She’s also a warrior and a keeper of the slain. She gets first pick of souls that fall in battle- even before Odin. She very much has a dual nature. Interestingly enough, while it’s not uncommon for warrior goddesses to lose their more vicious aspects in modern cultus, I feel that Freya is almost beginning to lose her gentler stories. Like the warrior aspect is beginning to dominate over her roles as a goddess of fertility, sensuality, sexuality, communing with the dead, what we might call low magic, trance magic, and oracular magic. She’s a goddess of many, many skills… and most folks just want to draw her with a sword. I’m glad you found a picture that remembers that there’s more to her story.
