WARNING SPELL
This one is a good substitute for a hex, when your fear or anger tempts you in that direction:

If I ever use this should I protect myself first?

I think it really depends on your comfort level with spells like this. I have done similar spells like this and have never thought of protecting myself. But I keep a shield up at all times too. If you keep a shield up, then I don’t believe protection is really necessary. If you aren’t using a shield and not in the practice of doing so, I would say yes, protect yourself first. I believe when you practice magick or basically live a magick life, it is wonderful practice of keeping a shield up.
