The Roman festival of the Consualia commemorates Consus, the god of harvests, presaging a good harvest later in the month. Today is also the Feriae Ancillarum, the Festival of Handmaids or the maids’ day out, when the maids of Rome were beyond the control of their mistresses. Fig trees were venerated on this day, with feasting beneath them in honor of Caprotina, an aspect of the Goddess Juno.

• Today marks the peak of Pluto’s 2016 appearance. The distant world reaches opposition, which means it lies opposite the Sun in our sky and remains visible all night. It glows dimly at magnitude 14.1, however, so you’ll need an 8-inch or larger telescope with good optics to spot it visually. Pluto currently lies in northeastern Sagittarius, some 0.3° west-southwest of the 3rd-magnitude star Pi (p) Sagittarii. See “The quest for distant Pluto” in the July Astronomy for complete details on finding this world.
Friday, July 8
• The Moon passes 1° south of Jupiter tomorrow morning, unfortunately after the two objects have dipped below the western horizon. But the view this evening is nearly as nice. The waxing crescent Moon stands 3° to 5° (depending on where in North America you live) to the planet’s lower right. Tomorrow evening, a slightly fatter crescent Moon will appear about twice as far to Jupiter’s upper left.
Saturday, July 9
• The Big Dipper’s familiar shape lies high in the northwest as darkness falls these July evenings. One of the summer sky’s finest binocular double stars marks the bend of the Dipper’s handle. Mizar shines at 2nd magnitude, some six times brighter than its 4th-magnitude companion, Alcor. Even though these two are not physically related, they make a fine sight through binoculars. (People with good eyesight often can split the pair without optical aid.) A small telescope reveals Mizar itself as double — and these components do orbit each other.

• This should be a good night to hunt down asteroid 7 Iris through a small telescope. The 10th-magnitude object lies nearly due south and at its highest position in the sky as darkness falls. Even better, there’s a reasonably bright guide star to point you in the right direction. This evening, look for Iris 0.5° due south of the magnitude 5.0 star Lambda (l) Libr

Good Thursday Morn’ Precious Family & Friends! May The Goddess Bless You This Day!
Another brief note, I sincerely appreciate all the nice and comforting comments about losing my beloved Willow. It was very heart breaking to see it laying out in the yard. Never, never dreamed of that. The tree has been looked at, there is no saving it. But my daughter (who I actually believe is turning into a witch just like her mother) took branches and cut and fixed them so they would root. I should have Willows all over the property. She is a good girl and I am very proud of her. I picked out one of the branches from the Willow for a staff and also a reminder of what once was.
I guess when I first saw the tree laying in the yard, I felt like I had lost all my childhood memories. Then I realized that was crazy. All those happy memories would be in my heart and soul forever as long as I lived. They didn’t die only the symbol I associated with them did.
It has been a rough two weeks to say the least. We have more storms forecast for today. So if we disappear again you know why. We also had all the other information for our Southern Hemisphere site ready to go this morning but we had a power failure and lost everything. We will still be working the kinks out of the site today. This site has to open. While Kiki was sick, I came very close to Morrighan. I begged her to take Kiki in her sleep and she did. I pledged to Morrighan anything she wanted done I would do. Shortly afterwards, I was hit with the idea there was a need for witchcraft site geared toward the Southern Hemisphere. I took this hint as being from Morrighan. So we have to open this site. I have provided you a link to our new site belong. Don’t panic when you see the graphics because this site started out to be one of my own personal sites, so that explains the graphics. But the site will be running a day ahead of this one, we had all the sun & moon data, Friday’s info and several other features ready for the southern hemisphere site and lost it in the power outage. Tomorrow, will be different. The site will be up and running. If you have any friends in the Southern Hemisphere, please spread the word about this new site. Just have a little patience with us as we find the last kinks today and tomorrow, the Southern Witches will have a new home.

We Survived but Unfortunately A Beloved Treasure of Mine Didn’t…..
As you last heard from us, we had a tornado headed our way. Just as soon as I shut down the computer in the office, Razputin let out this horrible growl-snarl. I got up and looked around the sky was pitch black and the building was starting to shake. I grabbed her and rapped my arms and legs around her, It happened so fast, we ended up in a doorway. It wasn’t a tornado, I knew that because I have been through 3 of them. This was something else, it was a micro-burst. It blew out both windows in my office. If it hadn’t been for Razzy, I don’t know what would have happened. After it was over with, we accessed the damage, nothing major. So I said the hell with it and went home.
When I got home, I got sick. My beautiful 16 year old Willow tree was down on the ground. Beautiful, perfectly health, magickal and laying on the ground, I was crushed. I planted it when we first came out here. Out of all the tree on our property, I never dreamed of that one getting hurt. It reminded me of my childhood. I grew up with a huge Willow tree that my best friend and me use to play under for hours. The beautiful sweeping branches, just watching it sway in the wind was magickal. I would go lean up against it and find comfort it in when I needed it. My daughter and her husband came out and started cutting it up. That was painful to watch. My daughter took several pictures of it, two of them are below.

It’s a little over 2 weeks to the Blessing Moon and boy has it been busy! Feeling excited for the bustle of activity this summer, although hopefully everyone is still making time for a little pool lounging when possible.
