October 30 – Daily Feast

October 30 – Daily Feast

In retrospect, we have ignored common sense in favor of doing what we wanted to do. We wish we had not done it, but we said what we wanted to say, spoke out when it would have been better to stay quiet – we have overruled our common sense. Looking back again, when did we get off track? What little thing stung us into action? If we learn to hear the voice of wisdom we can overcome our foolishness. Wisdom never lets us down, but ignoring it will put away from us the best friend we can have.

Laugh-A-Day for Dec. 7: Obituary – Common Sense

Obituary – Common Sense

This interesting yet sad obituary was sent to Will and Guy by a regular reader of our site. It represents a view often taken by British people when looking at the society that they have helped create. It may also apply in other countries. Let us know.

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:

  • Knowing when to come in out of the rain
  • Why the early bird gets the worm
  • Life isn’t always fair
  • and maybe it was my fault

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an Aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn’t defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realise that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers:

  1. I Know My Rights
  2. I Want It Now
  3. Someone Else Is To Blame
  4. I’m A Victim

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

Daily Horoscopes for Tuesday, October 30

Although we act in a rational manner today, common sense isn’t the only viable solution. The pragmatic Taurus Moon helps us stabilize our lives, but our emotions are quite active now that the Sun creates a cooperative sextile with passionate Pluto. We may think we can contain our feelings, yet we might not be able to avoid getting hooked into an intense drama with a few surprising twists and turns from the Moon’s aspects to Uranus and Pluto.

Aries Horoscope

(Mar 21 – Apr 19)

Watch your spending today since it will be all too easy to make a foolish purchase that is based upon a whim. Instead of buying an item that just gives you an endorphin rush, invest in something more meaningful. Using your time and money to learn a new skill is wiser than distracting yourself with pleasure in the present moment.

Taurus Horoscope

(Apr 20 – May 20)

You will feel better about your productivity if you don’t waste too much energy today on details that won’t matter in the long run. The Moon in your earthy sign reminds you of the importance of following through with your commitments. However, you can still derive pleasure by consciously opening your senses to enjoy good smells, sights and sounds, even while getting your work done.

Gemini Horoscope

(May 21 – Jun 20)

Think about the consequences before you open your mouth or click on the send button, since it’s all too tempting to share what’s on your mind today and then quickly regret it. Inappropriate gossip or incorrect information can now slip right past your mental security guard, so practice self-restraint to avert unnecessary trouble. Use your quick wit to spread a positive message wherever you go.

Cancer Horoscope

(Jun 21 – Jul 22)

Your desire to please your friends and family might provoke complicated explanations that don’t lead anywhere positive. Spend your time with people who will accept you without requiring a song and dance. You may be better off leaving the verbal justifications for another day since there’s just too much going on now to fit it all into words.

Leo Horoscope

(Jul 23 – Aug 22)

You naturally see yourself as in charge because others so often look to you for leadership. However, you may not want to take on additional responsibility at this time because there are so many things that already feel out of your control. Instead of making yourself crazy by trying to handle more work, you could be happier going your own way for a while. You don’t always have to live up to someone else’s expectations if you’re living up to your own.

Virgo Horoscope

(Aug 23 – Sep 22)

You enjoy learning effective ways to get ahead, and usually you are quite a dedicated student. Unfortunately, your desire for such knowledge might not be fully satisfied today. Try as you might, the information you acquire now doesn’t seem logical. You can turn your mind in every direction to make sense of what’s happening, but this may not be the best time to stick to your regular routine. Be open to change and return to the tried and true only when you run out of options.

Libra Horoscope

(Sep 23 – Oct 22)

You often enjoy being the accommodating one in a relationship, yet you expect others to return the favor on occasion. After all, it seems fair to compromise for the sake of harmony. Now, however, you may run into someone who is particularly stubborn. Keep in mind that the messages you’re receiving might not be the real source of the problem. Ask different questions, dig deeper, and you’ll get closer to finding the answer

Scorpio Horoscope

(Oct 23 – Nov 21)

A strong connection with someone can make this a delightful day unless a disagreement gets out of hand. Savoring the simple sweetness of a loving partner or a good friend may be enough to smooth over the rough spots. Fortunately, you won’t have to resort to struggle or trickery to have a good time. All you need is the willingness to open your heart.

Sagittarius Horoscope

(Nov 22 – Dec 21)

Finding pleasure in work around the home makes sense for you today with the dependable Taurus Moon in your 6th House of Routine. But don’t worry about getting a specific task done, for the secret to your current success is to indulge your feelings rather than just doing the first thing that comes to mind. Experience the present moment in its entirety now, instead of trying to meet your goals. Beauty is the guiding force that can make this a very sweet day.

Capricorn Horoscope

(Dec 22 – Jan 19)

This can be one of those delightful days that remains in your memory for a long time. Still, it’s up to you to turn something mundane into a special event by sharing it with someone you love. If this option isn’t available, just be as playful as you can. Allowing yourself to express your inner child enables you to fully experience this opportunity for joy.

Aquarius Horoscope

(Jan 20 – Feb 18)

Spending quality time with those who are near and dear to you can make this a special day. In particular, tender moments with family members feel precious, especially if you still need to head out to work. You’re not necessarily the sentimental type, but today may be an exception. You don’t need to be overly ambitious now, for you are capable of finding great happiness close to home.

Pisces Horoscope

(Feb 19 – Mar 20)

You are in your comfort zone today, yet it’s important to make sure that your positive outlook is not based upon a faulty illusion. If a conversation doesn’t go according to your plan, quit attempting to control it. Go with the flow and don’t frustrate yourself by trying to get anywhere special. There will be plenty of time to follow your pursuits later on. In the meantime, keep gathering information to clarify your position

Your Daily Horoscopes for Wednesday, October 10

An unrelenting commitment to our visions profoundly impacts the seemingly immovable structures in our lives. We can step closer to our dreams today as stable Saturn forms a flowing trine to idealistic Neptune. A perceptive Mercury-Pluto sextile enables us to cut through the fog with incisive logic and draw reasonable conclusions. Fortunately, supportive aspects from the lively Leo Moon encourage us to take bold action toward realizing our goals.

Aries Horoscope

(Mar 21 – Apr 19)

You are on the go again with the Moon back in a fellow fire sign, but something is different today. Instead of just barging ahead, you’re combining the best from two worlds now. On one hand, you have a sense of the fundamental integrity of the outer world. On the other hand, your imagination is fully supporting your actions. Being creative isn’t just about expressing yourself in new ways; it’s about making your dreams come true.

Taurus Horoscope

(Apr 20 – May 20)

Others sound more serious than you prefer today and their criticism of your plans might feel over the top. However, it’s wise to remain open to any feedback you receive now because it could contain enough truth to improve your performance. Instead of putting up unnecessary defenses, push past your old limitations and recognize that nearly anything is possible if you put your mind to it.

Gemini Horoscope

(May 21 – Jun 20)

Some of the more pressing issues in your life have probably eased up a little by now. And although the circumstances have not likely changed much, your new-and-improved attitude makes all the difference in the world. As long as you haven’t picked a path of escapism or denial, you can deepen your sense of spirituality as you encounter big changes at home and on the job. Don’t worry if you’re flying by the seat of your pants; your plans will continue to solidify over the weeks ahead.

Cancer Horoscope

(Jun 21 – Jul 22)

You might find yourself in the spotlight today, whether or not you asked for it. Thankfully, you have a powerful ally who may ride to the rescue now. Although, the present helpers who have come into your life are quite real, they could be from another dimension or a parallel universe. But even if they are mysteriously otherworldly, gratefully accept the good vibrations that surround you at this time.

Leo Horoscope

(Jul 23 – Aug 22)

This is an exciting week and you feel as if you’re in the swing of things. You aren’t quite sure exactly how today will unfold, but it starts off like a day at the races with you charging ahead. Just be aware that your friends and associates expect a lot from you now, yet they might lose faith in you if you exaggerate your story. Everyone will take you more seriously if you cut to the chase. Tell it like it is; there’s no need to paint a picture that is different from reality.

Virgo Horoscope

(Aug 23 – Sep 22)

You hold more power than you realize today. Other peoples’ feelings can easily influence you now, making you less sure of your own position. It requires real practice to keep your heart wide open while at the very same time concentrating your energy on the work that must be done. Give it your best and you’ll soon be feeling victorious, while also gaining respect from others.

Libra Horoscope

(Sep 23 – Oct 22)

You may feel a bit feistier than usual, not that you want to pick a fight or anything. It’s just that you know what you want and are willing to do what’s necessary to make things work. Don’t get caught up in someone else’s big ideas because you don’t need that kind of inflationary distraction. Maintaining singular focus enables you to accomplish more than you thought possible.

Scorpio Horoscope

(Oct 23 – Nov 21)

You are standing at a crossroads and have big choices to make today, even if you think you can put them off for another day. You might feel like you could really use some peace and quiet, but you probably won’t find it now. Instead of trying to escape from your responsibilities by fantasizing about a perfect future, concentrate on finding the most practical path that leads to your dreams.

Sagittarius Horoscope

(Nov 22 – Dec 21)

You can be emotionally productive today, but remember that you are under the dispersive influence of Neptune. Fortunately, the slower pace should allow you time to address complex relationship issues in a proactive manner. You have had your share of fun recently; now, regardless of your social inclinations, it’s time to get back to the tasks at hand. Keep in mind that working with someone else helps to turn your chores into a more enjoyable activity.

Capricorn Horoscope

(Dec 22 – Jan 19)

You may be feeling like you’re at the peak of your power cycle now so you would be well served by concentrating your mental acuity on work-related tasks. Even though you might be overly concerned about your future, you can benefit from also considering the needs of others and supporting their interests. Remember, you are not separate from those in your community; you further your own cause as you help your brothers and sisters.

Aquarius Horoscope

(Jan 20 – Feb 18)

Say exactly what you mean today. But, think twice before speaking so you also mean what you say. Your friends and associates see you as the creative one now, yet you’re probably much more practical and rational than they realize. Pare back your ambitions to what’s most realistic and limit your activities to those that advance your progress. Your inventive style works to your benefit as long as you don’t get carried away with your own big ideas.

Pisces Horoscope

(Feb 19 – Mar 20)

Focus on trusting your common sense because the next few weeks will require you to show up with your feet on the ground, even if your head is floating in the clouds. However, unfinished business can prevent you from reaching your goals. Complete the projects in front of you because gaining closure now ensures that your actions have positive and enduring effects.
