This activates your innate creativity and gets your wheels turning about what you want to bring to life in the world, what you want to invest in and be a part of. When Sun contacts Venus, the creativity is centered around you, however, here as Venus contacts the Sun, it is all about the creation! Use this Solar infusion to brighten and illuminate your self, your surroundings or your creative projects. This expands your magnetic field and opportunities result. There is a burst of new energy wanting to be expressed through you, and it’s based on your new values and priorities. It is the beginning of a new creative cycle. Love too is a creative force, so if your relationships are more center-stage than your creative projects, then this too lends new potency to what you create with others. Invite or allow support and guidance from men.

6/9 ~ Mercury (communication & expression) ~oppose~ Mars (desires, action & aggression):

This energy is a mixed blessing. It is a time to consider thoughtful action, not impulsive reaction. Any opposition requires we find the balance, in this case, between our thoughts and actions. You may swing between extremes of keeping your thoughts or feelings all bottled up inside, until they explode … and spewing every thought that comes into your mind before truly considering why or to whom you are speaking. If you are already imbalanced and experiencing any kind of personal blockage or famine, you may feel a deep need to be heard which (under pressure) makes you want to tell people what you really think, without any filter. The problem is, whether you actually say anything to anyone or not, you still may be giving off angry vibrations which will likely bring more challenges & contrary people into your realm and you could end up in an argument either way. So the only way to really control or avoid this type of combative nature (within or without) is to recognize that only the ego needs to be “heard” in this way, Spirit always only seeks peace, and in this case, balance. How has your ego been leading lately? If you are NOT already imbalanced, but in a strong place, feeling productive and moving forward in your life, then this is a great time to ask those you trust, and who can be objective, to give you some constructive criticism to help you improve your Self or your position at this time. No matter what, it is a good time to pause before speaking or acting and ask your Self what exactly it is that you’d like to express or acquire at this time. Any impulsive, reactive thoughts, words or deeds are likely to bring more problems than solutions.

NOTE:  The Venus/Sun activation also brings the MidPoint in the current Venus Cycle. Essentially, Venus has an 18-month cycle which is divided by the first 9-months of Release work and the final 9-months of Reclamation work. The last one was in Capricorn and the next one is in Aries but this one is in Leo and we are at the critical midpoint, whose theme is Gemini. I’ve chosen to include an excerpt from my Venus in Leo Custom Guide. It includes questions, affirmations and explanations that are relevant to here and now. I would also recommend reviewing the Venus in Leo Cycle Article so that you can set conscious intentions around the Reclamation part of the cycle, which has just initiated on June 6th.

Venus in Leo Cycle Article:

In order to honor that which Venus is illuminating in your life, it’s good to set overall intentions for this first half of the cycle, at this time. Keep them broad for now because you will hone them as the cycle progresses, as you strip the layers of the last 8-yrs and as you regain clarity about what sustains and fulfills you. This cycle is about restoring integrity & peace within, while establishing new joy, beauty & protection without.

Consider the Leo Theme and think about what has to be *Integrated & Released* in order for you to upgrade the love, beauty & joy in your life. It’s time to realign with your own heart & discover a new facet of your Being that illuminates your Authentic Self in new, radiant & delicious ways.

The first half of the journey is about releasing that which has served its purpose and run its full course. Keep in mind throughout your clearing process that you are creating space for the NEW. It’s not so much about what you’ve lost or sacrificed, although that’s important, it is more about creating space with rich, fertile soil to plant new seeds and set new intentions as you move onward & upward. As you clarify what you are releasing, it is also a good exercise to set (loose) goals around what you would like to reclaim on the back-end of this cycle. You will get another chance to answer these questions 10-months from now, and often, something shifts by then. You may find that you are ready to reclaim a completely new level of the answers you have now, to something altogether different, because your fundamental *values & priorities* will have shifted by then in unforeseeable & magical ways.

Again, consider the overall Leo Theme but now, there will be a strong Gemini Theme kicking off the *Reclamation*. Think: Fire/Air ~ Creativity/Ideas ~ Friends/Social Circles & Learning how to love Self & play with Others in completely new ways. In June 2016, it will be time to think about what has to be *Initiated & Reclaimed* in order for you to open up to new ideas that will allow you to upgrade the love, beauty & joy in your life. It will be time to integrate & practice with your newly fortified connection to your own Heart & Authentic Self. You will be emerging, after your release process, to discover a number of new facets (thanks to Gemini) of your own Being, illuminating different aspects of your core essential Self that you will begin to play with, and then choose which ones to cultivate going forward.

The second half of the journey is about reclaiming that which is ready to be embodied & expressed in a completely new way. This can & will now support you more fully going forward because you’ve cultivated it from the inside-out. This meeting with the Sun (6.6.2016) will initiate the *Reclamation* part of the    cycle and give you the opportunity to define these terms and answer these questions again.

Consider:  What are you known for? What do you want to be known for? (reputation) How/When/Why do you ‘hide/dim your Light’? What did you release in Aug 2015 that will allow you to embody new facets of your Being now, in June 2016?

Affirmation: I am releasing any fear, doubt or inauthenticity so that I can reclaim being my uniquely brilliant & multi-dimensional Self.

Now that you’ve been through the release process, it is also a good exercise to set (loose) goals around what you would like to reclaim going forward. This second half of the journey is about reclaiming that which is ready to be embodied & expressed in a completely new way. Again, consider the overall Leo Theme but now, there is a strong Gemini Theme kicking off the *Reclamation*. Essentially, it is time to own, activate & truly embody your Inner Artist ~ that part of you that expresses naturally, from the inside-out. It’s also a time deeply supported for re-connecting with your Inner Child/Innocent Child’s Heart within, that’s the part of you capable of being alive, happy & fully present in the moment and fully engaged with life, taking it all in, and then sharing your ideas, feelings & unique gifts. It’s time to share your Self with the world, get out & play, have fun and lighten up! We must lighten our hearts most of all. On some level, the mourning period is over and we are on the back-side of the Life/Death/Life cycle, rebirthing, coming alive, waking up. We’ve died to the Old Self (last 8-years minimum) and are taking the vital pieces left to re-assemble a more Authentic Self, at a Higher Level, here & now.

The Bible & Conjuring

I know a lot of folks have issues with Christians and the church. The thing is that the church is man-made. Man rules the churches. Most of the folks that go to church worry about what they are going to wear or what Dick and Jane are doing; than what Gods word is saying. I’ve never had a bad experience with Christians or the church and I’m shocked to hear that so many have, but the thing is humans run these churches and to err is human. The thing is you can’t throw the baby out with the bath water if you want to be a Conjurer. The Bible is the meat of Conjure; it is the power behind the work. Some would argue this point and that is their right to do so.

The Bible is a book of power, if you want to learn Traditional Conjure then you must work with the Bible. Actually I was taught to work with the Old Testament and that is what I work with, although there are something’s in the New Testament that I have learned to work with. You don’t have to be a Christian, you can be anything you want to be but if you are going to claim to be a Conjure worker you need to know how to do the work. Why would you want to waste your time doing some watered down mess when you can do the real deal?

That book we call a Bible is a Tome of power, and when you pray the chapters and verses over your work you are creating a powerful force, one that will get the job done. You don’t ever have to set foot in a church if you choose not to, just work with the Bible. God has many names and I personally don’t care what name you call him or her as long as you do Conjure the way the work is supposed to be done. If you have to change it to suit you then you need to find something else that works for you! Plain and simple! Prayer builds power and power leads to success! I know some folks don’t know how to pray, so if you are one of those folks then just start out by talking. Say what is in your heart, don’t worry about if you are doing it right or not. Just DO IT! You have to start somewhere. Conjure is not a religion but it is built around the Bible, the Trinity and prayer.

I can’t speak for the folks in Africa because I have never been there although I did have a lady come all the way from Africa to learn from me; she stayed the whole weekend with me. I ask her about this type of work over there and she told me that if you got caught doing this work where she is from you could be stoned by the people and even run out of town. If it is a lie she is the one that told it. One thing I do know is that he Bible is part of Conjure maybe not in what folks are calling New Orleans Hoodoo but it is in Southern Conjure.

I don’t dispute the fact that when the ancestors were stolen from Africa they were not Christian. I’m sure they weren’t; but I know my history of the South. I was raised on it. This was a whole new world to them. Different language, different food, different clothes, different houses, DIFFERENT ROOTS AND HERBS, everything in this new world of horror was different. The only thing that couldn’t be taken from them was their KNOWLEDGE! It is obvious that they held on to some of their knowledge because we still practice Conjure today; but let’s be honest just for a minute. Let’s go back in time and take a look at the real horror these great Ancestors who endured a brutality not many could survive.

When they were captured they were chained in the bottom of the ship, they were allowed to wash when the body odor became so bad the sailors couldn’t stand the smell any longer. My dogs are kept better than these Ancestors were. Then once they reached the Carolina’s that wasn’t much better. They were stood up on platforms and inspected the way you would cattle. They checked their teeth, privates and God only knows what else was done to them. Then they were sold. They became the property of another human and “I question that”. So woo hoo we be home! If you believe that then you better go read your history books.

 

They had no homes, they lived in shacks. They were abused and treated less than animals; so do you REALLY believe they were allowed to keep their religion. They would have been looked at as devils or witches; if they would have lived after those Christians “I use the term lightly” got done with them. Unless you have lived in the South you really can’t comprehend how it really is. I’m talking about Georgia on up to the Carolina’s; even today in 2012 it’s a whole different world than the rest of the U.S. I will never believe that they were allowed to have their religious ceremonies amongst their Christian owners. They were smarter than their owners gave them credit and brought Christianity into the work or hid the work inside of Christianity. Conjure is a lot more than what some see as spell work. There are remedies and such that go along with the work; it is a way of life. It is not only about the work. If you try to remove the Bible out of Hoodoo/ Conjure then you are NOT doing Southern Conjure work. You can’t separate the two because our Ancestors hid the work in Christianity. I can’t speak for New Orleans Voodoo/ Hoodoo which folks see as the same thing or that they interchange but I stand firm about Southern Hoodoo/ Conjure.

I don’t claim to know it all nor do I claim to have a bunch of PHD’s next to my name; I have something that money can’t buy; the knowledge that has been handed down through my family and my elders. I believe that the Bible is part of the work and always has been. This is what I have seen growing up in a Southern family.

What is Voodoo?

As mentioned previously in the introduction, Voodoo is an ancient religion. It was birthed in the kingdoms of Africa six thousand years ago. The Fon Kingdom, now seen in the map as Southern Benin, is considered as the cradle of Voodoo. Even today, millions of people in Benin, Ghana, and Togo still practice Voodoo.

The name is derived from the Fon word Voudon which translates to “the Power” or “the Creator”. Indeed, like most religions, followers of the Voodoo faith believe that the world was made and is governed by an all-powerful Supreme Being. That said, Voodooists believe that as mere mortals, we are neither capable nor worthy of communicating directly with the Supreme Being. The Creator, though invincible, all-loving and always watching, must not be bothered with our daily concerns. It is for this reason why we need the aid of other lesser spiritual beings, including one’s ancestors. Note that these spirits are not considered as gods. Despite their presence, Voodoo remains monotheistic in nature.

However, unlike major religions, Voodoo does not have a holy scripture which the followers base their faith upon. Instead, Voodoo concentrates more on individual experience. Because it does not constrain one’s actions by rules set in stone, you are free to act and exist as stated by your conscience. No set of ancient rules exist to dictate your actions for you. No words written centuries ago will predetermine your choice. No one will threaten you into obedience with punishments or everlasting damnation. Instead, it is up to you to do the right thing, to determine by yourself the path of righteousness, and to make the conscious choice to walk on that path. This is one of the most beautiful things about being a Voodooist. The Voodoo faith supports empowerment and encourages responsibility.

To the Romans, this day was called Dies Mercurii, or “Mercury’s day” Mercury was a popular character in the Roman pantheon. A messenger of the gods, he presided over commerce, trade, and anything that required skill or dexterity. The Celts also worshiped Mercury and eventually equated him with the Norse god Odin (some spelling variations on this name include Wotan, Wodin, and Wodan). In Norse mythologies, Odin, like Mercury, is associated with poetry and music. Interestingly enough, both Odin and Mercury were regarded as psychopomps, or the leaders of souls, in their individual mythologies.

Odin, one of the main gods in Norse mythology, was constantly seeking wisdom. He traveled the world in disguise as a one-eyed man with a long gray beard, wearing an old, beat-up hat and carrying a staff or a spear (which brings to my mind images of Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings). In the Old English language, this day of Mercury evolved into Wodnes daeg, “Woden’s day,” or Wednesday.

Wednesday carries all of the planetary and magickal energies and associations of the witty and nimble god Mercury himself. Some of these mercurial traits included good communication skills, cleverness, intelligence, creativity, business sense, writing, artistic talent, trickiness, and thievery. And don’t forget all of those wise and enigmatic qualities associated with the Norse god Odin/Wodin, not to mention the goddess Athena’s contributions of music, the arts, handmade crafts, and writing. Wednesdays afford excellent opportunities for seeking wisdom, changing your circumstances, and improving your skills, be they in trade and commerce, music and art, or in communication and writing.

The Mood of Cancer
The Moon sets the emotional tone as it transits through the Zodiac signs. It changes signs every 2 1/2 days. You can work with this rhythm to “go with the flow” of the Moon. You can use it to know the general feeling tone to expect.

When the Moon is in Cancer, we all become homebodies. We want to retreat to the place we feel most at home. This can bring out a sense of “homesickness” if we’re far from home, or estranged from others. It may be a time, then of reaching out to those that know us best.

This Moon makes us quick to tear up and have sentimental moments. We might get absorbed in memories of a long lost lover or friend. It heightens emotions, and we might experience mood swings, from dark lows to blissful highs. We are more sensitive to the moods of others.

This Moon makes us want to retreat, to refill the well. But it’s about being enriched by close ties, and the safety of home, too. It’s not necessarily mellow, but there’s a sense of wanting to be enclosed, private, in familiar environs.

We might reach for our favorite foods, or show love by baking or cooking. The trappings of home included aromas that are comforting. It all ends with cozying up in bed, maybe even being tucked in.

You may also get lost in an imaginative project. You can add emotional depth and nuance to what you’re working on. Whatever you do, it’s with more feeling.

It’s a time of sensitivity, when we’re more empathic in general. This can cause us to absorb the clouds of others, but it also leads to great compassion. This might extend out to include all of humanity. You might discover what soothing balm you can contribute. You have a greater instinct for what’s nurturing for people and the culture at large.

Things to Do:
Take a long bath, hydrate, irrigate, potter around the house; daydream; make your living space more homey; connect with your heart ties; mother someone or be mothered; nurture children, animals, the elderly (or any vulnerable thing); put protective gates around your garden; get a security alarm system or locks; talk to you Mom; spend time with women; bring treats to your co-workers; go to bed early; keep a dream journal close by; be near the ocean or waterbody; paint, draw, sing, act or write.
