March 6th
Nones of March/Junonalia/Phra Buddha Bat Fair
In ancient ROme, Nones (in Latin, “Nonae”) were the nine days before the Ides (the 7th in long months and the 5th in other months) when the holidays for the month were announced. Junonalia honored the Goddess Juno with a procession of 27 girls, dressed in long flowing robes, accompanied by an image of the Goddess carved from the wood of a cypress tree.
On this day in Thailiand, the annul bat fair is held in honor of the Buddha’s footprint. The festival features folk dancing and traditional handcrafts. Local shrines and statues are honored with food, flowers and personal offerings of thread and yard.
