Lynette Has Up-Date Lady A’s Go Fund Me Page
Up-Date On Lady A
Magickal Necessities Is Still Open
Up Date December 28,2018
Kit is due to get out of the hospital within the next few days. She doesn’t even own a coat or a pair of shoes to keep her warm. We cannot imagine what it is like to lose everything you have but she can, she watched the nightmare unfold right in front of her. I just wanted to make her life a little easier when she did get out. I have this image in my mind of her leaning up against a tree, in extreme pain because the bone is stuck through her skin, in complete horror, all by herself watching everything she owned go up in the fire. Hoping and praying it was a horrible nightmare only to get out of the hospital and find out it was really, very real. She worked hard for everything she had. She never asked for hand outs. But she has to start over and she needs our help desperately. In the middle of winter and not even a coat to wear, I can’t imagine that.
The doctors also informed us that her left leg is in such a mess from the automobile wreck now jumping out the window to keep from burning to death, that she might be in a wheelchair for the rest of her life. She can stand and put some weight on it but to walk a distance is another story. Perhaps as time goes on she can use it or as medicine advances but right now it doesn’t look that good. The man who started the fire not only destroyed everything she owned but also took away her quality of life. Such a beautiful lady for this to happen too, it is a horrible tragedy.
If you can donate a little, please do so. If not, pass this on. Thank you.

Lady A’s beautiful little familiar. She calls him Kade. We call him flying Fido. She is seriously depressed and we are trying our best to cheer her up and get her mind off of things. But she tells us, when she is alone in the hospital all that is all she can think about. She can’t seem to get her mind off of it.As We Say Good Day, A Smudging Prayer to Close Out The Year With…

Your Daily Horoscopes for Thursday, December 28th
Aries

Venus newly at the top of your solar chart receives support from the Moon today, dear Aries. You’re looking good now, and you’re inclined to make smart moves with business and money, as well. You’re less focused on emotional whims and more interested in getting comfortable and settling in today. Your money situation, valuables, and comfort needs assume more importance now. While the inclination with this brief transit is to stick with safe, familiar, and comfortable settings and tasks, try to keep the lines of communication open with others today, as there can be valuable things to learn. There can be an exciting connection made with information or a person that illuminates your way on a creative or romantic pursuit.
Taurus

There is a fresh feeling to the morning, dear Taurus, as the Moon moves into your sign and pulls you out of your shell. This transit can bring a pleasant rush of energy to your life and a desire to begin anew or to enjoy a new experience. Emotions are more transparent than they have been in recent days. You incline to go your own way with this transit, but today is excellent for sharing ideas with others, so be sure to let others in. There can be connections made that help further home and family-related goals today, and links can be with people or information that point you in the right direction. The Moon reaches out to the Sun, Saturn, and Venus in your adventure sector, further stimulating a desire to look forward and move on. In fact, you recognize the practical benefits of focusing on the future.
Gemini

The Moon moves into your solar twelfth house early today, dear Gemini, arousing a desire to tuck yourself away. You now begin a short (two-day) cycle that demands some form of withdrawal, retreat, or extra time carved out for rest and reflection. It’s not the best time to “go hard” in your life, so aim to take things easy, contemplate matters, and process recent feelings and events. Nevertheless, the energies of the day put you in a prime position to learn something exciting or valuable about a friendship or cherished project today, so be sure to open up some lines of communication with others. You may very well feel far more in sync than usual with a partner or special friend now.
Cancer

Very early today, the Moon moves into your social sector, dear Cancer, and you begin to more deeply connect with the need for undemanding situations and people around you. You’re seeking light, happy company now, or you’re in a particularly forward-looking mood, and you’re inclined to focus on plans and goals related to personal fulfillment. This positive emotional orientation helps you stay alert to possible opportunities to advance your interests that may arise with Mercury and the North Node in harmony. This can be a time for connecting with the right people or information that support your income, financial state, or current business interests. It’s also a time when helpful clarifications related to work or health are more likely to arrive.
Leo

The Moon moves to the top of your solar chart very early today, dear Leo, and this can put you in a rather earnest, serious, or responsible frame of mind. Career matters, life-path plans, responsibilities, and long-term goals come into stronger focus at this time of the lunar month. You’re also getting noticed, and it’s what you do or what you’ve done that gets the most attention now. As a result, you’re doing some checking in with the rules or your own goals, which in turn can motivate you to push a little more, up your game, and do your best. Today is solid for clarifying a relationship or creative matter. Connections may be made to people or information that help you push your personal plans forward.
Virgo

Very early today, the Moon moves into harmony with your sign and into your house of spirit, dear Virgo. The past couple of days have been valuable for much-needed introspection, but now you’re very interested in what’s to come. You may be seeking some form of escape from the regular. There is more spontaneity in your approach to the day. Even so, you’re in a practical frame of mind. This is one of the clearer times that you’ve had for some time, and family projects or discussions can begin to really move forward – at least, you start to feel that you’re making a whole lot of progress. Conversations may very well lead to important discoveries about yourself and the people you love today.
Libra

The Moon leaves your partnership sector and enters your intimacy sector very early today, dear Libra. You’re looking at the world a little differently now, taking on an observer’s role. You may find yourself in the position to play detective, and this can be quite welcome and pleasant! It can be a time of valuable — or at the very least, enjoyable –investigating, researching, and analyzing. You gravitate towards projects, relationships, and situations that pull you in and demand your full attention. It’s a good time for making connections, however, so be sure to tear yourself away from your explorations from time to time today. Or, keep your ear to the ground as there can be the inspiration for new ideas, dreams, and goals incoming through news you hear or people you meet today and tomorrow.
Scorpio

The Moon moves out of your routine sector and into your partnership sector very early today, dear Scorpio, kicking off a more social phase. This is a good time of the lunar month for giving close relationships special attention. It’s also a time when you seek out others for company, feedback, and companionship more than usual. While you’re leaving a work-focused phase behind, don’t entirely ignore business or career-related news and ideas, as this can be a day for discovering valuable information that can further your professional goals. In fact, you may gain refreshing clarity along these lines now.
Sagittarius

The Moon settles into your health and work sector very early today, dear Sagittarius. While it’s only for two days, it’s a fine time of the lunar month to get cracking on duties, chores, work, or health routines. This can be particularly refreshing if you’ve been putting these things off. You want to be useful or productive now, and you can make a serious dent in your “to do” list. You’ll find it easy, much of the day, to tuck away your emotions enough to take care of business, although this can change tonight when you’re quick to react. Also today, there can be news or incoming information about courses and opportunities that are likely to benefit you, so tune in to the rest of the world here and there!
Capricorn

Very early today, the Moon pulls you out of your shell, dear Capricorn, as it moves into your colorful, playful solar fifth house after spending a couple of days in your sector of home, family, nurture, and sustenance. You drop some of your inhibitions and fears at this point in the lunar cycle, and you’re ready to share some of your unique self with others. As playful as you may be feeling, certain conversations and connections deserve your undivided attention today. A matter that was recently up in the air may clear up now, helping you clear the path for new beginnings. A conversation about private issues, a secret, or a matter of the past can be significant and perhaps even quite liberating.
Aquarius

The Moon leaves your communications zone very early today, dear Aquarius, and enters your home and family sector for a couple of days. This is a time for a hiatus of sorts, whether it’s merely about unplugging for a bit or getting extra time to sleep in. Honor your needs for familiarity, comfort, and rest away from the demands and concerns of the outside world when possible now, but do allow some of it in with a Mercury-North Node connection today that points to clarity and a sense of forward movement on a matter. It may take the form of a renewed or second-chance conversation, stumbling upon information, or a chance meeting with an old friend that gives you more clarity in the relationship department.
Pisces

Very early today, the Moon moves into your communications sector, dear Pisces, and you’re likely to experience an increased need for stimulation, especially of the mental variety. This cycle is a brief one, only lasting for just over two days, but it’s useful for putting your feelers out, information gathering, making contact, and getting out and about. A Mercury-North Node influence today helps connect you with people or information that further your career or health goals, so your inclination to include others and network helps you even more than first meets the eye. This can be a time for gaining increased clarity about a life-path goal, project, or job that feels like growth and improvement.

Get A Jump on Tomorrow…..
Your Daily Horoscopes for Friday, December 29th
Aries

Today’s energies are primarily peaceful, dear Aries, and you’re in a good position to slow down and enjoy the moment. Mind you, this morning you could be battling a bit of restlessness or indecision, as part of you might feel you should be more involved than you are. Priorities may be hard to decide upon, but if you examine things carefully, you’ll get to the right decision. Excess spending or borrowing can be an issue now. Take steps to wind down, which gets easier and, in fact, quite natural as the day advances.
Taurus

This is a great day for taking some extra “me time” and pampering yourself, dear Taurus. While this morning’s energies tend to find you a little restless, it’s best to avoid the temptation to overdo or overindulge. Others’ demands on you may feel a little excessive. Or, you may be attempting to please someone and at the same time striving for independence. However, you’d do yourself the biggest favor by pacing yourself. Excess has a price even if the payment is deferred. You’re better off keeping things even and smooth now so that you don’t start off at a disadvantage tomorrow.
Gemini

The day is best used to unwind, take things easy, and release tension, dear Gemini. The Moon continues to spend time in the sign just behind yours, pointing to a need for reflection and a bit of anonymity before busier days ahead. This morning, a dichotomy or difficult choice can lead you to consider imbalances in your life. Something has to give in order to balance your life better, particularly when it comes to working and resting, or tending to physical needs and tending to emotional/mental needs. Today also holds the potential for better understanding a complex relationship or your own complicated feelings, once you get past the early morning restlessness.
Cancer

The Moon spends the day in your sector of dreams, hopes, happiness, and friendship, dear Cancer, and is void most of the regular waking hours, pointing to a real need — or excuse — to unwind and treat yourself to light activities. It’s not an ambitious time today, and it’s best to treat the day as a time for catching your breath. A Full Moon will occur in your sign in just three days, and in fact, will happen on the first day of the new year, and personal epiphanies are likely to be significant. For now, give yourself a break! Relationships also deserve a light touch.
Leo

The day’s energies encourage and reward simplicity, dear Leo. Even so, early today can find your undecided or restless. While the Moon at the top of your chart usually keeps you on your toes, the Moon is void for most of the day’s regular waking hours, and taking it easy makes the most sense now. You can nevertheless muse about your goals and keep your responsibilities in mind, but avoid pushing yourself or projects that could have a rough time of it if you went ahead with them. You’ll be in the best shape if you take time to relax and center yourself now and pursue your ambitions later.
Virgo

The Moon spends the day in your sector of spirit and in harmony with your sign, dear Virgo. It’s also void for much of the day, giving you the license to enjoy yourself without pressure or guilt. The trick will be allowing yourself to take this time! As well, this morning could find you a little tense or in a situation of “too much information.” Too many choices can be overwhelming. You have a bigger than usual appetite for taking on new interests or developing existing ones, but the temptation may be to go overboard with this. Try to focus on releasing tension now. Give yourself a break today.
Libra

It can be a little too easy to overdo spending or other indulgences now, dear Libra, but as the day moves forward, you’re in a great position to simplify. In truth, if you want to treat yourself, streamlining is the route to take – it comes with less guilt and consequences. As well, focusing on your inner goals and values will do much more for your happiness than too much focus on external signs of success. The Moon spends another day in your intimacy sector, and you’re inclined to embrace your deeper feelings rather than push them to the side. It’s an excellent time to enjoy family or home life, or domestic activities, as well.
Scorpio

Mars and Jupiter are both in your sign, dear Scorpio, and they’re heading towards an alignment that will be exact on January 6th. Even though it’s more than a week away, these planets are very close to one another now, and there can be a building sense of excitement and enterprise as you end the year and begin a new one. You can feel increasingly motivated to do something special, and you have all the courage and resourcefulness to make your mark. Pay particular attention to your urges and hunches as you can be heading towards great things. Today, the Moon is in your opposing sign, however, and is void most of the day, suggesting it’s best not to push yourself, anyone, or anything. Let your imagination go.
Sagittarius

Today’s energies are easygoing as long as you keep things simple, dear Sagittarius. If you try to push things, however, you can feel the resistance! Early today, you may be doing battle with yourself. There’s the part of you that just wants to tuck yourself away and the other part that is super motivated to shine in your routines, work, or daily affairs. Seek out a balance for best results now. Today doesn’t support ambitious or bold moves, so aim to take it easy and go with the flow. Conserve your energy for opportunity periods.
Capricorn

The Moon spends the day in harmony with your sign, dear Capricorn, and this tends to make things easy for you. Even so, there is a stubborn quality to the day’s energies, and if you’re feeling raring to go and ready for action, you may very well meet some resistance. It may be best to enjoy some release of ambitions, tension, or pressure, and take things easy now. The trick is to allow yourself the luxury! Brand new endeavors are more likely to face obstacles, anyhow, and you’re likely to benefit from a slower, reasonable pace.
Aquarius

The Moon spends another day at the bottom of your solar chart, dear Aquarius, encouraging you to take it easy. This morning, the Moon does brief battle with Jupiter at the top of your chart, and Jupiter is motivating you to grow, improve, and perform. As big as a draw this may be, you’re unlikely to get very far today with the Moon’s void that spans most of the regular waking hours. The energies of the day reward the easygoing, and it’s a good idea to honor your need to wind down and play it safe just for now.
Pisces

You have both Mars and Jupiter in your solar eleventh house motivating and exciting you about new projects, initiatives, causes, and social events or friendships these days, dear Pisces. As they move closer to alignment this week and next, your enterprising side is alive and well. You may be on the verge of a brand new and innovative endeavor. Today, however, is better for rest and comforting, emotionally centering activities, even if you need to enforce this frame of mind. You could benefit from a break to get your bearings, and you’ll be happy you took it!

Tarot Card of the Day
The Star

The Star Tarot card is about reconnecting one’s soul with the divine — the transcending of personality, family, community, and reputation. It has to do ultimately with the freedom to be one’s self. The soul is responding to celestial influences — forces that can provide the personality with a stronger sense of purpose. The Star card helps us to remember our exalted origins and our attraction to a higher union.
This card could also be called The Celestial Mandate — that which refers us back to our reason for being, our mission in this lifetime. The Star reminds us that, in a sense, we are agents of divine will in our day-to-day lives. If we let go of the idea that we are supposed to be in control, we can more easily notice and appreciate the synchronicities that are nudging us along. In this way, we become more conscious of the invisible helping hand, and we better understand our place within — and value to — the larger cosmos.

Ask yourself these types of questions as you look at the Tarot card to help yourself understand the lesson it’s trying to impart.

Position 7: Your Clarity Card
Your personal theme for the year
Even though you have examined the lessons of the past, chosen your aim, and even looked at how to reach it, you may still need to find clarity. In this case, maybe focus on the big picture — how does all of this fit into your overall life plan? What type of person are you hoping to become? What does this mean for your higher purpose? Your Earth Sky News for Nov. 25th: Bellatrix, in Orion, means Female Warrior

Tonight, look for Bellatrix, the third-brightest star in Orion. Although often overlooked in contrast to Orion’s two brightest stars – Betelgeuse and Rigel – Bellatrix is a wonderful star. You can see it tonight, despite the evening moonlight.
The classic book on star names is Richard Hinckley Allen’s Star Names: Their Lore and Meaning. The book suggests the Latin name Bellatrix means Female Warrior, and that some find that name odd since the original Arabic title translates as Conqueror. But women understand. Bellatrix represents Orion’s left shoulder. Although it appears only as the 22nd brightest star in our sky, in reality it’s a hot, blue giant some 240 light-years away.
Also look for the the star Saiph. The four stars Betelgeuse, Rigel, Bellatrix and Saiph form the familiar rectangle of Orion. The name Saiph comes from the Arabic name meaning the Sword of the Giant. Saiph is a blazing hot supergiant star 720 light-years away.
The constellation Orion takes center stage this month and rightly so. With so many bright stars, it’s one of the most prominent constellations in the sky. You’ll find Orion climbing over the eastern horizon around 7 to 8 p.m. local time.
Bottom line: Rigel and Betelgeuse are Orion’s brightest stars. We briefly describe 2 more bright stars in Orion, Bellatrix and Saiph.

A man is struck by a bus on a busy street in New York City. He lies dying on the sidewalk as a crowd of spectators gathers around.
“A priest. Somebody get me a priest!” the man gasps. A policeman checks the crowd – no priest, no minister, no man of God of any kind.
“A PRIEST, PLEASE!” the dying man says again.
Then out of the crowd steps a little old Jewish man of at least eighty years of age.
“Mr. Policeman,” says the man, “I’m not a priest. I’m not even a Catholic. But for fifty years now I’m living behind St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church on First Avenue, and every night I’m listening to the Catholic litany. So maybe I can be of some comfort to this poor dying man.”
The policeman agreed and brought the octogenarian over to where the dying man lay. He kneels down, leans over the injured and says in a solemn voice,
“B-4. I-19. N-38. G-54. O-72. . .”

The Witches Digest for Thursday, December 28th
(Part 1)

Today is Thursday, December 28th
Thursday is the day of the planet Jupiter, dedicated to Thunor(Thor), God of thunder and agricultural work. His parallels in various European traditions are Zeus, Taranis, Perun, Perkunas and St. Olaf. The faith of the Northern Tradition holds Thursday sacred, just as Islam reveres Friday, Judaism the Sabbath(calculated from sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday), and Christianity, Sunday. This is why almost all adages about Thursday are positive, such as “Thursday’s child has far to go,” “Sneeze on Thursday, something better,” or “Cut nails on Thursday for wealth.” Thursday rules controlled optimism, energetic growth, physical well-being and material success.

Bairns’ Day/Holy Innocents’s Day/Runic half-month of Eoh commences/Egyptian Day
Holy Innocents’ Day or Bairns’ Day, commemorates Herod’s slaughter of infant boys under the age of two. Folk tradition considers Bairns’ Day by far the unluckiest day of the year, when no work should be started. This is the month of rune Eoh, representing the dead, and the year tree, sacred to winter shamanism.

Today, December 28th, We Celebrate the Goddess of the Month, Hestia
Hestia
Greek Goddess of the Hearth and Domestic Life
Hestia was the goddess of the hearth, home, architecture, domesticity, family, and the state. She was one of only three virgin goddesses, next to ATHENA and ARTEMIS. Although both POSEIDON and APOLLO wanted to marry her, Hestia made an oath to ZEUS that she would remain forever pure and undefiled, never entering into a union with a man.
She is a goddess of the Olympian generation, daughter of Cronus and Rhea and sister to Zeus, Poseidon, HADES, DEMETER and HERA. When Cronus swallowed his children for fear one would dethrone him, Hestia was the eldest and thus swallowed first.
After Zeus forced his father to disgorge his children, Hestia was the last to be yielded up, making her both the oldest and the youngest daughter.
As the goddess of the hearth she personified the fire burning in the hearth of every home in Greece. Hestia receiving the first offering at every sacrifice in the household with families pouring sweet wine in her name and dedicating the richest portion of food to her.
The hearth fire in the household was not allowed to go out by any family unless it was ritually distinguished. Though Hestia did not have a public cult, she was worshipped at any temple, regardless of the god the temple was dedicated to. Hestia is described as a kind, forgiving and discreet goddess with a passive, non-confrontational nature.
Hestia was the eldest daughter of Cronos and Rhea.
As with the rest of his children, Cronos ate her but eventually regurgitated her.
She was a sibling to Demeter, Hades, Poseidon, Hera, and Zeus.
She was primarily known the Goddess of the Hearth.
Of all the gods and goddesses, she was considered the gentlest and mildest. Others, critically, have called her colorless because there is little information provided in regard to her character.
Although Hestia appeared in a few stories, she was not overly significant in Greek mythology.
Hestia is completely omitted from the works of Homer, author of the Iliad and the Odyssey.
Poets such as Apollodorous, Hesiod, and Ovid allude to her in their works.
Each city had a public hearth that was sacred to Hestia; the fire kindled there was never allowed to go out.
New colonies took fire from the hearth in the prytaneion (also known as the town hall) and kept the fires going in those new locations.
Every meal began and ended with an offering to Hestia.
Like Athena and Artemis, Hestia was referred to as a virgin goddess.
Although Apollo and Poseidon proposed marriage to Hestia, she requested of Zeus to remain a maiden forever.
Domestic life was her dominion in spite of her desire to remain a virgin.
She was one of only twelve Olympian deities.
Her name literally means “hearth”; appropriately, her priorities were family and community.
Children were accepted into the family by being presented at Hestia’s hearth. This observed first step ensured the goddess’s blessing on the new addition.
Vesta was the Roman equivalent to Hestia.
Public and private worship of Hestia was widespread.
She represented communal security and personal happiness.
Because Hestia remained a virgin, it follows that she had no children.

Thursday–The Day of Thor
Thor, the Thunderer, is perhaps the most famous of the gods of the Northmen, and was considered by some to be greater even than Odin. He was the God of the Peasants–the poor people, while Odin was thought more of by the rich people and the great fighters. Thor usually rode in a chariot of brass, drawn by two goats, Tooth-cracker and Tooth-gnasher, and it was this chariot which was supposed to make the thunder; hence Thor’s name. Thor, alone of all the gods, was never allowed to cross the bridge joining Asgard and the earth, lest this chariot should break it down.
As the Thunderer, Thor corresponded to Jupiter, who, as we have read, hurled thunderbolts when enraged, and for this reason Thor’s name was given to the Roman Dies Jovis, the day of Jupiter, the modern French jeudi.
Thor was of very great strength, like Hercules among the Greeks and Romans, and possessed a wonderful hammer called Miolnir, the Crusher, which always returned to his hand when he had thrown it at an enemy. He also wore a magic belt which increased his strength the more he pulled it in. The way in which Miolnir came to be made is told in a story of Thor’s wife Sif, who was very proud of her golden hair, which reached down to her feet. One morning Thor woke to find that Sif’s hair had been cruelly cut off during the night. Filled with anger, he set out to find the culprit, whom he rightly guessed to be Loki, the God of Fire. Loki was the spirit of evil and mischief, and was always playing cruel tricks on the gods, who frequently punished him. Thor soon caught Loki, and would have strangled him had he not promised to bring Sif a new head of hair as beautiful as the first. Thor then released Loki, who quickly went to the home of the dwarfs, who lived underground. There he found a dwarf who agreed to make the hair for Loki, and also presents for Odin and Frey, the God of the Fields, whom Loki was afraid would be angry with him. The dwarf made a head of hair of the finest gold thread, which he said would grow on Sif’s head as soon as it touched it. Then he made the spear Gungnir which, as we have seen, Odin always carried with him; while for Frey he made a ship which could sail through the air as well as on the water, and could be folded up like a cloth. Loki was of course delighted with the skill of this clever little smith, and declared that no other dwarf could be as clever. This led to a challenge from another dwarf, who claimed that he could make three still more wonderful things. This dwarf in his turn made a wild boar with golden bristles, which travelled through the air, and gave out a bright light as it passed; a magic ring, out of which came eight more rings exactly like it every ninth night; and lastly an iron hammer, Miolnir, which no one could resist. Loki and the dwarf then gave their presents to the gods: the spear and the ring to Odin, the ship and the golden boar to Frey, and the hair and the hammer to Thor. The gods decided that the contest had been won by the second dwarf, because Miolnir would be of such great use against the frost-giants, with whom the gods were continually fighting.
Thor often journeyed to the land of the giants, and on one occasion, having set out with Loki, he reached the desolate giant-country at nightfall. A thick mist covered the ground, and, after struggling on with some difficulty, the gods came to what seemed to be a house with an open doorway which took up all one side of the building. The gods entered the house, which was cold and dark, and, tired with their journey, lay down to sleep. Their rest, however, was soon disturbed by a loud noise and the trembling of the ground, and, fearing the roof of the house might fall on them, Thor and his companion moved into a smaller room which led out of the main building, and there slept till dawn. On going out into the open the next morning, Thor saw lying near an enormous giant, whose snores shook the ground, and was thus able to account for the noise and the trembling of the earth which had disturbed his sleep. But imagine the astonishment of the gods when the giant woke and picked up the house they had slept in–they had passed the night in the thumb of his glove! Thor and his companion then continued their journey, accompanied now by the giant, whose name was Skrymir. When evening came, they rested beneath a tree, and the giant, before going to sleep, offered them the food which he carried in his wallet. Thor, however, was unable to undo the straps of the huge wallet, so the gods had to go hungry. Angry at this, Thor dealt the giant, who was now asleep, three terrible blows on the head with his hammer Miolnir. But the only effect this had on the giant was to cause him to wake up and complain that three times a leaf or a twig had fallen on his head. The next morning Skrymir showed the gods the way to the castle of Utgard-loki, the giant king, and then left them. Arriving at the palace, the gods entered and presented themselves to the king, who recognized them and asked them to show him their powers of which he had heard so much. Loki, who was very hungry, offered to eat more than anyone, and the king’s cook was matched against him. They each stood at the end of a wooden trough full of meat, and though Loki soon reached the middle of the trough, leaving nothing but bones behind, he found that the giant had eaten the bones and the trough as well. Loki’s defeat made Thor even more anxious to show his powers, and he offered to empty the largest drinking-horn in the palace. A huge drinking-horn was at once brought in, and Thor drank so deep and so long that it seemed as if he would never stop, only to find, however, when he could drink no more, that the horn was still almost full. Nothing daunted by his failure, Thor now offered to show his strength, but when he tried to lift Utgard-loki’s cat, he only succeeded in raising one paw from the ground. Thor tried yet again to show his skill, this time in wrestling, but he was easily beaten by Utgard-loki’s old nurse. The gods were then entertained by the giants till the following day, when they returned. Before they left, however, Utgard-loki explained that he was the giant Skrymir, and that he had used magic against the gods in all their contests. By magic he had placed a mountain between his head and Thor’s hammer and thus saved his life, for the blows had made three huge clefts in the mountain. The cook who had beaten Loki was really Wild Fire; the end of the drinking-horn which Thor had failed to empty had been placed in the sea, which had sunk lower after Thor’s enormous draughts; the cat was really the huge snake Iormungandr, which encircled the earth, and which Thor had nearly lifted out of the sea; the nurse was really Old Age, whom, of course, no one could possibly overcome.
Thor seldom lost an opportunity of making war on the giants, and on a famous occasion challenged to single combat the giant Hrungnir, whose head and heart were of stone. Hrungnir one day matched his horse Golden Mane against Odin’s steed, Sleipnir, and, in the excitement of the race, followed Odin right to the gates of Valhalla. Though, of course, the presence of a giant in Asgard could not be allowed, the gods had no wish to take advantage of Hrungnir’s mistake, and offered him meat and drink in their banqueting hall. Hrungnir, however, drank too freely of the mead of the gods, and began to speak proud words and boast one day that he would overthrow Asgard and kill all the gods. This so enraged Thor that he raised his hammer to kill Hrungnir, but the gods would not allow him to shed blood within their home. He then challenged the giant to a duel, which was arranged to take place three days later on the boundary of Hrungnir’s kingdom. At the appointed time the giant was on the chosen spot awaiting his enemy, and, feeling the earth shaking beneath him, he stood on his shield of stone, lest Thor should come up from the ground. But no sooner had he done this than Thor suddenly came in sight and hurled his hammer straight at the giant’s head. Hrungnir, having no shield, tried to ward off the hammer with his stone club, which was shattered to pieces, thus scattering flint stones over the whole earth, where they may still be found. One piece entered Thor’s forehead, and he dropped fainting to the ground, but as lie fell his hammer struck Hrungnir on the head and killed him. Thor was pinned to the ground by one of the giant’s legs, and, after each of the gods had tried in vain to free him, he was at last rescued by Magni, his little son of three, who easily raised the giant’s leg and released his father, receiving as a reward Hrungnir’s horse, Golden Mane. Magni was one of the few gods destined to survive the terrible Ragnarok, the day of destruction, when, as we shall see, Thor, the Thunderer, fell in mortal combat with the sea-monster Iormungandr.
The Challenge of Thor
I am the God Thor,
I am the War God,
I am the Thunderer!
Here in my Northland,
My fastness and fortress,
Reign I for ever!
Here amid ice-bergs
Rule I the nations;
This is my hammer,
Miolner the mighty;
Giants and sorcerers
Cannot withstand it!
These are the gauntlets
Wherewith I wield it,
And hurl it afar off;
This is my girdle;
Whenever I brace it,
Strength is redoubled!
The light thou beholdest
Stream through the heavens,
In flashes of crimson,
Is but my red beard
Blown by the night-wind,
Affrighting the nations.
Jove is my brother;
Mine eyes are the lightning;
The wheels of my chariot
Roll in the thunder,
The blows of my hammer
Ring in the earthquake!
Force rules the world still,
Has ruled it, shall rule it;
Meekness is weakness,
Strength is triumphant,
Over the whole earth,
Still is it Thor’s-day!

The Witches Guide to Thursday
Today is the day for prosperity work of all kinds. It can also be used for healing work, whether that is a physical healing of an illness or an emotional healing. Also remember that you have to follow up your healing work and prosperity magick and physical action.
I can’t tell you the number of times I have met new witches who complain to me that their prosperity spell or “I need a better job” spell did not work as they expected. They’ll ramble on and on about how much time and money they spent working their magick….but, alas, they had no glorious manifestion of wealth or fabulous job that suddenly dropped out of the sky and landed in their laps.
Then, when I gently ask them, “Did you enchant your resume or application when you filled it out? Did you do a little confidence-boosting spellwork when you went to apply for the job or went to the interview?” typically they give me a blank, confused stare.
Nine times out of ten, their response is, “You mean I have to go out and actually look for the job too?” Um, yes, my dear, you certainly do. Magick follows the path of least resistance, which means it’s going to manifest along the simplest, quickest route. Get out there and hit the pavement. See what you can find. Times are tough and competition for good jobs is fierce, so you need whatever edge you can get. For folks like us, we’re going to get the edge by using our magick and our spellcraft.
Thursdays have such a rich source of magick for us to draw upon that, honestly, the sky is the limit. This is the day associated with the gods of the sky and heavens, after all. Get to know these deities and add their wisdom and magick into your days

Custom Made Magick for Thursday
Well, let’s see … abundance, prosperity, and good health has been our focus for this day. Now how about a little more information and ideas for working practical magick with one of our fascinating featured deities of the day?
Juno was the Queen of Heaven. As the matriarch of the gods, she guarded over women in every aspect of their lives. Juno was thought to have renewed her virginity every year. Similar to other goddess stories, Juno was a triple goddess-a virgin who belonged to no one; a mother and woman in the prime of her life, sexual and mature; and also a crone, powerful, wise, and sometimes vengeful (as she made her husband’s many mistresses’ lives either fairly unhappy or short).
There are references to an early all-female triad of goddesses known as the Capitoline Triad. This triad consisted of Juventas, Juno, and Minerva. To the Greeks, they would have been known as Hebe, Hera, and Hecate. Ultimately the triad became Juno, Minerva, and the male Jupiter. Jupiter, another of Thursday’s gods, was Juno’s consort.
As mentioned earlier, Juno, in her aspect as Juno Moneta, was the patron and protector of the Roman mint. The coins produced at her temples were blessed by Juno and imbued with her powers of abundance and prosperity. In another of her aspects as Juno Augusta, Juno was the goddess of an abundant harvest.
In addition, another of Juno’s magickal correspondences is the semiprecious stone malachite. Malachite is a beautiful green-banded stone that was also called the “peacock stone” in Italy. The peacock was a sacred animal of Juno’s, and the magickal energies of malachite encourage health and prosperity.

The Witches Magick for December 28th – Spell fo Get Rid of Bad Habits for the Coming New Year
Take a black candle which has been ritually cleansed and some anointing oil which has also been ritually blessed. Do not use anything for this which has not been cleansed or blessed already. Depending on the desired result, you should choose an oil which corresponds to this end. At the time of the new moon, or when it first begins to wane, cast a circle or use your 9′ cord to create a sacred space.
Place the black candle (preferable a taper) on the altar with the oil.
Have no unblessed/uncleansed tools in this ritual. Cast the circle. Call the Goddess and her consort.
Use a burin to engrave the candle with the spell you wish to cast. Now, anoint the candle using the oil. While you anoint the candle with the oil, speak these words out loud or silently
Tonight no moon, tomorrow the first one.
Let this be eroded till my will be done.
Candle burn down to remove all ill.
Let this spell be cast by the power of my will.
And once you have anointed the candle, place it in a safe place to it can burn down completely.

Celebrating Legends. Folklore & Spirituality 365 Days A Year for Thursday, December 28th – 29th
Holy Innocents’ Day, Feast of Fools
Holy Innocents’ Day is the third day of Christmas and considered to be the unluckiest day of year. It is held that on this day all children under 2 years of age were slaughtered by Herod in an atttempt to eliminate the Infant Jesus—the predicted king of the Jews. The star is associated with this day, and the Innocents are the patrons of all children and foundlings.
A popular holiday during the Middle Ages, the “Feast of Fools” captured the light-hearted spirit of Saturnalia. On this day, roles were reversed, masters waited on their servants, and the often=puritanical reverence of the Christmas season was replaced with vriolity and pleasure.

This Week’s Tarot Card Is the Queen of Cups
In this card, the Queen of Cups is seated on a watery throne and almost appears to be
part of the rippling blue stream running beneath. This card is deeply connected to the watery realm of feelings and intuition, representing a high level of emotional maturity and a strong empathetic ability. Like every other card in this spread so far, the Queen of Cups speaks to us about our involvement with others. The Queen of Cups is reliable and consistent, qualities that allow us to provide emotional support and understanding to others, and to delight in being of service to them. The calm, comforting energy of this card offers some relief after the challenges raised throughout this reading. The fiery energy of the Five of Wands from earlier in the month, and the excessive focus on the material in the two Pentacles cards, is resolved this week. Either someone is providing this relief for us, or we are being called on to be this calming, loving force for others. Either way, potential for love and support abounds, and we should allow that energy to flow through us. Stay open and receptive and practice compassion for those around you.
Actions from the Queen of Cups:
1. For the self: What person in your life comforts you when you need it? How does it feel to receive that care?
2. For another: Find a way this week to do something supportive for a person who has provided you needed comfort.

Cosmic Weather Forecast for Monday, December 25th
Jane Lyle, Astrologer
Monday 25th December: Happy Christmas!
We’re drawn to tales of the past, and the romance of wild places this Christmas.
Venus enters earthy Capricorn today, joining the Sun, Saturn, and Pluto in this dynamic cardinal sign. The Moon is in mystical, musical Pisces. In many ways, it’s a sentimental Yuletide holiday this year with a strong feeling for tradition and ritual.
2018 has much positive potential for quiet achievements and massively important changes in finance and politics. It will be a very tough year for those who resist restructuring and rebuilding – what needs reforming is already obvious, so if we can work with that, then changes can be made more constructively and have lasting value. As ever, we can always hope. Wishing you a very happy, fulfilling 2018!

1st quarter moon is December 25-26
The last first quarter of 2017 will come on December 26 at 09:20 UTC; translate UTC to your time zone. No matter where you are on Earth, watch for it – half-illuminated (or nearly so), looking like half a pie – on the evening of December 25. Or watch on the evenings of December 26 or 27, when the terminator line (line between light and dark on the moon) will appear ever-so-slightly convex.
A first quarter moon shows half of its lighted hemisphere – half of its day side – to Earth. At quarter moon, the part of the moon we see is half-illuminated by sunlight and half-immersed in the moon’s own shadow.
We call this moon a quarter and not a half because it is one quarter of the way around in its orbit of Earth, as measured from one new moon to the next. Also, although a first quarter moon appears half-lit to us, the illuminated portion we see of a first quarter moon truly is just a quarter. We’re now seeing half the moon’s day side, that is. Another lighted quarter of the moon shines just as brightly in the direction opposite Earth!
And what about the term half moon? That’s a beloved term, but not an official one.
A first quarter moon rises at noon and is highest in the sky at sunset. It sets around midnight. First quarter moon comes a week after new moon. Now, as seen from above, the moon in its orbit around Earth is at right angles to a line between the Earth and sun.

FOR THE WEEK OF MONDAY, DEC 25TH, 2017

General Horoscope
Matters of the heart become tempered with caution and sobriety this week. Venus will edge into Capricorn on Monday, a sign known for insecurity but also major commitment and durability when it comes to love. Venus remains here until February 10, 2018, reminding us of how important it is to take your relationship seriously, to value it and to not take it for granted. We’ll also focus more on the responsibilities that come with partnership, as well as shared burdens rather than carefree, easy breezy romantic bliss. In fact, on the same day Venus moves into Capricorn, she’ll immediately link up to Saturn, the planet of karma and lessons. If a romantic attachment is too weighty, it might crumble under this pressure. But if the commitment and love is durable enough, that pressure will turn your connection into a beautiful diamond. Either way, you’ll be seriously schooled in your love life.

Aries Horoscope MAR 21 – APR 19
Well, hello there you sexy, charismatic thing! Yes, that’s exactly what others will be thinking when you’re around them this week, Aries. You can count on it. Mars, your ruling planet, will make a glamourous link to mystical Neptune on Thursday, casting a spell of absolute movie-star sex appeal all over you. If you’re single, someone with emotional depths might become quite enamored with your vibe. If you’re in a relationship, then this will be a week of literal dream-come-true sexual experiences with your mate. What could be better?
-
-
-

Taurus Horoscope APR 20 – MAY 20
You’ll have a deeper yearning to explore the things that really matter with your sweetheart this week. Venus, your ruling planet, will move into the part of your chart concerned with broad perspectives about areas such as spirituality, philosophy, and morality. You’re serious about making sure that you and your love are on the same page concerning these areas, and that will be strikingly clear on Monday. If there’s a divide between you on core areas you feel you should be in agreement on, then there might be a problem. Alternatively, you and your sweetheart might take on a serious course of study together.
-
-
-

Gemini Horoscope MAY 21 – JUN 20
The erotic connection between you and your partner will come up this week — but not in the way you might think. Although Venus will move into your 8th House of Shared Intimacy on Monday, she will immediately crash into Saturn, the planet of limitation and fear. Saturn just moved into this part of your chart last week, prompting a significant new lesson about facing any fears or insecurities connected to sex and intimacy. The most productive way to use this conjunction between Venus and Saturn would be to open up to your partner about any issue you might be having in this regard. You might be surprised to learn that you had nothing to fear in telling him or her. In fact, it’s a problem that, with conscious effort, can not only be resolved, but can lead to the most fulfilling intimate relationship you ever imagined.

Cancer Horoscope JUN 21 – JUL 22
Mars, the planet of sex and libido, moved into your romance sector on December 9, and is definitely waking you up in that department. Mars will be at a perfect angle to dreamy Neptune on Thursday, making it certain that romantic sexual fantasies are yours for the taking. If you’re not romantically attached, it’s possible that you’ll meet someone with whom you feel an instant physical and spiritual connection. Explore it! If you’re in a relationship, Venus will help smooth over some of the recent shock that Saturn might have put into you and your partner last week when he moved into your commitment sector. Yes, there is still work to do, but with Venus connected to Saturn on Monday, it’s likely that both of you are willing to share the responsibility.
-
-
-

Leo Horoscope JUL 23 – AUG 22
You might have a romantic dilemma this week that’s connected to your work environment. One of your colleagues might let you know that he or she has a crush on you. Although you’ll be flattered, you’ll be even more conflicted about what to do next. Are you violating office policy in any way? Will there be water cooler gossip? Is this person going to be able to handle it if you go out once or twice and then it fizzles out? So many questions, Leo. Because of this, you’re likely to do absolutely nothing. As a result, you may lose out on an opportunity for real love. Weigh the pros and cons but don’t get lost in them.
-
-
-

Virgo Horoscope AUG 23 – SEP 22
Your love life became a vital karmic focus for you last week when Saturn moved into your romance sector for the first time in nearly 29 years. Lessons in love will leave an imprint on your heart for years to come as a result of what Saturn will teach you from now through December 2020. Love planet Venus moves into the same area of your chart on Monday, immediately connecting to Saturn. If you’re single, it’s very possible that you’ll meet someone with whom you have a past life love connection to. You’ll know it because you will feel immediately at ease with this person, as if you’ve known and loved each other before. You have, and now you’ll have an opportunity to get it right.
-
-
-

Libra Horoscope SEP 23 – OCT 22
If you’ve been dating someone for a while, you and your love will make a vital decision this week: moving in together. You won’t reach it lightly, though, and there will be many strategy sessions where you’ll want to plan everything about this transition. This includes whether or not you’ll get a place of your own, move to your sweetheart’s place, or have him or her live with you. Don’t allow the planning to stress you out too much. Remember to celebrate this very important milestone in your partnership. Already living with your love? Then this week will be more about the loving distribution of chores around your home than hot passionate romance. It is what it is.
-
-
-

Scorpio Horoscope OCT 23 – NOV 21
Oh, Scorpio, we all know how deeply intense you are and how your mind can go the most extreme depths when it comes to love and sex. You’re in overdrive in this department this week, but it won’t get you into any dark trouble. In fact, it appears as if you’re in for a sexual and romantic reward. On Thursday, Mars, currently in your sign, will link up beautifully to enchanting Neptune, which is now in your true love sector. This can help you make a sexual fantasy a reality with your lover if you’re attached. If you’re single, it can bring a new dream lover your way. Enjoy!
-
-
-

Sagittarius Horoscope NOV 22 – DEC 21
There aren’t any grand bells and whistles going off in your love life this week, but if you’re in a relationship, you might feel extra support from your partner as you develop your talents and make a serious attempt to improve your cash flow. Another possibility, however, is that you are wondering if someone you’re dating is really into you, or if they’re using you for money or other resources that you can provide him or her. You’ll become keenly aware that this is a possibility based on the actions of your sweetheart this week. If any red flag does surface, you won’t be able to ignore it.
-
-
-

Capricorn Horoscope DEC 22 – JAN 19
Although Saturn recently moved into your sign prompting you to get serious about life in all possible ways, this week it’s going to focus decidedly on your love life. That’s because Venus will also move into your sign on Monday, the same day it aligns perfectly to Saturn. If you’re single, this might bring in a significant new soul mate relationship, and you’ll be doing a delicate dance with this person for quite some time. If you’re in a relationship, this connection might leave you feeling ready for the most serious commitment possible together: marriage.
-
-
-

Aquarius Horoscope JAN 20 – FEB 18
If your sweetheart is going through any health crisis, you’ll be there to fully support him or her. This might involve a short hospital stay or procedure, but it will also result in healing. So don’t waver in your optimism — even if you begin to feel a little insecure. If you’re single, it’s possible that you’ll be speaking to a counselor or trusted friend about what has been holding you back from fully loving someone. Much to your surprise, a new soulmate is likely waiting for you in the wings. Open your eyes so you can see the potential.
-
-

Pisces Horoscope FEB 19 – MAR 20
You might feel extremely frustrated and torn this week about whether or not to pursue a romantic relationship with someone in your social circle. It’s complicated, and you’ll weigh the pros and cons incessantly only to wind up doing nothing at all. Another possibility is that you are currently in a “friends with benefits” situation and will begin to realize that it’s not fulfilling your heart one bit. In fact, having a casual lover situation is leaving you feeling more lonely and isolated than ever. You crave something more, something with depth. Have the courage to look for it.

Daring Dating Horoscopes for the Week of December 25th
David Wells, Astrologer
From the Astrology Room
ARIES (March 21st-April 20th)
Time to get serious about a lot of things and nobody is talking turkey, well maybe a bit. Venus suggests you have a few love matters that need outing, showing up for or finally admitting to. Who is it you’re passionate about, what’s not working in a new romance? Get serious or get stuffed?
TAURUS (April 21st-May 21st)
Ambitious vibes could be tempting you to punch a little above your weight, to go for that ten when you’re a six at most? Hang on? Who’s telling you that? Who’s the ruler of ratings and compatibility? Nothing, nobody, is out of your reach, in fact if someone feels as if they are; that’s who Venus wants for you.
GEMINI (May 22nd-June 21st)
It’s never an easy time if you’re on your own, but you’re not on your own Gemini? You have friends, family and maybe a cat, so what’s the issue? Ah, the old someone special myth. Don’t tell your family and friends they’re not special, definitely keep it secret from the cat. A slow few weeks; so what.
CANCER (June 22nd-July 23rd)
Hubbalicious, loveadelic, cuddletopia, go on, make up a few more stupid words if you like, but you won’t be making up the feels that have you wishing there was some way of letting folks know how someone lights up your heart. Scrumpshalistic vibes a-plenty.
LEO (July 24th-August 23rd)
Mercury continues to offer you the gift of the gab, the wonderful ability to turn buying a coffee into the biggest flirt of your life. Handy. Uranus goes forward from the 2nd of January, a combination that says at last your flirting begins to pay off. Get that coffee to go.
VIRGO (August 24th-September 23rd)
Single Virgo’s are experiencing a bit of a renaissance, suddenly you’re in vogue, suddenly everyone wants to know what goes on behind your kagool. They will have to form a queue, an orderly one at that, you won’t be forced into making a choice without first checking everyone’s credentials. At least twice. Busy.
LIBRA (September 24th-October 23rd)
Things may have been changeable, not going the way you wanted them to, but you’re ok with that, at least it’s not been dull! So now you get a little more stability, not much to be honest, but you do at least get to see who is interested and who was only here for the cheer.
SCORPIO (October 24th-November 22nd)
Don’t make yourself to available for those who would like to get you under the mistletoe, in fact stay in at least one night and let them spend the night trying to figure out just where you are who you’re with. Especially someone you really, really like. Worst advice ever. Follow your heart, not your mate’s advice.
SAGITTARIUS (November 23rd-December 21st)
Mercury in your sign is chatty and usually that’s a good thing, encouraging you to flirt, to say hello to folks who are just your type. But, he’s gone into overdrive, he’s gone a bit off grid and you’re talking to folks who are as far from your type as you can get. Good.
CAPRICORN (December 22nd-January 20th)
Venus is in your sign, what more do you need to know? Sure, there are other things going on that are demanding your time, gift wrapping and traditions to uphold, but what about giving Venus a present by being present with someone who clearly wants to get to know you better? Focus Capricorn.
AQUARIUS (January 21st-February 19th)
Until you let go of old energy nothing changes, nothing new can get through the old. You’re asked to make like Elsa and let it go, not altogether difficult for you Aquarius given your coolness. Or is that a myth? Are you anything but cool over and ex? Find a way to release the old and welcome the new.
PISCES (February 20th-March 20th)
Jupiter and Mars are beaming in extra energy, they’re combining their forces and putting some optimistic, fun loving vibes your way. Venus and her mates are all pushing for a new group, a new tribe, new faces to tempt you. All you have to do is show up.

Your General Horoscopes for the Week of December 25th
Claire Petulengro, Astrologer
From The Astrology Room
ARIES (March 21st-April 20th)
You enter this Christmas week on a high, as you discover how much a certain sign really thinks of you. You’ll have no reason not to enjoy this festive month better than ever before. Buy an extra gift. You’re going to need it when you see who’s turning up. Talks you have socially about your career show you a new opening you had not previously noticed.
TAURUS (April 21st-May 21st)
Confrontations you have been dreading can and will actually turn out to be a good thing. You realise that you were in control all along, even though you thought you weren’t. Those involved were just waiting for the chance to show you this fact. Christmas Eve promises to put you in the path of someone you’ve really missed.
GEMINI (May 22nd-June 21st)
If close ones are asking you for promises and commitments you don’t really want, then talk to them Gemini. You have spent far too long in recent weeks and months worrying about things, but not actually doing anything about them. Freedom is yours if you ask for it. You’ve just forgotten how to take control.,
CANCER (June 22nd-July 23rd)
Stop worrying about what has happened in the past and instead take control over what is going on in the here and now. Try to sit down and do your sums before Christmas day, as offers will be coming your way you’re going to want to take, but you are going to need to know your financial status to accept them.
LEO (July 24th-August 23rd)
You are so much stronger than you think Leo. This festive week will prove this fact as you begin to take the lead in areas of your life you usually give others control in. Your ruling planet the Sun, helps you to get back on track over Christmas with those you have grown distant from. Phone calls bring you an apology boxing day.
VIRGO (August 24th-September 23rd)
You don’t mean to offend those you love, but if someone buys you a gift you don’t really want, then your disapproval is likely to be written all over your face. Try to deal with what is really on your mind before Monday, so you can make this Christmas one worth really celebrating.
LIBRA (September 24th-October 23rd)
There is a really naughty feel to your chart, which could see you doing the opposite of what people ask just to make a statement. Know how far is too far to go my friend, or you will only end up undoing all of the repair work you did in November. I know you miss someone who is not around and this seems to be the source of your behaviour.
SCORPIO (October 24th-November 22nd)
Problems which you think have got the better of you this Christmas are actually nothing more than a storm in a teacup. You finally start to focus on having fun from Sunday. You realise that others can’t control your decisions and actions this week, but you can and you will. Last minute changes to Christmas day bring relief and pleasure.
SAGITTARIUS (November 23rd-December 21st)
The hard times you went through in recent months have only served to make you stronger Sagittarius. You use this Christmas to show thanks and to feel grateful for all that is now going right with your life. Don’t be afraid to say no to those who invite you out if you don’t want to spend time with them. This is your week to relax and not just for others to enjoy.
CAPRICORN (December 22nd-January 20th)
You gave so much loyalty to those who gave you nothing but disrespect in return. It has taken you a long time to make sense of what happened over the last three months, but I know and you will soon, that you have come out of everything a better person. You’re emotionally richer and decisions you make Christmas and Boxing Day prove this.
AQUARIUS (January 21st-February 19th)
You want to back out of something you committed to, but you are not quite sure how to do so, are you Aquarius. Luckily for you, those involved have already picked up on your feelings and will be making such decisions easy for you. The need to tell others’ secrets on Boxing day must be resisted.
PISCES (February 20th-March 20th)
Advice you both give and take in the week ahead can help you to shape your life so it is more suited to your needs. It may be Christmas week, but you still seem to have your professional head on and you will be taking steps to shape your career ideas ready for the New Year. A delay on a legal dealing is actually a blessing.

From The Astrology Room
ARIES (March 21st-April 20th)
Happy Christmas my friend! I know you enjoy this time of year, but I also know it sends thoughts of your past flooding back to you. Remember please that you are here to make fresh memories. Unbreakable ties will be made if you do.
TAURUS (April 21st-May 21st)
Well, you’ve finally made it to Christmas day! For a while, you weren’t sure if plans could come to fruition, or if you could trust in the promises, but you could and you did.
GEMINI (May 22nd-June 21st)
There is a lot for you to learn this Christmas about how others think and if they can commit to what you want and need in the year ahead. What you need to know from the stars is fate will ensure decisions are for the best.
CANCER (June 22nd-July 23rd)
I think you have done so well this year. You’ve spent so much time listening to others needs and trying to accommodate their plans and ideas. Today you get thanks for this emotionally and verbally.
LEO (July 24th-August 23rd)
Someone is on your mind more than they should be this Christmas. This tells me that you have unfinished business with them and it should tell you that you do care, even though you say and think you don’t.
VIRGO (August 24th-September 23rd)
All of the hard work you have done in trying to make this Christmas day a good one, can and will pay off if only you will finally relax. Knowing who you need to give space to is important. Listen to your instincts.
LIBRA (September 24th-October 23rd)
Are you as good at lying as you think this Christmas? I don’t think so! Why not come clean and admit what you really desire. Let’s face it, it’s the only way you’ll stand a chance of getting what and who you want.
SCORPIO (October 24th-November 22nd)
A sense of humour will serve you well this Christmas Day as some of the signs decide to do what they want when they want, no matter what arrangements they have committed to. Continue with your own plans. Better company awaits.
SAGITTARIUS (November 23rd-December 21st)
Trust yourself this Christmas day. You really do know more than you think Sagittarius. Spending time with those who have been through major changes helps you see what dramatic changes we can make once our heart commits.
CAPRICORN (December 22nd-January 20th)
Be patient. Those you will be seeing may be slightly slower to come round to your plans than you had hoped this Christmas day. Timings may be off, but good times will be had if you can all allow each other to be who you are. Ring for a glimpse at your new year.
AQUARIUS (January 21st-February 19th)
You’ve worked hard and although you may not have had the thanks you hoped for, your efforts will have been noted. Taking time out today to remember someone from your past will help you realise what their advice to you would be now.
PISCES (February 20th-March 20th)
Today you think of those who are no longer with you, but you also focus on those who have just entered your life. I hope you realise that others would approve if you are happy. Are you Pisces? Honest answers come from the stars today.

If You Were Born Today, December 25
You are a highly intuitive yet grounded and earthy person. You hear the unspoken and see the unseen with your very strong powers of perception, yet you tend to prefer to remain quiet much of the time. You do have a knowing look that can intimidate some and appeal to most. You are fair-minded and essentially a peacemaker, although you have tremendous backbone that you can call upon when needed. Famous people born today: Humphrey Bogart, Sissy Spacek, Annie Lennox, Anwar Sadat, Jimmy Buffett, Barbara Mandrell, Clara Barton.
Your Birthday Year Forecast:
The Sun in a waxing sextile to the Moon in your Solar Return chart has a fortunate influence on your year ahead. You can be especially productive this year, as in many ways you are starting fresh, but you have a rather clear vision of what you want to accomplish. Your inner needs tend to be mirrored by external events, and vice versa, which helps to boost your confidence and happiness levels. You more readily accept that challenges are part of the natural cycle in life, which in turn helps you to meet them with confidence and to worry less. You are likely to be on top of your game this year for the most part, and positive connections with others can be made fairly easily. A comfortable level of personal popularity helps keep conflict to a minimum. With the ability to handle your emotions successfully, there will be less stress on both your mind and body.
Saturn transits your Sun this year, and this is stabilizing. You are practical in your choices (for the most part), keeping your feet on the ground and honoring tradition as well as tried-and-true methods. You have the power of practicality, realism, and caution on your side. Work you have done in the past begins to pay off this year–not necessarily in dramatic ways, but in small, measurable ways. You may be recognized or rewarded in some way for the efforts you put forth. Because you project a more responsible and credible “you,” people in authority are more inclined to appreciate you and recognize your work.
This is a year in which you put your life in order in some significant manner. Improved concentration, a more realistic outlook, and a practical awareness of the limits of time all help you to make steady progress, particularly in your career. Your concern for your future this year is stronger than usual, and you may find that projects you start, or investments you make, will benefit you for years to come. One of the keys to success this year is adopting a realistic, practical, disciplined, and orderly approach to your life.
The need to “get serious” about areas of your life where you’ve been slacking is likely now as Saturn passes over your Sun this year. New responsibilities are likely to present themselves this year, or you are likely to take them more seriously. Gone are the “rose-colored glasses.” You are required to put in the effort to clean up areas of your life that need some order. With your ability to accurately assess your life, you can make real headway. The kind of progress you make now may not seem significant for the time being, but you will look back on this period of your life as one in which you truly made REAL progress towards your goals.
Relationships may be stabilized and steady this year, or there can be a new sense of realism in existing partnerships. A sense of duty may lead you to sacrifice a personal pleasure for a cause or for a loved one; thus there could be times when you have to abstain from personal gratification for the time being. Financial discipline, realism, and maturity are possible during this period of your life. You are more conservative when it comes to spending, whether this is because circumstances are such that you need to penny pinch, or you are simply more realistic about your finances.
However, you’re also in a great position to creatively combine traditional and progressive approaches to relationships this year. For example, relationships that are on-off may stabilize or alternative setups can thrive. This is also the case in other key areas of your life, including career and finances.
Renewed ties to old friends are possible, or you could enjoy a new sense of responsibility in existing friendships.
Err on the side of caution if offers arrive that seem too good to be true. Some confusion or possibly deception could arise in communications this year, and you may be skipping important details without even realizing it.
You are imaginative, creative, and communicate warmly and considerately. This is a good time for both teaching and learning, and for expressing feelings. Researching cooking, health, and nutrition can be fruitful now. It’s also a strong time for marketing.
While there is certainly a practical focus in the year ahead, this is a strong year for spirituality and commitment to spiritual or metaphysical goals as well. Higher learning, mind expansion, or travel can also be in focus and very rewarding.
You’re in a good position for social meetings and events. You have a taste for the offbeat this year, and there may be sudden or unexpected romance in your life.
Making connections with others from a different background is likely to figure in the year ahead, or widening your mind through unusual or different experiences can be part of the picture. Generosity and compassion increase and your faith is boosted. You more easily make personal sacrifices for what you believe to be the better good.
This is a powerful year for getting your life in order in a significant way. It’s also strong for new ideas and projects. You’re in good shape for staying on track and meeting your responsibilities, but also for tuning into new and progressive ideas and balancing your time between work and play. This is also a great period for a more mature approach to finances or relationships.
2017 is a Number Two year for you. Ruled by the Moon. This is a year of potential companionship. It is a quiet, gentle, and mostly harmonious year that is generally not as active than other years. Instead, you are more responsive to the needs of others. If you are patient and open yourself up in a gentle manner, you will attract what–and who–you want into your life now. This is an excellent year in which to build and develop for the future. Advice – be patient, be receptive, enjoy the peace, collect, develop, build, and attract.
2018 will be a Number Three year for you. Ruled by Jupiter. This is a year of sociability. It is a friendly time when you find it natural and easy to enjoy life and other people. The focus is on personal freedom, reaching out to others, making new friends, and exploration. You are more enthusiastic and ready for adventure than you are in other years. It’s likely to be a rather lighthearted year when opportunities for “play” time are greater than usual. It’s also a favorable year for expressing your creativity. Advice – reach out and connect but avoid scattering your energies.

Foods for the Winter Season
Nourish your spirit with foods for winter and the Sun in Capricorn
The Sun moved into Capricorn on December 21, which also marks the Winter Solstice — the shortest day/longest night of the year, and a night when we’re most certainly hungrier than usual. Good thing we’ve got some Astrology-inspired foods just perfect for this time of year!
Celebrations to honor Gods and Goddesses have been held since ancient times, and still continue today in one form or another in Japan, China, India, Pakistan, and countless other places. It is also during this time that High Holy days for many of the world’s religions are celebrated, including Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Zoroastrian and Islam.
Another festival, Saturnalia, in honor of Saturn, originated in Greece and became highly popular in the Roman Empire. The weeklong celebration culminated on December 23, after the Sun had moved into Capricorn. This is significant and a fortuitous time as Saturn is the ruler of Capricorn. Saturn may just be responsible for the original Winter Solstice festivities.
Some believe the Winter Solstice to be the “dark night of the soul.” On this longest night, the ancients thought the veil between the worlds was the thinnest. If the night was spent in meditation and reflection, one could gain insight to their past, present and future. This tradition and philosophy is still practiced by many cultures throughout the world.
Capricorn rules the bones and the entire skeletal system. The foods chosen for the Sun’s reign in Capricorn help strengthen and protect bones from calcium loss in all zodiac signs, but especially Goats. Any sign will benefit from eating the chosen foods, and can delight in including these scrumptious foods in any celebration during this emphasis on Capricorn and Saturn.
Beef (prime rib)
Beef is high in vitamin B12, calcium, phosphorous and zinc, all of which help maintain bone density, making it beneficial for Capricorn natives and all other zodiac signs, as everyone is in need of healthy bones. Beyond the health benefits, a beautifully cooked prime rib is the perfect entree to serve to friends and family when celebrating the season.
Satsuma Tangerines
These sweet, juicy citrus gems are loaded with vitamins A, C and potassium, all good for the bones and immune system. If you find a bright orange Satsuma in your Christmas stocking, don’t think Santa is being chintzy. Not only will it be delicious and excellent for you, it is a gift of good fortune in many cultures.
Black-eyed peas
These peas, or beans as some call them, are very high in zinc, iron, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium, with trace amounts of B vitamins and vitamin C, making them just what the doctor ordered to keep your bones healthy and strong. They have long been considered lucky to eat on New Year’s Eve, a theory dating back to ancient Babylonia. All signs wanting a prosperous year ahead should fix a big pot of these healthy legumes.
Collard Greens
These dark greens are rich in vitamins A, C, K, manganese, calcium and trace amounts of B vitamins. They look like folded greenbacks, which is the reason they are considered lucky! It is said if you want to ensure a wealthy and successful year, eat lots of these tasty greens. Have a big dish with your black-eyed peas for double the luck and double the boost to your bones!

The Wicca Book of Days for Monday, December 25th
The Invincible Sun
The Romans celebrated the dies natalis invicti Solis (“the Birthday of the Invincible Sun”) on December 25, when they rejoiced in the winter solstice, or the rebirth of the Sun. Sol (who later came to share his birthday with Jesus Christ) was the Roman god who embodied the solar disk, (his equivalent was the Greek Helios). He was said to traverse the sky by day in his golden chariot. Mithras, originally a Middle Eastern solar deity, was also worshiped on this day; as well as being equated with the sun, this “Bull-killer” was regarded as having the power to confer immortality on his devotees.

On Monday, December 25th, We Celebrate the Roman God Sol
Sol Indiges is the one of the most ancient gods of Roman mythology. Early history has him recorded as one of the many deities introduced by Emperor Titus of the Flavian Dynasty. The sun god disappeared from the literature for some time and was later reintroduced by Emperor Aurelian as Sol Invictus, which means “unconquered sun”. The name differentiation may have come later to help people discern between the myths of the two.
Origin
Sol Indiges
Sol Indiges was one of the earliest gods introduced by Titus in approximately 79AD, during a time when the Romans and Sabines were allies. In the Aeneid, Virgil’s epic Latin poem, the Trojan hero Aeneas, was a Roman who fled to Italy following the defeat of Troy. Once there, he married the daughter of Latinus, a Latin king. The mother of Latinus was Circe, the daughter of the sun. This marriage into the family of the sun shows the importance of the deity for the Roman state, and is also a sign of the unity of the Latins and Romans.
Several festivals were held and dedicated to the sun god. On the August 9 at the cult center temple on Quirinal was the feria (festival) in honor of the sun, which is needed for the nurture of a good harvest.
On August 28 the dedication of Templum Sol et Luna (Sun and Moon) was held at the Circus Maximus, which was the main temple the sun god shared with the moon goddess. Circus is derived from the name Circe, daughter of the sun.
Sol Invictus
The Emperor Aurelian reintroduced the sun god and cult in 274 AD. The birthday of the unconquered sun was celebrated at the Roman festival Dies Natalis Solis Invicti on December 25. There is an ongoing debate regarding this date. Did it predate Christmas, or was it was later chosen to be the same day? We do know that Sol Invictus was worshipped in Rome until Christianity took hold as the dominant religion during the reign of Constantine in the 300s A.D.
Historical Influence
Some believe December 25 was chosen as the date of Christmas Day after the pagan holiday celebration of Sol Invictus, while other theories say the date for Christmas was chosen first. Romans believed that Sol had died for three days and was reborn on December 25. The three days following December 21 are the darkest of the year: the three days when neither the sun nor Jesus are seen.
There are theories that connect Christianity to astrology and the sun. Jesus had 12 disciples, and this corresponds to the 12 constellations of the zodiac. The halo in many paintings of Christ bears a resemblance to the cross of the zodiac.
The sun god also had a role in the secret religion of Mithraism, which was practiced during the 1st to 4th centuries of the Roman Empire. It is not clear whether Sol can definitively be identified as Mithra – who was originally a Persian god – but it is known that the cult center for Mithraism was in Rome.
Sol Invictus is found on many ancient Roman coins, as several of the Emperors of Rome during the later era were preferential to Sol, including Constantine the Great, who was committed to the sun god in addition to Christianity.

Monday–The Day of the Moon
The moon, like the sun, was an object of wonder in the days of old, and was worshiped almost everywhere in some form or other, but it does not play quite so important a part in story as the sun. Since the moon is paler than the sun and its light soft and gentle, it was often regarded as being a chariot driven by a woman, but the course of the moon-goddess across the sky was similar to that of the sun-god.
Diana, the moon-goddess of the Greeks and Romans, known also as Cynthia, Phoebe, and Arterms, was the twin-sister of Apollo, and drove a golden chariot drawn by milk-white horses. Diana and Apollo were children of Jupiter, and were born in the Island of Delos, where a temple to Apollo was afterwards built. Another of the Seven Wonders of the World was the temple to Diana at Ephesus, on the west coast of Asia Minor. The worship of Diana at Ephesus is mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles: “And when the town clerk had quieted the multitude, he saith, ‘Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there who knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is temple-keeper of the great Diana and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?'” The temple was destroyed in the year A.D. 263, but remains of it may still be seen.
Diana was also the Goddess of Hunting; she was a skilled archer, and spent the day in huuting, as we have seen in the story of Orion.
The most famous story of Diana is that of her love for Endymion, a young shepherd–a story which has been told by the poets many times. One evening as the moon-goddess was driving silently across the sky, she saw sleeping on a hillside a handsome youth, his resting flock scattered over the gentle slope. Attracted by his beauty, Diana stepped from her chariot and gazed long at his face; then softly stooping, she kissed him lightly on the lips. Endymion, half wakened by her touch, caught a fleeting vision of the fair goddess as she hastened to her chariot. Filled with wonder at the sight, he rose quickly and rubbed his eyes, but all he saw was the bright moon floating across the dark sky, and he thought that he had been dreaming. The next night the goddess came to him again, and again he saw her with his half closed eyes. Each night when the bright rays of the moon fell on his upturned face he dreamed this wonderful dream, but he was always sleeping when the goddess came, and nevr saw her in her full and dazzling beauty. The days now seemed long and dreary to Endymion, and he waited anxiously for the night that he might see again the glorious vision.
Diana was filled with dread at the thought that the beautiful youth would lose his beauty as the years went by, and at last she cast a spell over him while he slept, so that he should never wake again, and carried him away to a cave in a mountain-side known only to herself. There the loving Diana paused each night in her journey across the sky, and gazed on the face of the fair Endymion.
Diana, when hunting in the forest, was attended by a band of wood-nymphs who were her faithful followers. One of these nymphs, Arethusa, was one day cooling herself after the chase on the banks of the River Alpheus, when suddenly the God of the River appeared. The startled nymph ran quickly into the woods, but the god Alpheus pursued her, telling her that he loved her and that she need fear no harm. Arethusa was too frightened to listen to the god, and ran on, till at last, worn out, she prayed to Diana for help. The moon-goddess was ever ready to help her faithful nymphs, and in answer to the prayer transformed the girl into a fountain, which she hid in a thick mist. Alpheus, suddenly losing sight of the nymph, wandered sorrowfully about, calling out her name in his distress. Arethusa now thought that she was safe, but the wind-god, Zephyrus, blew aside the mist, and Alpheus saw a fountain where there had not been one before, and guessed what had happened. He quickly changed himself into a river and rushed towards the fountain, but Arethusa sprang from the rocks and hastened away over the stones and grass. Diana now saw her fresh danger, and made an opening in the ground, through which Arethusa slipped, to find herself in the kingdom of Pluto, the God of the Underworld. Here she wandered until she found another opening, by which she escaped once again into the sunshine on the plain of Sicily. Alpheus, however, at last made his way across the sea to Sicily, where he found Arethusa and won her love. The Greeks believed that flowers cast into the River Alpheus in Greece were carried by the river as gifts to his lover, and appeared later in the fountain of Arethusa in Sicily!
Among the Egyptians the moon was regarded as a god, who was named Thoth (The Measurer). He was also the God of Wisdom, Invention, Writing, and Magic. He was one of the earliest of the Egyptian gods, having come into being at the same time as Ra, the sun-god, and it was he who was said to have created the world. The Romans compared him with Mercury because, like Mercury, he invented writing. As the God of the Moon, he was represented as wearing a crescent moon on his head, and holding in his hand a stylus, a pointed instrument used by the Egyptians for writing on their wax tablets.
The Babylonian moon-god was Sin, the Lord of Wisdom. He was the father of the sun-god, and was one of the greatest of the gods, owing to the fact that the Babylonians regulated their calendar by the moon.
The Angles and Saxons believed that the moon was driven across the sky by Mani, the son of a giant, in a golden chariot drawn by a horse named the All Swift. As in the case of the sun, our ancestors had no distinct goddess of the moon.
Hymn to Diana
Queen and huntress, chaste and fair,
Now the sun is laid to sleep,
Seated in thy silver chair,
State in wonted manner keep:
Hesperus entreats thy light,
Goddess excellently bright.
Earth, let not thy envious shade
Dare itself to interpose;
Cynthia’s shining orb was made
Heaven to clear when day did close;
Bless us then with wished sight,
Goddess excellently bright.
Lay thy bow of pearl apart,
And thy crystal shining quiver;
Give unto the flying hart
Space to breathe, how short soever,
Thou that mak’st a day of night,
Goddess excellently bright.

The Magickal Day of Monday
Monday is the day of the moon itself, and it’s a day that’s connected to lunar colors like silver, white, or even a pale blue. Metals and gemstones like silver, pearl, opal and moonstone all come into play today.
There are plenty of deities associated with the moon – Thoth and Diana for instance – and herbal correspondences include many members of the mint family. Utilize wintergreen or peppermint, as well as catnip, comfrey, sage and chamomile in your workings.
When it comes to Monday magic, because of that lunar connection, it’s a good time to focus on workings related to childbearing and family life, purity and virginity, healing, wisdom, and intuition. Do a little bit of self exploration and work on developing your intuition – learn to trust your gut. Celebrate birth and life, and make some magic to fix what is broken.

The Witches Monday
In the word Monday, we can see part of the word Moon. In the romance languages such as Italian or Spanish, this day of the week is called Lunes and clearly relates to the word lunar. On Mondays, a variety of magick may be worked. Because Monday centers on the energies of the Moon, things like dreams, feminine energy, health, success in spiritual pursuits, domestic matters, and things of family origin are especially important this day.
Mondays are best for love magick and anything concerning home or family, thus old saying, Mondays child is fair of face, which seems clearly to relate to the themes of love and health.
Angels of Monday are Gabriel, Arcan, Missabu, and Abuzaha. Arcan is known as the king of the angels of air and the “ruler” of Monday. Abuzaha (Abuzohar) serves Monday, and is very responsive to invocations and ritual magick. Missabu is a ministering angel of Arcan.
Check whether the moon is waning or waxing to determine what your spell will be. During waning moons, do spells to rid yourself of obstacles or for wisdom and protection. During waxing moons do magic for increase of any kind or to draw something into your life.
On Mondays, the best hour to work is moonrise. Get this information from your local newspaper, astrological calendar, or almanac.

Monday Is A Day of Witchery, Magick and Enchantment
Think for a moment on all of the witchery, magick and enchantments that you have discovered. Don’t be afraid to adjust spells to suit your own specific needs. Any gentle, illusory, and dreamy charms and spells can be enhanced when you work on the day of the week that is dedicated to the moon. Mondays are a fantastic day to boost your psychic abilities and to tune in to your intuition and empathy. It also gives you the opportunity to work with a different lunar phase each and every Monday, which means in one month you could work four different types of moon magicks on Mondays. How’s that for adding to your repertoire? You are going to have mad skills in no time at all.
So light up those lunar scented candles and add a little mystique to your outfit by wearing an enchanting lunar color. Wear your sparkling silver jewelry and maybe add a pair of dangling silver earrings or a pendant shaped like a crescent moon. Create lunar potions and philters; make a dream catcher and give it as a gift to someone you love. Burn some sandalwood or jasmine-scented incense today to inspire the glamour and magick of the moon. Slice up a favorite variety of fruit that is in season for a snack or share it with your love and enjoy his or her lunar and romantic qualities. Brew up a cup of chamomile tea, enchant it with a little moon magick, and relax and get a good night’s sleep.
Most importantly, get outside tonight and watch the moon for a while. What phase is she in? What color was the moon as she rose? Why not start a journal and write down at what location the moon rises and sets for a few seasons? This is a great way to teach you to tune in and to become more aware of the moon and the influence that she pulls into our lives. Try calling on Selene for her magickal assistance, and call Thoth for wisdom and strength. Get to know the Norse Mani and the Latvian Meness. These gods of the moon have plenty to teach, and if you allow their influence to cycle through your life, you’ll receive many blessings. Be imaginative, and create your own personal lunar magick and witchery. Go on….the moonlight becomes you.

The Witches Almanac for Monday, December 25th
Christmas Day
Waxing Moon
Moon Phase: First Quarter
Moon Sign: Pisces
Moon enters Aries 7:27 pm
Incense: Hyssop
Color: Ivory

The Waxing Moon
The Waxing Crescent Moon occurs 3 ½ to 7 days after the New Moon. She rises in the mid-morning and sets in the evening. The Moon’s light is quickening. As the Moon has dropped back until she is about ?th of the way behind the Sun, we see her lumination as a crescent shape.
You will see the first quarter Moon from 7 to 10 ½ days after the New Moon. She will rise around noon and set around midnight.
As the Moon is at a right angle to the Sun the difference between high and low tide is minimized. Because light and dark are in balance, the Moon will appear to be a Half Moon, but the area of light will continue to grow each day.
The Waxing Gibbous Moon occurs between 10 ½ and 14 days after the New Moon. She rises sometime in the mid-afternoon and sets in the early dark hours of the morning.
As the Moon has fallen back around ? of the way behind the Sun, one side of the Moon is seen fully and the light on the other side bulges out, but does not yet fill all of the Moon’s face.
Now your projects can get into their stride. Be aware, however, that overstrains are more likely at this time and that the body takes things in and absorbs them more readily with a Waxing Moon.
It is also a good time to build yourself up if you have been unwell or otherwise off-colour. Absorbing, boosting your energy and taking up supplies are crucial now. Go on an active holiday, get in touch with friends, plan a party, arrange meetings and increase communication.
As Full Moon approaches, notice what isn’t working and shed it in order to focus your energies more effectively. Remind yourself to slow down a little and conserve your strength. This is a time of regeneration and to gather information and resources.

Covens and Witches
In 1662, Isobel Gowdie of Auldearne made four separate confessions of being a Witch, and in the process, gave the word “Coven” to the world.
Although there is no other historical evidence for this word, it has proven to be one of the most lasting facets of Witchcraft – ask anyone today what Witches do, and the answer will almost certainly include the fact that they meet in groups, called “Covens”.
So given that a number of modern Witches do, in fact, either run, or belong to, a Coven – just what is its purpose in 20th (and 21st) century Western Civilisation? Why has this word of such dubious historical veracity survived over three hundred years? Is there a place in our modern world for a social group which, as far as we know, occurred only in 17th century Scotland?
The very fact of its survival for over three hundred years argues that there is a place for such a group. In my own case, I have been a member of, and run, Covens of Witches for a number of years, and it is a social model which fits extremely well within modern society.
The structure of a coven varies, but generally has one or two leaders, and a number of members of varying levels of experience. In a sense, the modern Coven has replaced the tribal family, and its members often fulfill familial roles, which are no longer available to them in the family in which they were born.
Some researchers have commented that many modern Witches come from a background which was disrupted; i.e., did not provide a safe family environment during their formative years. As I know a great many Witches for whom this was not the case, I think this is only a partial reason, and only for some people.
Humanity itself seems to be inherently tribal; any common bond between people will generally result in the creation cults or sub-cultures, where those of a like-mind will bond together. They will evolve their own social order (generally hierarchical), have their own common language, and often are identifiable by their demeanour and appearance.
Witches gather together in Covens for very much the same sorts of reasons; we are apart from general society by virtue of our beliefs and practices. Meeting with others who think and feel similarly to ourselves gives us the opportunity to share ideas and skills, as well as being able to practise our Craft.
A modern Coven provides a family-style environment, where the “Elders” can, by virtue of their experience, give encouragement, support, and advice to those seek to learn about Witchcraft. As with all families, Covens have very unique and individual ways of approaching this. Just as no two families are the same, neither are any two Covens.
Some Covens are run by people with an academic bent, and as would be the case in any family, this characterises the way in which their “children” are brought up. Other groups are oriented towards a more simple approach, and the oral traditions play an important role in the way in which the Coven is structured. Some combine the these two approaches, and the variations upon the basic themes are endless.
For any “family” to exist harmoniously, everyone within the group must feel a part of the group, and wish to learn and grow within that group environment. With a path such as Witchcraft, with its emphasis upon personal growth and development, it is likely that individuals who may at one time have been happy within their family group, will change, and wish to move away. This is a perfectly natural process, and the wise coven leaders will send those people off with their love and blessing.Trying to keep them would be like trying to keep your sons and daughters tied to your apron strings forever!
Ultimately, and despite the popularity of the word “coven”, I do believe that most Witches are solitary in nature, and will generally spend at least part of their lives without being a member of, or running, a coven. I think the inward exploration during these periods is vital to self-development, just as we believe it is important to encourage social-awareness in children. However, I also believe that at some stage it is important to learn the practices of Witchcraft from another person; to be an apprentice, if you will; because the act of passing knowledge from one person to another cannot be replicated by books, correspondence courses, or be self-taught. This may seem an almost impossible task to some people, but as all the magical traditions teach: when the student is ready, the teacher will appear! What’s more, it’s true!

DAILY MAGICKAL APPLICATIONS FOR MONDAY
Monday is named after the moon. The Latin term for Monday is Dies Lunae (“moon’s day”); in the Old English language, this day was Monandaeg; in Greek, it was Hermera Selenes. All of these different names and languages translate to the same thing: the “day of the moon.”
Working with the different phases of the moon is an important skill that takes a bit of time for Witches to learn. So why not cut to the chase and experiment with the day of the week that is dedicated to the moon in all of its magickal energies and aspects?
Magickally, Monday encourages the lunar energies of inspiration, illusion, prophetic dreams, emotions, psychic abilities, travel, women’s mysteries, and fertility.

Monday & The Perfect Corresponding Spell – Moonstone Travel Spell
This spell will call on Meness, the patron moon god of travelers.
Find a spot that faces east or that is illuminated by moonlight. Or try setting this up under the moon, in the garden, or on the porch or your outside deck. Get some atmosphere sphere going! Try using a scented candle, such as jasmine or gardenia, to coordinate the fragrance with the moon’s energies.
Gather the following items:
• A photo of your destination, your travel itinerary, or your airline tickets
• 4 small tumbled moonstones
• A scented white votive candle and holder
• A lighter or matches
Set up this spell on a safe, flat surface. Light the candle and place it in the holder. Place your paperwork/tickets or itinerary to one side of the candle. Arrange the four stones in a circle around the holder. Place your hands on the travel paperwork, and ground and center. Then repeat the following spell three times:
Meness, patron of travelers, watch over me
Whether I travel in the air, on the land or sea
Like a talisman in my pocket a stone will I tuck
Moonstones do encourage a safe journey and bring good luck.
Take one of the stones and keep it in your pocket while you travel. You may close the spell by saying:
For the good of all, with harm to none By the moon and stars, this spell is done.
Gather up your papers and tuck them away for your trip. Allow the candle to burn out on its own. If you performed this outside, then move your candle and the remaining stones indoors to let the candle safely finish burning. Never leave your candles unattended.

Celebrating Legends, Folklore & Spirituality 365 Days a Year for December 24 & 24
Christmas Eve, Christmas, Yule
It is generally accepted that the birth of Christ on December 24th is the invention of some overzealous authors who were trying to create some sort of symmetry between Paganism and Christianity. According to the late fourth-century Scriptor Syrus, it was the custom of the Pagans to celebrate the birthday of the sun on December 25, at which time they kindled lights in token of festivity. The Christians also participated in these solemnities and revelries. Accordingly, when the administrants of the church observed that the Christians had a preference for the festival, they took counsel and resolved that the true Nativity should be solemnized on that day.
The Pagan feast that was replaced by Christmas was of far older origins and may have been built upon the cult of Mithras, who, for the Persians, was the creator of the universe and manifestation of the Creative Logos, or Word. His birth on December 25 was witnessed by shepherds. After many deeds, he held a last supper with his disciples and then returned to heaven. Some believe that, had Christianity not taken hold when it did, Mithraism very well might have become the world religion.
For more that three centuries Christ Mass was a moveable feast, celebrated on the Epiphany (January 6), the day that, according to biblical account, Jesus manifested himself to the Magi. The Western date of December 25 was fixed to coincide with the Roman midwinter festival of the Kalends, which was preceded by seven days of tribute to their God of agriculture, Saturn.
Many of the Yuletide customs we observe today were common to various thanksgiving days and new year’s rites. For example, the hanging of greenery comes from an old ivy-worshiping worshiping cult dating back to the Dionysian revels in ancient Greece; mistletoe was valued-almost worshiped-by the Druids; ids; and gift exchange most likely generated with the Saturnalia. The Christmas tree was introduced by the Prince Albert of Saxony in 1844 and was an adaption of the Paradeisbaum(decorated tree of life) from the medieval drama of the Tannenbaum.

The Astrology for Monday, December 25th
The Moon is in Pisces until 7:26 PM, after which the Moon is in Aries.
The Moon is void from 12:25 AM to 7:26 PM.
The Moon is waxing and in its Waxing Crescent phase.
The New Moon occurred on the 18th in the sign of Sagittarius, and the First Quarter Moon will occur tomorrow.
Mercury is in its post-retrograde shadow until January 10, 2018.
Venus enters Capricorn today (Venus transits Capricorn December 25, 2017, to January 17, 2018).

Moon in Pisces
The Moon is traveling through Pisces today. You may feel disconnected. Serve others. Listen to music. Paint a picture. Daydream.
We are not inclined to want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It’s a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.
The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.

Overview of the Day
Venus enters the sign of Capricorn shortly into the day and will transit the sign until January 17th. Getting serious about our finances and boosting our relations with business partners and/or co-workers will be easier than usual under this influence. Our talents for creating artistic structure and form are enhanced, and our ability to form connections with people who support our ambitions increases. We value enduring relationships and connections, reliability, and faithfulness. We take expressing our feelings seriously, and we take our time to warm up to others. We generally keep our “cool” in relationships during this cycle.
Venus meets Saturn shortly after it enters Capricorn since Saturn just recently began its longer-term transit of the sign. Venus also forms a semi-square to Jupiter today. We may be viewing or taking our attachments and affections a little more seriously. When it comes to finances and relationships, we may need to limit a pleasure or indulgence, or sacrifice a material benefit for a spiritual one (or vice versa). Extravagances have a way of catching up with us and buckling down is necessary, but we generally feel good about making a mature choice now. We may be experiencing a new sense of realism in our relationships. A sense of duty may lead us to sacrifice a personal pleasure for a cause or a loved one, or we may have to abstain from personal gratification for the time being. This can be a time for bonding more strongly with loved ones through the sharing of a responsibility, concern, or dilemma.
The Moon continues its transit of compassionate Pisces until 7:28 PM EST, after which we’re more likely to want to take action, make a change, or start fresh with the Moon in Aries.
The Moon ends its void period when the Moon enters Aries at 7:28 PM EST.

In the Sky This Month
The year ends as it began, with the brilliant stars of winter climbing into the evening sky. By the end of December, dazzling Orion will be in good view by the time the sky gets dark. Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky, will rise below Orion a bit later. The twins of Gemini stand to the left of the hunter, with Taurus, the celestial bull, above, continuing the never-ending cycle of stars and planets across the night sky.
December 25: (Summer) Christmas Skies
The Summer Triangle is in the western sky as night falls. Its three points are Vega, the brightest member of the group, which forms the right point of the triangle; Altair, the left point; and Deneb, the top of the triangle.
December 26: Aries
Aries, the ram, is high in the east as night falls and stands due south a few hours later. Despite its fame as a member of the zodiac, Aries includes only three bright stars. A fainter star is added to create a figure that resembles a lopsided boomerang.
December 27: More Aries
Hamal, the brightest star in Aries, the ram, arcs high across the south this evening, almost directly above the Moon. The star is expanding to become a giant. It is orbited by a giant planet that is being evaporated by the star’s intense energy.
December 28: Cancer
The constellation Cancer rises in the east by around 9 p.m. and climbs high across the sky later on. Its stars aren’t all that prominent, although binoculars reveal a sparkly group of stars known as the Beehive Cluster.
December 29: Balancing Planets
The planet Jupiter looks like a brilliant star in the southeast at dawn, with fainter Mars to its upper right. Just below Mars is Zubenelgenubi, in Libra. Its name means “southern claw,” indicating that it once was considered a claw of the celestial scorpion.
December 30: Moon and Aldebaran
The Moon has a close companion tonight: Aldebaran, the eye of Taurus. Skywatchers across much of the U.S. won’t see the star for part of the evening, though, because it will be hidden behind the Moon. The best view of the vanishing act comes from the northeast.
December 31: Holiday Lights
Some of the brightest stars in the night sky encircle the Moon tonight. The entire array is in great view by about three hours after sunset, and remains in view all night. The stars are so bright that they are visible even from light-polluted cities.

The Witches Digest for Monday, December 25th
A Little Merriment To Get Your Monday Off To A Jolly, Holly Start!
About Today
It is 3:00 p.m., and you want to know what happened to us. Short story, no rather long. I did go spend yesterday morning and some of the afternoon with Lady A. I asked Lady A if she knew when she would be out of the hospital and still she has not been given a definite date. They replace a pin in her left hand while they glued her back together. Now they have her doing therapy on her leg and also her hand. She is livid to say the least. I was there when the doctor (orthopedic) came in. She asked him when she could go home. He told her they would talk about it in a few days. Wasn’t the answer she was wanting to hear. She was upset after the doctor left and I decided to stay a little longer. I believe I was getting ready to leave the hospital around 2 and Lynette showed up. I asked her what she was doing there. She replied she had somethings she wanted to discuss with Lady A. I told her, “over my dead body.” Lynette complicated my plans for leaving. I took my coat off and went back in. Lynette didn’t have much to say while I was in the room. I do believe I know why she was there. She didn’t stay that long. She said she had talked to Lord M and asked if it would be alright for her to spend the night with Lady A. I told her that Kit didn’t need anyone spending the night with her. Where in the hell was she when she did? This conversation took place outside in the hall not in front of Kit. She said she didn’t care what I had to say Lord M told her it was fine if she spent the night. She stated she was going home to get her clothes and she would be back. She left. I went back in and talked to Kit. I told her Lynette was going to spend the night. Kit had the same reply I did, “what the hell for?” I told her I didn’t have any idea what for but I did. I kissed Kit on the forehead and left.
Probably around 8 last night, I left the house for the hospital. Lynette isn’t going to get anything over on me nor is she going to upset Kit. I be damned if that happens. I walked up to Kit’s room before they locked down the hospital. Lynette had done made herself nice and cozy in a chair in the room. Kit has a private room and it is rather large. I asked one of the nurses I have become friendly with, if she could bring in a bed. The nurse asked if Kit had took a turn for the worse. I told her no, nothing like that. She was just down in the dumps and we wanted to cheer her up. The nice nurse brought in a bed. Lynette didn’t know I was there yet. She told the nurse that was so thoughtful. The nurse told her it wasn’t for her. Lynette was shocked and I stepped through the door and told her it was for me. Lynette went to the bathroom. I believe it was to change her pants because she looked like she took a shit in them when she saw me. The nurse fixed the bed for me and told me, if we were both going to stay, we would have to be extra quiet. Kit needed her rest. I told the nurse that was why I was there to make sure Kit wasn’t bothered. Lynette came out of the bathroom and said, “oh, you are spending the night too?” I wanted to say, “you dumb bitch, what do you think?” But I didn’t, I didn’t want to upset Kit. They had already given Kit her pain medicine and a sleep pill. Kit was in and out of it. I remember she woke up once and looked confused and dopey and asked, “you both here?” “What am I dying?” I told Kit to go back to sleep, we were having a sleepover without her. She went back to sleep. Lynette was awake, waiting like a vulture for Kit to wake up. I told Lynette let’s go down and get a coffee. We went and there was no one in the coffee area that time of night. I told Lynette I knew exactly what she was up too and she could forget it. She wasn’t getting rid of me, I was staying while Kit was in the hospital and after she got out. I was taking the position that was offered to me. Lynette dropped her coffee. Lynette’s main purpose on spending the night was to fill Kit’s head with a bunch of shit about me and how the WOTC was being run right now. Kit don’t need that. She needs to relax, not worry about a thing except getting better. She wanted to huff out of there and leave the hospital. I told her no she wasn’t or else Kit would think something was up. She was going to spend the night just like I was, the only difference she was keeping her mouth shut.
We both fell asleep around 5:30 this morning. Kit slept all night and we listened to her snore. Yes, Lady A snores. She will argue up and down she doesn’t but she does. She woke up and asked us, “what time did both of you get here?” Must be good drugs, she didn’t even know we were there all night. At 6:00, breakfast came in. That seems early for breakfast for me but it is a hospital. Kit was eating breakfast when the doctor came in. We stayed to hear what he had to say. He said her leg was mending very well, along with her ribs. Her hand would have to be in a cast for a few weeks but work those fingers when she could. We asked when she might be released, he said if she keeps making the improvements she has been making, probably sometime next week. We stayed for a bit after the doctor left. We are hoping that maybe Kit will be out of the hospital by the time next year gets here. We told her there was nothing she could do about it. Stop being a difficult patient and accept she was staying till the doctor said she could go home. I told her she might as well stay as long as necessary instead of going home and doing something stupid and have to come back. Then I told her I had been offered Mystie’s old job and I told her I was accepting it. She smiled from ear to ear and started crying. I told her to stop crying everything was going to be fine. She told me after all these years, she had wanted me up here with her. It took something like this for me to move up here. I told her there never was a place for me till now. Kit told me there had always been a place for me, I just had to ask. We hugged for a while, then we said our good-byes for the day.
I got home and told the other women to go home, I was going to bed. Sleeping on a hospital bed all night long isn’t my cup of brew. I went to sleep and didn’t wake up till about an hour ago. We all keep working our magick and help Lady A heal faster and she will be out next week. Never knew how much I missed that woman. Lord M is going to go and spend the night tonight. I told him about Lynette and if she showed up call me. I know Kit will be glad to get out of the hospital. She will probably lock her room door and never let any of us in because she is tired of looking at us.
That is the up-date on Lady A and we will be back tomorrow to start a new week with you.
Eleanor
Just Letting You Know
We are taking off today to go to the hospital and visit with Lady A. Afterwards, we have somethings to get done in the house that we rented for her. It seems Lynette and Lord Myst have my day planned out for me. Lynette hasn’t introduced herself to you yet. She just popped on here and made the statement she has put up a “Go Fund Me” account for Lady A. Lynette is a Solitary Practitioner who also happens to be Celtic. Lady A mentored her for several years and it seems now she thinks she owns the place. As most of you know, Lady A, Mystie and Lord Myst all came out of the mountains of Eastern Kentucky. It was against the wishes of the grove there that Lady A come down here (Western Kentucky). She told them she was coming with or without their consent. The head of the grove told her if she came, she would bring two protectors with her. Not that Lady A needs anyone’s protection. She is a very powerful witch. The protectors would watch her back and detect any negative or evil will, entities, spirits or anything else around. That way Lady A wouldn’t have to stop her work and deal with the matter. Lord Myst and Mystie would take care of that sort of thing. The grove considered Lady A’s work very important and still do. They believe she is blessed by the Goddess to carry our message forward.
Since Mystie’s passing there is now an opening for a protector for Lady A. I was offered the position first. If I refuse the position, Lynette is next in line for the position. I love Lady A as a sister and would defend her with my life if need be. I am considering if I want to leave my home in Louisiana and move to Kentucky. It would be a big change for me but I believe it would be worth it. I honestly don’t believe Lynette is up to the challenge, even though she disagrees. She has been trying to get me to go back to home, she could handle things from now on out. Her wanting me to leave, makes me leery. I told her I would not consider leaving till Kit (Lady A) was out of the hospital. Now, after being offered this new position, I don’t know if I will be leaving or not. The house we rented for Kit, I can move in there after her cabin is rebuilt. More than likely, you will be stuck with me with for a long time to come. I want to know Kit is safe and if I had been here, I would have seen the fire coming. I could have avoided this whole horrible mess by looking into the future and seeing it coming.
I am going to the hospital now. I haven’t spent hardly anytime with her. Lord Myst has been hogging her all to himself. I plan on staying the biggest part of the morning and some of the afternoon. The other ladies are planning on coming this afternoon. I will tell you it is hard to run everything the WOTC is involved in. I don’t know how Lady A does it all. Hopefully she will back with us soon. Please remember her in your daily prayers.
We will return tomorrow to resume the Daily Digest and also update you on Lady A’s condition.

This Weekend’s Love Horoscope: Let’s Get Serious
Your love horoscope for the weekend of December 22-24
Matters of the heart become more practical this weekend as Saturn’s move into Capricorn begins to hit your love life. Serious Saturn is finally back in its home sign — the last time Saturn was here was almost 27 years ago! — and will have you craving a more committed, lasting love. You may find yourself analyzing the foundations of your current or potential relationships now, to see if they’ll hold up in the long-run. Do you two have the same goals and values? Do your schedules work well together? Do you want the same things in love? If you don’t know these answers right away, it’s OK! You’ll have the next 2 1/2 years to throw these thoughts around while Saturn is in rational Capricorn.
But Saturn’s not the only planet adding a serious vibe to the weekend. The Sun has just entered Capricorn, too, and love-planet Venus will move into Capricorn on Monday. Careful Capricorn is known for being ambitious in the most practical way, and when it comes to matters of the heart, the steady Mountain Goat wants an enduring, consistent relationship with a solid foundation. These energies will leak into your love life this weekend, further encouraging you to assess the sturdiness of your current situation, and look for a practical partner with long-term goals.
Don’t worry though, it’s not all heavy news! Mercury Retrograde ends on Friday and our communicative powers will start to return. Say goodbye to the continuous misunderstandings that you and your partner or crush have been enduring. Let the right words flow as conversations between you and your lover significantly improve. You’ll be able to get a clear perspective on your love life this weekend. Ask yourself some tough love questions — you might be surprised by your heart’s answers.

Your Daily Horoscopes for Friday, December 23rd
Claire Petulengro, Astrologer
ARIES (March 21st-April 20th)
Are you excited about Christmas Aries? You should be. What you didn’t know last year but do now, is that life is for living and that no one can stop an Aries from doing what they want to do.
TAURUS (April 21st-May 21st)
Don’t let them tame you Taurus, but work on being the best version of you there can be this Christmas month. Time spent telling tales on others is wasted. Try to work on bringing who you love together for next week.
GEMINI (May 22nd-June 21st)
If you obey all the rules you miss all the fun, but that doesn’t mean that you have to do what you don’t want to. Relationships come under the spotlight and you find it possible to make peace with someone from your past.
CANCER (June 22nd-July 23rd)
Unexpected gifts or acts of kindness come your way and you begin to see who is on your side and who has been working against you. Make time for an older face you have been ignoring. They have news you’ll want to hear!
LEO (July 24th-August 23rd)
Slow down in relationships my friend, or you are going to end up missing all the fun. If you can pay more attention to the simple things in life, then you will be in with a chance of finding what true happiness means.
VIRGO (August 24th-September 23rd)
Try not to hesitate when you are asked questions this week, instead try to speak from the heart. It’s how you will find out who you really are and what you really want.
LIBRA (September 24th-October 23rd)
The stars bring out a more psychic side to your nature and you find it possible to make amends in situations which you were just about ready to give up on. Time spent on facts and figures can save you money and reputation.
SCORPIO (October 24th-November 22nd)
Of course it hurts if you lay your heart on the line and it gets stamped on. What you have to realise from here on in though, is that if you place your emotions before those who are not worthy, of course they’ll take advantage.
SAGITTARIUS (November 23rd-December 21st)
Travel is well starred and any trips you make to see those you love between now and the New Year will be greatly appreciated and enjoyed. Being on time tonight can make all the difference to a yes or no answer.
CAPRICORN (December 22nd-January 20th)
Go slow with new relationships in your life which are taking shape. It would be in your interests to let others speak while you listen. It can show you a way of living which may be a better path for you.
AQUARIUS (January 21st-February 19th)
There is a naughty feel to your chart which could well see you saying and doing things that could upset the coming Christmas week. Know how far is too far to go. You’ve worked too hard to fall back now.
PISCES (February 20th-March 20th)
There is an immature feel to your chart which could see you saying and doing things just to get a reaction from those who have upset you. Be stronger than that and remember you’re a Pisces. Talking about what you really want today moves mountains.

If You Were Born Today, December 22
You are an emotional person who is very connected to your past. You are exceptionally giving and supportive, sometimes to the point of martyrdom! You have to try not to feel resentful for all that you do for others by keeping this trait in balance. You would make an excellent counselor. Your love life is likely very changeful. You are extremely hard-working and few can do the job as well as you. Sometimes you are impatient with others who don’t seem to have the same work ethic as you, but you must understand that few do! You can be a perfectionist. You are a wonderful combination of conservative and creative or inspired. Famous people born today: Diane Sawyer, Vanessa Paradis, Robin Gibb, Maurice Gibb, Ralph Fiennes.
Your Birthday Year Forecast:
With the Sun and Moon in a waxing semi-square at the time of your birthday this year, the period ahead is one of new initiatives and action. You possess quite a bit of energy, but you must be aware that emotions color much of what you do this year. It can be hard to be objective as a result.
This can be a year in which you experience important turning points, or you could begin new projects or goals that have a long-term impact on your life.
Transiting Uranus forms a trine to your Sun this year, and exciting (not jarring) changes and new interests characterize this period. It’s easier than usual to express your unique individuality, and if this involves changing careers or jobs, a new love affair, or an entirely new hobby, it’s something that takes you forward into unexplored territory. You are more willing to adapt to new circumstances, ideas, and unfamiliar situations. It’s a good time to join organizations and groups and to attend meetings or social events. You are quick to find creative solutions to problems now. Flexibility is the key to success under this influence.
This is a strong year for spirituality and commitment to spiritual or metaphysical goals. Higher learning, mind expansion, or travel can also be in focus and very rewarding.
In your relationships, you may be feeling pleasantly attached, finding it natural and easy to nurture and support people in your life. However, you’re also quite willing to try new ways of relating and you’re more inclined to venture out socially or try new things. You’re in a good position for social meetings and events. You have a taste for the offbeat this year, and this energy can bring sudden or unexpected romance into your life. This may be more of a year of experimenting than committing.
Making connections with others from a different background is likely to figure in the year ahead, or widening your mind through unusual or different experiences can be part of the picture. Generosity and compassion increases and your faith is boosted. You more easily make personal sacrifices for what you believe to be the better good.
Your personality is sparkling this year, which is sure to attract new circumstances and people into your life. This is an excellent year for new ideas and projects. You’re in good shape for staying on track and meeting your responsibilities, but also for tuning into new and progressive ideas. This is also a great period for a more mature approach to finances or relationships.
2017 is a Number Eight year for you. Ruled by Saturn. This is a year of power and accomplishment. Actively seeking to expand, taking educated risks, and moving forward are highlighted. This is a year of opportunity, particularly in the material and business world, and opportunities need to be seized. It’s generally not a year to find a new love partner, simply because the focus is on the material world and your place in the world. This is a problem-solving year in which you can expect real, tangible results. Advice – take action, plan ahead, seize opportunities.
2018 will be a Number Nine year for you. Ruled by Mars. This is a year of completion and transition. It is a time when we need to let go of things that no longer serve their purpose, and hold on to things that have a future. It is a time of cleaning out dead wood, not necessarily for new beginnings. It can be a time when a burden has been taken off your shoulders, and it can be a year of giving of yourself. Advice – let go of things that are holding you back, give of yourself and express your sympathetic, compassionate side.

On Friday, December 22nd, We Celebrate the God Herne
Herne, God of the Wild Hunt
BEHIND THE MYTH
Unlike the majority of deities in the Pagan world, Herne has his origins in a local folktale, and there is virtually no information available to us via primary sources. Although he is seen as an aspect of Cernunnos, the Horned God, the Berkshire region of England is the home to story behind the legend. According to folklore, Herne was a huntsman employed by King Richard II. In one version of the story, other men became jealous of his status and accused him of poaching on the King’s land.
Falsely charged with treason, Herne became an outcast among his former friends. Finally, in despair, he hung himself from an oak tree which later became known as Herne’s Oak.
In another variation of the legend, Herne was fatally wounded while saving King Richard from a charging stag. He was miraculously cured by a magician who tied the antlers of the dead stag to Herne’s head. As payment for bringing him back to life, the magician claimed Herne’s skill in forestry. Doomed to live without his beloved hunt, Herne fled to the forest, and hanged himself, again from the oak tree. However, every night he rides once more leading a spectral hunt, chasing the game of Windsor Forest.
SHAKESPEARE GIVES A NOD
In The Merry Wives of Windsor, the Bard himself pays tribute to the ghost of Herne, wandering Windsor Forest:
There is an old tale goes that Herne the Hunter,
Some time a keeper here in Windsor Forest,
Doth all the winter-time, at still midnight,
Walk round about an oak, with great ragg’d horns;
And there he blasts the tree, and takes the cattle,
And makes milch-kine yield blood, and shakes a chain
In a most hideous and dreadful manner.
You have heard of such a spirit, and well you know
The superstitious idle-headed eld
Receiv’d, and did deliver to our age,
This tale of Herne the Hunter for a truth.
HERNE AS AN ASPECT OF CERNUNNOS
In Margaret Murray’s 1931 book, God of the Witches, she posits that Herne is a manifestation of Cernunnos, the Celtic horned god. Because he is found only in Berkshire, and not in the rest of the Windsor Forest area, Herne is considered a “localized” god — and could indeed be the Berkshire interpretation of Cernunnos.
The Windsor Forest area has a heavy Saxon influence. One of the gods honored by the original settlers of the region was Odin, who also hung at one point from a tree. Odin was also known for riding through the sky on a Wild Hunt of his own.
LORD OF THE FOREST
Around Berkshire, Herne is depicted wearing the antlers of a great stag. He is the god of the wild hunt, of the game in the forest. Herne’s antlers connect him to the deer, which was given a position of great honor — after all, killing a single stag could mean the difference between survival and starvation, so this was a powerful thing indeed.
Herne was considered a divine hunter, and was seen on his wild hunts carrying a great horn and a wooden bow, riding a mighty black horse and accompanied by a pack of baying hounds. Mortals who get in the way of the Wild Hunt are swept up in it, and often taken away by Herne, destined to ride with him for eternity. He’s seen as a harbinger of bad omen, especially to the royal family. According to local legend, Herne only appears in Windsor Forest when needed, such as in times of national crisis.
HERNE TODAY
In the modern era, Herne is often honored side by side with Cernunnos and other horned gods.
Despite his somewhat questionable origins as a ghost story blended with Saxon influence, there are still many Pagans who celebrate him today. Jason Mankey of Patheos writes, “Herne was first used in Modern Pagan Ritual back in 1957, and was referred to as a sun-god listed alongside Lugh, (King) Arthur, and the Arch-Angel Michael (a strange hodgepodge of deities and entities to say the least). He shows up again in Gerald Gardner’s The Meaning of Witchcraft published in 1959 where he is called a “British example par excellence of a surviving tradition of the Old God of the Witches.”
If you’d like to honor Herne in your rituals, you can call upon him as a god of the hunt and of the forest; given his background, you might even want to work with him in cases where you need to right a wrong.

The Magickal Day of Friday
Friday falls at the end of the work week for many of us, and that means we get a chance to relax for a little bit! Mark your Fridays with colors like pink and aqua, and metals such as copper. This is a day ruled by the planet Venus, so it should be no surprise that Venus and Aphrodite – goddesses of love and beauty – are associated with Fridays. This is a day named for the Norse goddess Freyja, so be sure to take a moment to honor her as well.
Gemstones associated with Friday include coral, emerald and rose quartz, and plants like strawberries, apple blossoms and feverfew are also related. This is a good day to do spellwork associated with family life and fertility, sexuality, harmony, friendship, growth. Take advantage of Friday’s correspondences and plant a seed, make something grow, and enjoy your blessings
*Note: There are a lot of disputes as to the origins of the word Friday, because there is still a great deal of discussion as to whether it was named for Freyja or Frigga, and whether they were the same deity or two separate ones. Some scholars believe that while they may have eventually become two distinctly different goddesses, they could have had their origins in a single, common Proto-Germanic deity.

Friday–The Day of Freya
In the stories of the gods and goddesses of the Angles and Saxons we find two goddesses, Frigga, the wife of Odin and queen of the gods, and Freya, the Goddess of Love. Some people think that Friday was named after Frigga, and others that it was Freya’s day. Since very similar stories are told of each of them, it is quite probable that they were really the same person. The Roman name for the day was Dies Veneris, the day of Venus, who, it will be remembered, was the Goddess of Love, and so corresponded to Freya. The modern French name is taken from the Latin and is vendredi.
Frigga was the Goddess of the Clouds, and, when she was not with her husband Odin, spent her time in spinning clouds. Her spinning-wheel was studded with jewels, and at night could be seen in the sky as the constellation to which the Romans gave the name of Orion’s Belt, as we have seen in the story of Orion.
Frigga was also the Goddess of Spring, and as such was known as Eastre, whom we have already mentioned as giving us the word Easter.
Freya, the Goddess of Love and Beauty, like the Venus of the Romans, received a great welcome when she came to the home of the gods, and was given a special kingdom called Folk Meadow, where was a vast hall known as the Hall of Many Seats. Here she received half of those slain in battle, the other half being entertained by Odin, as we have seen.
Freya is depicted as having blue eyes and golden hair, and often as wearing a robe of feathers, which enabled her to fly through the air like a bird.
The goddess is said to have married Odur, who was probably Odin under another name. Odur once had occasion to leave Freya and travel over the world, and the goddess was broken-hearted at his departure. Her tears fell among the rocks and were changed to gold, while some which fell into the sea were transformed into amber. All nature mourned with her: the trees shed their leaves, the grass withered, and the flowers drooped their heads. At last Freya in her distress set out to find her husband, and, passing through many lands, where her golden tears were afterwards found, came to the sunny south, and there overtook the wandering Odur. As the lovers returned, the fields and the flowers rejoiced with them. The frost and snow fled before them, and the earth became green again as they passed.
“And Freya next came nigh, with golden tears;
The loveliest Goddess she in Heaven, by all
Most honour’d after Frea, Odin’s wife.
Her long ago the wandering Odur took
To mate, but left her to roam distant lands;
Since then she seeks him, and weeps tears of gold.”
MATTHEW ARNOLD–Balder Dead.
This story, of course, reminds us of Ceres and Persephone, and is only another fanciful explanation of summer and winter.
Freya was the proud possessor of a dazzling necklace of gold, which had been made by the dwarfs, and which she wore night and day. On one occasion only did she lend the necklace, when Thor, disguised as Freya, went to the land of the giants to recover his hammer, which had been stolen by the Giant Thrym. Loki, by borrowing Freya’s robe of feathers and flying over the country of the giants, had discovered the thief, but had also found that Thrym would only return the hammer on condition that Freya would become his wife. When Freya heard of the giant’s presumption, she became greatly enraged, and vowed that she would never leave her beloved Odur and go to live in that dreary and desolate land of cold. Heimdall, the guardian of the bridge Bifrost, then suggested that Thor should go to Thrym disguised as Freya, in company with Loki disguised as Freya’s attendant. The gods at last allowed themselves to be persuaded, and Thor, having borrowed Freya’s clothes and necklace and wearing a thick veil, set out with Loki, who was dressed as a handmaiden. On reaching the giant’s palace, they were welcomed by Thrym, who was delighted at the success of his plan, and who led them to the banqueting hall, where a great feast was held. At the end of the feast, Thrym ordered the famous hammer to be brought in, and he himself laid it in his bride’s lap as a marriage gift. Thor’s hand immediately closed over the hammer, and in a few moments Thrym and all the guests invited to the wedding feast lay dead.
Freya was greatly relieved to have her necklace returned in safety, but the evil Loki, attracted by its wonderful beauty, determined to steal it. One night the god, by changing himself into a fly, succeeded in entering Freya’s palace. He then resumed his own shape, and, creeping stealthily to Freya’s bed, gently removed the necklace from the goddess’s neck. The watchful Heimdall, however, had heard Loki’s footsteps, and, looking in the direction of the Folk Meadow, became a witness of the theft. He at once set off in pursuit of Loki, and, overtaking him, drew his sword and was about to kill the thief, when Loki changed himself into a flame. Heimdall immediately changed himself into a cloud, and sent down a shower of rain to put out the fire. Loki then took the form of a bear, and opened his mouth to catch the water. Heimdall also took the form of a bear and attacked Loki, who, finding that he was being overpowered, changed himself yet again, into a seal. Heimdall followed suit, and fought again with Loki, and at length compelled him to give up the necklace, which was returned to Freya.
On another occasion Freya was sought by one of the giants, and it was only by the cunning of Loki and by an act of bad faith on the part of the gods that she was saved. The gods, ever anxious lest the giants should invade Asgard, decided to build a stronghold which would prove impregnable. They received an offer from a stranger, who was willing to undertake the work in return for the sun, the moon, and the goddess Freya. By Loki’s advice they accepted the offer on condition that he should complete the work in one winter, aided only by his horse. To the surprise of the gods the stranger agreed to these conditions, and with the help of his horse, which could haul the heaviest stone, set to work. The gods, who at first felt sure that their conditions had made the task impossible, were alarmed to find as time went on that the stranger was working so quickly that it seemed certain that he would be able to keep his promise. The gods on their side had no intention whatever of keeping their promise, since they could not possibly part with the sun and the moon and the Goddess of Love, and they angrily pointed out to Loki that since it was he who had got them into this difficulty, he must find some way out of it. Loki replied that the gods need have no fear, for with his usual cunning he had thought of a plan whereby the stranger might be made to forfeit his reward. On the last day, when only one stone remained to be dragged into position, Loki changed himself into a horse, and, trotting out from the forest, neighed loudly to attract the attention of the stranger’s horse. Tired of his continual labour and longing for freedom and rest, the horse broke free from its load and galloped after Loki. The stranger, after pursuing it vainly through the forest, at last made his way to Asgard, and, full of anger at the trick which had been played upon him, took on his real shape, for he was a frost-giant, and was about to attack the gods when Thor hurled his hammer at him and killed him.
Frey, the god mentioned in the story of Loki and Sif’s golden hair, was Freya’s brother. He was the God of the Fields, and sacrifices were made to him for the crops. In the early spring his wooden image was driven in a chariot through the countryside, in order that he might bless the fields and bring a fruitful harvest: Frey, as we have seen, became the possessor of a ship which could travel over land and sea, and though large enough to contain all the gods, yet could be folded up like a cloth, and he also possessed a boar with golden bristles. The god often rode on this boar, which was swifter than a horse, and was no doubt a symbol of the sun, which ripened the crops. We find the same idea of sunshine in Frey’s flashing sword, which fought of its own accord as soon as it was drawn from its sheath.
The month of the Angles and Saxons which begins just before our Christmas was sacred to both Frey and Thor, and it was customary at that time, as we have already mentioned, to bind a huge wooden wheel with straw, and, setting fire to it, to roll it down a hill. The wheel was a symbol of the sun, which at that time began to chase away the winter. At this time, too, was held a great feast to all the gods, and the chief meat eaten was a boar’s head, in honour of Frey. The missionaries who first brought Christianity to the Northmen, finding this feast was of great importance and was celebrated by all the people, did not try to do away with it. Instead, they changed it from a heathen to a Christian festival by putting Christ in the place of the Norse gods, and calling it the Feast or Mass of Christ. A similar change was made, it will be remembered, in the case of the Easter festival, held in honour of Eastre or Frigga, the wife of Odin.

The Witches Guide to Fridays
Love magick is a perennial popular topic. However, there is more to this topic than meets the eye. There are many enchanting layers here for us to explore on this day of the week. What about creating a loving home, or producing a loving and nurturing family? What about keeping your intimate relationships vital and on track? How about promoting happy, healthy, and enduring friendships? See, there is more to be considered than just the “You shall be mine…” type of fictional love spell.
Don’t forget that many of the deities associated with Fridays are also parents. So, yes, while this is the day to work on romance, sex, and love spells, there is additional magick to be considered here, which makes Fridays a more well-rounded and bigger opportunity for witchery than many folks ever truly realize. The truest, strongest magick always comes from the heart.

The Witches Almanac for Friday, December 22nd
Feast of SS. Chaeremon and Ischyrion
Waxing Moon
Moon Phase: First Quarter
Incense: Rose
Color: Pink

Magickal Workings for The Waxing Moon
The waxing moon is the period during which the moon grows from dark to full. It takes approximately fourteen days for this to happen. In many magical traditions, people use this time of the moon to perform “positive” magic — in other words, magic that draws things to you, or increases things. Some examples would include:

Friday Is Ruled By Venus
Friday belongs to Venus, both the planet and its namesake Roman goddess of love. This day is sacred to many other gods and goddesses of love such as Eros, Venus, Aphrodite, and the Norse goddess that gave the day its name, Freya. This day of the week is for magical topics such as love, birth, fertility, and romance. Colors for today include pink and aqua.
Some suggestions for Friday enchantments would include:
Carrying a rose quartz with you today to send out some gentle and loving vibes to those crabby co-workers
Working a loving Tarot spell to charm a friend’s pregnancy with good health and safetyantic snack with your partner. Feed each other ripe, red strawberries. Those strawberries are love-inducing food, and are sacred to many love goddesses, including today’s patroness, Freya.
Working a little flower magic to enchant a single pink rose for friendship and inner beauty, and setting it on your desk. Or try empowering a red rose for passion and placing it in your bedroom

Friday & The Perfect Corresponding Spell
For many, Friday is the last work day of the week. It’s considered the fifth day of the work week and, also, the “cut loose” day. By Friday night, people are out having a party. That makes Friday the perfect day for lust, banish, fast-grant, and find spells. This day is so powerful (energy wise). That’s why whatever you do on this day will, usually, have a strong effect. If you want things out of your life, the darkness and power, associated with this day, bring the energy you need for that. If you need strong, immediate results, this is your day, as well.
Lust Spell – Hair on Stick Lust Spell
Items you will need:
3 strands of hair
1 comb or brush
1 small stick
1 tube of red paint
1 bottle of glue
Find a small stick and paint it red. While the paint is drying, comb through your hair and take three strands from your comb or brush. After the paint on the stick is dry, cover the stick in glue. Then, wrap the three strands of hair around the stick and let the glue dry.
Now, say this chant:
“I’ve wrapped up my passion.
I’ve wrapped up my lust.
I’m ready for it to come out.
I’m ready to trust
My desires and my will,
So the Universe can make it real.”
Put the stick under your bed, and your desires should could true.

Ethics of Love Magic – Is it OK to Perform
Love spells. They’re one of the things that often draws new folks to Wicca and Pagan religions. However, there’s a lot of question within the Pagan community about the ethics of on someone else. After all, if you’re performing magic on someone without their knowledge, aren’t you messing with their free will?
Most Wiccans will tell you that the best way to approach love magic is to avoid focusing on a specific individual as a target. Instead, use your energy and skills to focus on yourself — to draw love your way, or to help you present yourself as a person worthy of love. You could use your magical abilities to feel more confident and attractive, much like a magical makeover. In other words, fix yourself, not someone else.
Bear in mind that many Pagan traditions have no restrictions on the use of magic to change someone else. If you’re part of such a tradition, the use of love magic may well be within the boundaries of . In some traditions of folk magic, love magic is perfectly acceptable. It’s something that’s done as a matter of course, and is no more unethical than wearing a sexy perfume or a cute push-up bra. Magic is viewed as a tool, and can be used in tandem with the mundane to bring you what you want — after all, if you didn’t want to change things, you wouldn’t be doing magic in the first place, right?
Before casting any sort of working that affects another person, though, be sure to think about consequences. How will your actions affect not only you, but other people? Will it ultimately cause harm? Will it cause someone to be hurt, either directly or indirectly? These are all things that should be evaluated before performing any working at all, whether it’s a love spell or some other type of magic. If your tradition or belief system prohibits you from performing magic on someone without their consent or knowledge, then you’d be better of skipping the love magic, and focusing instead on self-improvement and self-empowerment.
Rather than aiming a love spell at someone and expecting them to become your devoted servant and doormat, consider looking at love spells as a method of (a) getting someone to notice you AND (b) getting the person to, once they’ve noticed you, find all the things about you that they like. If you maintain this perspective, you should be able to work love magic and still keep within your ethical boundaries.

Time Has Come
A time has come now for us to remember
to walk the blissful ways of Yule.
Through the snowflakes´ whirling flight
Wandering, wandering,
through the silent winter night.
Under the ice slumber brooklets and lakes,
and the woods are dreaming a deeper dream.
Through the world all wrapped in white
Wandering, wandering,
through the silent winter night.
From the high heavens a luminous silence
is filling all our hearts with joy.
In the starry, gleaming light
Wandering, wandering,
through the silent winter night.
The days grow shorter and darker,
the light of the Gods is growing in our hearts.
Round the Yulefire, side by side,
singing all, singing all,
singing all the long winter´s night.
The year is ending, a new one begins,
and the Aesir always walk with us.
Round the Yuletree shining bright
celebrate, celebrate,
the return of warmth and light.

We Hope Everyone Had A Very Beautiful & Blessed Yule! May The Spirit of Yule Carry With You All Year Long!
For full disclosure, I am using Lady of the Abyss’ account again. I have a problem using my account. It seems to be much more complicated than Lady A’s. Also I am not that computer literate yet. I am learning, slowly but surely. –Eleanor

Yule Legend
The following was written for a bardic circle several years ago and is the telling of the myth as our ancestors might have known it.
Long, long ago when the earth was new
And mankind was younger yet.
There came a time of the dark and cold.
Let never a soul forget.
There came a time when the ice drew nigh,
And the sky with snow turned grey.
And the earth grew hard, and the trees were bare,
And the timber wolf howled in the brae.
Huddled and cold the tribesmen sat
Round fires of peat and of moss.
And dreamed of the warm time, dreamed of the Lord,
And mourned for the Lady’s loss.
For with the harvest had come the Lord
And laid his body down,
To pay with his life for the earth’s repast,
To yield to the Holly his crown.
As the deer and the boar bow down to the bow,
And the stag consents to the kill,
So the Lord came down to the altar knife
Earth’s riches his people to fill.
Then came the Lady across the moor
And down from the lonely hill.
Saying, “What have you done with my wondrous Lord,
And why did you have to kill?”
Then in anger she turned from the children of men
And in anger she went away.
And she wrapped her cloak around her head
And she wrapped the sky with grey.
Cold grew the world with the Lady’s grief
And her cold tears fell as the snow.
And the rivers and lakes were frozen still
And the fires of peat burned low.
“Oh, what have we done,” the people cried,
“To have slain our own dear Lord!
And how will we live, and how will we fare
Without the Lady’s regard.”
The world grew colder each passing day
And the sun fell down from the sky.
And darkness eternal lay over the earth
And the people began to die.
They gathered together there on the plain,
Every woman and man and child,
And prayed to the Lady then to relent
And prayed for the land to heal.
But nothing came to answer their cries,
But dire wolf, lion, and bear.
And the people cried out with a terrible shout
But the Lady refused to hear.
Then from among them a man stood forth,
A harper of no little fame,
And he said, “I shall go to the Summer Land’s shores
And I’ll bring the Lord back again.”
“And how will you do this thing you will do,
And how will you bring it about?”
“I will play on my harp, ’til the gates open wide
And the Lord Death shall let us out.”
“Old fool, old fool”, the wise ones cried,
“Oh never this thing shall be.
For noone goes to the Summer Land’s shores,
And returns to the land of the free.”
“But I shall go”, the old man said,
“And these things I claim shall be.
Or else the world in the dark will die,
And the people no longer be.”
Then he took his harp and he took his staff,
And he bent his head to the west.
And he walked and he ran for six days and three,
And never he stopped to rest.
He ran till he came to the frozen shore
of the mighty western sea.
And the frozen tears coursed down his cheeks
For never a boat had he.
Then the man cried out in a terrble shout,
“Aquila, Lord of the Air,
Hear my plea and answer me
And bear me over there.”
Out of the skies on wings of fire
Came Aquila, the Lord of the Air,
“Saying who shall call on Aquila’s name,
And bid me to carry them there”.
“I”, said the old man, “I called thy name,
For my people the need is great.
And I must hie to the Summer Land’s shores
If I would avert their fate.”
Then Aquila came down to the shores of the sea,
And he came to the old mans hand.
And he said, “I shall bear thee in honor and pride
To the shores of the Summer Land.”
Then off they flew in the night dark sky
Neath a cavern of stars and air.
And at last they came to the Summer Land’s shores
And Aquila alighted there.
“My thanks for your aid”, the old man cried,
“Now fly and avert your fate.”
But proud Aquila dipped down his head
And said, it for him was too late.
For from the Summer Land none return,
Until it is time to be born.
And now in the dark of the Lady’s regard,
There will be no glorious morn.
“Then come,” said the harper, “Come with me!
And we’ll seek for the Lord of the Wild.”
And he struck his harp and he raised his voice,
And the shades of the dead they smiled.
They searched and they searched the Summer Land,
And the harp made a wondrous sound,
Til they came to a grove of oak, ash and thorn
And a mighty stag they found.
“Whence came you then”, cried the mighty stag,
“And why have you called to me.
For I was the Lord of the Greenwood once.
And now you’ve awakened me.”
Then the harper knelt, and he bowed his head,
And he cried, “Oh Lord, return.
For thy people die without thy aid
And the fires refuse to burn.”
“Thy Lady mourns and her frozen tears,
Have turned the world to ice.
We accepted gladly your wondrous gifts,
With no thought to the sacrifice.”
The stag he wept for his people’s woe,
And he bent his lordly head.
Ah, glad would I be to go with you hence,
But this is the land of the dead.
And none can leave here until the time,
When death shall let them go.
And I must stay til the stars shall say
That it is time to go.
Then the harper sang and he played his harp,
With ever a song so sweet.
That even the Lord of Death came round
And sat at the Harper’s feet.
And when he’d done, Death came to him,
“Saying ask of me any boon,
For thou hast brought me joy and peace
In my lands of endless noon.”
Then up spoke the Harper, “Lord grant me one gift
And set the Forest Lord free.
Lest all people shall perish beneath the snow,
This shall I ask of thee.”
Then Death bowed his head, and he said “He may go,
Though it is not time yet to be.
Yet I have promised for thy harp’s sake
And therefore, so mote it be.”
Death then turned to the mighty stag
And he raised his withered hand.
Saying, “Thou art free for the Harper’s sake,
Depart from the Summer Land.”
Then in the place of the wild beast lay
A tiny newborn child.
And the Harper and eagle in homage knelt,
And the little baby smiled.
The Harper lifted him up in his arms,
And strode to Aquila’s side.
And he said, “I beg you, one last time,
For the Lord’s sake let us ride.”
Then Aquila rose from the Summer Land
With Harper and child on his back.
And he turned his head to the eastern lands
And he sailed into infinite black.
Nine days and nine, Aquila flew
Til he came to the cold, dark plain.
And there he carried the man and child
That the sun might come again.
Then down from the darkness they came with the wind
And among the people they stood.
And the people came forth to see this child
As the Harper had said they would.
Then the people called out the Lady’s name,
And the newborn baby cried.
And the Lady looked down on the gathered throng
And she saw the child and sighed.
“Ah”, said the Lady, “Here is my Lord
Surely come back to me.
And where are the brave ones who challenged Death
That this wondrous thing might be?”
Then forth came Aquila and Harper both
And stood at the Lady’s feet.
“Thou art the bravest and staunchest of friends
That ever I chanced to meet.”
“For thou hast challenged the gates of Death
With never a thought of reward.
And thou hast won thy peoples life
For saving my own sweet Lord.”
“For thou, Aquila, a king shall be
And I give thee a crown of light.”
Then she stretched forth her hand upon his head
And turned his feathers white.
“And thou, dear Harper, shall be my own
And sit here at my feet.
And a nightingale sang where the old man stood,
With ever a song so sweet.”
Then spake the Lady, to those who heard,
“By Fire and Fir and Yew;
I vow on my honor that never again,
Will the light depart from you.”
“For though the night grows long and dark,
And the sun be hid from view,
Yet the Lord will come with mid-winter’s day
And the light bring back to you.”
Then she bade them build on the frozen plain
A mighty and magical ring
Of standing stone and sturdy oak
And she bade the people sing.
And she said, “By this mark you shall be sure
That to my promise I hold,
For when the sun on this stone shall sit
Then you’ll know an end of the cold.”
“Down and down the dark shall come,
but on that special day,
The sun shall climb once more in the sky.
And the heavens be blue not grey.”
Then the people knelt and bowed their heads,
And when they looked again,
The Lady was gone, and the Harper too,
Gone from the world of men.
And in the place where the Lady stood,
The rose of winter grew.
And overhead where the sun shown bright,
A mighty eagle flew.
And thus my children, thus is the tale
Of how the world turned cold.
And how the summer was carried back
By the Harper and Eagle bold.
