Weekly Astrology: July 11 – 17, 2016

A way with words

It’s time to use restraint with your communication, or you could regret it later! See how to make it through the week with all the Astrology below…

Monday, July 11: Mercury square Uranus

The week begins on a chaotic note as Mercury squares off with Uranus on Monday. You may want to put some imaginary (or literal) tape over your mouth to prevent you from blurting out something you’ll later wish you hadn’t.

Tuesday, July 12: Venus enters Leo

On Tuesday, Venus enters Leo where she’ll remain until August 5. Love becomes larger than life with incredible romantic opportunities!

Wednesday, July 13:  Mercury in Leo

Mercury enters Leo on Wednesday, and until July 30 you’ll speak with such flair that no one will be able to resist your words!

Saturday, July 16: Sun square Uranus; Mercury conjunct Venus; Sun trine Mars

Then, on Saturday the Sun is square Uranus and trine Mars while Mercury and Venus are conjunct. You’ll need to assert your independence, but this time you won’t be as reckless, thanks to Mars supporting — rather than aggravating — the situation. And you’ll sound incredibly charming in the process!

Calendar of the Moon for Tuesday, July 12

Calendar of the Moon
12 Tinne/Hekatombaion

Kronia

Color: Golden
Element: Earth
Altar: The Kronia celebrates the Golden Age when Kronos and Rhea ruled, when there was no order, so nothing is done ordinarily this day. The altar is laid with whatever cloths those present may bring, and set with whatever things they may think appropriate to the celebration of a mythical utopian anarchy.
Offerings: Do nothing in its order today. Invite in those not of the House and let them order the activities. The newest novice should replace the House Elder for the afternoon. Order is restored by Hesperis.
Daily Meal: Let those not of the house bring potluck. No one cooks today, and all fend for themselves.

Kronia Invocation
(With random shouting throughout)

Long ago, before there was Law,
Kronos inherited the throne
(Hail Kronos!)
From his mother, Gaea, who recognizes only
(Hail Gaea!)
The laws of nature, and his father Uranus,
(Hail Uranus!)
Who was capricious as the wind and the sky.
For hundreds of years he ruled their way,
Until he realized the value of Rules
(Hail Eunomia!)
And became their strongest servant.
When his son Zeus overthrew him,
(Hail Zeus!)
And with his thrice-blessed wife Hera
(Hail Hera!)
Ascended the throne, he kept the Rules.
Yet today we remember that time,
Like unto the childhood of the world,
Where there were no rules,
(Hail Chaos!)
Nor were any needed. Go now,
And spend one day without them,
That you may appreciate them the more in the end.
(All exit in a rush, snatching things from the altar, and have a drumming and dancing circle.)

Calendar of the Sun

Solstitium

Colors: Green and gold
Element: Earth
Altar: Upon cloth of green and gold set flowers and herbs in pots, a bowl of rainwater, a large pitcher of manure tea, and several empty baskets.
Offerings: Water and fertilizer, to be added to the garden.
Daily Meal: Vegetarian.

Solstitium Invocation

Earth, you begin to give forth your bounty!
Like the maiden blossoming into the mother,
Like the youth growing into the father,
You yield your children up to us
For our sustenance and health,
As we are also your children.
We will not waste your gifts!
We will nurture what you bring forth
With the labor of our hands,
That those gifts shall be sustained
Year after year, and that you shall
Never be exhausted.
We will not be ungrateful, O Earth whose life is ours,
But we will give back as much as we take,
For this is the way of balance.

Chant:
Life harnessed
Call the sun to us
Sacred harvest
You are one with us

(Two who have been chosen to do the work of the ritual take up the rainwater and the manure tea, and carry them out to the garden, where they are ceremonially poured around the roots of the herbs and vegetables. All others follow with the empty baskets, and harvest some thing from the garden, whether a token or a main part of the next meal. After this, each should do some part of the work of further watering, or fertilizing, or mulching, to give back to the earth as much as is taken away.)

Obon, Festival of the Dead

Celebrated in Japan, Obon or Bon may be compared with All Hallows’ or All Souls’ Day. It is commonly believed that the spirits of the dead return to earth during Obon, and preparations rations are made to receive and honor them. Family shrines are cleaned, and special meals known as the “Feast of Fortune” are prepared for the spirits. Because lanterns are lighted in the cemeteries and at doorways to welcome ghostly visits, the holiday day is often called the Festival of Lanterns. Obon festivals are often sponsored by Buddhist religious congregations and are celebrated in Japan and in Japanese communities throughout the world.

WOTC Extra – Do unto others as you would have them do unto you (borrowed from us or not? You decide.)

VINTAGE WOMAN IN FANTASY BACKGROUND

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you (borrowed from us or not? You decide.)

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you

This sentence belongs to the Judeo-Christian biblical tradition. It is a simple rule that appears in various forms in most cultures. This sentence is similar to the “do not hurt” sentence, and it is a good guideline to live by. As we said above, it appears in different versions in various cultures: “Don’t do anything to your friend that you yourself hate having done to you,” or “If you have been burnt by fire, don’t throw burning embers on your friend,” and so on.

This law causes the person to think about his actions and take responsibility for them. Witches and wizards do not enjoy the convenience of “confession” or forgiveness for crimes, as in other religions. They are supposed to take responsibility for their actions and face the consequences of their deeds and mistakes. If they make a mistake, they examine what they did and why they did it, in order to be more aware and avoid mistakes in the future. If possible, they repair their deeds in the present.

Let’s Talk Witch – The “do not hurt” sentence “

VINTAGE WOMAN IN FANTASY BACKGROUND

Let’s Talk Witch – The “do not hurt” sentence “

Do as you please – as long as you do not hurt anyone else.”

This sentence is in fact the main guiding principle of Witchcraft & Wicca activity. It states that you may do as you please as long as you do not hurt anyone else – including yourself. This rule means that the person must always be aware of the consequences of every deed, and how it affects others. The word “others” does not only refer to people who the person knows or does not know, but also to nature, to “Mother Earth,” and to the members of her family – the plant, animal, and mineral kingdoms.

Most witches and wizards weigh up every action before they actually perform it. If any damage is liable to be caused, they assess the level of damage and then select a manner of action that will not cause damage. Upholding the “do not hurt” sentence leads naturally to an “ecological” way of life. The person may well become a “green,” become a different kind of consumer in order to generate less refuse and pollution, maintain good neighborly relations, and so on.

What causes “damage” or “harm” to Mother Earth is a central topic of interest and conversation in wicca groups. In the main, people agree that “damage” or “harm” includes negative actions, actions that have a deleterious effect on others or on oneself. Occasionally, a lack of action is also liable to cause tremendous damage.

About Oshion

Among gypsies, Oshion rules over all matters of fortune and fate, including having the good timing it takes to really see a lot of luck! As we go about our summer activities, oShion keeps things interesting by mixing in a little serendipity.

To Do Today: Legend tells us that Gabriel declared this day among the most fortuitous on the calendar, especially for those wanting to travel, find a new home, improve their health, or embark on any prosperous project (like looking for a new job). oShion joins in these efforts by adding even more luck to a day already filled with positive influences. Take out any lucky items and wear or carry them today to augment the energy further.

Add luck-inspiring foods and spices to your diet to help you internalize your good fortune and make it last longer than twenty-four hours. Examples include consuming oranges, pineapples, and strawberries (or juices from these fruits) for breakfast. Or, bake with allspice and nutmeg. As you dress, add a rose or violet to your outfit; both of these vibrate on lucky levels. Alternatively, carry a piece of turquoise, a piece of jet, or an apache tear in your pocket to transport oShion’s good fortune wherever you go today. Leave an extra stone at home to encourage luck there, too!

Magical Days Of the Week – Tuesday

Named for the Norse god Tyr, who was a deity of heroism and combat, Tuesday is a very martial sort of day – color associations include bright red and oranges, as well as warrior-like metals such as iron and steel.

The ancient Romans called this day Martis, after the warrior god Mars – other deities associated with Tuesday include Ares, the Morrighan, and other gods of battle and glory. Red gemstones like rubies and garnets come into play on Tuesdays, as do herbs and plants such as thistles, holly, coneflowers and cacti – you’ll notice these are all sharp, prickly plants!

One of the interesting – and more than a little amusing – aspects of Tuesday magic is that in addition to war and conflict against your enemies, this is a day also associated with marriage. You can also use this day of the week for magical workings connected to protection and initiation. Use Tuesday to assert yourself, make a mark and stake your claims.

Tuesday’s Witchery

Tuesday’s Witchery

Tuesday is the day to work any magick that falls in the category of increasing strength, courage, bravery, and passion. All of these intense emotions are linked to this day’s energies, and spells designed around these themes will have extra punch when performed on this magickal day.

So, let’s add a little passion and conviction into your life! Break out the daring red pieces of your wardrobe, and put a little pizzazz into your day. Work with Lilith, and see what she has to teach you about personal power and sexuality. Meditate on Tiw/Tyr and Mars, and see what those ancient warrior gods will show you about new tactics, strategies, and claiming personal victories in your life. Practice conjuring up that astral weapon from the meditation and use it wisely for protection and for courage.

Create a philter for courage and protection or handcraft your own Witch’s jar to remove negativity from your home. See what other Witch crafts you can conjure up with Tuesday’s magick. Create some kitchen magick on this Tuesday by whipping up a spicy stew-add in a few Mars-associated ingredients such as carrots, peppers, and garlic. Empower the stew for success, and then treat yourself and your family to a good, hearty meal. Try working with a little aromatherapy and burn some spicy or coffee-scented candles to increase your energy level.

Check the sky at night, and see if you can find the reddish planet Mars up in the heavens. Not sure where to look? Check an astronomy magazine or search the Web for more information. Become a magickal warrior and move forward in your life with strength, courage, and compassion. Embrace the side of yourself that loves a good challenge and that is passionate and daring! Banish fear, and face your future with strength and conviction. Believe in yourself and in your dreams, work hard, and you will win every time.

The Witches Tuesday

Tuesday is the day of the week between Monday and Wednesday. The name comes from Middle English Twisday, from Old English Tiwes dæg, named after the Nordic god Tyr, who was the equivalent of the Roman war god Mars.

In Latin, it is called Martis dies which means “Mars Day”. In Romance languages except Portuguese, the word for “Tuesday” is similar to the Latin name: mardi in French, martes in Spanish, martedì in Italian, dimarts in Catalan, and marÅ£i in Romanian.

Portuguese uses numbers instead of pagan names and so their word for “Tuesday” is terça-feira.
The English and Scandinavian names are derived from the Nordic god Týr:

Old English: Tiw, Tew, or Tiu
Swedish: Tisdag
Danish: Tirsdag
Norwegian: Tirsdag or Tysdag
Icelandic: Týsdagur
Finnish: Tiistai (borrowed)

The German word Dienstag and the Dutch word Dinsdag seems to be derived from the god referred to by the Romans as Mars Thingsus, the god of the thing, which might also be Týr, or possibly some other Germanic god.

The Russian word for “Tuesday” is vtórnik, meaning “second”; that is, counting Tuesday as the second day of the week.

Quakers traditionally referred to Tuesday as “Third Day” eschewing the pagan origin of the English name “Tuesday”. This has also been the custom in Iceland since about the 11th century when Jón Ögmundsson changed it to Þriðjudagur, meaning “Third Day”

In the Greek world, Tuesday (the day of the week of the Fall of Constantinople) is considered an unlucky day. The same is true in the Spanish-speaking world, where a proverb runs En martes, ni te cases ni te embarques (On Tuesday, neither get married nor begin a journey). For both Greeks and Spanish-speakers, the 13th of the month is considered unlucky if it falls on Tuesday, instead of Friday.

The Hindi/Bengali/Nepali/Gujarati/Punjabi/Marathi/Urdu word for Tuesday is Mangalwar, with Mangal being the Sanskrit name for the planet Mars.

In the Thai solar calendar, the day is named for the Pali word for the planet Mars, which also means “Ashes of the Dead”; the color associated with Tuesday is Pink.

Tuesday is the usual day for elections in the United States. Federal elections take place on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November; this date was established by a law of 1845 for presidential elections (specifically for the selection of the Electoral College), and was extended to elections for the House of Representatives in 1875 and for the Senate in 1914. Tuesday was the earliest day of the week which was practical for polling in the early nineteenth century: citizens might have to travel for a whole day to cast their vote, and would not wish to leave on Sunday which was a day of worship for the great majority of them.

In business, particularly office work, studies have shown that Tuesday is usually the most productive day of the week. Some of these people consider Tuesday to be their least favorite day, because they are not as relaxed as Monday (due to the weekend preceding it), yet they still have most of the work week ahead of them.

In French, Tuesday is “Mardi”, associating it with the planet Mars. Tuesday is also associated with the dwarf planet Pluto. This marries Tuesday with ideas of strife, battles to be won and pressing issues and jobs to get sorted. It is not a day to relax. This same meaning can be seen in the Spanish “Martes” and the English “Tuesday” (“Tyr’s day.”) In India, Tuesday is called “Mangalvar”, for the Vedic planet Mangala or Mars.

The ancients used the wood of the Holly in the construction of weapons, but also in protective magic.

Hang a sprig of Holly in your house to ensure good luck and safety to your family. Wear as a charm, or make Holly Water by soaking leaves overnight in spring water under a full moon — then use the water as a blessing to sprinkle on people or around the house for protection and cleansing.
