The Witches Magick for Jan. 31st – Ouija Board Magick

Ouija Board Magick

You will need:

1 Ouija Board

1 Candle (preferably white)

Incense ingredients for burning, incense sticks or aromatic oil for burners (optional)

Always have 2 or more people present for best results (it is not recommended for beginners to use the board alone)

Pen and paper

Conditions for a successful séance

Only have people present who are serious and respectful. If the board is used without care or in a joking manner, this can attract unwanted and potentially dangerous negative energies and spirits.

Do NOT drink alcohol or use any mind altering drugs including marijuana!

Clear your mind of all negative thoughts or distractions. Your mind must be clean and clear.

Anybody having any psychosis or psychological disorders or persons who are nervous, anxious or have addictive tendencies must not use the board.

Never ask questions relating to your own death or death of another person.

Keep your posture straight and do not cross your legs under the table.

Make sure you visually protect yourself and have faith that you are protected. Imagine a white light surrounding you and your friends. It is always a good idea to make an affirmation before you begin. For example, “With the power of the elements, spirit guides, angels and higher self, I and the users of this board are protected from all negative spirits, entities, energies and influences.” This is what I personally use, but you should say something that resonates personally to yourself.

One person should be the main person to ask any spirits to come forward and talk. This same person should be the one to close the board down at the end too (see “closing down the board”). Everyone should lightly place their fingertips on the planchette. The main person should start by asking for protection against any negative influences (by visualising a light around you and the participants and asking your spirit guides and higher self or angels to protect you and that you are only willing to communicate with spirits for your/our highest good).

Then ask if there are any spirits that would like to come forward and speak. Something along the lines of “Are there any spirits in the room that would like to speak to us. Please communicate with us by using the board only. When you are ready please move the planchette to YES or move it in circles”. It is safer if you ensure that the spirits only communicate through the board – make it certain that you are in control of the board and either ignore any other spiritual activity in the room (knocks, bangs, tapping, lights etc) or ask the spirit to either use the board or leave.

When you receive contact through the board ensure that you thank the spirit that has come forward (it is very important that you remain at all times with utmost respect and gratitude). When receiving an answer to your question, each letter must be clearly visible in the hole of the planchette – if it is between letters, ask the spirit to reconfirm the letter and it should move to the correct one. ALL fingers (2-4 fingers per person) must remain on the planchette at all times.

It can take up to 15-20 minutes before any spirit will come forward to talk. Remain calm, keep your fingers on the planchette and clear your minds apart from focusing on the planchette. If nothing happens then slowly move the planchette yourselves in large circles around the board a few times, then pause and wait – usually the spirit will take over from here. If you still have no luck after about 45 minutes then close down the board and try it another evening.

Suggestions to ask

Asking the name of the spirit is always a good question to start with.

Occasionally spirits cannot or do not wish to answer certain questions so respect their silence and do not ask the same question over and over again. Ask once, once again to confirm and that is all.

Ask if the spirit is a good spirit. If the planchette goes to NO, it is advisable to close down the board and wait at least half an hour before attempting to make contact again.

You can ask any general questions about your own life, for example:
How can I live better?
What am I doing wrong?
Am I in the right job?
What can I do to improve my life/situation etc?

Note: Take the answers like you would anything else that somebody tells you (alive or dead). Do not revolve your life around answers you may receive as they may be inaccurate.

Closing down the board

This is extremely important! The board MUST be closed down properly at the end of each and every séance. Start by thanking the spirits for coming forward and talking with you. Wish them peace and say Goodbye. The spirit should move the planchette to GOODBYE and you may pack up the board.

If the spirit does not move the planchette to GOODBYE, then tell the spirit that you are saying goodbye and that you ask they do the same. If the spirit STILL refuses to leave, then you must move the planchette to GOODBYE and in a stern strong voice say GOODBYE and LEAVE out loud. Remove your fingers from the planchette. If you feel that is not enough you can also slam the planchette down on a hard surface (obviously take care not to break it!) or pass it through a candle flame if it is not made of flammable material.

WOTC Extra – Some Ouija Board Do’s & Don’ts

WOTC Extra – Some Ouija Board Do’s & Don’ts

We have all heard many stories about the Ouija board so what do we believe? That’s for you to decide. But we figured we would give you a few pointer’s we have learned in order to help keep you safe from the Ouija board and it’s spirits during your Ouija session. These are the same thing as superstitions only people call them “Ouijastitions”.Weather you are superstitious or not you might want to take some of these precautions while using the board. Its The same thing as “It’s bad luck when a black cat walks across your path”,”Don’t walk under ladder’s”,”If you break a mirror it’s 7 years bad luck”.Only dealing with the Ouija board.

– Never use the Ouija Board when you are in an ill or weakened condition. This can lead to all kinds of trouble and makes the person more vulnerable to possession.(For more on possession…see the next page)

-Often times the spirits contacted through the board create “wins” for the user causing he or she to become more and more dependent on the board. For example, a spirit might tell the truth about a future event to gain the trust of the user. The user begins to consult the board more and more and eventually become addicted, not wanting to do anything but spend time with the spirit. This is known as “Progressive Entrapment”.

– Since there is no way of truly knowing if a spirit is good or evil it is important to keep in mind that the spirits will often use false flattery and lies to gain your confidence. Be careful.

-Always be respectful to the spirits.

-Sometimes an evil spirit will permanently inhabit a board. When this happens no other spirits will be able to communicate though that Ouija Board.

-Beware … if the planchette begins to count down through the letter of the alphabet or the numbers the spirit can escape form the board.

-If the planchette moves to the four corners of the board an evil spirit has been contacted.

-Never use the Ouija in a graveyard or a place where a terrible death has occurred. Playing in these places might cause terrible manifestations.

-Witch Boards are named such because witches once used them to summon demons.

-Avoid playing the Ouija Board alone. This increases your chances of becoming possessed by a spirit or demon.

-Ouija Boards that are not properly disposed of will return to haunt the owner.

-If you Burn the Ouija Board it will scream.

-If you place a silver coin on the board,It is said that no evil spirits can come through.

-Never leave the planchette on the board when you are not using it.

-To properly dispose of the Ouija Board break it into seven pieces, pour holy water on it and bury it.

Maybe all this is just Ouija folklore passed down something like an urban legend but it’s your choice to believe it or not…

Let’s Talk Witch – Ouija Boards

Let’s Talk Witch – Ouija Boards

The Ouija board is what many believe can be used to communicate with the spirits of the dead. Although there is no scientific proof to support this belief it should be pointed out it is not a game and many people have suffered many psychological problems. This is not to say that it is purely in the minds of those that have been exposed to Ouija boards as always the power of the mind and its’ capabilities are still as yet unclear when dealing with spititual matters.

The name “ouija” comes from the French and German words for yes, “oui” and “ja.” There are many different types of Ouija Boards all have different layouts and are made from different materials. The board usually consists with the letters of the alphabet, 0-9 in numbers and the words, “Yes” and “No.” The user or users of the board then lightly touch a pointer (sometimes called a planchet) and the pointer moves and spells out the answers to questions asked of it. Usually this pointer is mounted on castors to help it move freely about the board.

They became very popular in the 1960’s being sold in many countries as a board game although they were eventually withdrawn from main shopping outlets because of the stigma that was attached to them by the media.
Some believe that the Ouija offers proof as to life after death. Others, though, believe that the answers to the ouija come from the unconscious mind of one or all of the sitters. In a similar type of way in which Tom Lethbridge argues that dowsing works.

It must be stated that persons of a nervous disposition can be frightened easily when using a ouija board and it is suggested that they should therefore avoid them. It must also be pointed out that there is no scientific proof that they actually work, although there have been many claims over the years. The Ouija board is not a game and should be treated with care, preferably there should be a medium/psychic who has experience present at all times.

Conducting a Ouija Session

Conducting a Ouija Session

by Jenni Kosarin

If you do decide to use it, it’s important to have a good reason and have all your questions prepared in advance. Be sure to review the section on conducting séances—all of that information should apply to using the Ouija board, except that you can have fewer than three people participate. Also, make sure that you don’t conduct the Ouija séance over a bed or near the bathroom. (The bed is a personal place and may be inviting to spirits; conducting the séance near the bathroom is bad feng shui.) The best thing to do is use a table.

Be careful when choosing those you invite to participate; overemotional, nervous, fearful, or anxious people should never attempt to use the Ouija board. Love attracts love—the feeling when using the board should be one of projecting love and confidence in order to call and successfully connect with higher spiritual guides. Be sure that everyone is decorous and polite—don’t interrupt each other or shout.

Let the Session Begin

To begin, perform a protection spell or meditation, as previously explained. The people involved should then place their hands lightly on the edge of the planchette, or pointer, which should move freely around the board. Keep in mind that if you’re pressing down on the pointer, or if it makes a sound when moving, you’re probably steering it. If you have successfully contacted a spirit, the planchette should move on its own. You should be barely touching it.

Once the session begins, psychics advise that you ask to communicate with an agreeable spirit who can keep the more confused, wandering ones away. It’s always best to state up front what you are looking for from this contact. (If you don’t know, you shouldn’t be using the board.) Ask each question slowly, one at a time. The answers to the questions are then spelled out by the planchette, which points to letters, numbers, and Yes or No. Don’t just assume a session is over when you feel like it. No one should get up and leave until you officially end the session by pointing to Goodbye (a word on the board).

How to Use a Ouija Board – Ouija Board Do's and Don'ts

How to Use a Ouija Board – Ouija Board Do’s and Don’ts

By , About.com Guide

If you are thinking about trying to communicate with the spirits using a Ouija board is a fairly easy way to begin your exploration.

Some people are really nervous about using a Ouija or talking board for spiritual communications. There is a concern that using a Ouija board could possibly be an invitation for dark forces to enter into the room. The use of Ouija or any other mediumship aid does warrant caution. Really, think about it. Do you leave your front door unlocked at all times? Or is there a neon sign out in your front lawn flashing 24/7 beckoning every stranger who walks past your street to step inside your home? Of course not!

When you wish to communicate with the spirit world via the Ouija or another channel (automatic writing, visualizations, thought, etc.) it is best to be specific about “who” you are wishing to receive communications from. If you didn’t like to hang around with Uncle Jimmy when he was living, then you’re not likely going to be thrilled hearing from him beyond the grave either. Intention is key!

How to Use a Ouija Board:

I’ve listed below a few do’s and don’ts for using the Ouija Board – Ouija Etiquette if you will…

Ouija Board Do’s

  • Do darken the room and entice the spirits to visit by lighting some candles.
  • Do avoid possible distractions by turning off the television, cell phones, etc.
  • Do balance the board upon your knees if possible.
  • Do warm up the board by moving the planchette in circles or figure eight pattern.
  • Do be specific about who you wish to communicate with (Aunt Mary, personal spirit guide, Ascended Master, etc.)
  • Do be cordial to your spirit guests, although it is okay to ask them to leave if they are rude guests (using foul language, taunting you or your seance guests, etc.)
  • Do write down the messages letter by letter. Spirits often misspell, use slang, or will even txt speak.
  • Do have fun!

Ouija Board Don’ts

  • Do not use the Ouija board by yourself, it is best to get a buddy to assist you.
  • Do not confuse the spirit with questions from too many people, assign one person in the room to ask questions.
  • Do not ask questions you don’t want to know the answer to such as “When am I going to die?” You’re not going to get a serious answer to these types of questions.
  • Do not ask questions you already know the answer to like “What is my middle name?” It’s a seance, not a pop quiz!
  • Do not allow the invited spirit guest to control the session, you want answers, not a lecture.
  • Do not accept all communications as fact, discern all information given. Only accept what feels accurate in your gut.
  • Do not be upset if your seance is a bust, sometimes spirits don’t feel like talking.

Quick Question Before I continue……

After that last article I posted about Ouija Boards being a tool of the Devil. I got to wondering. It doesn’t matter where I have been or who I have talked too. No one wants to use or even touch a Ouija Board. I have always been curious about this. I occasionally use one myself. But most Witches tend to steer clear of them. I have been told, “I wouldn’t touch one with a ten-foot pool,” or “It’s evil.”

The Ouija Board, I personally think, has got a bad rap. It has been associated with the Devil, being Evil and even summoning for Evil Spirits. I can testify it depends on the operator. They must know how to properly operate it.

My question: We do not believe in the Devil or Evil (well some of us do and some of us don’t, that is Evil). So why do we associate this Divination tool with the Devil and Evil? How do you feel about the Boards? Ever use one?

I want to see what you have to say about this. Come on now, let me hear you!

Are Ouija boards harmless children's toys, or tools of the devil?

Are Ouija boards harmless children’s toys, or tools of the devil?

By Patti Wigington, About.com Guide

The Ouija board is one of the most controversial forms of divination.

Question: Are Ouija boards harmless children’s toys, or tools of the devil?

I bought a Ouija board because I want to talk to spirits. My dad says it’s a tool of the Devil but I think I’ll be fine. What do you think?

Answer:

Erm… well, I’m going to let the whole “devil” bit slide, but let’s look at this a bit more in depth, shall we?

Here’s the problem with a Ouija Board — anyone can use one, and no skill is required. In other words, the thing that makes the Ouija Board so easy to use is also what can make it potentially troublesome. Toy and game companies sell them by the thousands, but most people don’t realize exactly what they are. Are they evil? No, no more than your Monopoly board is. Are they dangerous? Well, in the hands of someone who’s untrained — or an idiot — they could be. Look at it as a spiritual version of the chat room, if that helps. There’s nothing at all wrong with talking to thirty strangers… until one of them turns out to be a serial killer or a pedophile. And the thing is, you don’t KNOW who is what when you enter that room. Same with a Ouija board.

A Ouija Board is, quite simply, a divinatory tool. Its purpose is to answer a question by inviting spirits to speak to the people using the board. There’s no guarantee that anything will happen at all… but there’s also no way to control what DOES happen.

The use of a Ouija board is a form of voluntary possession. In order to get the spirit to contact you through the planchette, you basically have to give up your will — it’s the only way for them to work through you. The spirit isn’t moving the planchette, but it’s causing you to move it with your hands by way of possession. Once you’ve opened up the Ouija board, it’s a crapshoot as to what’s going to try to make contact — you don’t know who or what is moving that planchette around, or what its purpose is.

The bottom line — if you’re unsure about what you’re doing, or inexperienced with dealing with spirits, you may want to find some other method of divination that doesn’t involve voluntary possession.

Ouija Boards

Ouija Boards

Definition: Supposedly the name “Ouija Board” is derived from the French and German words for “yes” (oui and ja). The device is used to supposedly contact immaterial  spirits who control the hands of the human participants for the purpose of answering  questions. These questions can involve the nature of the afterlife, events which  occurred while these spirits still existed in the physical realm, or events which will  occur in the future (divination). The Ouija Board has often been used by both kids  and adults as basically a game, but it has also been used by people who are “true  believers” in the presence and power of spirits.

A Ouija Board is a simple device, consisting of a flat board covered with all the letters of the alphabet, numbers, and four words written large: Yes, No, Maybe and Goodbye. In addition it comes with a triangular object, a bit larger than a fist, resting on three short legs. This is called a planchette, and one corner is used as a pointer.

The original version of such boards consisted just of the planchette and paper – a pencil was put through a hole in the planchette and the “spirits” were supposed to transmit their messages in this fashion. This design was changed in the late 19th century by Isaac Fuld, a Baltimore toymaker who added the board with letters and numbers, thus simplifying the transmission of messages. Sales were tremendous, especially after World War I when millions of people were mourning the loss of loved ones and were anxious to get some sign, any sign, that they might still “exist” in some fashion.

For tax reasons, Fuld insisted that his Ouija board was not a game but rather a  scientific instrument. The government attempted to impose a tax upon his sales like they  did with other games, something he fought all of the way to the Supreme Court. He lost.

Today, all rights and trademarks are owned by Parker Brothers because Fuld’s children sold the business in 1966. Although they no longer manufacture it, anything which was not made by them is not an authentic Fuld board. As it currently stands, it is operated by having one or more people sit at the board with one or more hands on the planchette and they ask questions of spirits. The planchette is then supposed to move about the board, pointing to the answers – numbers, words, or letters which spell out more specific information.

In practice, the answers are produced by the ideomotor effect, not spirits. That this  is the real cause was recognized even early on – the original patent for the Ouija  Board included the statement that “A question is asked and by involuntary  muscular actions of the players, or through some other agency, the frame will  commence to move across the table.”

It is also interesting that if opaque paper is placed over the board, hiding the letters and numbers from the people who are using it, the “spirits” are no longer able communicate. Are we really supposed to believe that these spirits are unable to see through plain paper?
