Charge of the Star Goddess

Traditional, based partly on the “Charge of the Goddess”
by Charles Leland, Gerald Gardner, and Doreen Valiente.

Here ye the words of the Star Goddess; she in the dust of whose feet are the hosts of heaven, and whose body encircles the universe.

I who am the beauty of the green earth, the white moon among the stars, and the mystery of the waters call unto thy soul; arise and come unto me.

I am the soul of nature who gives life to the universe. From me all things proceed, and unto me all things must return. Before my face, beloved of gods and of me, let thine innermost divine self be enfolded in the rapture of the infinite.

Let my worship be within the heart that rejoices, for behold! All acts of love and pleasure are my rituals. Therefore, let there be beauty and strength, power and compassion, honor and humility, mirth and reverence within you.

To thou who thinkest to seek me, know that thy seeking and yearning shall avail thee not unless thou knowest the mystery. If that which thou seekest thou findest not within three, thou wilt never find it without.

For behold! I have been with thee from the beginning; and I am that which is attained at the end of desire.

Charge of the Dark God

Listen to the words of the Dark God, Who was of old called Dis, Hades, Osiris, Hunter, and Lord of Shadows.

I am the shadow that is cast by the sun in the brightest of days. I am the reminder of sudden mortality in the midst of joyous life. I am the black velvet night where dances the stars and the planets, time everlasting, unperturbed dancer of fiery endings and new beginnings. I am the Horned Hunter, bow drawn in my hand, gathering the living with my arrows and leading the Wild Hunt. By ny hand are ye lead from this life, that life may continue, for behold! My mystery lies in the movement of life energy from life unto life, for the reminder that all life feeds on life and that only through death is life found anew.

I am the strength that protects, comforts, gives solace and renewal. I am the one who stands by the Crone of Transformation, then enters her Tomb for birth through her womb. Follow my lead and find thy immortality. Together we shall laugh at the threshold of death passage as awareness awakens, and I shall embrace thee in thy last moments of life.

Remember me on dark moonless nights; look for my Rade in rolling storm clouds and the clash of bright lightning. I carry thee to the one who transforms. Dark Mother of all, releaser of strife. Sing to us thy songs in the tongues of ecstasy, for we understand the music of the soul. Blow me a kiss from the palm of thy hand when the moon is dark, and I shall smile upon three, but no kiss shall I return, for my kiss is the final one for all mortal flesh, nepenthe  to drink at the end of thy days.

Song of the Goddess

I am the Great Mother, adored by all creation which I have brought forth from my fertile womb. I am the Primal Mother, life-bringing force of the Divine Female, boundless and eternal.

My faces are many, for I am Transformation and I bring change to all. I am the Goddess of the Moon, Lady of all Magick, passing through phases of Maiden, Mother, and Crone. I am the Maiden whose name is carried upon the tides and the winds. I wear the Moon upon my brow as Crescent, Full, and Horned the stars rest beneath my feet, and the Serpent of Regeneration gazes up as me in adoration. I am Mysteries yet I reveal these to any who seek such of me. I open the New Path for the spiritual questor, comfort the weary traveler upon the old, and receive into my arms and soul in passage.

I am the Blessed Mother, the Bountiful Lady of the Harvest. I am clothed in the cool depths of the waters and draped in the gold of fields laden with grain. My tabard is the myriad forms of life in woodland, field, valley, river, sky and sea. My hair cascades across my shoulders as soft shadows stirring in the forests. By me are all seasons of the earth ruled that all things come to fruition through me, for lo, I am the Life-Giving Mother, fertile and joyous in my abundance.

I am the Crone, Grandmother, and Dead Mother, wise and tender. Through me pass all in the spiral dance of life, death and rebirth. I am the Wheel, the shadowed Moon, giving release and renewal to weary souls. The God ushers the Spirits unto me, for I am the Tomb through whom all must pass to be born of my Womb.

I am the Eternal Maiden, Mother of All, and Crone of Transformation. I stir the cauldron of Wisdom, Abundance, and Renewal, and I pour forth my Limitless Love upon all my peoples of the Earth.

Circle Casting In Spells and Rituals

Long before circles were adopted by ceremonial magicians, they have appeased in folk tradition as people for thousands of years have danced in circles around a festival fire. They offer power as well as protection.

In essence you can cast a circle anywhere for any kind of spell or ritual (a visualized one using your index finger takes seconds). If someone is being spiteful at work, you can swirl round in a circle in your chair casting a circle close to your aura (about an  extended arm span all round) so that nasty words bounce off or are diverted back to the speaker.

Any circle you create should enclose yourself; your altar and tools, if you are using them and anyone working with you to create an enclosed protected place of concentrated power. Even if you are carrying out a whole spell with words or in your mind you can cast a visualized circle of light.

Empowering the Square

  • Use smudge and proceed clockwise round the square from the top north-west corner (as you face north) until you end at the same place. If possible empower at sunset, and as close to the three days after the full moon as you can.

  • Make a swirl at each corner with the smudge and ask for blessings and protection from the benign lesser earth spirits who will, if you are fortunate, take up position there (especially if you have taller rocks on which for them to make a home).

  • Greet each of the loftier mid-point guardians, however you picture them, by raising your smudge to the sky and then downwards to the earth. Greet each of the guardians on the first occasion with a small rounded black stone offering (you can use jet or tourmaline if you want to use a crystal but not the fiery obsidian).

  • Unlike archangels, a land wight may not reveal his specific name so greet him as “sacred or noble land wight of the northern land” and so on round the four directions.

  • You can if you wish refer to the northern directions guardian as Tiwaz the Viking spirit warrior who represents the Pole Star, the east as Odin the Viking father god, the south as Thor the mighty thunder and blacksmith god and the west as Ingvi or Ingwaz, the ancient fertility go who, according to the old sagas or legends, went anticlockwise,  against the sun, that is westwards.

  • You can empower a temporary or large visualized square by standing in the  center and pointing your smudge in the same order as you walked: north-west corner, north center, north-east corner, et., and repeating the words as you turn the smudge clockwise and anticlockwise.

  • If you are making a protective square of light around yourself in a dangerous place, picture staves of light rising vertically at all eight points.

  • Magick squares don’t need to be uncast as their energies will flow back and forth from the soil.

  • Re-empower a permanent magick square monthly as sunset, on any day during the three days after the full moon.

Consecrating Tools: Another Method

Consecrating Tools: Another Method
You may wish to concentrate you tools, although it is not necessary, as the Kitchen Witch knows.Supplies in addition to circle casting supplies:
Any tool you wish to consecrate
White candle for consecration flame

Cast your circle:
To consecrate the tools, the elementals may be used.

Pick up the wand, saying:
“I have chosen this wand to assist me in my work.”

Visualize the wand being cleared of any negativity, especially if it has had a previous owner. Continue till the wand feels clear to you. Now visualize positive energy flowing from you, down you arm and into the wand. Visualize a strong white light flowing through your body to the tool. Feel it absorb the positive energies. Touch it to the pentacle, saying:
” In the names of the Goddess and God (use any names you wish), I bless and make sacred this wand, tool of my craft. I charge this wand by the element of Earth.”

Point the wand towards the North, saying:
“May the powers of the Earth cleanse and fill the wand I have chosen.”

Pass the wand through the smoke of the incense, saying:
“In the names of the Goddess and God (use any names you wish), I bless and make sacred this wand, tool of my craft. I charge this wand by the element Air.”

Point the wand to the East, saying:
“May the powers of the Air cleanse and fill the wand I have chosen.”

Pass the wand through the candle flame, saying:
“In the names of the Goddess and God (using any names), I bless and make sacred this wand, tool of my craft. I charge this wand by the element Fire.”

Point the wand to the South, saying:
“May the powers of Fire cleanse and fill the wand I have chosen.”

Sprinkle the wand with water, saying:
“In the names of the Goddess and God (using any names), I bless and make sacred this wand, tool of my craft. I charge this wand by the element Water.”

Point the wand to the West, saying:
“May the powers of water cleanse and fill the wand I have chosen.”

“This tool is now ready, being consecrated and charged to assist me in my work. So mote it be.”

Perform other workings if you wish, then close the circle.

To consecrate, cleanse and charge other tools, substitute the word “wand” with the name of the chosen tool.

Casting A Magick Square

The square is a very powerful symbol of protection. Even if you work within a circle you can still designate an outer square as an additional protective enclosure. If you can’t have a permanent altar outdoors, your magick square can designate the smaller space where you regularly set up your magickal tools.

It is also very protective of the home, even more so than a circle, and is an easier shape to cast in many gardens than the circle. You can draw a square around anything outdoors with small stone markers if the site is very quiet or if you have to leave the item, building or whatever you are trying to protect alone or unoccupied for a while.

It is effective also for keeping children or animals temporarily off lawns or flower beds you are trying to grow.

You can visualize a protective square of any size, from a small one around a precious artifact to one around a sacred site where you have organized a seasonal ritual.

They are very protective around natural circles such as groves where you would not draw a circle.

Indeed, you can create a temporary square if you are working in a public spot and don’t want your magick area invaded by dogs and curious individuals. In modern times where working in isolated places may be less safe, you can visualize one around the beach or forest while you are working or around yourself (as well as your protective circle) on a deserted station platform or taxi rank.

  • Stand in the center of your designated square, which may also be the center of your projected magick circle.
  • Hold out your arm as far as you can with your palm upright and outwards and say:

“Enough and no more, I draw my square of protection. Preserve this space as sacred.”

  • Picture a line of light forming the top horizontal (west to east). Keep turning, making next the vertical north-south line along the right east side as you face north. Speak and visualize till you have all four lines in place and can see a shimmering outline to your square of light.
  • You can also walk your square from the furthest away top left-hand corner, moving clockwise and ending at the nearest, bottom left corner. Use your wand in front of you and put a small dark stone at each corner and one halfway along each line. You can align with a compass or estimate north in the middle of the top line furthest from you as you face north.
  • You can assign your midpoint, the main directions, to archangels or to the lofty Landvaetir, the tall brown guardians who in Iceland, Finland, Sweden, Norway; Germany and eastern parts of the UK are recognized as protecting land and all who live on it. You can further protect the corners with the traditional taller dark stones if you are setting up a permanent magickal square. Bless your square as you would a circle the first time you create it.

The Magick Square

Squares have a strong folk magick tradition; a magickal square would be marked in a field with hoes, rakes or other agricultural implements. In times of persecution squares could be consecrated as a magickal space, but were much easier to disguise as magickal working than circles. Some were undoubtedly used to mark as sacred land where a former sacred Roman temple stood, just as a circle of stones or tree stumps beneath a church or cathedral might mark a former sacred Druidic grove.

In Scandinavia, the magickal square formed the outline for a grid of nine squares, three by three. These were made by the seior, the witch seers of the Norse world who channelled wisdom from the spirit world, specifically from Helheim where the Crone Goddess Hel cared for the deceased. The seior sat on raised thrones  within the grids and travelled astrally to Helheim to talk to the ancestors and receive advice for the living. Only later did the Goddess Hel become demonized and in recent years there has been a revival of seior craft.

The water witches of the West Midlands also used a magickal square, or mill as they called it, for magick. They were people who came from the Netherlands to live and work on the Midland canals in the 1800s. They practiced an ancient form of folk magick that did not die out till the mid-1900s and there are still a few practitioners remaining. Rituals were practiced by these canal people on a square of land adjacent to the canal bank with a triple magickal square. Each square was joined by four lines and constructed from wood and was known as the Mil. Only women entered the sacred area under the leadership of a senior female water witch, through the chief male, known as the master, standing at the edge, summoned a spirit entity to assist in the ritual.

In modern Iceland, the Landvaetir or Land guardians often have particularly sacred square fields that cannot be built on, where offerings are left in order to bring protection to the homes and farms around.

Magickal Squares and Circles In Magick

Magickal squares and circles date back to prehistory. Megalithic stone circles were created from around 3,500 BCE and set out according to precise geometric and astronomical measurements. They were used for rituals of all kinds by the Neolithic tribes especially on the seasonal change points to invoke the ancestors for fertility of crops, animals and people and continued to provide the setting for magickal gatherings through the millennia.

In Sweden and Norway the sacred square grid has formed a magickal device for more than three thousand years. It was used originally on the great seasonal fire festivals, at midwinter, midsummer and harvest. Nine turf squares were etched in the earth and eight removed, leaving the middle one to form the center of the ritual fire.

The magick circle and square also have their place in modern magick. Both shapes occur naturally in forest clearings and can be drawn in sand, earth or snow, or formed out of twigs, branches, shells, flowers, or even crystals.

Both act as markers for the main directions, the circle as though on a clock face and the square halfway along each side, both giving equal segment for the elements.

What Is The Difference Between A Spell and A Ritual?

In practice the terms “spell” and “ritual” are used interchangeably in magick and through many Traditions as an umbrella terms for magickal workings.

A spell tends to be a less formal kind of magick, usually cast for a specific purpose or need, for example to protect a named traveller (maybe yourself or a family member) on a particular journey or trip for a specified length of time. The energies are raised, and then released so they will bounce back to activate the purpose of the spell which has been represented by a symbol of that journey. This physical focus of the spell might in magick be a feather of some chopped fennel herbs to symbolize travel.

In contrast a ritual is usually based on a more general or long-lasting focus. A ritual may be carried out at specified times, for example, the first day of spring or to celebrate the birth of a baby. A ritual follows a more structured format.

What is more, whereas a spell builds up to a climax and release of energy, the ritual may release energy more evenly throughout the weeks and months ahead.

Winter Prosperity Spell

Winter Prosperity Spell

Gather your supplies:

A piece of ribbon from Yule in your favorite color at least 12 inches long.
A green candle
A bit of Myrrh oil

Ritual:
Rub a few drops of Myrrh oil into the candle and light it.

Tie nine knots in the ribbon while reciting this rhyme:

“By the count of one, this spell’s begun,
By the count of two, prosperity’s due,
By the count of three, I’ll have no more need,
By the count of four, abundance galor,
By the count of five, this spell’s alive,
By the count of six,
prosperity’s fixed,
By the count of seven, blessings given,
By the count of eight, I seal my fate,
By the count of nine, praise the Goddess divine!”

Pass the tied ribbon through the smoke from the candle three times. Put the ribbon in a safe place for the next year looking and meditating on it if you need extra strength throughout the year. As the next year commences, burn the old ribbon and empower a new one!

Winter Ritual Bath

Winter Ritual Bath

During the Winter Solstice/Christmas Season we often place too much emphasis on celebrating and sharing this joyous holiday. It is often helpful amongst all the stress to atune to a quiet, internal spirituality. To begin to do so, prepare a ritual bath with oils of rosemary, pine and orange. Add a touch of patchouli for grounding. Light gold and green candles and immerse yourself in the watery solitude to refresh your weary holiday spirit. Meditate on the Winter Goddess and her lesson of stillness. Find the cool and clean space she offers, free of clutter and activity. It is the season for centering and grounding and for defining who we really are. After the bath, take your journal and write down your goals by candlelight. Contemplate the coming re-birth and identify which direction you wish to channel your energies and focus your intentions.

Third Eye Ritual

Begin by brewing a strong magickal tea made from yarrow or mugwort (herbs that stimulate the psychic senses) and then light thirteen purple coloured votive candles to help attract psychic influences. Drink the tea and then gaze fixedly into a magick mirror, black bowl full of water, crystal ball, or crystal pyramid as you chant thrice the following incantation:

“I invoke thee, oh Asarial,

Archangel of Neptune

And ruler of clairvoyant powers.

I ask thee now to open my third eye

And show me the hidden light.

Let me see the future.

Let me see the past.

Let me perceive the divine

Kingdoms of the unknown.

Let me understand the wisdom

Of the mighty universe.

So mote it be!”

After chanting, relax, breathe slowly and concentrate on opening your Third Eye. Do not permit any negative thought to contaminate your mind. The Third Eye, an invisible chakra located in the middle of the forehead above the space between the eyebrows, is the human body?s highest source of power, supernormal sight and clairvoyant vision.

Empowerment Ritual

This ritual will increase your magical powers and energy. I altered this ritual almost entirely, choosing to use personal symbols as opposed to runes. (That is, symbols personal to the person practicing the ritual.) I consider this one of the most important rituals to perform, as it will truly increase your powers tenfold.

“The purpose of this ritual is to tap into your own personal lifeforce and amplify it into a personal statement of self confidence and strength. Afterwards, when you feel yourself dragging in one area or another, concentrate on the appropriate symbol in the appropriate color for a bit, and you will find yourself tapping back into the energies you established in the ritual.”

You will need:

A set of crayons including red, orange, yellow, green, sky blue, dark blue, violet, black, grey, white, silver, and gold.

A medium to work on–cloth or paper on which all the colors will show up.

A red candle

Fiery scented incense, such as sage or cedar.

First, establish your working circle, after you’ve gathered all your materials together. Make sure you have a comfortable place to sit and draw. You’ll be here a while.

Face the east and say:

“Spirits of the East, powers of Air, I ask that you be present at this spell-working. Help me find inspiration and visualize the symbols clearly that I may partake of their essence.”

Face the south and say:

“Spirits of the South, powers of Fire, I ask that you be present at this spell-working. Help me find the spirit within to empower the symbols and tune into their color energy.”

Face the west and say:

“Spirits of the West, powers of Water, I ask that you be present at this spell-working. Help me to seek the mystery within, that the symbolsI draw here may work upon my emotions for my Highest Good.”

Face the north and say:

“Spirits of the North, powers of Earth, I ask that you be present at this spell-working. Help me to manifest the symbols in the third-dimensional world so that their energies may become a part of my physical existence.”

Face the sky and say:

“Father Sky, I ask that you watch over me in this spell-working. Lend me your wisdom so that I may bring safely link my inner vision with the outer Self.”

Place your hands on the earth and say:

“Mother Earth, I ask that you watch over me in this spell-working. Let me ground myself deeply in you and draw on your strength and energy to sustain me in my work.”

Face your altar in the center of the circle and say:

“Sacred center, Spirit of all that is, of whom we are all only aspects, unite this sphere into a protected space for the spell-working I plan to do here.”

Using the red crayon, visualize the color as life essence. Draw a human body, using a star-like shape.

Draw the first symbol that comes to your mind when you think of strength and power. (Draw it in red below the human body shape.)

Now take the orange crayon. This color represents vitality, potency, courage- draw the first symbol of these qualities that comes to mind slightly above and to the left of the last symbol.

With the yellow crayon in hand, concentrate on intellect, and your request for knowledge. Draw a symbol of this directly to the left of the human body shape.

Using the green crayon, visualize expansion, abundance, prosperity, growth, love. When you have felt its energy, draw a symbol of above and to the left of the human body.

Take up the sky blue crayon, and feel it’s energy of expression, communication, spiritual gain, joy, and self-achievement. Draw a symbol of those directly above the central symbol (body).

Using a dark blue crayon, draw a symbol to the lower-right of the last symbol. This one should represent synthesis and inner wisdom. It should align with the green shape.

In violet, which represents spirituality and guidance, draw a symbol of those traits directly to the right of the red central sign.

White is used to link the life-force. Draw a symbol that represents a cycle or strong bond below and to the right of the central symbol.

This main pattern is complete. It should resemble a circle of colors and symbols surrounding the body.

Now, trace from the central body, directly to the left. Here, you should come upon the yellow symbol. To the left of that symbol, you will draw another sign, in silver. Hold the silver crayon and feel it’s energy, imagine the journey you are embarking on, and draw a symbol of it.

Take the gray crayon and visualize flexibility, endurance, persistence and resolve needed to accomplish the changes you desire. When you feel it’s energy, draw a symbol of those strengths at the very top/center. (above the human body, and above the light blue sign.)

The gold crayon represents activity. Draw your symbol of activation to the far-right (lined up horizontally with the silver symbol).

Using black, feel and see the changes you want occuring, the power of this ritual going to work. Draw a symbol of this directly beneath the red symbol under the body. (The bottom of the page, centered.)

Give blessings to all invoked gods, goddesses, and spirits, using a chant to each quarter like this:

“Spirits of the east, powers of air, thank you for your presence and aid in this work. Depart in peace, my thanks and blessings.”

Open the circle, release the energy, and say:

“To all spirits visible and invisible that have been present in this ritual, depart in peace, my thanks and blessings.”

Hang the resulting picture up somewhere where you can see it often. When you need any of the specific traits energized in each symbol, simply think of that particular color and symbol as depicted in your masterpiece!

Ritual of Self-Blessing

This ritual of self-blessing has been around for many years –
originally published by the Pagan Way.  This version is taken from
Amber Wolfe’s “In the Shadow of the Shaman” because it is not as
Goddess oriented.

This version can be used by anyone, regardless of religious principle, because
it is easily adapted with the name of your own diety.  The important thing is
that you are calling on your highest spiritual force to witness your
life/problems, and in calling attention to yourself, you are begining to take
charge and deal with the problems.  There is a very real, very deep power in
this ritual, no matter how simply or elaborately it is performed, and it should
never be performed in fun or for show.  Use it whenever the need is great – any
moon phase is permissible, although it was originally intended to be used at the
waxing moon.  It will embue the celebrant with a sense of calm connectedness and
peace.

What follows is the text as Amber Wolfe has written it.  Balance and blessings.

Ritual of Self-Blessing

You will need

a small votive candle and holder (white is always good, but use
color if you feel called to do that)
an incense stick, cone, or herbs (such as sage or thyme) to burn
   a small container of water
   a small container of salt

I find that a sugar and creamer set works very well for this. These
can be purchased quite reasonably and set aside just for this use.

This is a ritual which connects you to the deepest levels of healing.
It also connects you to the four elements and their energies. In this
way it is most helpful for dealing with the shamanic elemental
energies of Nature.

The candle represents the element of Fire
The incense or herbs represent Air
The container of water is Water
The container of salt is Earth.

Beyond that, these elements reflect your own needs.

The element of Fire reflects your relationships, protection, ideas and
achievements.

The element of Air reflects your creativity, spirituality, inspiration
and philosophies.

The element of Water reflects your emotions, intuition, dream states,
psychic gifts, and healing balance.

The element of Earth reflects your practicality, knowledge, sacred
wisdom, and growth.

Find a quiet time and place where you will not be disturbed. You may
make this as ceremonial or as informal as you choose.

Light the incense and take a few moments to consider the element of
Air.  Consider the gifts that Air reflects in you.

Light the candle and take a few moments to consider the element of
Fire. Consider the gifts that Fire reflects in you.

Take a few moments to consider the element of water and how it
reflects in you.

Take a few moments to consider the element of Earth and how it
reflects in you.

Very gently, pour the water into the container of salt. If you are
using herbs as an incense, you may sprinkle a few in the water and
salt mixture.

Stir the salt and water with your fingers. Consider the blending of
elements that creates life itself. Consider the balance of elements
and their attributes in your life. Take a few moments to do this.

Facing the candle, dip your fingers in the water mixture and touch
your forehead (3rd eye area).

Say: “Bless me Mother, for I am your child.” (The original was
written for the Goddess as Mother.  Another diety name can be
substituted here, or simply say “Spirit.”)

Now dip your fingers in the water mixture and touch the area around
your eyes carefully.

Say: “Bless my eyes that I may see you.”

Dip again and touch your nose.

Say: “Bless my nose that I may breathe your essence.”

Dip again and touch your ears.

Say: “Bless my ears that I may hear your wisdom.”

Dip again and touch your mouth.

Say: “Bless my mouth that I may speak your name.”

Dip again and touch your heart.

Say: “Bless my heart that I may feel your love.”

Dip again and touch your lower abdomen.

Say: “Bless my cauldron center that I may create harmony.”

Dip again and touch your feet.

Say: “Bless my feet that I may walk in balance.”

Dip again and rub your hands together.

Say: “Bless my hands that I may share your healing in my work.”

Take all the time you need to concentrate on the elements before you.
Focus your attention on the candle and visualize healing light flowing
into you.  Feel strength emerging from deep inside yourself. Breathe
deeply and capture that moment. Connect with the source of strength
and healing.

When you feel you are finished, blow out the candle.  I often save
these candles just for this ritual of self-blessing.  If I am
extremely pressed for time, I simply light the candle and take a few
moments to connect with the energy of the ritual.

It is good to leave the incense burning if you can. Air is a
communicating element, and smoke is transformation.  The incense
carries the messages of healing and strength to Spirit. If you have
used herbs, it is good to return the ashes to Nature. In this way, you
are grounding the energy, bringing the message and the transformation
to earth. Make sure the ashes are cold; then place them at the roots
of a tree or bush if possible.  If not, place them in soil or sand.

The salt and water mixture can be used very effectively in several
ways. You may wash your gemstones or other stones in this.  Crystals
love this, since their energy is so personally connected to yours.

You may save the mixture and dab a little on your third-eye area every
day for a few days, as a reminder. You may pour the mixture into your
bath for a gentle energizer. When the bathwater drains, visualize a
connection between yourself and the energies of Mother Ocean.  You may
return the mixture to earth by pouring it on soil or sand. Remember,
plants don’t thrive in salt; so keep the mixture clear of plants. You
may sprinkle the mixture throughout your house to seal in positive
energies and protection.

Ground and Center

Ground and Center before all magickal work to avoid depleting personal energy levels. Begin by being still, gathering within and releasing through the fee (and palms if need be) into the ground all static, chaotic internal energies. Now feel the inner calmness, centered around the heart, and draw up through the feet strong Earth  energy (through the floor if indoor), feeling the power and energy rising up and intertwining with your own energies up through the legs, body, arms, neck, and head, out the top, circled around and up again until all portions of the body are in balance. Once this power is felt and is in balance, then Circle Casting, Ritual, Divination, and Spell Work may begin.

Grounding after all magickal work to avoid overload of personal energy levels; touch the Earth/floor with palms of the hands after magickal work and feel the excess energy drain out, leaving a balance of personal energy, augmented only by that amount of Earth necessary for healthy functioning of the body. Too much retained energy will result in headache, depression, or irritability. Too Little will result in fatigue, depression or faintness. You must find the inner balance and adjust according to how you feel.
