Mother Nature’s Golden Rule

Health is a product of internal harmony and the expression of vitality. Our well-being should be pursued with cautious patience. Tonics are gentle and have been proven effective for thousands of years. They are highly nutritious foods requiring special preparation and application. We should approach these tonics with respect, never abusing their benefits carelessly. Too much of a good thing is still too much! Give your body time to appreciate these new foods, just as you would nurture  a child.

Tonic herbs have several properties and may also be indicated when disease is not present. They are excellent choices for preventative measures. Be sure to use them in moderation and observe how your body reacts to the energy. Allow tonic herbs to keep you young and beautiful like Mother Nature herself.

Oh glorious morning, Spring is in the Air!

Good morning dear friends! Happy Spring to you all! Happy and Blessed Ostara (depending on where you are) to you all!

I must apologize to you for yesterday. I know my postings ended rather abruptly. It was my birthday and he whisked me off for the day. I have to admit it was probably one of the best birthdays I have ever had. We went to all my favorite stores and I purchased a couple of things. Then later on that evening, we went out to eat with all the kids. Surprised me, my son brought both of his little girls. The older one (she is 4) has started to wear glasses. She looked so cute. She won’t have to wear the glasses the rest of her life. My son’s wife told us that she has a stigmatizam (might be spelled wrong) and the glasses should correct it. The baby (almost a year) didn’t give a hoot about anything.  She was passed around from one person to the next and the little devil enjoyed every minute of it. She can have the biggest smile on her face. The next minute, she is picking something up and throwing it or pulling her sister’s hair. I was watching them while we ate supper. When they told one of the kids “no,” they would play at telling them “no.”  Like goofy sounds, then they would say, “no.” To me, that just confused the child. Outside my son’s wife told us that the kids were going to drive her crazy and she was serious too. After my son goes to work, her grandmother comes down to the house to help her take care of the kids??? I don’t get! I would never seriously stand up and tell someone my kids were going to drive me crazy. I believe that is what they have a butt for. I never beat my kids but I did pop their butts and tell them no. And they knew I meant no. I know the oldest child of their was out here at the house. We were sitting in the floor playing and she got up and just slapped me in the face. My daughter told me, she thought I was going to pick her up and bust her butt. I told her, “We were through playing.” got up and went outside to smoke a cigarette. Neither my son or his wife did nothing. But if they don’t start making them mind, they are going to have some wild childs on their hands.

Enough of my birthday festivities, now in celebration of Ostara and Spring Equinox, the Witches are going green for a day.  I haven’t exactly figured out what I am going to put on here but it will be green for sure. I can cover ecology to fairies. I thought it might be something you would like and it would be different. Whether you like it or not, remember it is just for the day. I do hope you enjoy it and find something useful.

Happy & Blessed Ostara! Happy Spring!

Runecast for Saturday March 19

The rune today is Ehwaz of Tyr’s Aett Ehwaz pronounced “ay-wawz” or Ehwo “ay-woh” (E: A horse, two horses) Transportation. May represent a horse, car, plane, boat or other vehicle. Movement and change for the better. Gradual development and steady progress are indicated. Harmony, teamwork, trust, loyalty. An ideal marriage or partnership. Confirmation beyond doubt the meanings of the runes around it.

The Horse slowly moves her load. She doesn’t hurry, the road is long. Movement. Gradual but steady change. Your new life-style may look like a long road. It may be connected with real travel or with a change of job or house. Success won’t come quickly, so don’t hurry. It will arise naturally as a result of steady progress. The horse can carry a load and this means taking on board a duty or burden involving service to others, but this will bring you personal success.

Ehwaz Reversed or Merkstave: This is not really a negative rune. A change is perhaps craved. Feeling restless or confined in a situation. Reckless haste, disharmony, mistrust, betrayal. (Note: the reversed or merkstave definitions are included only for reference as they apply to a multi-rune cast and not to a single rune that’s drawn blind from the pouch)

As with all, take only what feels right to you and disregard the rest.

Today’s I Ching Hexagram for 3/19

Today’s I Ching Hexagram for Everyone:

34: Great Vigor

Saturday, March 19th, 2011

Hexagram 34
General Meaning: Congratulations! There is strength and vigor in this situation — like a ram who has knocked down a fence to free himself from captivity. This points to a time when a powerful force comes into its own and achieves influence.

When a leader finally comes into power, his or her personal strength usually has peaked. Great strength is required in climbing to the mountaintop, but once at the summit, the support of others is needed to maintain that lofty position. A shift in attitude becomes necessary. Raw strength must be tempered by wisdom; to maintain power, a strong leader must learn to give it away, to share it with others. Only then will his or her position be secure, for she will not only be the possessor of power, but the source of it as well.

If you find yourself in a high or strong position, it is especially important to act responsibly and react with care. Your personal power must not be allowed to degenerate into raw force that rides roughshod over everything in its path. A strong sense of responsibility to the collective good of all is the key to the successful exercise of strength. By following what we intuitively know to be for the greater good, we avoid reckless abuses of power that in the end undermine the source of our strength. Arrogance always contains the seeds of its own undoing.

Today’s Tarot Card for 3/19

Today’s Tarot Card for Everyone:

The Moon

This Tarot Deck: Universal Waite

General Meaning: What has traditionally been known as the Moon card refers to a deep state of sensitivity and imaginative impressionability, developed within a womb of deep relaxation. Here we dream and go into trance, have visions and receive insights, wash in and out with the psychic tides, and experience deep mystical and/or terrifying realities beyond our ordinary senses. The full moon and/or eclipse cycle charted by the Magi (as in some of the earliest Moon card images) exemplify this as a mechanism that Nature uses to expand consciousness.

The variants of the courtly lovers (representing skillful use of the sex force) or the man sleeping it off under the tree (use of drugs to alter consciousness) are also traditional avenues for tapping this primal force. Human interest in higher states propels us to the frontiers of consciousness, where we cannot always control what happens. The Moon card represents the ultimate test of a soul’s integrity, where the membrane between self and the Unknown is removed, and the drop of individuality reenters the Ocean of Being. What transpires next is between a soul and its Maker.

New Moon Report for 3/19 – Full Moon in Virgo

Full Moon in Virgo

Saturday, March 19, 11:10 am PDT, 2:10 pm EDT

The high emotional tides of this Full Moon are intensified by excitable Uranus’ conjunction with the Sun and opposition to the Moon. Normally, this lunation in orderly Virgo contrasts pragmatism with the Sun in Pisces’ penchant for fantasy as we seek to rebalance this relationship. Uranus’ presence, though, shatters the atmosphere with sudden emotional shifts and unexpected events. Flexibility is a must when dealing with these inner and outer surprises because rigidity only increases the tension. Open minds reveal short cuts and help liberate us from boring routines and outmoded dreams.

Your Daily Horoscopes for 3/19

General Daily Horoscope

We can use logic while seeking solutions to the complex issues of life today with the analytical Virgo Full Moon at 2:10 pm EDT. However, the Sun in psychic Pisces tells us that it’s also okay to rely on our irrational intuition. This conflict is made more difficult because the Full Moon quincunxes confusing Neptune. Thankfully, the Moon enters fair-minded Libra at 4:03 pm, helping us to restore balance between our cool heads and our warm hearts.

Aries Horoscope
Aries Horoscope (Mar 21 – Apr 19)

Although you may have a lot of work on your plate today, boredom sets in quickly. However, it’s not time yet to leave your current routine behind, even if your fantasies of escape are quite vivid. Don’t let go of your dreams; just put them on the back burner for now. After your commitments are fulfilled you can explore ways to break free.

Taurus Horoscope
Taurus Horoscope (Apr 20 – May 20)

You may play the role of the serious romantic today and could benefit from stirring up interest within an existing relationship or looking for a new one. But your somber approach could prevent you from reaching your goals. Fortunately, a sudden breakthrough can change everything in an instant. If you are struck by the light of truth now, don’t fight it.

Gemini Horoscope
Gemini Horoscope (May 21 – Jun 20)

Normally, you make promises with the intent of keeping them, but this isn’t such a normal day. Something unexpected could occur, causing you to go back on your word and giving you a bit of explaining to do. But looking for reasons may be futile now. Instead of trying to figure out what happened, concentrate on improving the current situation. Focus your attention on being practical and save the philosophical inquiry for another day.

Cancer Horoscope
Cancer Horoscope (June 21 – Jul 22)

Your goals may shift today, leaving you floundering with uncertainty as you approach the weekend. Changing your schedule might not be worth the stress; just follow through with your previous commitments, exactly as promised. Nobody has to know what you are thinking now, even if your heart isn’t being fed by your current actions. Nevertheless, don’t keep your thoughts inside because you’ll feel a lot freer after they are out in the open.

Leo Horoscope
Leo Horoscope (Jul 23 – Aug 22)

You may be very hard on yourself today, even if you feel the emotional support of others through their words and praise. Still, you are tempted to ignore a friend’s optimistic perspective or might even question his loyalty. Your non-conformist point of view could precipitate a crisis if you begin to doubt your own judgment. Simply employ the healthiest strategy possible based upon what you already know.

Virgo Horoscope
Virgo Horoscope (Aug 23 – Sep 22)

Today’s Virgo Full Moon in your 1st House of Physicality is likely creating stress in your body. How you are able to move with this intense energy flow could be a mystery, yet your happiness depends upon finding a sensible solution. Don’t try to force the issue. When others see that you can be graceful under pressure, they will continue to accept you as their leader, whether or not you asked for the part.

Libra Horoscope
Libra Horoscope (Sep 23 – Oct 22)

You may be feeling a bit discouraged today and it could be particularly difficult to shake off the negative energy. You might attempt to share a previously hidden story, yet the more you talk, the less you’ll be able to remember about your problem. The more you attempt to reconstruct your buried feelings, the more elusive they become. Just relax and don’t try to change anything. Your happiness may be waiting around the very next corner.

Scorpio Horoscope
Scorpio Horoscope (Oct 23 – Nov 21)

Today’s Full Moon floods your 11th House of Long-Term Goals and activates your dreams. Although your spirit feels revitalized, the Full Moon’s opposition to unorthodox Uranus urges you to take a risky shortcut. However, hard work is the best way to get what you want. Meanwhile, the looming Sun-Uranus conjunction continues to tempt you to experiment. Instead, stick to the tried and true method over a radical new course of action.

Sagittarius Horoscope
Sagittarius Horoscope (Nov 22 – Dec 21)

The Virgo Full Moon illuminates your 10th House of Status today, giving you the impetus to dig in your heels and make a political statement. Although you may see yourself as a radical troublemaker, you might not be as disruptive as you think you are now. Thankfully, you won’t need to turn everything upside down in order to make the progress you seek.

Capricorn Horoscope
Capricorn Horoscope (Dec 22 – Jan 19)

The pragmatic Virgo Full Moon should help you to keep your mind on your work. However, she is rattling your 9th House of Adventure, encouraging your secret dreams about going on a spiritual journey. For now, it’s smarter to set aside impractical ideas of traveling around the world. Rather than flying off to a foreign land, try studying its culture or learning its language, instead. You may end up discovering there are many ways to feed your wanderlust.

Aquarius Horoscope
Aquarius Horoscope (Jan 20 – Feb 18)

Your heated interactions with others today could be motivated by fear, whether you know it or not. You’re afraid that a powerful person may be trying to control you, yet you don’t really understand the reason. Fortunately, your current concerns will probably fade quickly, but you’re still better off investigating further to quell any uncertainty. Be cautious in negotiations; a lack of finality now won’t necessarily slow you down in the long run.

Pisces Horoscope
Pisces Horoscope (Feb 19 – Mar 20)

Today’s Full Moon in your 7th House of Others is a reflection of the Great Paradox for you thin-skinned Fish. You must exist as part of a greater whole, since the school is more important than any one fish. However, you are also required to stand up for yourself by expressing your individuality. You may feel as if you’re walking a fine line between being overly flexible and stubbornly rigid. The key to your current happiness now is practicing moderation in everything you do.

Chicken Soup for the Soul: Marathon Mom

Chicken Soup for the Soul: Marathon Mom

Chicken Soup for the Soul: Runners

BY: Bonnie West

We are different, in essence, from other men. If you want to win something, run 100 meters. If you want to experience something, run a marathon.
~Emil Zatopek

In 1980, when my children were old enough to stay alone for a few minutes, but young enough that it had to be only a few, I decided to make a dash to the store. I was thirty-four and breathlessly shocked that I couldn’t run two blocks without stopping. It was at that moment I was humiliated enough to take up jogging. We lived near a park and the trek from my house around the park and back was a mile and a half. Day after day I ran the course until I could do it without stopping. I was a runner! Unfortunately I was soon an injured runner with no idea how to stop the pains in my shins, but I did know who to ask. Twice a day I would see a fellow run past my house. I knew he lived in the white house right across from the park. He seemed to run a little more than I did, so I figured he’d know what to do. I knocked on the door and the guy I’d seen running so often answered. He introduced himself as Garry and listened while I told him I was a runner (I actually said that) and asked if he knew anything about running injuries. He gave me lots of advice and suggested I go to a running store and replace my little tennis shoes with something better.

At the store I mentioned my neighbor and was treated like royalty. The clerk explained that the guy I’d been talking to was Garry Bjorklund, the Olympic runner, and didn’t I know who he was? I knew enough to be totally embarrassed that I’d called myself a runner in his presence and resolved then and there to actually become one.

So I trained. Every day I ran a 5-mile loop, usually around 5:00 AM before my husband and kids woke up, and every day I would meet Bjorklund and a friend heading out as I was coming home. They always encouraged me, and I always picked up the pace.

In the fall of 1981, after a summer of intense training, I ran the City of Lakes Marathon. In order to get a T-shirt, you had to finish in less than four hours. I know it’s shocking, but in those days, there were no bags of treats, medals, prizes, and news coverage. There were just some time officials, awards for the top finishers, and a T-shirt for finishing in under four hours. I finished the grueling 26.2 miles in about 4 hours and 20 minutes, which might very well have been last place. Most everyone had gone home except a wonderful volunteer who vowed to stay until the last person finished. But I was too late for the shirt.

I went home that day, thrilled to have run my first marathon but devastated that I had nothing to show for it. My kids made me tinfoil medals and when they hung them around my neck, I started to cry. I think I was still crying when the doorbell rang and there stood Bjorklund. “You’re the one who deserves this,” he said, and handed me a marathon shirt.

The Twin Cities Marathon replaced the City of Lakes Marathon in 1982 and instead of circling two lakes four times, it now winds around those lakes and continues on the scenic parkways and river roads of Minneapolis and Saint Paul. Thousands of supportive volunteers and hundreds of thousands of spectators with boom boxes blaring the theme from Rocky line the route to cheer on the more than eight thousand runners. It all ends up in front of the Capitol with great fanfare, copious amounts of food, medals for finishers, and, of course, the coveted T-shirt.

Marathons have come a long way since 1981, but they are still 26.2 miles. It has been twenty-five years since I ran that first marathon, twenty-five years since Bjorklund, a young man who’d won marathons, been an Olympian, and still holds the State high school boys’ cross country 1600-meter record came to my house and handed me a shirt.

My own son, the tinfoil medal maker, and his sister are adults now, running their own marathons. In fact my son just qualified for Boston and last week called and said, “How about lacing up your running shoes again Mom, for me. Because you’re a sixty-year-old woman, if you run a 4:30 marathon you’ll qualify for Boston too! What do you say we go together?” Who can resist an offer like that? Time to get out that threadbare T-shirt and hit the road again!
