FINGER PAINTING SEX MAGIC

You will need your lover, one ounce of olive oil, nine drops of vanilla scented oil, and three drops of jasmine-scented oil.

Just before you make love, take a warm bath with your beloved. Decide what you both want to direct your sexual and orgasmic energy toward. Keep it simple and be specific. Next, mix the oils together, and paint words of endearment on your lover’s naked skin. Finger-paint one word on your lover’s skin, then ask your lover to paint a word of love on your skin. After you paint each word, use your fingers and your imagination to rub the oil gently and sensuously into your lover’s skin. See how many words you spell before you fall passionately into the throws of lovemaking. Direct your lovemaking energies toward a shared goal or dream.

Let’s Talk Witch – The Fifth Element

Raven Of The Night

Let’s Talk Witch – The Fifth Element

In the ancient Greek philosophical school of thought, the fifth element was referred to as ether. Aristotle wrote of ether as an element that transcended physical decay and aging, or in other words, the element of which the stars were made up. Ether has also been speculated on as the energetic field which connects all things in the universe. To the ancient Chinese, the fifth element was simply space, as all of the other elements require space in which to exist. Still others have called it time, because none of the other elements can exist without duration. While these thoughts are clearly divided, you may notice that they all follow a common theme: all of them speculate on the fifth element as a unifying element between the other four.

For magickal purposes, the fifth element is referred to as spirit. Even within the range of magickal practices, there are different meanings of this concept. In traditional magick, spirit is the unification of all other elements. It is also representative of the will of the magickal practitioner to direct the energies of the other elements. In this sense, we could say quite accurately that the fifth element is magick itself.

On another esoteric level of understanding, the spirit element represents the completion and balance of man. You may notice that the four elements all represent parts of nature of the human. Earth is aligned to the physical body, water is aligned to the emotions, air is aligned to the consciousness, and fire is aligned to the life energy within. The spirit element is achieved when these four are all at work and balanced within a human being. Lack of proper balance will inherently cause suffering in one form or another. Traditions that seek to improve the practitioner through achieving this balance often use the four elements as symbols of the aspects that combine to create a properly balanced human being. It is for this reason that Masonic ritual, one such tradition, makes reference to the four elements at the end of its Entered Apprentice degree. It is during this section that the new initiate is taught, through understanding of this type of symbolism, that the four aspects of man must be balanced in order to lead a happy, healthy, and productive life. As you will see when dealing with elemental symbolism, spirit can also be repesentative of the balanced unification of the masculine and feminine aspects of human beings.

Seasons of the Witch – Legends and Lore, Ancient Holidays And Some Not So Ancient!

Today Is …

Consus, the God of the Grain-store, was celebrated annually on this date by the ancient Romans. Sacrifices were made in his honor, and all beasts of burden were embellished with wreaths of flowers and given a day of rest.

The Festival of Krishna is celebrated annually on this day in the country of India. It is also a sacred day dedicated to Devaki, the Mother-Goddess.

Procession of the Witches in Belgium. Sounds like fun! Gather your witchy friends and have a parade, even it it’s only in your backyard.

Egyptian; Procession of Bast; Birthday of Nut

Egypt/Kemet: Feast of the Nativity of Isis, the Goddess of 10,000 Names. She is an ancient Goddess who assisted her husband, Osiris, in civilizing the people of the Nile. She taught them how to grind corn, to spin flax, and to weave cloth. She is the guide of all wives, mothers, healers, advocates, and teachers; the patron of magic, learning, love, and motherhood; the power of the Pharaohs. She is usually portrayed wearing a throne on her head. She is Goddess of day while her sister Nephthys is Goddess of night. There are many stories of Isis, but the most well known is how she conceived a child with Osiris after he had been killed by Set. He had cut the body of Osiris into 14 pieces and cast them into the Nile. Isis, with the help of Nephthys, recovered all but one part. This was the phallus, which had been swallowed by a fish. Using her magic, she brought all of Osiris’s parts together and reformed him whole. He became the first mummy when she embalmed his body, with the help of Anubis, thus restoring him to eternal life. The child of their post-resurrection tryst was Horus.

India: Festival of Krishna – a celebration of the rebirth of Lord Vishnu to his incarnation as the God Krishna. It was Krishna who revealed the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna.

Rome: Volturnalia, the festival dedicated to Volturnus, ‘God of the Waters,’ God of fountains; a tribal river god who later was identified as God of the Tiber river. The Volturnus River, in southern Italy, is named for him. Volturnus was the father of the Goddess Juturna, who was first identified with a spring in Latium near the Numicus River and later with a pool near the temple of Vesta in the Forum of Rome. They were both honored on this day with feasting, wine-drinking and games by Romans.

Thursday is also associated (in Greek mythology) to Thor – Thor’s day – and some even say that Jupiter and Thor are one in the same. Both are strong and powerful, yet wise and just. Try a small prayer to Jupiter before commencing any ritual on Thursday as a sign of respect. This is the proper day of the week to perform spells and rituals involving luck, happiness, health, legal matters, male fertility, treasure, wealth, honour, riches, clothing, money, desires, business, group pursuits, joy, laughter, and expansion

Thursday’s Witchery

celtic winged fairyThursday’s Witchery

Today is the day for prosperity work of all kinds. It can also be used for healing work, whether that is a physical healing of an illness or an emotional healing. Also remember that you have to follow up your healing work and prosperity magick and physical action.

I can’t tell you the number of times I have met new witches who complain to me that their prosperity spell or “I need a better job” spell did not work as they expected. They’ll ramble on and on about how much time and money they spent working their magick….but, alas, they had no glorious manifestion of wealth or fabulous job that suddenly dropped out of the sky and landed in their laps.

Then, when I gently ask them, “Did you enchant your resume or application when you filled it out? Did you do a little confidence-boosting spellwork when you went to apply for the job or went to the interview?” typically they give me a blank, confused stare.

Nine times out of ten, their response is, “You mean I have to go out and actually look for the job too?” Um, yes, my dear, you certainly do. Magick follows the path of least resistance, which means it’s going to manifest along the simplest, quickest route. Get out there and hit the pavement. See what you can find. Times are tough and competition for good jobs is fierce, so you need whatever edge you can get. For folks like us, we’re going to get the edge by using our magick and our spellcraft.

Thursdays have such a rich source of magick for us to draw upon that, honestly, the sky is the limit. This is the day associated with the gods of the sky and heavens, after all. Get to know these deities and add their wisdom and magick into your days

Thursday

Thursday

Jupiter’s (Thor’s) day

The name is derived from Old English Þūnresdæg and Middle English Thuresday (with loss of -n-, first in northern dialects, from influence of Old Norse Þorsdagr) meaning “Thor’s Day”. Thunor, Donar (German, Donnerstag) and Thor are derived from the name of the Germanic god of thunder, Thunraz, equivalent to Jupiter in the interpretatio romana.

In most Romance languages, the day is named after the Roman god Jupiter, who was the god of sky and thunder. In Latin, the day was known as Iovis Dies, “Jupiter’s Day”. In Latin, the genitive or possessive case of Jupiter was Iovis/Jovis and thus in most Romance languages it became the word for Thursday: Italian giovedì, Spanish jueves, French jeudi, Sardinian jòvia, Catalan dijous, and Romanian joi. This is also reflected in the p-Celtic Welsh dydd Iau.

The astrological and astronomical sign of the planet Jupiter is sometimes used to represent Thursday.

Since the Roman god Jupiter was identified with Thunor (Norse Thor in northern Europe), most Germanic languages name the day after this god: Torsdag in Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish, Hósdagur/Tórsdagur in Faroese, Donnerstag in German or Donderdag in Dutch. Finnish and Northern Sami, both non-Germanic (Uralic) languages, uses the borrowing “Torstai” and “Duorastat”. In the extinct Polabian Slavic language, it was perundan, Perun being the Slavic equivalent of Thor.

There are a number of modern names imitating the naming of Thursday after an equivalent of “Jupiter” in local tradition. In most of the languages of India, the word for Thursday is Guruvar- var meaning day and guru being the style for Bṛhaspati, guru to the gods and regent of the planet Jupiter. In Thai, the word is Wan Pharuehatsabodi – referring to the Hindu deity Bṛhaspati, also associated with Jupiter. En was an old Illyrian deity and in his honor in the Albanian language Thursday is called “Enjte”. In the Nahuatl language, Thursday is Tezcatlipotōnal meaning “day of Tezcatlipoca”.

Halfway

Can’t we meet halfway
I have mine
You have yours
Can we all get along
Why does it always have to be war
I ask how much more pain
Before we are no more
Not for just some
But for all
I know it’s a dream
It’s one we all share
Can we work as a team
I don’t like going nowhere
Now just let it be
So no one loses their dream
Now I bid you with peace

Magickal Goody of the Day for August 25th – Pentacle Dream catcher

Magickal Goody of the Day

Pentacle Dream catcher

A pentacle dream catcher is not difficult to make. It requires a circular ring; even a large curtain ring will do. You will also need some thread, string, or heavy crocheting thread to weave the design upon this ring. If you really want to be decorative, you can string tiny beads on the thread and attach little feathers where the string is wound around the ring.

To begin, tie one end of the thread to the ring. Wind the thread around the opposite side of the ring three times at a slight angle from the original attachment, pulling it tight. This will be part of the left leg of the pentacle. Each time you attach the thread to the ring, wind it three times.

Now wind the thread about the ring a short distance from the 1st tying. Your design should look like an inverted V-shape. Pulling the string to the let side of the ring, wind it about the ring a little more than half-way up the side. Adjust it until it looks like the lower angle of the cross-arm of teh pentacle. Now stretch the thread across to the opposite side and wind it about the ring. For the finishing angle, pull the thread back to the point of the beginning.

If you carefully check the angle of the thread each time you prepare to wind it at another point on the ring, you can adjust the design. Make a small loop for hanging at the top of the pentacle.

If you want to string beads on the thread, do it on each section before you wind the thread around the ring. I’ve seen one pentacle dream catcher decorated with a Samhain artificial cobweb and a tiny spider in the center.

Dream catchers do work. They are symbols of personal control over dreams. And the subconscious mind which creates dreams only understands symbols.

Deity of the Day for Tuesday, August 25th is Bellona, Roman Goddess of War

Deity of the Day

Bellona

Roman Goddess of War

Bellona was an Ancient Roman goddess of war. She was called the sister of Mars, and in some sources, his wife or an associate of his female cult partner Nerio. Bellona’s main attribute is the military helmet worn on her head, and she often holds a sword, a shield, or other weapons of battle.

Politically, all Roman Senate meetings relating to foreign war were conducted in the Templum Bellonæ (Temple of Bellona) on the Collis Capitolinus outside the pomerium, near the Temple of Apollo Sosianus. The fetiales, a group of priest advisors, conducted ceremonies to proclaim war and peace, and announce foreign treaties at the columna bellica, in front of her temple.

The name Bellona is transparently derived from the Latin word bellum “war”—the older form Duellona demonstrates its antiquity, showing the same sound change as duellum.

In art, she is portrayed with a helmet on her head, usually wearing a breastplate or plate armour, bearing a sword, spear, shield, or other weaponry, sometimes holding a flaming torch or sounding the Horn of Victory and Defeat. In heraldic crests, she may be shown as a goddess with spread feathered wings bearing a helmet or coronet.

Ammianus Marcellinus, in describing the Roman defeat at the Battle of Adrianople refers to “Bellona, blowing her mournful trumpet, was raging more fiercely than usual, to inflict disaster on the Romans”.

Near the beginning of Shakespeare’s Macbeth (I.ii.54), Macbeth is introduced as a violent and brave warrior when the Thane of Ross calls him “Bellona’s bridegroom” (i.e. Mars). In Henry IV, Part I, Hotspur describes her as “the fire-eyed maid of smoky war” (IV.i.119). And in The Two Noble Kinsmen (1613), set in pre-Roman Athens, the sister of Hippolyta will solicit her divine aid for Theseus against Thebes (I.iii.13).

The goddess has also proved popular in post-Renaissance art as a female embodiment of military virtue, and an excellent opportunity to portray the feminine form in armour and helmet.

The composer Francesco Bianchi and the librettist Lorenzo da Ponte together created a Cantata first performed in London on 11 March 1797 & called Le nozze del Tamigi e Bellona, (The Wedding of the Thames and Bellona), to mark the British naval victory over the Spanish at the Battle of Cape St Vincent.

Also, the “Temple of Bellona” was a popular choice of name for the small mock-temples that were a popular feature of 18th- and 19th-century English landscaped gardens (e.g. William Chambers’s 1760 Temple of Bellona for Kew Gardens, a small Doric temple with a four-column facade to contain plaques honouring those who served in the Seven Years’ War of 1756–64).

First World War poet Edgell Rickwood wrote a poem “The Traveller” where he marches toward the front line in company of Art, the God Pan and the works of essayist Walter Pater. As they approach the active war, they meet Bellona. One by one the pleasurable companions are forced to flee by the violence of war, until Bellona rejoices in having him to herself.

Samuel R. Delany’s 1975 novel Dhalgren is set in the city of Bellona.

The detective novel The Unpleasantness at the Bellona Club by Dorothy L Sayers is set at a fictional London club whose membership is composed of active or retired military officers, and is named after the goddess.
