Message for March 2016
Breathing is something that most living beings do naturally; it is an automatic reflex that sustains life. There are moments that take our breath away and there are moments where we consciously choose to meditate or breathe more deeply into life but there are many, many more moments where we don’t even think about breathing. As a result, it can be easy not to notice the small decrease in the breath that occurs over months or years. Life often throws obstacles and challenges, and the response is to inhale in order to ‘shrink’ our essence slightly as intuitively it feels safer to be ‘smaller’. Over time, these inhalations accumulate and although this is more spiritual or energetic than physical, we begin to feel a sense of disconnection and discord.
Because the changes have been so slight and gradual, it’s so hard to notice, so when those feelings of disconnection grow bigger, we can feel at a loss as we don’t know why. We intuitively sense something’s amiss but it can feel nebulous and ill-defined. We may try to seek out clarity and direction, healing and respite, but until we realise the true cause, we can falter at our attempts.
For some, the feelings of disconnect can become so great we break, and the life we’ve been sustaining starts to feel hollow and meaningless. Often when we reach ‘rock bottom’ we see ourselves and our lives with fresh eyes and a new perspective. It is at such moments when we find ourselves free to take a big deep breath of life and realise just how much we’ve reduced our energetic breath and presence in the world. It can feel overwhelming to breathe deeply as layers and façades fall away and we find ourselves facing truth after truth. Yet it feels liberating and exhilarating as we feel the air filling every part of our souls as we reconnect to life and to our true essence. Everything somehow feels altered and we see possibilities where we once saw brick walls.
Yet, we don’t have to wait until we break in order to breathe deeply, if we can consciously choose to step beyond the self-created boundaries of our souls, we can reconnect to the bigger picture and begin to feel more integrated and whole once again. We become disconnected because we disconnect ourselves from life through fear or caution; often to protect or preserve. This is a personal choice and, of course, there’s no guarantee that a deep reconnection will suddenly make life wonderful, but it will remind us to see life both inside and outside of ourselves in order to shatter those boundaries and take strides toward the life we were born to live…
With love,

March looks set to be a month of continued expansion and liberation as you continue to reconnect to your true sense of self. Although you have always had a stronger sense of self than most, there is a sense that your continued attempts to people please and to ‘do the right thing’ has left you distinctly out of sorts with yourself. Whilst all is not lost, there are times when you feel awkward and bent out of shape in the world as though the outer you and the inner you don’t quite fit together in harmony. When you feel this awkwardness, you can feel quite restless and an urge to escape or run for the hills can surface which can feel extremely enticing. However, your strong sense of duty holds you back and you keep on keeping on, fighting the urge and resisting the temptation to break free. There is a sense of a misplaced belief at the core of all of this: a belief that if you honour your own needs you will somehow become ‘less than’ in the eyes of others.
Although you don’t live for the approval of others you have grown friendly with it over the years. Yet, if you travel deeper beneath your surface you will realise that the need for validation is not your true motivator even though it feels like it is. Your true motivator is, was, and always will be, a need to have the fires of creativity and the sparks of compassion thriving deep within. You were born to make a difference and when you are feeling warm and fuzzy within, intuitively you know you are on the right track in life. Listen to the inner fire and let this be your guide; stop looking outside of yourself…

It’s a common human tendency to manage life by boxing it up and taking it with you wherever you go. You keep numerous boxes marked ‘miscellaneous’ or ‘?’ and feel you should keep them ‘just in case’. As a result, it’s easy to end up carrying lorry loads of random boxes of ‘stuff’ be it physical, emotional or otherwise. However, as you continue to discover and explore new terrain in your life, there is a growing sense of freedom rising up from deep within the core of your being as you begin to see your life from a new perspective. It’s as though you have opened your eyes more fully and you are seeing your life and the world with a new sense of motivation and gusto. The waves of your enthusiasm may ebb and flow with the currents of life, but you cannot help but feel a surge of expansiveness within inspiring you to not only look ‘beyond the box’ but to recycle the box and find a new perspective in a ‘brave box-less world’ filled with possibility. You’ve never been one to be pigeonholed, so why be boxed?
The tingles of anticipation and eagerness are hard to ignore but there are days when they feel more like an irritation or a distraction as they take your focus away from the business of keeping on keeping on. But there are other days when you embrace the tingles, and contemplate and explore new pathways in life. You, therefore, find yourself torn between tingles and your ‘to do’ list: duty versus freedom. Deep within you believe that you can only have either one or the other, not both. Remember: you’re leaving the boxed world of either/or, and you’re ready now to find a new way…

‘Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue, and the dreams that you dare to dream, really do come true’. The lyrics of this classic song seem quite apt for you at the current time as it’s a powerful reflection of the seemingly whimsical frame of mind you find yourself in. Okay, there are times when life feels heavy and full of things to do, people to see and places to go, but when you find a moment to yourself you find yourself drifting off over the rainbow into a world full of possibilities and dream fulfilment. It’s just a shame that you see this possibility-fuelled world as over the rainbow rather than in the here and now as this perspective keeps it constantly out of your reach. Beliefs are powerful and, when you allow them to shape and define your life, you can begin to lose sight of your intuitive wisdom and true essence. Whilst many beliefs are positive and nourishing, there are some that have outgrown their usefulness and there are others that have only ever proven to be toxic or diminishing.
It’s time to have a good sort out of your magical box of beliefs in order to define a new way of living and being. Dreams don’t only come true somewhere over the rainbow, you know that dreams can come true in the here and now. Whilst nothing in life is guaranteed, believing that ‘over the rainbow’ is the only place to find happiness keeps you locked in linear time chasing horizons (rainbows) and contemplating the life you’d like to have. Over time this becomes an avoidance of grabbing hold of life and living now. So, bring the rainbow within and let it illuminate your soul as it’s your time to dare to dream your dreams…

Being you rather than being the person you think you ought to be has been something of a challenge for you in life. You have always wanted to do your best to help, please and appease others; trying to be the strawberry jam in the Victoria Sponge cake of life that holds everything together. Trouble is, you’re not particularly fond of strawberry jam and you’ve grown rather bored of it over the years. Yet, here you are, still trying to be the person you feel you ought to be rather than risk upsetting the balance. Everyone in your life contributes to the cake, you are not sole cake-baker and keep-it-all-togetherer; the buck doesn’t stop at your feet. So, why do you feel that you have to try so hard to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders, taking life so seriously and feeling a huge burden of being the perfect strawberry jam?
Stuff happens, life happens, and if you continue to try to be the person you feel you ought to be then you will start to feel increasingly out of sync. The word ‘ought’ rarely suggests a positive balance as it emanates a vibe of obligation, necessity and unwillingness. There is no joy in ‘ought’; it feels heavy and onerous. Yet, shift your focus from ‘ought’ to ‘want to’ and the whole dynamic changes! So, the big question for you in March is ‘who do you want to be?’ Hopefully the answer is to be yourself, if so, then what’s stopping you? You don’t have to be strawberry jam for the rest of your life, nor do you have to be the cake baker. Enough analogies! Just be you and love yourself for it…

March looks set to be a month of inspired and creative vision as you begin to feel that fiery spark within you rising up and warming the cockles of your soul. You have been busy recently trying to do your best to keep on keeping on with the business of getting on with life. You have had much to do, see and achieve just to keep the wheels turning on the big bus of your life, and this has been a distraction on many levels. Although there is always much to do, see and achieve in your life, there is a distinct sense of discord between what you want to be doing and what you need/ought to be doing. As a result of your discombobulated state, you haven’t noticed the fiery red heat of creativity that’s been seeping up through the cracks. Like molten lava it’s red hot but it’s pooling up as there’s no channels of creativity for it to flow into.
This is partly because you are so busy keeping on keeping on and this has created dams within your soul but it’s also because of a hesitation within you to embrace this creative heat and channel it passionately and confidently. This hesitation seems to come from a layer of self-doubt that’s crept in over time, possibly as a result of listening to the opinions and judgements of others a little too much but also as a result of constantly trying to be the best you possible. It may seem somewhat ironic that, by trying to be the best you possible, you are damming up your creative spark, but you need to explore your motivations and what drives you towards being the best you possible: duty, desire, passion? Let your spark twinkle and let it lead the way…
Virgo
♍
You are a thoughtful, diligent and conscientious individual, and you spend a lot of time thinking about the choices and options before you at any given moment and it can take you a while to weigh up the pros and cons as the scales constantly shift and change. It’s therefore hard to find a little bit of solid ground on which to sit and take stock of yourself and your life. The constant movement can feel quite disorientating and bewildering at times as the noise of life gets louder and, despite your best efforts to find some stillness, it doesn’t come. It’s a bit like having a clear head with a clean desk and a scattered brain with a messy desk: you need space and clarity in order to make sense of life by taking a step back even further to see the bigger picture of the bigger picture and the finer details of the fine details. Yet, this takes you progressively further away from the middle ground you seek and the space doesn’t come as the wheels of life keep turning, and turning.
In other words, life feels a tad overwhelming at the moment and the more you try to step back and make sense of why things are the way they are, the more confused you are becoming. Yet all is not lost! Maybe by looking at the finer details of the bigger picture and the bigger picture of the finer details you will reach a point of connection in the middle? Only a Virgo could understand that. March looks set to be a month for not trying so hard to make sense of life and to instead start to live in it real time: in the present moment…

Although you’re something of a free spirit in your heart and soul, the somewhat formidable power of your mind can be a dominant force in your life as it shapes and defines your thoughts, actions and choices. As a result, you often feel as though your free spirit is like a bird caged within as your mind finds reasons ‘not to’ and talks you out of stepping into unknown terrain. Caution can be very healthy but immovability is not such a bonus as it can prevent you from breathing fully into life. Over the years you have created your very own rule book which you adhere to; you can be quite strict with yourself at times and your inner dialogue can be like Miss Trunchbull on a bad day. You don’t like to stray from the rules, after all, they were set for good reason. Yet, who wrote the rule book? Oh, you. So, if you wrote it, can’t you make some new rules?
Underneath the Trunchbull (see Matilda) you have a soft, creative and magical heart but you hold it back in life, fearing the unknowable unknown. Yet, life is, by it’s very nature, unknowable, so do you plan on holding back forever? Sometimes, being you isn’t about following the strict rules you’ve set for yourself, sometimes being you is about tossing the rule book out of the window and allowing your free spirit the room to dance. Your inner Miss Trunchbull is only fearsome because you created her that way; use the magic of your imagination and shift your perspective to something softer and more self-compassionate. Love yourself, be yourself and allow your free spirit the room to flow freely as you seem ready now to step towards pastures new…
Scorpio
♏
March looks set to be a month of continued insight and inspiration as the storm clouds begin to clear revealing a dazzling clear blue sky. Storms come and go in many forms and it seems the one you’ve been facing lately has created a great deal of inner unrest and discontentment as it’s brought a lot of previously buried detritus to the surface. Detritus is not necessarily a bad thing; it’s generally the result of the accumulation of years of ‘stuff’: physical, emotional and spiritual day to day experiences, thoughts and events that appear to serve no particular purpose other than taking up space in your consciousness. Collecting it all becomes a habit and it simply builds up over time as you leave it in situ ‘just in case’ it may one day come in handy.
However, when layer upon layer of detritus surfaces it can feel quite overwhelming as it clogs up your connection to the world and you can feel bogged down with even mundane things in life. Although you are beginning to see the blue skies once again, lots of the detritus was blasted into oblivion leaving you feeling lighter. Life often creates storms but this one has felt more like a self-orchestrated one as you grew weary of being weighed down in life. As a result, you questioned yourself deeply causing the winds to whip up and the storm clouds to roll in. This is a gift of Scorpio: the formidable power to initiate inner shift. It may sometimes feel like a curse but it gives you the chance to break free and embark on a brand new adventure in life…

Being yourself continues to take centre stage in your life but being you is rarely as easy as it sounds. In some ways you are like a chameleon with an ability to change and adapt whatever situation you find yourself in but this has become so automatic over the years, you are not always conscious of just how much you bend and flex with the wind. At the same time, your chameleon, shape-shifting speciality was designed to help you to make the most of life and to live the best life possible. However, over time, you’ve stopped using it selectively and find yourself trying to fit into life events and situations which previously you’d turn from and run for the hills. Maybe the inevitable list of duties and responsibilities, ‘oughts’ and ‘shoulds’ have worn you down? Of course, life changes and you change but you’ve turned your adaptive skill into a coping mechanism in order to keep on keeping on. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with this but it lacks the sparkle and va-va voom of your sometimes incorrigible Sagittarian optimism and enthusiasm.
In short, it seems you have settled for what you have and where you are, and done your best to adapt which feels distinctly un-like you. You thrive and flourish in the driving seat, going off-road and exploring unchartered terrain. Settling with where you’ve ended up suggests you haven’t consciously made a choice and although life doesn’t always allow a footloose and fancy-free approach, words like ‘should’, ‘must’ and ‘ought’ really don’t fit easily into your vocabulary. March looks set to be a time to take an honest look at yourself and your life in order to re-inject some magic, sparkle and adventure…

These days most people have playlists of music on their phones or iPods; only a determined few have cd or vinyl collections. With the press of a button a new song is available instantaneously: no need to go to a record shop or hold something real and tangible like a record. One tiny device can carry thousands of songs and so much more. The same for books: digital books don’t take up space or gather dust; it’s possible to carry a few hundred or more virtual books which is considerably harder with the real thing. Yet, is something digital truly not the ‘real thing’ or is it simply an alternative? Some love the smell and feel of a book but others love the ease of the digital book; does this make the digital lovers wrong or the book lovers old-fashioned? Surely in the world in which we live there’s room for both?
You’re a bit of stickler for doing things properly but even you can see the ease of the digital age. Digital doesn’t always mean better but you can see it’s benefits. However, there are areas of your life where you prefer to do things as you always have rather than explore newer methods or ideologies. There is a sense that your desire to stick to the familiar has served you well in life but you have reached a stage of impasse as it’s hard to move forward until you actually take a step forward. You seem keen to change as long as it doesn’t mean changing! Yet, new ideas don’t have to destroy the old, they can merge and blend together into something unique to you. Embracing the new takes courage but you seem ready now…
Aquarius
♒
As you continue to step more consciously into the ebb and flow of life you are beginning to keep your awareness more in the here and now and less in the ‘over there and maybe’. You are a visionary, so looking forward and striding towards the horizon are part of your genetic makeup but this can sometimes trip you up causing you to stumble and falter with self-doubt and uncertainty. There are times in your life when it’s important to gaze at the grass growing at your feet rather than the grass of the other side of the fence (even if it does look lush and fertile). This doesn’t mean you should stop striding forth and visualising your dreams but it suggests a need to ground yourself much more in the here and now. The infinite spectrum of possibility and potential in you can sometimes switch on your statistician’s head as you try to calculate the odds of making the ‘best decision’ but this can, once again, take you away from the present.
There are times in life when just being at one with the magic of the moment is all you need. In that moment you step out of your mind and reconnect to your intuition and sense of self; everything starts to slip more effortlessly into place. March is one such time as you seem ready now to make some big choices about your path ahead and it seems the less you focus on the destination and the more you focus on the here and now, the clearer things will become as you stop gazing ahead at those horizons and instead start being more conscious and aware in the moment enabling you to connect to your true essence. Trust your intuition and let it lead the way…
Pisces
♓
There are two distinct sides to the human penny of your life. On one side is the face seen the most: the one where you bend yourself backwards for others and frequently sacrifice your own needs as a result. This is the side of you that often feels discordant as the weight of the burdens you so often carry bears heavily on your heart and soul. You don’t resent this burden but there are times when it squashes your vibrancy and creativity. On the other side of the coin, it’s shiny and bright with an effervescent and light energy. This side represents the core of you: your true essence. The shiny side of the penny feels precious and special as it represents all of those facets of you that you hold dear: your creativity and your sparkling vision of the life you intuitively know you were born to live. This is the side you often sacrifice for the sake of others.
Emotions surge up within you if you contemplate saying ‘No!’ to someone and these emotions can overwhelm you with guilt, so it’s important to ask why? Why would saying no be so difficult? Is guilt truly at the core of this or is the distraction of being the best you for others somehow more comfortable as it means you’re simply too busy to take a good look within? Only you can answer this question but your soul is keen to dance now; the coin is as shiny as ever so why not flip it over and gaze at it for a while? You will always be a giving, compassionate soul but it’s also important to be self-compassionate as well. Give yourself moments of ‘you-ness’, love yourself and allow your true essence some space to wriggle and breathe as this will help restore some much needed balance in your life…
