Spring Equinox – Ostara Traditions

defis winter blanc bleu et grisSpring Equinox – Ostara Traditions

Ostara or the Vernal Equinox is also known as Lady Day or Alban Eiler (Druidic). As spring reaches its midpoint around March 21, night and day stand in perfect balance, with light on the increase. The young Sun God now celebrates a hierogamy (sacred marriage) with the young Maiden Goddess, who conceives. In nine months, she will again become the Great Mother.

The Spring Equinox or Ostara is sacred to Eostre, the Saxon Goddess of Spring, Green Earth and Fertility. Ostara is said to be the Greek translation of Eostre’s name. Her two symbols were the egg and the rabbit. The first Easter egg was said to have been decorated for her by a small hare determined to make the egg as beautiful and new as Eostre made the world each spring. Today her symbols are commonly known as the Easter egg and Easter bunny.

In nature, hens begin to lay eggs when there is 12 hours or more of daylight. At the onset of spring our ancestors could count on gathering fresh eggs from their chickens and the egg became a reliable symbol of rebirth in the cycle of nature.

Magical aspects: peace, sleep, healing, compassion, friendships, psychic awareness, purification, and fertility

Monday is ruled by the moon – an ancient symbol of mystery and peace. Monday is a special day for mothers as the cycle of the moon has long been associated with the female menstrual cycle. Those wishing to conceive a baby would be wise to try on a Monday as the magic of motherhood is strong and pregnancy is in the air.

This is the proper day of the week to perform spells and rituals involving agriculture, animals, female fertility, messages, reconciliation’s, theft, voyages, dreams, emotions, clairvoyance, home, family, medicine, cooking, personality, merchandising, psychic work, Faerie magic, and Goddess rituals.

Aspects of the Moon in Virgo

Aspects of the Moon in Virgo

MOON VIRGOS ARE AT HOME IN ROUTINE, AND SHOW CONTROL FREAK TRAITS WHEN THROWN OFF BALANCE.

The lunar nature, when it’s expressed through Virgo, seeks purification, well-being and order. The Virgo Moons I know are hyper-alert to their surroundings, making them high maintenance travelers.

The Moon in Virgo person is uniquely aware of the physical side of life. This is reflected in their grasp of the details, and a desire to continually tweak the daily routine for maximum benefit.

For them, the routine is the thing, and many are admired for their consistent discipline from day to day.

DAILY DIGESTION

I’ve observed with this Moon a lot of issues around eating, digestion and personal boundaries. If there are hard aspects (Pluto, Saturn) to the Moon, there could be a lot of micro-managing of the child by the parent. This could make an emotional mark, and show up in things like eating disorders later.

This Moon has a sensitive nervous system, and if he or she grows up with trauma, there could be a lot of phobias that follow them into adulthood. Virgo’s Dark Side is expressed with those extremes of worry and hypochondria.

The Virgo Moon can sometimes retreat into a loop of activity, that others would find claustrophobic. It’s only unhealthy if it’s a defense against change and the possibility of feeling overwhelmed.

By looking at the Moon’s House position, you’ll see where this physical atennae is attuned.

You can be the canary in the coal mine, and pickup on toxins or discord before others do.

But some use this sensitivity as a healer, sensing what others need as a physician, parent, herbalist or physical therapist. You may be on the front lines, in the quest to clean up the work place, your home or the culture from degradation or toxic influences.

HEALTHY OR HABITUAL?

Those with Moon in Virgo are happiest when at home in their own skin, which so often comes from having a healthy regimen. But this goes beyond exercising to include things like solitary walks to clear the mind, and time spent writing in a journal. Ideally, they’ll refine their day so that mind, body and spirit end up feeling refreshed.

When Virgoan qualities inhabit the Moon, these routines become a daily emotional need. Other habits that exercise their active minds might be doing crossword puzzles, reading the morning paper or getting lost in books.

But even a seemingly healthy routine can become an obsession, and psychic guard against the forces of chaos. Luckily, Virgo is a mutable sign, and are flexible and open to change, if they’re not too highly strung with anxieties or “what ifs.”

MEETING THE MOON IN VIRGO

Upon first meeting a Moon in Virgo, they’ll likely observe you coolly and without any signs that you’ll be welcomed into their circle. They respect those that offer practical insights and logical thinking over those whose minds are by nature chaotic. On the other hand, a disheveled person might become a special improvement project since above all the Virgo Moon loves to be of service.

In romance, they’ll be discriminating, but also aren’t afraid to take on a “fixer-upper.” The problem comes when the Virgo Moon takes the critical parent role too far, eclipsing all others. The key is maintaining a wholesome balance in the relationship, and not taking the constant advice as a stamp of disapproval, but as a sign of their devoted affection.

Magick, Enchantment & Witchery for Monday

Magick, Enchantment & Witchery for Monday

Think for a moment on all of the witchery, magick and enchantments that you have discovered. Don’t be afraid to adjust spells to suit your own specific needs. Any gentle, illusory, and dreamy charms and spells can be enhanced when you work on the day of the week that is dedicated to the moon. Mondays are a fantastic day to boost your psychic abilities and to tune in to your intuition and empathy. It also gives you the opportunity to work with a different lunar phase each and every Monday, which means in one month you could work four different types of moon magicks on Mondays. How’s that for adding to your repertoire? You are going to have mad skills in no time at all.

So light up those lunar scented candles and add a little mystique to your outfit by wearing an enchanting lunar color. Wear your sparkling silver jewelry and maybe add a pair of dangling silver earrings or a pendant shaped like a crescent moon. Create lunar potions and philters; make a dream catcher and give it as a gift to someone you love. Burn some sandalwood or jasmine-scented incense today to inspire the glamour and magick of the moon. Slice up a favorite variety of fruit that is in season for a snack or share it with your love and enjoy his or her lunar and romantic qualities. Brew up a cup of chamomile tea, enchant it with a little moon magick, and relax and get a good night’s sleep.

Most importantly, get outside tonight and watch the moon for a while. What phase is she in? What color was the moon as she rose? Why not start a journal and write down at what location the moon rises and sets for a few seasons? This is a great way to teach you to tune in and to become more aware of the moon and the influence that she pulls into our lives. Try calling on Selene for her magickal assistance, and call Thoth for wisdom and strength. Get to know the Norse Mani and the Latvian Meness. These gods of the moon have plenty to teach, and if you allow their influence to cycle through your life, you’ll receive many blessings. Be imaginative, and create your own personal lunar magick and witchery. Go on….the moonlight becomes you.

The Witches Guide to Mondays

The Witches Guide to Mondays

In the word Monday, we can see part of the word Moon. In the romance languages such as Italian or Spanish, this day of the week is called Lunes and clearly relates to the word lunar. On Mondays, a variety of magick may be worked. Because Monday centers on the energies of the Moon, things like psychism, dreams, feminine energy, health, success in spiritual pursuits, domestic matters, and things of family origin are especially important this day.

Mondays are best for love magick and anything concerning home or family, thus old saying, Mondays child is fair of face, which seems clearly to relate to the themes of love and health.

Angels of Monday are Gabriel, Arcan, Missabu, and Abuzaha. Arcan is known as the king of the angels of air and the “ruler” of Monday. Abuzaha (Abuzohar) serves Monday, and is very responsive to invocations and ritual magick. Missabu is a ministering angel of Arcan.

Check whether the moon is waning or waxing to determine what your spell will be. During waning moons, do spells to rid yourself of obstacles or for wisdom and protection. During waxing moons do magic for increase of any kind or to draw something into your life.

On Mondays, the best hour to work is moonrise. Get this information from your local newspaper, astrological calendar, or almanac.

The Magickal Day of Monday

Blue FantasyThe Magickal Day of Monday

Monday is the day of the moon itself, and it’s a day that’s connected to lunar colors like silver, white, or even a pale blue. Metals and gemstones like silver, pearl, opal and moonstone all come into play today.

There are plenty of deities associated with the moon – Thoth and Diana for instance – and herbal correspondences include many members of the mint family. Utilize wintergreen or peppermint, as well as catnip, comfrey, sage and chamomile in your workings.

When it comes to Monday magic, because of that lunar connection, it’s a good time to focus on workings related to childbearing and family life, purity and virginity, healing, wisdom, and intuition. Do a little bit of self exploration and work on developing your intuition – learn to trust your gut. Celebrate birth and life, and make some magic to fix what is broken.

On Monday, March 13th, We Celebrate…..

FANTASY WINTER.

On Monday, March 13th, We Celebrate…..

Buergsonndeg (Luxembourg)
NERTHUS

Themes: Spring; Cycles; Health; Energy; Peace; Prosperity

Symbols: Fire; Chariot; Soil

About Nerthus: This Germanic earth goddess welcomes the season with her presence. She was so important in Danish regions that no weapons or iron tools could be left out during her festivals, because that was thought to invoke her displeasure. During spring rites, her statue was covered on a chariot until the priest determined she had arrived to oversee the festivities.

To Do Today: Traditionally, today is spent before a bonfire that greets the sun and banishes the last vestiges of winter. So, take down your heavy winter curtains, and let some light into the house! This restores Nerthus’s positive energy and expels any lingering sicknesses. If it’s cloudy out, turn on some lights, don dazzling-colored clothing, and find ways to brighten up your living space with flowers and decorations that speak of earth (Nerthus) and spring’s beauty.

Another customary activity is turning the soil, mixing it with an offering of milk, flour, and water. Even if you don’t have a garden, turn a little dirt near your apartment or home and leave a similar gift. This action rejoices in Nerthus’s awakening and draws the goddess’s peace and prosperity to your residence. To take a little of that same blessing with you, just collect a bit of the soil-milk mixture in a container and put it wherever you need peace or prosperity the most.

In the Sky This Month

nice Day my Friends ! :: Schönen Tag meine Freunde !

In the Sky This Month

Leo takes its rightful place as the lord of the skies on March nights. The lion is in good view in the east as darkness falls, and springs high across the sky during the night. The bright planet Jupiter trails far behind it, near Spica, the brightest star of Virgo. And the even brighter planet Venus changes addresses during the month. It is the brilliant Evening Star as the month begins, but switches to the morning sky by month’s end.

March 13: Moon and Companions
Look for brilliant Jupiter rising below the almost-full Moon late this evening, with the bright star Spica close to the lower right of Jupiter. Through binoculars, Jupiter’s four big moons look like tiny stars arrayed near the giant planet.

March 14: Moon, Jupiter, and Spica
The dazzling planet Jupiter and the fainter star Spica rise almost even with the Moon this evening. All three objects are within the borders of the constellation Virgo.

March 15: Quasars
Amateur telescopes reveal amazing sights. Perhaps the most amazing looks like an average star. It’s a maelstrom of gas around a massive black hole 2.5 billion light-years away. Known as 3C 273, it’s in the east at nightfall, above the brilliant planet Jupiter.

March 16: Giant Cannibal
Betelgeuse, the bright orange shoulder of Orion, is high in the south-southwest as night falls, above the hunter’s three-star belt. Recent research says that when Betelgeuse was younger, it might have swallowed a companion star as massive as the Sun.

March 17: Venus and Mercury
The Sun’s two closest planets are staging a switcheroo. Mercury is climbing higher into the evening sky, while Venus is dropping out of the sky. Venus is the brilliant “evening star,” with much fainter Mercury close to its lower left tonight.

March 18: Moon, Antares, Saturn
The planet Saturn is in good view early tomorrow. It looks like a bright star to the lower left of the Moon at first light. The bright star Antares stands about the same distance to the lower right of the Moon.

March 19: Vernal Equinox
Those of us in the United States will wake up to a new season tomorrow. Spring begins at 5:29 a.m. CDT, which is the moment of the vernal equinox. It occurs when the Sun crosses Earth’s equator from south to north.

nice Day my Friends ! :: Schönen Tag meine Freunde !Ostara

God and Goddess unite as one,
Sow your seeds in Springtime sun,
As you grow through Warmer Days,
Your beauty shows in many ways.

Youth, vitality, young to old,
Your journey is forever told,
The earth will sleep when Winter comes,
But awake with you in the warm March sun.

So banish darkness with your light,
Let all things grow as well they might,
And we shall look in adoration,
