Tarot Card of the Day for March 27th is The Magician

Tarot Card of the Day

The Magician

Traditionally, The Magician is one who can demonstrate hands-on magic — as in healing, transformative rituals, alchemical transmutations, charging of talismans, and the like. A modern Magician is any person who completes the circuit between heaven and Earth; one who seeks to bring forth the divine gold within her or himself.

At the birth of Tarot, even a gifted healer who was not an ordained clergyman was considered to be in league with The Devil! For obvious reasons, the line between fooling the eye with sleight of hand and charging the world with magical will, was not clearly differentiated in the early Tarot cards.

Waite’s image of The Magician as the solitary ritualist communing with the spirits of the elements — with its formal arrangement of symbols — is a token of the freedom we have in modern times to declare our spiritual politics without fear of reprisal. The older cards were never so explicit about what The Magician was doing. It’s best to keep your imagination open with this card. Visualize yourself manifesting something unique, guided by evolutionary forces that emerge spontaneously from within your soul.

If You Were Born Today, March 27

If You Were Born Today, March 27

You are self-willed and sometimes forceful or blunt in your expression. In some ways, you are a go-getter and certainly ahead of your time. Your manner tends to command respect but also hides a sensitive and reflective nature. For the most part, you need to work under your own direction. As determined and independent as you are, you very often put loved ones’ needs first. Famous people born today: Mariah Carey, Gloria Swanson, Nathan Fillion, Stacey Ferguson, Quentin Tarantino.

Your Birthday Year Forecast

With the Sun and Moon in harmony in your Solar Return chart, the year ahead should be satisfying and balanced overall. You are in comfortable demand and personally popular, and you are able to achieve a decent balance between work and play; personal and professional life. For the most part, you are on top of your game this year, and positive connections with others can be made fairly easily. With the ability to handle your emotions successfully, there is less stress on both your mind and body. Your self-confidence and positive attitude will reward you!

Saturn transits square to your Sun until November 2018, and this can encourage you to straighten out neglected areas of your life. You’ll be working hard at disciplining yourself. You are likely to have new or increased responsibilities, and it might take some time to get adjusted to them. The need to re-structure and re-organize your life will be apparent at some point during this period. Much can be accomplished. Although you may not always see immediate results for your efforts, important groundwork can be laid for the future.

The year ahead can be an ambitious time and a supportive period for reaching your goals. You might solve a long-standing problem, or capitalize upon a resource that was previously hidden.

This is an excellent year in which to advance projects revolving around communications – writing, speaking, selling, and so forth. Your reputation may be enhanced through word of mouth. Making new contacts through learning and mental pursuits figures strongly as well.

With Mars conjunct Saturn in your Solar Return chart, you are more determined and hard-working than usual. This is an excellent time to get organized and to stick with projects through to the end. When you face obstacles to your goals, which is a likely scenario this year, you are likely to just keep on pushing. Progress may be slow, but it’s steady and solid. What you accomplish now will benefit you for years to come. You may be called to task for a responsibility that you’ve avoided in the past.

Connecting with like-minded people is likely but also with people who have new perspectives to share. It’s a particularly powerful year for friendships that are often sudden or exciting, social affairs, and artistic work. Whirlwind changes in your love life and/or financial state are possible. It may be that you experience sudden changes or breakups with a friend or lover. However, the chance of a sudden new friendship is just as likely. At the root of this is a stronger taste for the unusual. What is familiar is less exciting to you than what is new and different. If a relationship seems to threaten your sense of freedom, you may have an easy time separating from it. Some fireworks in both your social and financial lives are expected.

Jupiter forms a trine to your Sun in November and December, and you have a stronger than usual desire to improve, grow, and learn. This is a fortunate aspect that helps boost optimism and confidence, and you are able to attract fortunate circumstances into your life as a result. Problems are easier to resolve. Matters related to universities, higher education, religion, publishing, legal affairs, and/or foreign interests can be especially strong. It’s an excellent time to further your education. You are likely to enjoy a larger perspective on matters that keeps you from getting lost in details or overly frustrated by everyday stresses during the course of the month.

This is a year for solving problems and getting your life in order in significant ways. You receive plenty of cosmic support for making big improvements or lifestyle changes, although hard work is necessary. This can be a wonderful time for meeting new people or more thoroughly enjoying your current friendships.

2018 is a Number Five year for you. Ruled by Mercury. This is a year of discovery and freedom. It’s a time when exploration and reaching out to others brings opportunities. It’s a good time to advertise, promote, and sell. Surprises are in store, and the routine is broken for the better. This is a year when exciting relationships can be formed; or, if you are already in a partnership, new life is breathed into the relationship. Advice – explore, look for adventure, keep your eyes open for opportunities, diversify, mingle.

2019 will be a Number Six year for you. Ruled by Venus. This is a year of relative contentment. It’s a time when love is the easiest to attract, and partnerships formed under this vibration have a better chance for longevity. You are especially able to attract others–and material things as well–this year. This is a good year for establishing harmony in the family and in the home. Advice – develop existing relationships, be positive and receptive because these kinds of energies help you to attract what you desire.

Is It Love? Here’s How You Can Tell

Is It Love? Here’s How You Can Tell

Discover the covert clues that signal when a Sun sign likes you

Content authored by Kim Rogers-Gallagher

Affection looks different depending on your expectations. If you’re expecting cuddles and chocolates, you’ll be disappointed if you’re with an Aquarius. However, even the Water-bearer has its own way of expressing warmth.Follow these astrological clues to figure out if the person you’re with is “showing the love.”

.

Aries (March 21 – April 19)

How to tell if an Aries likes you

Regardless of age or gender, there’s one absolutely infallible way to know if an Aries loves you: they’ll pick a fight. Not a physical fight, of course, but a playful war of words, designed to simultaneously flirt and test your mettle. Aries was the ancient God of War — so, far more than romance, they want a worthy opponent. They also want to count on someone to have their back. Banter, fight back, and play practical jokes on them. Keeping up is tiring, but totally worth it.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20)

How to tell if a Taurus likes you

Taureans express love the way they do everything else — slowly and thoroughly — so they won’t say the words you’re longing to hear until they feel the time is right. Be patient. If you need reassurance, pay attention to their actions. The wining and dining, the sincere compliments, the unswerving reliability … oh, and the gifts! A thoughtful gift given simply because it reminded them of you, or because they knew you’d enjoy it, or even “just because.” Obviously, you must have been very good this year.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20)

How to tell if a Gemini likes you

They’re always funny, but you’ll know they’ve got it for you — and bad — when they’ve gone out of their way to make you laugh. They’ll hang around a lot, too, regaling you with all kinds of trivia. If you’re coworkers and they get in trouble for devoting too much time impressing you, they won’t stop — they’ll just quit. The only thing that will stop them is if you tell them to. But why would you do that? How many people do you know who have their very own charming, brilliant stand-up comedian?

Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

How to tell if a Cancer likes you

Stop wondering if the Cancer you’re attracted to — okay, madly in love with — feels the same. Find out by carefully watching for the following rock-solid, classic astrological indicators. First, they’ll cook or bake for you. Of course, they love their kitchens, so a frosted Bundt cake won’t tell you what you want to know. The flowers and compliments, however, indicate the next stage for the two of you, followed by an evening at their place, poring over scrapbooks … an extremely good sign. The clincher? When they not only worry about you, but actually mention it.

Leo (July 23 – Aug. 22)

How to tell if a Leo likes you

Ever since they tossed you “the eyes” from across the room, which was also the first time you tossed a pretty serious glance right back, you knew the game was on. The thing is, you’re quite smitten, you don’t want it to be just a game, and they’re notorious flirts. So how do you know whether they love you or you’re just their flavor of the month? It’s simple. Their schedule will suddenly be wide open, including lunch, dinner, and even entire weekends. Break a leg, huh?

Virgo (Aug. 23 – Sept. 22)

How to tell if a Virgo likes you

Want to call one of these meticulous creatures your own? Great, but you’d better get your stuff together, because if you don’t, they will. You’ll find them at your place some afternoon, happily alphabetizing your movies or arranging your books by height on the shelves of your freshly waxed entertainment center. Virgos show their love by creating clean, organized environments for those they love because they believe you deserve it. It’s a tremendous compliment, so don’t dare get territorial. Kiss them, thank them, and help them finish.

Libra (Sept. 23 – Oct. 22)

How to tell if a Libra likes you

Rather than trying to decide whether that lovely Libra is attracted to you, watch them with others. They’re always nice, especially when they’re chatting one-on-one, but that’s their nature. And while we’re on the subject, if you get jealous easily, choose another sign. Seriously. Immediately. Anyway, once you’ve seen them with others, you’ll recognize them being even nicer with you — and that’s how you’ll know they’re in love. The surefire way to tell? They’ll create a pet name for you, and only use your real name for official matters or arguments.

Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21)

How to tell if a Scorpio likes you

You’ll only pick up on your first clue if you’re naturally perceptive — and you’d better be if you want to keep a Scorpio interested. They’ll watch you intently, for long periods of time. They won’t stare at you directly, though. That would be far too obvious, and these intriguing creatures are born equal parts detective and analyst, which is why you’re so fascinated, right? The absolute dead giveaway will be when you realize their eyes are on you, via reflections: mirrors, sliding glass doors, large windows. That’s when you’ll get the message.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21)

How to tell if a Sagittarius likes you

If a Sagittarius loves you, it’s because you’ve learned to hold on with an open hand. You’ll know you’ve succeeded when they call (almost) every day, but more so when you’re invited to travel with them. It doesn’t matter if it’s a weekend at a bed and breakfast or a plane ticket for a week in Rome. Either way, it’s the brass ring. Don’t be surprised if it takes a while, though. Freedom is important to Archers, almost as important as choosing the right travel partner.

Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 19)

How to tell if a Capricorn likes you

Rules, regulations, and doing things the way they’re supposed to be done … that’s what Capricorn is all about, so if they’re happily attached, they’re all the way in it. When they’re devoted, they’re impossible to distract. If they’re single, get busy proving yourself to be a worthy partner. You won’t have to do that forever, though. Once they get to know you — or “interviewed you,” so to speak — and have decide you’re worth your salt, you’ll know it. They’ll make their love clear with a serious conversation — and you’ll know that they’re not kidding. When and if they say it, lucky you!

Aquarius (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18)

How to tell if an Aquarius likes you

They’ll show their affection by studiously scanning your shoulder, back, or other part of your body and suggesting what type of tattoo, stud, or ring would look really good there. If you weren’t the type to consider agreeing, you wouldn’t want them, but you are, so you do. When they take you to the tattoo or piercing shop themselves and closely scrutinize the artist, you’ll absolutely know they care. But when they ask you to go to a Renaissance fair with them, dressed in period garb that they provide, that’s it. They’re definitely in love.

Pisces (Feb. 19 – March 20)

How to tell if a Pisces likes you

Pisces tends to be more than a tad on the shy side — some of them more than others. So if you’re waiting for them to make the first move and they’re one of the especially shy types, you may end up watching your nails grow. Like all the Water signs, you need to watch them to see if they care. The one and only tip you’ll ever need: If a Pisces loves you, they may find it tough to speak at all at first. But once they get to know you, they’ll be chattier than any Gemini you’ve ever met.

Famous Witches Throughout History: Mother Shipton

Mother Shipton

(c.1488 – 1561)

Mother Shipton was a 16th Century English soothsayer, prophetess and supposed witch who is said to have made dozens of unusually accurate predictions, including the Great Plague of London, the Spanish Armada and the Great Fire of London. Many of the more colourful details of her life (such as her birth in a cave in Knaresborough and her hideous appearance) were later admitted to have been fabricated by Richard Head, the editor of a book of her prophecies published forty years after her death.

Mother Shipton was born Ursula Southeil (or possibly Sontheil) the daughter of the 16-year old suspected witch Agatha Southeil (or Sontheil) in 1488 (or possibly 1486). She was reputedly born grotesquely deformed and hideously ugly, but was nevertheless taken in by a kindly townswoman. Her head was too large, her “goggling” eyes glowed like embers, her cheeks were sunken, her limbs were twisted and ill-formed, and she was born with a full set of teeth which protruded like the tusks of a boar. According to local accounts was referred to as “Hag-Face” and “Devils Bastard” as she grew up, and it was believed by many that the father of such an ugly child must be the Devil himself. Some of the accounts of “strange and terrible noises” or a great crack of thunder and a pungent smell of brimstone at the moment of Ursula’s birth are probably later fabrications to fit in with the fanciful notion that the Devil had been the child’s father.

Fanciful tales grew up around her of strange events which were said to have plagued the cottage as she grew up. The furniture would mysteriously rearrange itself, plates be flung about, and food vanish before the eyes of astonished mealtime guests. It is said that when pushed beyond the limits of her notoriously limited patience, she would send goblins (or even dragons) to put some of her tormentors to flight. On one occasion, warned that her activities might lead to her being burnt as a witch, she supposedly put her wooden staff in the fire and, when the flames had no effect on it, said: “If this had been burned, I might have too’.

However, neither her growing reputation as a witch nor her appearance (which apparently worsened as she grew up) deterred a York carpenter and builder Toby Shipton from marrying her in 1512 (the inevitable tale developed that she had used a love-potion to bewitch her hapless suitor). Although they remained childless, their relationship was described as “very comfortable”.

Mother Shipton was credited with powers of clairvoyance and through the centuries her predictions, originally passed down by word of mouth, were held in the same high regard as those of her near contemporary, Nostradamus. Her early forecasts were to do with local people and events, and people travelled to Knaresborough from some distance around to consult her. She was particularly successful in solving the sort of commonplace interpersonal disputes, and it was recorded that thieves would publicly return stolen goods (apologizing to the astonished owners for their sin), wandering husbands would beg forgiveness and mend their ways, and corrupt officials would make spontaneous acts of restitution.

But, as time passed, her prophecies became more ambitious and began to relate to the country as a whole, including prominent figures at the court of Henry VIII. For example, she predicted that Cardinal Wolsey (the “Mitred Peacock”) would see York, but never reach it, and in 1530, after falling out of favour with the King, Wolsey set out to find refuge in the north and was within sight of York when Lord Percy arrived with a Royal Summons demanding he return to London to face a charge of high treason.

Her reputation has been kept alive by her foretelling of events in the more distant future: the execution of Mary Queen of Scots, the accession of Lady Jane Grey, Drake’s defeat of the Spanish Armada, the Great Plague of 1665 and, perhaps most famously, the Great Fire of London of 1666. It is claimed that some of her prophetical verses foretold iron ships, motor transport, submarines, aircraft and perhaps even the Internet (‘around the world thoughts shall fly in the twinkling of an eye’). One of the most famous examples of Mother Shipton’s prophecies, which apparently foretells many aspects common to modern civilization and predicts the end of the world in 1881, is now known to be a 19th Century forgery, which did not appear in print until 1862.

Many people now accept that the figure of Mother Shipton is largely a myth, and that the majority of her prophecies were composed by others in retrospect, after her death. The most notable book of her prophecies, edited by Richard Head, was first published in 1684, and Head later admitted to having invented almost all of Shipton’s biographical details.

Mother Shipton died in 1561 (or 1567), and is said to have been buried in unconsecrated ground somewhere on the outskirts of York, possibly at Clifton. Despite the disproofs of many of her prophesies, she was both feared and revered in her own time, and has been remembered by many over the centuries as England’s greatest prophetess.

Mother Shipton Prophecy

Are these the End Times?
A Woman’s Uncanny Prophecy (500 Years Old)

A witch? A satanist? Possessed? Gifted? Used of God? Whatever you say, the evidence certainly suggests Mother Shipton was the closest thing to a prophetess that England had for unnumbered generations. Of her lfe we know some, not much. Mother Shipton, sometimes called “the Yorkshire Sybil” was reputedly born Ursula Sontheil (or Southill) in 1488 in Norfolk, England (supposedly in the cave of Knaresborough), and died in 1561, burnt, we are told, at the stake. Her mother Agatha was well known for her exceptional powers. Ursula, too, exhibited prophetic and psychic abilities from an early age. At 24, married to one Toby Shipton, she eventually became known as Mother Shipton. Many of her visions came true within her own lifetime and in subsequent centuries. I first learned of her through an old time holy roller preacher, Bishop Whitlock, in Lewiston, California. But with all the Y2K hoopla, her fame seems enigmatically to be spreading. These rare verses from Mother Shipton seem to have prophetic indications for our times, and while open to interpretation, they show this woman to have been uncannily prescient.

“This was given to Laurent under the Tree in Athens, Georgia by Tim Mills in October, 1944. From an article in the Banner-Herald, Athens, GA Monday, May 23, 1938:

We are in receipt of an alleged prophecy written five hundred years ago by Mother Shipton and vouched for by J.H. Phillips, of Ashdown, Arkansas.
Many of the prophecies have come true and on the suggestion of the owner of the copy of the prophecy, we are giving space to its publication.”

A Prophecy from half a millenium ago –

So timely it’s almost spooky.
Some people seem to believe the prophetic age passed with the Age of the Apostles (only to return with the Age of Aquarius?) Here is a prophecy written 500 years ago by a woman. Read and see if you can suggest how she could have improved it if she had written it this month. Before reading it, please undertake to transport yourself back across five centuries and live when there were no steamships, no steam railways, no sewing machines, no cook stoves, no radios, no automobiles, no flying machines, no submarines, and none of the many other inventions so common today.
Now, you back there, sitting alone in your quaint old fashioned dwelling, READ this poem AND SEE if you do not think she had a real vision of the future happenings of the world. – J.H. Phillips, Ashdown AR.

[Bob Shepherd notes] Mother Shipton was born in [not Norfolk, but north Yorkshire) England and died in Clifton, Yorkshire, apparently in 1561. If true, her death was by execution — burnt (as a `Witch`) — at the stake.

Phillip Coppens attempts to revise (or update a revision or an earlier revision) of the canonical “received” view of the Shipton (witch) story. To separate history from legend is still a daunting task, or even to decipher the whys and hows of so many unexplained (and uncannily accurate) predictions. Were her powers from the devil? Alas, she paid a price, first in ostracism and official threats and persecutions. Those days were still the era of the infamous Malleus Maleficarum, the hammer of witches. (more) Inquisitions, both official and otherwise, or sometimes just local zealots … did not hesitate to burn non-conformists (or even just trouble-maker women) at the stake — as Mother Shipton apparently learned first-hand. Is there a moral to the story? For one thing, Well-behaved Women Seldom Make History.

Mother Shipton Prophecy

[Archaic spelling has been modernized]
A carriage without horse shall go;
Disasters fill the world with woe.
In London, Primrose Hill shall be,
Its centre hold a Bishop’s See.
Around the world men’s thoughts shall fly
Quick as the twinkling of an eye
And waters shall great wonders do,
How strange, and yet it shall come true.

Then upside down the world shall be,
And gold found at the root of tree;
Through towering hill proud men shall ride,
No horse nor ass move at his side.
Beneath the waters men shall walk;
Shall ride, shall sleep and even talk.
And in the air men shall be seen,
In white and black and even green.
A great man then shall come and go,
For prophecy declares it so.

In water iron then shall float
As easy as a wooden boat,
Gold shall be found in stream or stone,
In land that is as yet unknown.
Water and fire shall wonders do,
And England shall admit a Jew.

The Jew that once was held in scorn,
Shall of a Christian then be born. [borne?]
A house of glass shall come to pass
In ENGLAND – but alas!
A war will follow with the work,
Where dwells the pagan and the Turk.
The states will lock in fiercest strife
And seek to take each other’s life.
When North shall thus divide South
The eagle build in lion’s mouth.
Then tax and blood and cruel war
Shall come to every humble door.

Three times shall lovely sunny France
Be lead to play a lovely dance,
Before the people shall be free.
The tyrant rulers shall she see.
Three rulers in succession be,
Each sprang from different dynasty.

Then, when fiercest fight is done
England and France shall be as one.
The British olive next shall twine
In marriage with the German vine.
Men walk beneath and over streams
Fulfilled shall be our strangest dreams.

All England’s sons that plough the land –
Shall oft be seen with Book in hand.
The poor shall then True Wisdom know
And waters, wind, where corn did grow.
Great houses stand in farflung vale,
All covered o’er with snow and hail.

And now a word in uncouth rhyme
Of what shall be in future time,
For in the wondrous far off days,
The women shall adopt a craze
To dress like men and trousers wear
And cut off their lovely locks of hair.
They’ll ride astride with brazen brow
As witches on a broomstick now
Then love shall die and marriage cease,
And nations wane as births decrease.
The wives shall fondle cats and dogs
And men live much the same as hogs.

In nineteen-hundred twentysix
Build houses light of straw and sticks,

And roaring monsters with man atop
Do seem to eat the verdant crop.
And men shall fly as birds do now,
And give away the horse and plough.
When pictures live with movements free,
When boats like fishes swim the sea,
When men like birds shall scour the sky
Then half the world, blood drenched shall die.

For then shall mighty war be planned
And fire and sword sweep the land.
But those who live the century through
In fear and trembling this will do;
Flee to the mountains and the dens
To bog and forest and wild fens
For storms shall rage and oceans roar,
When Gabriel stands on sea and shore
And when he blows his horn
Old worlds shall die and new be born.

Magickal Days of the Week – Tuesday

Named for the Norse god Tyr, who was a deity of heroism and combat, Tuesday is a very martial sort of day – color associations include bright red and oranges, as well as warrior-like metals such as iron and steel.

The ancient Romans called this day Martis, after the warrior god Mars – other deities associated with Tuesday include Ares, the Morrighan, and other gods of battle and glory. Red gemstones like rubies and garnets come into play on Tuesdays, as do herbs and plants such as thistles, holly, coneflowers and cacti – you’ll notice these are all sharp, prickly plants!

One of the interesting – and more than a little amusing – aspects of Tuesday magic is that in addition to war and conflict against your enemies, this is a day also associated with marriage. You can also use this day of the week for magical workings connected to protection and initiation. Use Tuesday to assert yourself, make a mark and stake your claims.

Smell the Breeze Day (Egypt)
NUT

Themes: Air, Health

Symbols: A Pot; Turquoise; Musk; a Star; Wind; Cow Images

About Nut: This great Egyptian sky goddess bears a star-spangled belly that stretches over the earth like a protective atmosphere. Today she breaths on us with a late-March zephyr bearing health and well-being.

Legend tells us that when Ra went to escape the earth, Nut offered her aid by becoming a huge cow who lifted him into heaven. Wen Nut found herself dizzy from the effort, four gods rushed to her aid. They later became the four pillars of creation—the four winds.

To Do Today: If the weather permits, I highly recommend a brish, refreshing walk. Breathe deeply of the air, which has rejuvenating, healthy energies today. As you exhale, repeat the goddess’s name, Nut, and listen as she responds in the breeze.

Any type of wind magick honors Nut, and it is certainly fitting today. If the wind blows from the west, sprinkle water into it for emotional healing. If it blows from the east, toss a feather out so it can return to you with healthy outlooks. If it blows from the north, sift a little soil into the wind to give fruitful foundations to a generating idea, and if it blows from the south, burn musk incense to manifest vital energy and a little passion.

Tuesday–The Day of Tiu

Tuesday is the first day of the week which is named after a god of the Angles and Saxons–Tiu, the God of War. The Angles and Saxons, like the Greeks and Romans, worshiped many gods, and though these gods were in a great number of ways similar to those of the Greeks and Romans, we also find very great differences. These differences are due to the fact that the Angles and Saxons lived in a very different kind of country, led a very different kind of life, and consequently had different ideas. Their chief enemies were frost and cold, and they imagined the freezing winds to be caused by frost-giants who lived in a land of ice and waged continual warfare with the gods who befriended man and protected him as far as they could against the frost-giants and all the suffering which they caused. The chief of these gods was Woden or Odin, the All-father, of whom we read in the following chapter, and next to him in importance came Thor, the God of Thunder, the bitterest enemy of the giants. The god after whom Tuesday is named was known as Tiu among the Angles and Saxons, and as Tyr among the Norsemen. He was the God of War, and corresponds to Mars among the Romans, whose name for this day was Dies Martis, the day of Mars. The French have kept the Roman name in the form mardi.

Tiu was a great fighter and knew no fear, and was naturally always called upon in time of battle. He was usually represented as having no right hand, owing to a misfortune which befell him in the following way. From his lofty throne Odin, the chief of the gods, one day saw in the land of the giants three terrible monsters, which grew so rapidly that he was filled with fear lest they should invade the home of the gods. Accordingly he determined to get rid of them before they became any stronger. One Hel, an enormous giantess, he flung into the Underworld, where, as the Goddess of Death, she ruled over the kingdom of the dead. Another, Iormungandr, a serpent, he cast into the sea, where it grew so huge that it encircled the whole earth. The third was Fenrir, a wolf, whom Odin brought to Asgard, the home of the gods, hoping that he might eventually tame him. Fenrir, however, grew stronger and fiercer each day, until the gods, of whom Tiu alone was brave enough to go near him, decided at last to bind him in such a way that he could do no harm. A very strong chain was obtained, and the gods suggested to Fenrir, who often boasted of his great strength, that he should allow himself to be bound with it in order to prove whether he was really as strong as he claimed to be. Fenrir agreed, and then by merely stretching himself easily brohe his bonds. Again the gods put him to the test with a still stronger chain, but as before he succeeded in breaking it. Seeing that no ordinary chain would be strong enough to bind Fenrir, the gods sent one of their servants to the home of the dwarfs, a race of little people who lived underground, and who were very clever workers in metal. They also possessed great powers of magic, as we shall see in a later story. At the bidding of the gods, the dwarfs made a silken rope out of the voice of fishes, a woman’s beard, the roots of a mountain, and the footsteps of a cat, which was so strong that no power could break it! A third time the gods challenged Fenrir to show his strength by allowing himself to be bound with this new cord, but Fenrir became suspicious, and at last consented only on condition that one of the gods should put his hand in his mouth, and hold it there as a pledge that the gods were not deceiving him. This condition greatly alarmed the gods, who began to fear that their trick was not going to succeed, but the bold war-god Tiu stepped forward and, without any hesitation, placed his right hand in the wolf’s mouth. The gods at once bound Fenrir with the magic cord made by the dwarfs, and, in spite of all his struggles, the wolf was unable to free himself. Great was the delight of the gods at their success, a delight shared by all but Tiu, who had little cause to be pleased with the result of the trick, for Fenrir, finding he was trapped, immediately bit off the hand of the god. Thus Tiu was deprived of his sword hand, but so clever was he that he wielded his sword equally well with his left hand, and still remained invincible in battle.

On one occasion Tiu and Thor, the God of Thunder, set out for the land of the giants to obtain an enormous kettle, which the gods required for a feast. They came at last to the home of a giant, Hymir, who possessed a kettle a mile deep and a mile wide, and were hospitably received by the giant’s wife. When she learned the errand on which they had come, she warned them that her husband was very fierce and hot-tempered, and advised them to hide themselves when Hymir returned, lest he should kill them with a glance. No sooner had the gods taken refuge behind some kettles, which were kept on a beam at the end of the hall, than Hymir came in. When he heard that visitors had called, he flashed his eyes round the hall so fiercely that, as his glance lighted on the gods’ hiding-place, the beam split in two, the kettles came crashing to the ground, and Tiu and Thor were discovered. Hymir, however, was persuaded by his wife to receive the gods kindly; he prepared a meal of three oxen in their honour, but was astonished and dismayed to see Thor eat two of them himself. The next day the gods gave the giant many proofs of their great strength and skill, and Hymir consented to give them the kettle they were seeking. Tiu at once tried to lift it but failed; then Thor, after a mighty struggle, raised it from the ground, and, as he gave the final pull, his feet broke through the floor of the giant’s house. As soon as the gods had departed, Thor carrying the kettle on his head, Hymir called his brothers together, and pursued after them. Thor, however, attacked them with his famous hammer, and killed them one by one. Tiu and Thor then continued their journey, and brought the huge kettle safely to their own land.

There are few stories told of Tiu, yet he held a high place among the gods, as the name Tuesday shows. He is most famous for his share in the binding of Fenrir, whereby was put off the dreaded Ragnarok, the day of the final battle between the gods and the giants.

The Witches’ Tuesday

Ruler: Mars

Colors: Red, rose or scarlet

Power Hours: Sunrise, and the eighth, sixteenth and twenty-fourth hours following

Keywords: Business, sex, hunting, energy

A god, goddess or planet governs each day of the week. It is usually easy to spot the ruled of the day by its name. The word Tuesday, however, is not so easy, but if we look at the word in Spanish, Martes, we clearly see it connections to Mars.

On Tuesdays the hour of sunrise and every eight hours after that are also ruled by Mars, and that makes these times of the day doubly blessed. The four hours are the strongest one to do ritual in. Check your local newspaper, astrological calendar or almanac to determine your local sunrise.

Witchery, Magick and Enchantment for Your Tuesday

Tuesday is the day to work any magick that falls in the category of increasing strength, courage, bravery, and passion. All of these intense emotions are linked to this day’s energies, and spells designed around these themes will have extra punch when performed on this magickal day.

So, let’s add a little passion and conviction into your life! Break out the daring red pieces of your wardrobe, and put a little pizzazz into your day. Work with Lilith, and see what she has to teach you about personal power and sexuality. Meditate onTiw/Tyr and Mars, and see what those ancient warrior gods will show you about new tactics, strategies, and claiming personal victories in your life. Practice conjuring up that astral weapon from the meditation and use it wisely for protection and for courage.

Create a philter for courage and protection or handcraft your own Witch’s jar to remove negativity from your home. See what other Witch crafts you can conjure up with Tuesday’s magick. Create some kitchen magick on this Tuesday by whipping up a spicy stew-add in a few Mars-associated ingredients such as carrots, peppers, and garlic. Empower the stew for success, and then treat yourself and your family to a good, hearty meal. Try working with a little aromatherapy and burn some spicy or coffee-scented candles to increase your energy level.

Waxing Moon

Moon phase: Second Quarter

Moon Sign: Leo

The Waxing Moon

Waxing Moons occur during the time between New Moon and Full Moon and are dedicated to the energy of manifestation. During this time, we create, build, and develop, bringing new projects into being.

Moon in Leo

The Moon is traveling through Leo today. Shine and be proud! You rule right now!

The Moon in Leo speaks to our “inner child”. It’s a warm, generous, whole-heartedly loving position. Pride keeps us from pettiness, but it can also prevent us from opening up and revealing how we are truly feeling. We are on stage, our feelings are grand, and we appreciate some drama in our lives. We are easily threatened by anything that seems to be impersonal. This is a time when we seek attention–when we want to stand out for our special qualities. It’s a strong time for romance and any creative activity as well.

The Moon in Leo generally favors the following activities: Creative activities, activities involving children, generous undertakings, undertakings in which personal recognition is desired, and risk-taking.

The Planet Mars

Mars is the ruling planet of Aries and, before the discovery of Pluto, it was universally considered the ruler of Scorpio. Most modern astrologers consider Pluto the ruler of Scorpio, but many regard Mars as a co-ruler, while all traditional astrologers still regard Mars as the only ruler of Scorpio.

Mars was the Roman god of war and bloodshed, whose symbol was a spear and shield (from which its glyph is derived). Both the soil of Mars and the hemoglobin of our blood are rich in iron, and because of this they share its distinct deep red color. Mars orbits the sun in 687 days, spending about 57.25 days in each sign of the [[def:zodiac]]. It is also the first planet that orbits outside of Earth’s orbit making it the first planet that doesn’t set along with the sun.

Astrology
Astrologically Mars is associated with confidence and self assertion, aggression, sexuality, energy, strength, ambition, and impulsiveness. Mars governs sports, competitions and physical activities in general. The first-century poet Manilius, described the planet Mars as ardent, and as the lesser malefic.

In Chinese astrology, Mars is ruled by the element fire, which is passionate, energetic and adventurous. In Indian astrology, Mars is called Mangala and represents energy, confidence and ego.

Healing
In medicine Mars presides over the genitals, the muscular system, the gonads and adrenal glands; it was held to be hot and excessively dry, and ruled the choleric humour. It was associated with fever, accidents, trauma, pain and surgery. In modern astrology, Mars is said to rule the 1st and 8th houses; traditionally, however, Mars ruled the 3rd and 10th houses and was said to bring ‘joy’ in the 6th house of servants, chores and ill-health (all of these houses are associated with labor and energy expenditure: 3rd – schoolchild, 10th – worker, 6th – servant). While Venus tends to the overall relationship atmosphere, Mars is the passionate impulse and action, the masculine aspect, and this goes beyond sex into your drive, discipline, will-power and stamina.

Other Correspondences
Mars is associated with Tuesday, and in Romance languages the word for Tuesday often resembles Mars (in Spanish, martes and in French, mardi). Dante Alighieri associated Mars with the liberal art of arithmetic.

The color red, the-tower tarot card, the sword and the pentagram are all symbols of Mars.

The horse, the bear and the wolf are also associated with Mars.

Mars and Magick
The energy of Mars may be invoked in magical workings dealing with warriors, war or battles, attack or defense, increasing or preserving physical strength, courage or sexual potency. It can also be invoked to break binding spells and love spells and to counter or protect against any spells using Venus energy. Mars energy lends itself well to spells to induce lust and passion, but not love and devotion.

Herbs Associated with the Planet Mars
Thorny and/or red plants are often associated with Mars as are those with a strong, spicy flavor and the ability to warm and stimulate or energize the body.

Acacia, Agapanthus, Aloe, All-Heal, Asafoetida, Asarabacca, Ashwagandha, Barberry, Basil, Belladonna, Betony, Black cherry, Black gum, Blue cohosh, Broomrape, Bryony, Buckbush, Butterbur, Butcher’s broom, Cacti, Calamus, Caper, Cardamom, Cardoon, Cassava, Catnip, Chicalote, Chickweed, Chives, Coneflower, Coriander, Corn salad, Cow Parsnip, Cypress, Dandelion leaf, Devil’s claw root, Dragonhead flower, Dragon tree, Field horsetail, Flax lily, Garlic, Gentian, ginger, Gobo, Gorse, Guanique, Hawthorn, Horseradish, Hyacinth, Japanese knotweed, Kola nut, Lamium, Maca, Madder Root, Madwoman’s Milk, Masterwort, Mistletoe, Mugwort, Mullein, Mustard, nettles, Onion, Pepper, Pepperwort, Pennyroyal, Pigweed, Radish, Red cedar, Red clover, Red-hot poker, Reed, Resurrection lily, Rowan, Rue, Safflower, Sarsaparilla, Solandra, Tea, Tarragon, Thistle, Thyme, Toadflax, Tomatillo, Turmeric, Wild ginger, Wild tobacco, Wormwood, Yohimbe

The Witches Magick for March 27th – A Bloodstone Protection and Courage Spell

The bloodstone, when worn or carried, brings courage and eliminates fear and anger. The bloodstone was often used as a talisman for athletes and warriors. When you need a little extra courage and bravery to face challenges and stressful, scary situations, give this practical Witch’s spell a whirl.

For this particular crystal spell, you will need a few supplies: a red spicy-scented votive candle, a votive candle cup, three bloodstones (inexpensive tumbled stones are perfect), a photo of yourself or a small snip of your own hair, a small cast-iron cauldron, and matches or a lighter. Set up on a safe, flat surface.

Place the photo or snip of hair in the bottom of the cauldron. Now place the candle inside of the cup. Set this in the center of the small cauldron, on top of the photo or the hair. (If you are worried about the heat damaging the photo, then set the photo beneath the cauldron.) Next, arrange the three bloodstones around the candle cup. Ground and center yourself. Then, when you are ready, light the candle and repeat the following spell three times:

On this Mars day, there is fiery energy to spare
I call for courage and passion to know, to will, to dare
Three green bloodstones and a burning candle of red
I call for bravery and banish fear and dread.

Focus on the flame for a few moments. Believe in your ability to handle the situation, tion, whatever it may be.

Close the spell by saying:

For the good of all, with harm to none
By Mars’ energy, this spell is done.

Let the candle burn until it is consumed. If this is an ongoing problem or conflict, then repeat the spell every day for one week (in other words, from a Tuesday until the following Tuesday). Clean out the votive cup and light a new red votive candle for each day of the spell. When you are finished working this, clean up your setup and put away all of the spell components. If you like, you can carry those tumbled bloodstones with you to help reinforce your convictions.
