One of the More Popular Powders Found in Voodoo/Hoodoo

Dragons Keep

One of the More Popular Powders Found in Voodoo/Hoodoo

Hot Foot Power

There are times in our lives when we just have to rid ourselves of a person, the reasons vary from person to person. Hotfoot work is very powerful and serious work.

This is not the type of work you do because someone made you mad. Hotfoot if made right will make the target wonder, their spirit will never be able to find peace. This should always be a last resort. Am I saying it shouldn’t be used? No I’m not. If someone has pushed me so far until I decide to hot foot him or her then I don’t really care what effect it has on him or her. I want them out of my life. As I’ve said before we are each responsible for our actions. I don’t just hot foot someone who has made me mad or gotten on my nerves; this has always been a last resort for me. But if the need arises, I will use it in a heartbeat. The safest way to work with hot foot is either in a medicine bottle or a jar; this way it only affects the target and not everyone who gets in it.

This is my own personal hot foot powder. To make the powder you will need a large airtight jar. Then you need to find a fire ant bed. You have to be careful when collecting these ants. If they bite you it can make your run fever. The bites burn like fire and they get very hot. Once you get the ants in the jar they will run around and try to get out. When they settle down I shake the jar to make them start moving again. I will do this four or five times before I leave them alone. They are one of the key ingredients in the hot foot powder; and just like they want to get out of the jar so will the target want to get away. I usually collect the ants when the sun is going down; this is just my preference. I have collected them when I need to make the powder for a quick job, no matter what time of day it was.

When the ants stop trying to get out of the jar; I will add all the other ingredients to the jar. I don’t measure the ingredients; I have made this powder enough to know what it should look like when I’ve added enough of each ingredient. I probably add:

1. About two tablespoons of Sulfur to the jar
2. About a tablespoon of graveyard dirt
3. Dirt Daubers Nest (a little of this goes a long way)
4. I add enough Red Pepper to the dirt so you can see the Pepper in the dirt
5. Once this is done I shake the jar well
6. Last I add the Cornstarch
7. Shake the jar well

Now you should have a nice pink powder. Keep the lid on the jar tight to keep the dampness out. I keep the jar put up until I need to use the powder, then I only take out what I need.

Africa, you say… I thought Voodoo came from N’awlins?

DRAGONS BOOK OF DREAMS

Africa, you say… I thought Voodoo came from N’awlins?

The roots of Voodoo has spread as far as from West Africa to Louisiana. As mentioned, Voodoo practices and beliefs tend to differ in various geographical areas, but the three main types of Voodoo are:

African Voodoo

Haitian Voodoo

New Orleans, Louisiana

Voodoo It was slavery that brought Voodoo to the Americas and caused it to spread around the world. In 1804, Voodooist slaves were brought by Cuban plantation owners to Louisiana.

During its period of colonization between the 16th – 17th centuries, slaves were brought from Africa to the Hispaniola (Haiti). Forced by the colonists to baptize themselves in the Christian faith, the slaves struggled to practice their Voodoo faith. As a result, the slaves ended up reconciling the different religious beliefs so that they may practice a bit of their faith even if not openly. Whichever parts of the world Voodooists ended up in, whether they were ostracized or hunted down or coerced to conversion, they clung to their faith steadfastly while embracing change as necessary. This is why you look at the Voodoo religion today, you will see the influences of various major religions.

For instance, “Voodoo Saints” were made and called upon. What is Saint Peter to the Catholics is Papa Legba to Voodooists. In both religions, both are keepers of the gate. To Voodooists, Papa Legba is a loa(Iwa) or a spirit who watches over the doors of the spirit world.

Another example is how some Voodoo holidays correspond with Catholic holidays. On the days when Catholics remember the spirits of those who had passed on (All Saints Day and All Souls Day), Voodooists who had been forced to convert to Catholicism took these opportunities to honor loa known as the Ghede. These loa are family of spirits which personify their ancestors who now exist in the realm of the dead.
The Christian cross had also come to mean something to followers of the Voodoo faith. They use it to symbolize crossroads or life-changing decisions or events.

A Catholic might even recognize some similarities in the Voodoo hymns and the ones sang at his church.
Nevertheless, Haitian and Louisiana Voodoo still retain much of the original African influence. Like any other religion, Voodoo has priests and priestesses. The former are referred to as houngans while the latter are called mambos. Their main duties are to conduct religious ceremonies. In Africa, ceremonies are conducted in temples called honfours. In some places, the priests and priestesses practice folk medicine. Their other roles include providing individual members with guidance and settling disputes within the community. Marie Laveau, born 1794, was a powerful figure in New Orleans. She served as a Voodoo priestess and did many selfless works including aiding the homeless. Even today, people leave sacrifices on her grave.

Anyone can be a houngan or a mambo after entering and passing an apprenticeship with a leader. In the same way as Catholic priests and nums enter monasteries, aspiring houngans and mambos may enter religious centers. In some Voodoo communities, the aspiring priest or priestess has to lock himself/herself up from the rest of the world for three days and nights. This ritual symbolizes dying and on the third day, they come out, resurrected.

As mentioned, Voodooists believe in helpful spirits. Similar to Greek gods and goddesses, each deity is link with specific objects, colors, and places. They even possess different personalities and require different sacrifices from their followers or anyone who seeks their aid.

In pretty much the same way as one looks up to a public figure and seeks the advice of a mentor, it is possible for you to develop a relationship with a Voodoo spirit. If you wish to embrace the principles that a loa represents, then you can invoke the spirit so that his/her power will aid you in your current circumstances.

Understanding The First Quarter Moon

;)

Understanding The First Quarter Moon

A first quarter moon shows half of its lighted hemisphere – half of its day side – to Earth.

But we officially call this moon a quarter and not a half because it is one quarter of the way around in its orbit of Earth, as measured from one new moon to the next.

This moon appears half-lit to us, and half moon is a beloved name (although not an official one). Still, it’s good to recall that the illuminated portion of a first quarter moon truly is just a quarter. On the night of first quarter moon, we see half the moon’s day side, or a true quarter of the moon. Another lighted quarter of the moon shines just as brightly in the direction opposite Earth!

A first quarter moon rises at noon and is high overhead at sunset. It sets around midnight.

First quarter moon comes a week after new moon. Now, as seen from above, the moon in its orbit around Earth is at right angles to a line between the Earth and sun.

As the moon orbits Earth, it changes phase in an orderly way. Follow these links to understand the various phases of the moon.

Try wearing some honeysuckle-scented perfume to encourage prosperity. Bewitch someone by wearing deep royal blue or brighten up a dreary day by wearing lucky, prosperity-drawing green. Brew up a pot of mint tea to help increase your cash flow. Try adding a pinch of nutmeg or cinnamon to an unscented candle to encourage some fast cash. Bake up a loaf of wheat bread for the family, and celebrate abundance and be thankful for all that you have.

Conjure up a witchy craft and create a philter or two for your magickal needs. Work with the deities and the magickal plants corresponding with Thursday.

How did the energies of the plants of Jupiter enhance your magick? What did you learn by working with Juno, Jove, or Zeus? The truth is that by adding these new techniques and information into your spellcasting repertoire, you will indeed advance your skills, thereby moving up in the ranks to become a more adept magickal practitioner

Just by believing in yourself and working toward creating abundance, health, and prosperity, you have already begun to transform your outlook on life. Put your game face on; think positively. Work with Thor for perseverance and courage, and apply those qualities to your own prosperity spells and healing witchery. Break out the tarot cards; How could you incorporate that symbolism into other spells of your own design?

Use your imagination, check Thursday’s correspondence list, and see what other bewitching things you can conjure up for prosperity magick all by yourself. Call on the gods and goddess of Thursday and bring some positive change, abundance, health, and prosperity into your life!

Thursday’s Witchery

Saprotroph

Thursday’s Witchery

Today is the day for prosperity work of all kinds. It can also be used for healing work, whether that is a physical healing of an illness or an emotional healing. Also remember that you have to follow up your healing work and prosperity magick and physical action.

I can’t tell you the number of times I have met new witches who complain to me that their prosperity spell or “I need a better job” spell did not work as they expected. They’ll ramble on and on about how much time and money they spent working their magick….but, alas, they had no glorious manifestation of wealth or fabulous job that suddenly dropped out of the sky and landed in their laps.

Then, when I gently ask them, “Did you enchant your resume or application when you filled it out? Did you do a little confidence-boosting spellwork when you went to apply for the job or went to the interview?” typically they give me a blank, confused stare.

Nine times out of ten, their response is, “You mean I have to go out and actually look for the job too?” Um, yes, my dear, you certainly do. Magick follows the path of least resistance, which means it’s going to manifest along the simplest, quickest route. Get out there and hit the pavement. See what you can find. Times are tough and competition for good jobs is fierce, so you need whatever edge you can get. For folks like us, we’re going to get the edge by using our magick and our spellcraft.

Thursdays have such a rich source of magick for us to draw upon that, honestly, the sky is the limit. This is the day associated with the gods of the sky and heavens, after all. Get to know these deities and add their wisdom and magick into your days

Thursday

Grounded

Thursday

Thursday is the fifth day of the week in the Judeo-Christian calendar, falling between Wednesday and Friday. In countries that adopt the Sunday-first convention, it is considered the fifth day of the week. However, in ISO 8601 it is the fourth day of the week. In Slavic languages and in Chinese, this day’s name is “fourth” (Polish czwartek, Russian четверг, pronounced CHET-vierg). Portuguese, too, uses a number for this day: quinta-feira, “fifth day”, (see Days of the week for more on the different conventions).

The contemporary name comes from the Old English Þunresdæg (with loss of -n-, first in northern dialects, from influence of Old Norse Þorsdagr), meaning “Day of Thunor”, this being a rough Germanic equivalent to the Latin Iovis Dies, “Jupiter’s Day”. Most Germanic and Romance-speaking countries use their languages’ equivalents: German Donnerstag, torsdag in Scandinavia, Italian giovedì, Spanish jueves, French jeudi, Catalan dijous, and Romanian joi. The Hindi word for Thursday is Guruvar, with Guru being the Sanskrit name for the planet Jupiter.

In Thailand, the color associated with Thursday is orange, see Thai solar calendar.

Thursday in religion
In the Hindu religion, Thursday is Guruvaar, from Guru, the Sanskrit name for Jupiter, the largest of planets. Guruvaar fasting is very common in the various parts of north India.

Quakers traditionally refer to Thursday as “Fifth Day” eschewing the pagan origin of the name “Thursday”. The name of the day is also called by words meaning “fifth day” in Icelandic, Modern Greek, Portuguese, and modern Semitic languages.

In the Christian tradition, Maundy Thursday is the Thursday before Easter — the day on which the Last Supper occurred. Ascension Thursday is the day 40 days after Easter, when Christ ascended into Heaven.
In the United States, Thanksgiving Day is an annual festival celebrated on a Thursday in November, currently the fourth Thursday.

A religion (which is a joke version of omphalism) known as Last Thursdayism teaches that the world was created last Thursday, but with the appearance of age: people’s memories, history books, fossils, light already on the way from distant stars, and so forth.

Astrological and Astronomical sign
The astrological and astronomical sign of the planet Jupiter (Jupiter) represents Thursday with similar names in Latin-derived languages, such as the French Jeudi. In English, this became “Thor’s Day,” since the Roman god Jupiter was identified with Thor in northern Europe.

In The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, the character Arthur Dent says “This must be Thursday. I could never get the hang of Thursdays”. A few minutes later the planet Earth is destroyed. Thor, for whom the day was named, also appears later in the Hitchhiker’s series and in other Adams books. Appropriately, in The Long Dark Tea-time of the Soul, one of the characters says to Thor: “I’m not used to spending the evening with someone who’s got a whole day named after them”.

THE WIZARD AND HIS DRAGONS

Thursday, June 9th

Thursday is the day of the planet Jupiter, dedicated to Thunor(Thor), God of thunder and agricultural work. His parallels in various European traditions are Zeus, Taranis, Perun, Perkunas and St. Olaf. The faith of the Northern Tradition holds Thursday sacred, just as Islam reveres Friday, Judaism the Sabbath(calculated from sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday), and Christianity, Sunday. This is why almost all adages about Thursday are positve, such as “Thursday’s child has far to go,” “Sneeze on Thursday, something better,” or “Cut nails on Thursday for wealth.” Thursday rules controlled optimism, energetic growth, physical well-being and material success.

The Sky This Week for June 9 to June 12

Fairy Tale

The Sky This Week for June 9 to June 12

Thursday, June 9

• The bright planets Mars and Saturn join with the 1st-magnitude star Antares to create a dramatic triangle in the southern sky these June evenings. A red supergiant star whose color mimics that of Mars, Antares is the luminary of the constellation Scorpius the Scorpion. Aim your binoculars a degree west (to the right) of the star and you’ll find the globular cluster M4. This object contains more than 100,000 stars and looks like a faint ball of cotton. A telescope shows dozens of stars scattered across the cluster’s face. To learn more about this constellation’s best telescopic objects, see “Target gems of Scorpius” in the June issue of Astronomy.

Friday, June 10

• Look high in the northwest after darkness falls this month, and you will see the familiar shape of the Big Dipper. The Dipper is the most conspicuous asterism — a recognizable pattern of stars that doesn’t embody a complete constellation shape — in the entire sky. It forms the body and tail of Ursa Major the Great Bear. Use the Pointers, the two stars at the end of the Dipper’s bowl, to find Polaris, which lies due north for everyone north of the equator. Polaris marks the end of the Little Dipper’s handle. On June evenings, the relatively faint stars of this dipper arc directly above Polaris.

Saturday, June 11

• A half-lit Moon hangs about 4° to Jupiter’s left in this evening’s sky. The pair becomes visible within a half-hour after sunset (though the Moon shows up in the daytime sky during the afternoon) and remains on view until 1 a.m. local daylight time. The Moon officially hits First Quarter phase at 4:10 a.m. EDT tomorrow morning.

Sunday, June 12

• For people who live near 35° north latitude, today marks the earliest sunrise of the year. Although the Northern Hemisphere’s longest day doesn’t occur until Earth’s summer solstice on June 20, earliest sunrise happens several days before and latest sunset several days after. The specific dates depend on your latitude, however. In general, earliest sunrise occurs closer to the solstice the farther north you live.
