Crafting Your Own Sacred Schedule – Part 6

Local Festivities

Where we live has a huge impact on how we turn the Wheel. The landscape, the seasons, and local culture all affect how we experience the world around us. The community in which you live probably all ready has festivals that honor certain changes, such as a harvest festival, an annual block party, a yearly parade to commemorate an event in the town’s history, or a natural phenomenon that happens like clockwork (monsoons, fog season, second summer, etc.) These modern-day observances can have just as much power as the commonly accepted sabbats — and even more personal meaning for you because the event directly reflects the spirit of where you live. Remember everything has an origin!

Crafting Your Own Sacred Schedule – Part 4

Saint and Deity Days

While certain sabbats may have an associations with specific deities, what if those gods aren’t deities you feel connected to? Maybe the one or ones you choose to work with historically have a special date used to honor them. If you can’t find a specific date or seasons in the records, you might use the day of dedication instead, if you have performed such a rite. Or you could use divination or trance work to determine which day would be pleasing to them.

There’s also a fair amount of folks who have a fondness for saints — whether because they are coming from a Catholic background or they made a connection to that saint via their current path. In some religions, the deities of old became saints because of their powers that be couldn’t squash the belief in them, so they were “legitimatized” instead. In other instances, they can be viewed as the Mighty Dead, or enlightened humans who act as intermediaries to the divine.

Little Pagan Acorns – Website for Pagan Children

[Not just for Pagan children that are homeschooled but for any Pagan child)

WHY PAGAN?

The world of homeschooling is dominated by Christians, and the majority of online resources are Bible-based. For someone who is Pagan, it gets pretty frustrating to find great printables that aren’t filled with Bible scriptures or Christian phrasing. So I wanted to create a resource for all of us who are parents and/or homeschoolers who are following other spiritual paths.

My purpose is to create pages that can be mixed in with other resources to add some Pagan terminology, ideals and history so that people can teach their children something that is uniquely Pagan.

I also intend to have selections of nature-based and generically “spiritual” material that could be used by folks who aren’t really Pagan but want an option away from the Christian materials as well.

I know that the term “Pagan” covers a huge range of faiths and beliefs, and I hope that I can properly respect them all here. My own path is more Wiccan and you’ll tend to see more material along that slant (lots of altars, Sabbats and pentacles!). I’d welcome any comments or suggestions from other beliefs so that I can accurately cover them. I apologize in advance if I have included anything that is inaccurate about other religions. Feel free to let me know.

So, welcome to Little Pagan Acorns and I hope that there is something here to help with your Pagan homeschooling and parenting!

Public Service Announcement About Your Webcam

Why Webcam Security Matters

By Click&Clean – Updated Friday, May 8, 2020. Nowadays, webcams are standard equipment on most devices, including desktop and laptop PCs, tablets, and smartphones. A webcam allows you to send a picture in real time from one device to another through an Internet connection.

However, this does not mean that we know what we are doing with them, and many people simply forget that they are vulnerable to being hacked. Recent Wizcase research showed that more than 15,000 private webcams are accessible to the general public.

Webcam hacking attacks are one of the most popular activities of malicious users and have been actively exploited by them for many years; for example, to obtain visual information about the details of your home.

In most cases, webcams have indicator lights that show when the webcam is in use. However, hackers and cybercriminals create malware that can turn off the activity indicator. If your webcam has been hacked, then even though the notification light is off, the webcam can capture video, and someone can spy on you.

Security Tips to Protect Yourself Against Webcam Hackers

1. Cover Up Your Webcam

The simplest solutions are the most effective. To be absolutely sure that no one is spying on you through your webcam and your webcam is protected from potential attacks, use some electrical tape or a webcam cover to physically cover up your webcam.

2. Unplug or Disable Your Webcam

The next best step to protect your webcam is to unplug or disable it. If you are using an external webcam connected via USB, just unplug it when not in use. If your laptop or desktop has a built-in webcam, disable it completely via Device Manager.

3. Scan Your Device for Webcam-Focused Malware

It is crucial to regularly run anti-malware scans to protect your webcam. But traditional antivirus software may not catch webcam-focused malware or spyware. Therefore, you should consider downloading a second opinion anti-malware scanner, such as Malwarebytes.

4. Don’t Open Email Attachments From Unknown Sources or Click on Suspicious Links

Often, scammers use phishing emails to trick users into opening harmful links or downloading malicious files from email attachments. If you receive an email from someone you don’t know, don’t open it, and don’t click on attachments or any suspicious links.

In addition, many webcam hackers use shortened links on social media sites that will redirect you to a malicious website or automatically start downloading malware. Therefore, never open any unknown files, shortened URLs, or any links, unless you’re sure that it’s from someone you trust and know.

5. Keep Your Webcam Software Up-to-Date

To prevent your laptop or desktop computer from catching malware, it’s important to keep your operating system, web browser, and any other type of software up-to-date. If you use outdated vulnerable firmware, this could compromise your privacy, and cybercriminals can easily exploit these vulnerabilities and flaws.

Crafting Your Own Sacred Schedule – Part 2

Anniversaries, Birthdays, and Other Important Life Moments

The first category may seem pretty obvious, but we often tend to not look at these dates in a spiritual context. We may even view them as obligations versus observances over time. Birthdays aren’t just about getting older; they are opportunities to reflect on the events that took place in the past year and set goals for the next year. A birthday can serve as a reminder for us to be kinder to ourselves.

Marking the beginnings of a relationship (wedding, union, handfasting, etc.) is a great time to remember what brought you together and what you have accomplished along the way. Similarly, anniversaries of endings can be moments to recall we have come and how we have changed. For example, nearly a decade after the fact, I still remember the date when I finally decided to end an abusive relationship. It marks not only the end but also a new beginning, the new me. Celebrate your moments of strength in dark times as well as your triumphs in the best of times.

What other important moments mark significant changes in your life? A college graduation date, the day you arrived in a new place, an initiation or elevation into a tradition, the day you met you best friend, or the day you reconciled with someone — all are possible things you might choose to acknowledge on a yearly basis.

Weekly Horoscope Sunday, May 10 to Saturday, May 16, 2020

All Signs

“These are the shadows of things that have been.” Charles Dickens wrote these words in 1843. By the end of this week, four planets will be retrograde – Venus, Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto. (In reality, they always move forward in space; but in astrology, relative to Earth, they appear to be moving backwards.) Until Nov., there will be a sense of the past influencing our lives. Remember that everything that happens has both negative and positive aspects. One positive reality about these hard times is there are many more opportunities to practice kindness and generosity. And isolating at home has given new meaning to the idea of dressing for dinner.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

This week you continue your focus on money, earnings, possessions and your assets in general. This is because despite the fact that you’re an adventurous warrior, you are always concerned about your security, which is a good thing. When you get down to basics, the most important thing to know is where your bed is at night. Because lucky Jupiter is at the top of your chart now, you have divine protection! Therefore, do not worry. This particular blessing comes along only once every 12 years and for you, it’s for this whole year! Enjoy a chance to reconnect with siblings, relatives and neighbours because this will give you a warm feeling in your tummy.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

This continues to be a powerful time for you because the Sun is still in your sign, where it will stay until Wednesday, May 20. This is nothing to be dismissed. The Sun is in your sign for only four weeks each year, and this is always your best chance to re-energize yourself and feel rejuvenated. Meanwhile, two planets are in your Money House. It looks like you might decide to purchase something beautiful that you have been thinking about for a while. Some of you will also have a chance in the near future to explore travel that was delayed or postponed. Looking good!

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Until Wednesday, May 20, when the Sun enters your sign for the first time in a year, you will continue to be low profile and stay in the wings. You’re happy working alone or behind the scenes; but you’re no shrinking violet because your ruler Mercury (plus Venus) are both in your sign now, making you talkative and sociable – even charming. Meanwhile, Mars is moving to the top of your chart, arousing your ambition! This is a strong influence and it occurs only once every two years, and when it does, it lasts for six weeks. Therefore, act on your aroused ambition. Get something done that matters.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

You are warm, emotional, nurturing person. And lately, you have a stronger than usual desire to reach out and contact with friends or members of groups. Act on your instinct to talk to others whether in person, by phone, online, Facebook or zooming because you need this emotional reinforcement right now. Maybe you need to nurture? Maybe you need to comfort someone? You like to be needed. Some of you might be in contact with a secret love from your past. (You devil.) Enrich your involvement with others because as much as you need to be in contact with them – they will feel happy and gratified to be in contact with you.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

You have 10 more days to enjoy the Sun at the top of your chart. (This happens only once a year for four weeks.) It’s a blessing because it creates an illusion whereby others see you in flattering terms! They do not see your failings or flaws. Quite the opposite. They admire your talents! This means you don’t have to work to live up to anyone’s expectations because from their point of view, you have already succeeded. Obviously, this is the time to advance your agenda and make your pitch! Go after what you want because doors will open for you because you look like success waiting to happen. (Applause sign.)

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

You are a fact junkie. (Who knows more trivia than you?) In some ways, you have enjoyed the last few weeks because there’s been so much buzz about so many things – so many opinions – so many insane ideas – jaw-dropping events and the adventures of coping with a new way of being. This is all grist for your mill. You have 10 more days of having the thrill of discovering new ideas and meeting new contacts. The only downside is that with Mars moving opposite your sign for the next five weeks, you will be easily annoyed with partners and close friends. If you express your criticism – things will get worse. (You know this, it always does.) Consider this a personal challenge for cultivating patience, which is a virtue.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

Good news! While some of you are busy with essential jobs, and others have their hands full with kids and homeschooling; nevertheless, many of you are schlepping around home in your robe while in isolation. And even though you are such a social sign, you find it easy to lay around for three days doing nothing. The good news is that this week Mars will start to energize you and inspire you to work hard and get all kinds of things done. Oh yeah! You’ll be PowerPoint on steroids until June. Not only will you be busy, efficient and productive, you will strive to get better organized in every aspect of your life. (Gasp.) Marie Kondo ain’t got nothing on you!

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

You must deal with your low-energy factor for about 10 more days, and then it will disappear and you will rise like a phoenix from the ashes. Oh yes. In fact, your creative urges are starting to percolate on the back burner, which means that until about mid-June, you’ll want to express your creative talents! Set up that easel. Pick up that guitar. Grab those knitting needles or do whatever it is you do to feel your creative juices flowing! In this same window of time, you will enjoy fun activities with kids. You will also want to explore sports in any way possible. You will also find it rewarding to be in contact with relatives, siblings and neighbours. Yea, get the scoop.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

For the next 10 days, your energy to work hard and get better organized will continue. It’s amazing what you’ve accomplished! Do be aware that this week, as Mars changes signs, it ushers in a new kind of increased activity and chaos on the home front. Visiting relatives or residential moves or repairs or renovations will suddenly make demands on your time and your patience. This unexpected activity might also create tension with family members. Fortunately, with Venus opposite your sign now, you will handle this with aplomb. You’ll be so cool, you’ll even where your shades in the shower.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

This lighter, fun-loving, more playful time continues for the next 10 days, which is great for you. This same influence makes it easier for you to relate to kids and romantic partners. Meanwhile, Mercury and Venus promote warm relations with coworkers and colleagues, so in this respect, you are blessed as well. Nevertheless, a subtle shift begins this week. Mars moves into the part of your chart that influences your everyday life and especially your communications. It will encourage conflicts because you will be opinionated! It makes you want to “sell” your ideas to everyone. Lighten up. (This influence lasts until mid-June.) Oy! But you will be productive doing mental work.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Home, family and your private life continue to be your focus for the next 10 days. This influence, which has been at play for almost a month, has helped many of you who are working at home. It’s been easier for you to accept the “confinement.” (Which is a lot considering how freedom loving you are.) Starting this week, a new influence will creep into your life that makes you want to work harder than ever to earn money. And for many, this same influence will make you want to spend money, because you feel that what you own represents your personal worth. Don’t go crazy with this impulse and do keep your receipts and paperwork. Meanwhile, both Mercury and Venus sweeten your life in a playful way, which is a blessing.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

It’s been frustrating in some ways for you if you have been confined at home because in the last month, you’ve been more restless than usual. You want to get out and about. You want to interact with others and ideally, you want to travel or take short trips – all of which might be impossible. Beginning this week, Mars will be in your sign until June, which is a mixed blessing. The upside is that it boosts your energy in an amazing way. It will make you work hard to further your own interests and assert yourself with others. You will definitely be a fighter for your own rights and even the rights of others. You’ll have more physical energy and zest for life! But — you could be too pushy and come on too strong. Keep this in mind. Be nice to the little people.

May 6 Moon Goddess’ Current Phase

Today the Moon will be in a Waxing Gibbous phase. This phase is when the moon is more than 50% illuminated but not yet a Full Moon. The phase lasts round 7 days with the moon becoming more illuminated each day until the Full Moon. During a Waxing Gibbous the moon will rise in the east in mid-afternoon and will be high in the eastern sky at sunset. The moon is then visible though most of the night sky setting a few hour before sunrise. The word Gibbous first appeared in the 14th century and has its roots in the Latin word “gibbosus” meaning humpbacked.

(May) Full Moon in Scorpio

The Full Moon in Scorpio resonates with the mysteries of sex, birth, death, and rebirth. On this Full Moon we shine light into hidden recesses of our psyche. It is a time to shed old skins and let go from whatever is keeping us from growing. Under Scorpio Full Moon, we have the opportunity for profound personal transformation. This is also a good time to reflect on how we can reclaim our sense of personal power. This Full Moon is an especially potent time to work with the goddess associated with the scared dark. It is also a time for working all kinds of banishing, releasing, and cord cutting rituals. Scorpio helps us surrender to the process of transformation. Scorpio has a fierce compassion that tempers us, deepen us and turns us into beings of wisdom.

Inanna, walk beside me in my time of descent, and help me see that they are the pathways to wholeness, healing, and hard-won wisdom.

Insomnia

How many people out there have suffered from this wonderful word. What are the causes, they are as varied as the cures. is it stress, anxiety, depression or a child or parent that is sick and needing tender loving care.

What are the cures that you know of, certain teas, no caffeine after 6, melatonin, and then there is the serious stuff, prescription meds, Ambiant and others, ugh.

I have been suffering from this the last couple of months getting somewhere between 3-5 hours of sleep a night. taking multiple bathroom breaks, trying a little food, maybe watching a rerun for a bit to get my mind to quiet, I have become the queen of solitaire at 2 in the morning lol.

So what to do, what has helped get me through this is to think how lucky I am, I have a loving family worried about my health and looking up remedies for me. I have my health in every other way, I can do most everything I need to do in a days time, although my family worries about all the work i do lol, I try to use the time to lay quietly and think about what the goddess would like for me to do, what steps she wishes for me to take, am i following my heart and making the decisions that are right for me or am i making decisions for others that are leading to more stress and anxiety.

I am lucky in so many ways and although I do wish I had never heard the word insomnia I try to remember all my blessing and not the few trials and tribulations that I am facing along the way. I hope the insomnia will pass but at the same time try and understand that the new day can and will be a good day depending on my attitude when i do get the day started
