of our inward relationship with the Goddess and the God. With these small offerings, we honor both Goddess and God.

We of the Craft believe that our words and our actions shape reality. Tonight, we have called upon the power of Goddess and God to _____________ (re-state what and why we just did).

As we have willed it, so mote it be. Let us honor the gods and remember our tie to them.

Items Needed:
A clear glass bowl
One bottle of Spring water
Silver paint
One sprig of jasmine
One moonstone
One white pillar candle
Gardenia incense and oil

Inscribe the symbol(moon symbol with crossed spears on it) on the outside side bottom of the bowl with the silver paint.

Set your altar or small table so the light of the full moon will shine directly on it. Fill the bowl with the spring water. Place the bowl and all the other items called for on the altar. Light the white pillar candle and say:

Lady I now invite thee here,
As the Mother of sacred Earth.
Whose power is beyond compare,
When dreams are given birth.

Hold the moonstone and sprig of Jasmine in offering as you ask this blessing:

Lady of desire, reflection of light,
You are my motion, direction, and second sight.
Mother of creation the original source,
You are potential, power, the ultimate force.
Grandmother of time, wise one from above,
I summon thee here with honor and love.

Gently place the moonstone and sprig of jasmine in the water. Pick up the bowl and hold it in offering to the moon as you say:

I call the brilliant evening star,
The Virgin of celestial light.
The Gracious Goddess from afar,
Great Mother of second sight.

Glorious Queen of the twilight hour,
Wise and vigilant protector.
Thou whose silent power,
Is regal and most splendor.
I beckon thee to now descend,
Great Mystery behind the veil.
She who rises time and again,
The keeper of the Grail.

Set the bowl down. Anoint your forehead with a drop of water. Allow the candle to burn for one hour and then extinguish it. Carefully place the bowl in a window where the light of the moon will continue to shine on it. Just before sunrise, remove the jasmine and stone. Pour the contents of the bowl into a bottle with a lid, and close tightly. Keep the moonstone with your other magickal tools. Take the jasmine to the nearest river or lake and toss it in the water as you make a wish. Use the moon water to anoint candles and other magickal objects.
