Tuesday–The Day of Tiu

Tuesday–The Day of Tiu

Tuesday is the first day of the week which is named after a god of the Angles and Saxons–Tiu, the God of War. The Angles and Saxons, like the Greeks and Romans, worshiped many gods, and though these gods were in a great number of ways similar to those of the Greeks and Romans, we also find very great differences. These differences are due to the fact that the Angles and Saxons lived in a very different kind of country, led a very different kind of life, and consequently had different ideas. Their chief enemies were frost and cold, and they imagined the freezing winds to be caused by frost-giants who lived in a land of ice and waged continual warfare with the gods who befriended man and protected him as far as they could against the frost-giants and all the suffering which they caused. The chief of these gods was Woden or Odin, the All-father, of whom we read in the following chapter, and next to him in importance came Thor, the God of Thunder, the bitterest enemy of the giants. The god after whom Tuesday is named was known as Tiu among the Angles and Saxons, and as Tyr among the Norsemen. He was the God of War, and corresponds to Mars among the Romans, whose name for this day was Dies Martis, the day of Mars. The French have kept the Roman name in the form mardi.

Tiu was a great fighter and knew no fear, and was naturally always called upon in time of battle. He was usually represented as having no right hand, owing to a misfortune which befell him in the following way. From his lofty throne Odin, the chief of the gods, one day saw in the land of the giants three terrible monsters, which grew so rapidly that he was filled with fear lest they should invade the home of the gods. Accordingly he determined to get rid of them before they became any stronger. One Hel, an enormous giantess, he flung into the Underworld, where, as the Goddess of Death, she ruled over the kingdom of the dead. Another, Iormungandr, a serpent, he cast into the sea, where it grew so huge that it encircled the whole earth. The third was Fenrir, a wolf, whom Odin brought to Asgard, the home of the gods, hoping that he might eventually tame him. Fenrir, however, grew stronger and fiercer each day, until the gods, of whom Tiu alone was brave enough to go near him, decided at last to bind him in such a way that he could do no harm. A very strong chain was obtained, and the gods suggested to Fenrir, who often boasted of his great strength, that he should allow himself to be bound with it in order to prove whether he was really as strong as he claimed to be. Fenrir agreed, and then by merely stretching himself easily brohe his bonds. Again the gods put him to the test with a still stronger chain, but as before he succeeded in breaking it. Seeing that no ordinary chain would be strong enough to bind Fenrir, the gods sent one of their servants to the home of the dwarfs, a race of little people who lived underground, and who were very clever workers in metal. They also possessed great powers of magic, as we shall see in a later story. At the bidding of the gods, the dwarfs made a silken rope out of the voice of fishes, a woman’s beard, the roots of a mountain, and the footsteps of a cat, which was so strong that no power could break it! A third time the gods challenged Fenrir to show his strength by allowing himself to be bound with this new cord, but Fenrir became suspicious, and at last consented only on condition that one of the gods should put his hand in his mouth, and hold it there as a pledge that the gods were not deceiving him. This condition greatly alarmed the gods, who began to fear that their trick was not going to succeed, but the bold war-god Tiu stepped forward and, without any hesitation, placed his right hand in the wolf’s mouth. The gods at once bound Fenrir with the magic cord made by the dwarfs, and, in spite of all his struggles, the wolf was unable to free himself. Great was the delight of the gods at their success, a delight shared by all but Tiu, who had little cause to be pleased with the result of the trick, for Fenrir, finding he was trapped, immediately bit off the hand of the god. Thus Tiu was deprived of his sword hand, but so clever was he that he wielded his sword equally well with his left hand, and still remained invincible in battle.

On one occasion Tiu and Thor, the God of Thunder, set out for the land of the giants to obtain an enormous kettle, which the gods required for a feast. They came at last to the home of a giant, Hymir, who possessed a kettle a mile deep and a mile wide, and were hospitably received by the giant’s wife. When she learned the errand on which they had come, she warned them that her husband was very fierce and hot-tempered, and advised them to hide themselves when Hymir returned, lest he should kill them with a glance. No sooner had the gods taken refuge behind some kettles, which were kept on a beam at the end of the hall, than Hymir came in. When he heard that visitors had called, he flashed his eyes round the hall so fiercely that, as his glance lighted on the gods’ hiding-place, the beam split in two, the kettles came crashing to the ground, and Tiu and Thor were discovered. Hymir, however, was persuaded by his wife to receive the gods kindly; he prepared a meal of three oxen in their honour, but was astonished and dismayed to see Thor eat two of them himself. The next day the gods gave the giant many proofs of their great strength and skill, and Hymir consented to give them the kettle they were seeking. Tiu at once tried to lift it but failed; then Thor, after a mighty struggle, raised it from the ground, and, as he gave the final pull, his feet broke through the floor of the giant’s house. As soon as the gods had departed, Thor carrying the kettle on his head, Hymir called his brothers together, and pursued after them. Thor, however, attacked them with his famous hammer, and killed them one by one. Tiu and Thor then continued their journey, and brought the huge kettle safely to their own land.

There are few stories told of Tiu, yet he held a high place among the gods, as the name Tuesday shows. He is most famous for his share in the binding of Fenrir, whereby was put off the dreaded Ragnarok, the day of the final battle between the gods and the giants.

Whale Festival (California)
WHALE GODDESS

Themes: Nature; Meditation; Rebirth; Movement

Symbols: Water; Whale

About the Whale Goddess: In Arabic tradition, the Whale Goddess swallowed Jonah, neatly giving him time to consider his life and actions seriously before his figurative reibrth. Let’s hope she doesn’t have to go that far to get our attention this month (or anytime, for that matter).

In some stories, the earth rests on this goddess’s back and earthquakes result when she gets upset and shakes her tail. Symbolically, when your life seems on shaky ground, consider what this goddess is trying to tell you!

To Do Today: Around this time of year in Northern California, people examine the coastline with renewed interest and anticipation. They’re watching the annual whale migration—a breathtaking sight. Since many of us cannot experience this firsthand, consider the whale as a magickal symbol instead. The gods ride whales to carry messages to the mortal world. Witches ride them to bear their magick on the water. In both instances the whale carries something–either to your heart or toward a goal. Use this image in meditations for movement, and consider the symbolism if whales shows up in your dreams tonight

If possible, visit an aquarium and watch whales there. Or send a donation to an accredited facility to give something back to the Whale Goddess and her children.

The Month of March

As March blows into our lives bringing spring and new begginings, we look to the source of all life as our Goddess of the Month.

Over 6000 years ago, the known world had a different feel. There were no city fortresses, or war. Progress was centred around the development of art, crafts, and agriculture. Then, unlike today, the societies of the world were matriarchal. The sexes were equal but the role of mother and giver of life was unequalled by any task that men could do and so women were honoured and their societies flourished.

Later, around 3,500 BCE, marauding bands of men began destabilizing these societies and subjugating women. Few were able to withstand the superior strength of the invaders. The Amazons, for example, were among the few surviving cultures. In subsequent years the temples, statues, art work, and beauty of those civilizations were lost and buried but not gone from our deepest unconscious. Modern archeologists have found in certain places like Turkey, evidence of highly developed cultures. Unfortunately, an unbiased interpretation did not always find its way into history.

We are in essence a replication of each human that ever was born. Within ourselves we carry patterns and thoughts that connect us with the past. This term was called the collective unconscious by Carl Jung. While the mysteries of the Goddess have been buried, they have not died. The constant change of seasons and the rebirth of the land each spring tell us that our origin from a Great Mother is part of us all. Many myths tell of Her rise from Chaos to give birth to humanity.

There are many creation stories from cultures all around the world. The Goddesses will have different names that are familiar to each of us and so we celebrate not one but all of the women in history who represent the life force of the culture in which you belong. To honour Her, plant a seed and watch it grow. Tend it with loving care and watch its many faces throughout the year and remember the source of your life.

Song of the Seasons

Come and wake the sleepers
Rouse them with a song
Tell them winter’s over
Though it has been long

Sing awake the flowers
Bushes, grass, and trees
Tell them spring is here now
Sun and birds and breeze

Set the world to dancing
Soon will summer come
Pan is playing pipes and
Gaia beats her drum

Now the seeds of autumn
Set so long ago
Must awake and ready
For it’s time to grow

Your Cosmic Weather Horoscopes for the Month of March

Your Cosmic Weather Horoscopes for the Month of March

 by Jane Lyle, Astrologer

From the Astrology Room

The global hive is awake, and the season turns as we approach the Vernal Equinox on 20th March. So please do relish the very early days of March, still drowsy and dreaming beneath planets in Pisces, and a hazy full Moon in Virgo – the first of two full Moons this month. The remainder of March demands action.

Tuesday 6th March – Saturday 31st March:

Sheep and Goats – The Challenges of March, 2018

Venus and Mercury enter fiery Aries, the Ram, today. A blast of fresh, straightforward energy, a burst of pure, spring-like optimism is born. This bright partnership is around until 22nd March. So, our spring-time actions speak louder than words – but wait! Don’t accelerate too fast. Sober old Saturn, in the sign of the Sea Goat, is about to slow us down a little.

This is especially important news for Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn, and for anyone with planets in those signs at 7 – 10 degrees.

What might we watch out for? The machinations of Mercury are worth noticing for a start. Chatty, mischievous Mercury represents media and travel, amongst other things. When Mercury clashes with Saturn there’s an air of restraint, restrictions, or limitations on what we say, tweet, write, or express. Similarly, travel delays or speed limits are in the news. Mercury in Aries can be tactless as well, multiplying the ‘oops I didn’t mean that’ moments this spring.

With Mercury reversing in Aries from the 23rd March – 15th April, it’s sensible to allow extra time for all our journeys, large and small, this spring, and take all the usual Mercury backtracking precautions.

Mercury squares off with Saturn on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th March. Over this weekend, many of us will be saying ‘enough is enough’ about something in our lives. The same impulses to take action reappear between 21st and 26th April – so if we hold off on facing up to something now, we’ll get another invitation from the Universe!

And pleasure-loving Venus, lively, sporty, and impulsive in Aries, faces up to Saturn too – on Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th March. Some limitations in love, art, fashion, money, and social events are the usual manifestations. Yet this isn’t always such a bad thing, it favours refinement, it says ‘less is more’. It could also be a helpful time to begin a diet, clear out your wardrobe, or experiment with some kind of digital detox.

If this all sounds too bleak, here’s a more charming Venus-and-Saturn thought:

‘Elegance is rare in the modern world, largely because it requires precision, attention to detail, and the careful development of a delicate taste in all forms of manners and style.’

– Genevieve Antoine Dariaux, ‘Elegance’ (1964)

Practising sorting the sheep from the goats with delicacy and precision is helpful preparation for later in March, when things take a more uncompromising, even dramatic turn.

A Bracing time

As the weeks pass, there’s no doubt that we’re in for an eventful, bracing time. It kicks in during the run-up to the end of March, culminating in the Easter weekend of 30th March – 2nd April.

On Wednesday 28th March – Thursday 29th March the Sun, newly vibrant in Aries, argues with Saturn in Capricorn. People in authority and government are tested, or must face up to very serious situations, and a great deal of effort or responsibility. In our own families, and at work, a similar story is told about those in charge, or senior family members. It can be a dynamic turning point.

Alongside this, Mars – ruling action and desire – moves towards meeting Time Lord Saturn in Capricorn – exact at the beginning of April. This is a weighty moment.

Mars and Saturn don’t align in the same sign again until 2020. The basic message of these two is ‘restricted action’. This means hard work, and heavy responsibilities – yet what’s achieved can last for a long time when the young warrior and the old king work together. Sport, finance, military plans, and legal matters are all in high focus this spring.

So, yes, it’s looking quite crunchy in the days leading up to a dynamic, possibly disruptive, Libran full Moon on 31st March on Easter Saturday.

These testing, push-me-pull-you days begin around Saturday, 24th March, when the mighty Sun challenges Mars, highlighting anger, impulsiveness, and confrontational events.

Uncompromising attitudes in our world continue to buffet us over the Easter weekend that follows.  Such sobering, chillsome cosmic weather demands extra effort, discipline, and caution from everyone. This is the big astrological theme for March 2018.

If you, or someone close, have planets in Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn at around 7 – 10 degrees of those signs, prepare for a seriously grown-up phase this spring.

An astrologer can always tell you more about how this works out for you personally, of course.

Saturday 17th March:

St. Patrick’s Day and a potent New Moon in Pisces

Pisces new Moon celebrates what’s fantastical, entertaining, contemplative or magical. This one comes powered by Jupiter for a thrilling tour of the haunted castle, or the mysterious underground cavern. There’s healing potential, and incredible imaginative energy here.

But Mars square the Moon spells uncertain tempers and turbulent emotions. Close by, the fixed star Scheat in the constellation Pegasus symbolises amazing potential, yet warns against risky falls from the heights.

So please do be extremely aware of confusion – this is not the time to begin work requiring balance or consistency. Over-inflated dreams will fail, while pushing recklessly ahead brings accidents. Why not simply indulge in some rest and relaxation instead? Your imagination is bursting with gifts for you.

Tuesday, 20th – Wednesday 21st March:

The Spring Equinox

Spring is here! Today, the Sun enters the first sign of the Zodiac, Aries. Our astrological year begins. All the symbolism of this pivotal moment is about new life, fertility, dynamism, beginnings.  This year, an earthy Taurus Moon expands that intoxicating feeling of spring fever, while hot-headed Mars stirs up energy and fighting spirit from equally earthy Capricorn.

The day and night are of equal length now, a point of balance. We’ll have to look for it and strive for it. In many corners of this fresh spring world we are – collectively – quite as mad as those magical, traditional March Hares.

Saturday 31st March:

Balancing Trick – The Full Moon in Libra

A full Moon in Libra always has balance, poise, and artful skill at its heart. This one – connecting with sober Saturn and determined Mars – throws down a tough challenge. It poses questions about partnerships between me and you, us and them, the people and their governments, independence and security. It is dynamic, meaning that we can (eventually) work things out.

This is a Blue Moon, the second full Moon this month. It energises the national horoscopes of many locations. All of them will be considering their partnerships, governments, and alliances, one way or another. They include the UK, Israel and Palestine, Australia, Russia, and much of Eastern Europe. This is a notable full Moon for the EU too.

We’ll be wanting those Libran diplomatic skills, and all the power and beauty of Venus, just arrived in her home sign of earthy Taurus on this very day. It’s looking like a busy – yet potentially productive – April awaits us all.

ARIES

Are you in a pensive mood? Well, don’t feel bad about taking the time you need for reflection. For like a flower in spring, you’ll gradually open up to the world around you as the days pass. Venus and Mercury in Aries from 6th March, boost your charm and your way with words for the rest of this month. And Mars in skittish Sagittarius is heating up your social and romantic life – especially when travelling – until 17th March, so making a good impression should be easy-peasy. After this, your attention shifts towards your dreams and ambitions. You soon realise that you’ll need to work very hard this spring – there may well be obstacles to overcome, some in the shape of other people, or long standing connections. You’ll see things in a new light beneath the full Moon on 31st, and there’ll be even more encouraging revelations and surprises coming your way in April.  While you can’t push the river, you can certainly establish some firm, new foundations over the coming weeks. Cultivate patience.

TAURUS

Early March brings deliciously sweet dreams, so do make the very most of it and enjoy beauty, art, food and love. Planets begin lining up in Aries on 6th March, when both Venus and Mercury enter the hidden house of your solar chart. Secret negotiations, clandestine romance, or tricky people who smile at you while working against your interests are all highlighted – with the days between 10th-14th looking very sensitive. Perhaps you’re trying to establish something of your own, but find the power plays or plans of others are distracting you? Perhaps you’re inclined to be seduced by someone you think is more creative, spiritual, or charismatic than you are? Just be wary, proceed with your usual aplomb, and wait and see what emerges towards the very end of March. Some very interesting opportunities are waiting for you in April, especially if your plans involve study, finding a new job, or making a proper romantic commitment.

GEMINI

It’s good to be aware that Mercury, your light-footed ruling planet, reverses on 23rd March and turns direct again on 15th April. So, as you probably know, communications, computers, and travel plans can get a bit tangled up during this phase – and in the days either side of those dates. Belt and braces plans will be needed.  It’s a perfect time to review things though, particularly creative projects, exercise regimes, and the ways you choose to communicate with everybody. There are lively, flirty social events to enjoy too – with invitations from colleagues, partners and friends encouraging you to get out and about. Meanwhile, the new Moon in Pisces on 17th March hints at fresh possibilities, or suggestions for new ways to earn some extra money. Try not to get carried away though, for there’ll be some sobering financial issues to negotiate. You may have wait before you get what you want, because, on the whole, others don’t think or act as speedily as you do. Eventually, and probably after 15th April, you shall prevail.

CANCER

It’s a lively month for your hopes, dreams, work, and connections with others. Look outwards is the general message, so try to resist getting bogged down in money worries or financial shenanigans. Of course your finances are important – and those eclipses in January and February will have highlighted that for many of you – but, but, but. There’s more to life, and if you can widen out your life in some way – socially, creatively, or spiritually – you’ll benefit in so many ways. And, you know, by wandering routes and mysterious paths, you’ll probably end up benefiting in terms of your cash and security too. Early March favours adventure and imagination, so if you want to expand your skills and knowledge, or find love, do respect those fleeting thoughts your subconscious throws at you and follow up a few leads. Later on there are likely to be a few unavoidable dramas or challenges with those close to you. A feisty full Moon in Libra on 31st March highlights home and family, bringing something to your attention, or marking the end of a phase. Don’t stress! You’re very well-equipped to deal with this.

LEO

Fiery Mars in Sagittarius brings curiosity and fun to your journeys and explorations until 17th March. Even short journeys can inspire or surprise. So learning more about the world around you, even if you’re stuck at home, can be very creative or even romantic this month. Unusual or unexpected encounters are set to shake up any dusty old ideas you might be hanging on to – particularly around mid-month, and at the end of March. Those Leo-Aquarius eclipses of January and February have – on many levels – highlighted your relationship with yourself, and with others. So you may be feeling a bit restless – in search of change, but not sure what form it might take. Nothing has to be decided straight away. Your optimism and openness are brightened by Venus and Mercury in Aries this month, and they make lively companions. If you want to write, or raise your profile in some way, it’s a helpful time to use original ways of promoting yourself and your skills. It’s also good to get involved with neighbourhood projects, get-togethers, or social events. Routines may be disrupted, but don’t you think that some new ones wouldn’t be such a bad idea?

VIRGO

Although there are many debates about your ruling planet, traditional astrology says Virgo is ruled by fleet-footed Mercury. So it’s worth noting that Mercury rewinds from 23rd March – 16th April. This flags up all the usual nonsense with travel plans, computers, communications and details, just in time for the Easter holiday weekend. Triple check plans, and keep your software up-to-date. Tedious? Yes, but it’s a great chance to pick over details of any shared financial arrangements, and is also a helpful moment to talk honestly to lovers and supporters about what you need, and what you think. A strong new Moon in Pisces rises on 17th March, which suggests that certain relationships at home or work could do with a bit of a spring clean. Are there any hidden resentments? Have you kept quiet about something difficult or hurtful? If you feel something like this is holding you back, you’re in a good place to clear up any misunderstandings. Why not open up the windows, and let in some fresh air?

LIBRA

People are out to charm and disarm you this spring. Well, some of the time anyway. So you could sit back now and then, and see what’s on offer instead of trying to be the captain of your personal ship all the time.  Relax, and you’ll discover unlikely champions, allies, inspirations and potential collaborators – particularly during the first two weeks of this month. You may not really relish surprises, yet making space for the unexpected offers you an intriguing perspective. Your home and family, or even your ancestors, want more of your attention as the weeks pass, with Mars moving into serious Capricorn until mid-May. So whether you’re digging into history, decorating, or planning on some zen de-cluttering of heart, mind, or wardrobe, you’ll have the grit and determination to see whatever it is through. Certainly, with a dynamic and uncompromising full Moon in Libra on 31st March, you’re approaching a pivotal moment. By the merry month of May, you’ll see why, and you’ll be smiling.

SCORPIO

Early March plays the same bewitching music you heard in late February. The dreamy mood favours love, creativity, playfulness and your relationships with any children in your life. Do enjoy it all, and take a break if you possibly can. The push to get on with things bubbles up, particularly once Mars (your traditional ruling planet) enters no-nonsense Capricorn on 17th March. If you need to promote yourself, get in touch with people, or communicate in any way then the next couple of months would be a positive moment for such projects. Jupiter reverses in Scorpio on 9th March until 10th July –  reminding you of past ideas or half-forgotten possibilities. If you think you may have missed out on something, this should help you see that you can pick up where you left off, or make a success out of something that seemed to fail before. Perhaps that’s a relationship, or perhaps it’s the search for some sort of personal best. Keep going, for what begins in a small, even plodding way this month can burst into colourful life by late April.

SAGITTARIUS

Little by little you’re shifting gear. All manner of realisations are surfacing since Saturn left Sagittarius, and you need time to process what’s going on. Early March is still dream-time, but you’ll probably notice a few hints about your career or where you’d like to be in your life – a movie could get you thinking, or a seemingly casual conversation sparks off a train of thought. And when Mars in your sign is all lit up by Uranus in fiery Aries between 6th – 12th, followed by a potent new Moon on 17th March you could be looking at a whole new vista. You may not be able to spend a lot of money in pursuit of your dreams, or your crush, but don’t let this put you off romance, or stretching your mind.  Using your amazing imagination will propel you further than you think. You’ll just have to find ways under, over, or around those rocks in your path. There’s plenty of time to tweak things, or experiment if you want to – Jupiter, your ruler, rewinds until 10th July, a helpful time to revise your plans. By November Jupiter enters Sagittarius, so right now you’re in a vital transition period. Why not make the most of it?

CAPRICORN

Relentless could be your middle name this spring. Why? Mars is in Capricorn for the first time since 2016, joining Saturn, your ruling planet, and powerful Pluto in your own sign. So you’ve got some serious planetary back-up, and will be in the right frame of mind to just keep on keeping on. Have you set your heart on anything? Good fortune and positive help flows from projects involving groups. Now those could range from your local market to a choir, a community campaign, or a class you attend. Others are one of the keys to your success and fulfilment, so take it easy. There’s no need to control everything – your charisma and energy will dazzle everyone. And what you’re aiming for now will gradually come together over the next couple of months. As a result, certain things will be left behind – as the full Moon on 31st March should reveal. For some of you, this could signpost a new home, fresh family routine, or even a new family member. For others it signals a new phase in your relationship. Just remember, you’ve got more oomph than you know, so tread softly.

AQUARIUS

A surprise or revelation is on its way. Mars in the sign of the traveller, Sagittarius, is eager to deliver some amazing news to you this month. For when Mars meets Uranus, your ruling planet, sparks fly – and both circumstances and attitudes are challenged. Your willingness to consider unusual ideas, or get to know edgy or eccentric people, opens the door to possibilities and questions now. So why not do some exploring, and check out your options? For some Aquarians, news and opportunities will link to foreign locations, or bring a chance to travel for work or study. For others, a long-distance friend or lover becomes more important in your life. Either way, past discussions about future plans can now be chewed over, refined, or even rejected. There’s much brewing behind the scenes, but by late May you’ll be in the mood to create change or take action. You can move forward at a measured pace, for once action planet Mars enters Aquarius on 16th May, you’ve got that dynamic energy on your side (with one short break) until November.

PISCES

A potent new Moon in Pisces rises on 17th March, meaning that you’ve got a kind of brand new year moment all over again. And energetic Mars is currently encouraging you to do something a bit different, particularly when it comes to your finances or even the way you earn a living. Admittedly, March begins in a bit of haze. Getting things straight with a partner or longstanding friend or associate will be almost impossible at that time. You’re better off focusing on your gorgeously creative, spiritual side for a while – and as you may have already noticed, that’s a vitally important theme this year. So whether you’re learning to play music, discovering meditation, or planning an adventure, you’ll find this more fulfilling than having some horribly familiar, confusing argument with someone close. Positive developments link with study, using your skills, and friendship – so don’t feel you must sacrifice everything you enjoy for the sake of just one other person. The bigger picture is just so much more beautiful.

This Week’s Tarot Card Is the Seven of Cups!

This Week’s Tarot Card Is the Seven of Cups!

This month’s cards encourage us to explore personal balance further, making sure our actions match the values we have claimed for living life. Self-examination is a constant necessity if we are to keep one side of the scale from tipping too far, throwing us off balance and off course. The cards pulled this month talk a lot about patterns and points of view. They suggest that an attitude of acceptance and patience encourages growth and keeps us discovering more of what life has to offer.

March 5-11: Seven of Cups

3

I see the Seven of Cups as one manifestation of our theme for this month, Justice. The current exploration of values and actions may be turning up a list of unmet needs, desires, and goals. It would be natural to feel an urge to fill in the gaps immediately, and all at once, leading to the scattered energy of this Cups card. Whether it’s a response to responsibility or the result of a curious mind that wants to explore everything in a world full of wonders, the Seven of Cups expresses the end result: feeling overwhelmed. When we have too much happening at once (too many cups we have to keep filled), we may not be able to give adequate attention to each pursuit. We end up feeling unfocused, and that muddled state can lead to a loss of direction. Only when we let some things go (or at least prioritize our attention) can we fill each cup fully. This does not mean that important visions must be dismissed permanently, but we may need to address them one at a time. This also reminds me of last month’s spread, the creative brainstorming and project management inspired by the reversed Eight of Pentacles. It’s wonderful to generate lots of ideas, but to actually make things happen, we have to get organized, then follow through in a more methodical, gradual way.

Exercise for the Seven of Cups: Working smarter, not harder

1. Sketch out all your ideas/plans. For each one, list the next three steps towards completion. See if any overlap exists, and if those ideas can be advanced with the same actions.
2. Prioritize — what is most important to you, and what can wait? This is a natural extension of the values quest from the Justice exercise. How does value get assigned? Will you base this on emotional importance (for yourself), other people’s needs, or something more practical like length of time to completion, selecting the easiest to accomplish first so that you can cross items off the list right away?
3. Take it one step at a time. Work through your list, focusing on each major step. Meanwhile, are there small actions you can take to progress any of the other items without disrupting your workflow?

Your Daily Tarot Card for March 5th is Two of Swords

Tarot Card of the Day

Two of Swords

51
The Two in this suit usually represents conflicting ideas or visions. These must be reconciled by communication in order to arrive in a harmonious place or to complete strategic negotiations. Mixed signals prevail.

While they may be appearing to try to communicate, opposite sides are missing each other entirely, with possibly drastic consequences. In the best case, a frank discussion would clear the air and serve both sides, but one cannot expect that in every instance where this card appears.

Your Horoscopes for Tuesday, March 5th

From The Astrology Room

ARIES (March 21st-April 20th)
Other people seem to be influencing what you do and how you act. Remember who you are and try to be your own person. It’s what will give you the confidence to make the life changing decision that awaits you later this month.

TAURUS (April 21st-May 21st)
You know Taurus, a person can only grow as much as their horizon will allow. Try to do things which are different from the norm and attempt to think ‘outside’ the box. A lack of energy is replaced by a surge of one.

GEMINI (May 22nd-June 21st)
Your heart and your head seem to be battling it out for truths but until you are honest about what you need and not just what looks good to others then you will not get your answers.

CANCER (June 22nd-July 23rd)
Try to make sure that you are not confusing current relationships with past ones. It would be far better for you to slow your pace and feel your way through all that’s occurring.

LEO (July 24th-August 23rd)
You seem to be running out of time to make decisions which you know have to be made but which you appear to be waiting on approval from others for. Playing games in love tonight is not an option.

VIRGO (August 24th-September 23rd)
Someone you thought you could trust with a personal problem has let you down, but you’re about to realise that they’ve actually done you a huge favour. Listen don’t talk and you’ll see why.

LIBRA (September 24th-October 23rd)
Your energy levels are not what they should be and you find it impossible to know what to do to carry out all the promises you have made the close ones in your life. Admitting now what can’t be done takes the pressure off.

SCORPIO (October 24th-November 22nd)
You’re pushing for things you don’t even know if you want. Part of the reason you appear to be doing this, is to find out how far others will go for you. The temptation to call an ex is also strong.

SAGITTARIUS (November 23rd-December 21st)
The little things you say and do over the next few days are more important than you will realise. Try to stick to plans and promises and show those you care for the support they need. You’re building the base which was lacking last year.

CAPRICORN (December 22nd-January 20th)
Hard times finally look as if they will be a thing of the past. It took some doing but you are finally managing to cut ties with those who only ever brought you down. A new attraction can and will put the spring back in your step.

AQUARIUS (January 21st-February 19th)
Some of the signs really are just talking for the sake of it, so believe nothing of what you hear and only half of what you see today. Fun times link to you saying yes to the last-minute invites.
PISCES (February 20th-March 20th)
Dare to be honest. It’s what can get you the happiness you desire in your life. Time spent with people from your past over the coming days can prove to you how very far you’ve come.

If You Were Born Today, March 5

There is a restless quality to you that is unmistakable, and this can lead you to your share of adventures, but it can also get you into trouble at times! You easily feel stifled and bored by routine, so that is essential that you choose a life path that allows you the freedom to grow and learn. You may move forward prematurely, failing to complete projects you start, until you discover that your talents lie in inspirational, motivational, and other such fields. You are enthusiastic, versatile, and very humorous. Famous people born today: Rex Harrison, Chuck Baldwin, Andy Gibb, Eva Mendes.

Your Birthday Year Forecast:

With the Sun and Moon in harmony in your Solar Return chart, the year ahead should be satisfying and balanced overall. You are in comfortable demand and personally popular, and you are able to achieve a decent balance between work and play; personal and professional life. For the most part, you are on top of your game this year, and positive connections with others can be made fairly easily. With the ability to handle your emotions successfully, there is less stress on both your mind and body. Your self-confidence and positive attitude will reward you!

Neptune transits conjunct your Sun this year, and your tastes and desires are changing and evolving. The need to “get away from it all,” and for some peace and quiet now and again, continues to be strong. A more sensitive, and even mysterious, persona is projected during this period of your life, and this can attract pleasantly unusual circumstances (and people) into your life. You will want to reserve time alone — away from the hectic pace of life — for reflection and meditation. Watch for excessive escapist tendencies, but also find ways to honor your need for more downtime or circumstances may seem to conspire to bring this into your life in possibly unwanted ways.

Some may find the influence of Sun-Neptune confusing, however, because they don’t know exactly where they are headed. A noncommittal attitude in your personal life could leave people in your life feeling frustrated with you as you attempt to find yourself. If this is the case, it would be wise to cut yourself some slack (not too much!). During this time, you may be unsure where to direct your willpower. You could be undergoing confusion about what you want from life, where you are headed, and how to go about satisfying your ego. There is a reason behind this “identity crisis” — you are learning to let go of ego attachments. This can be a creative, spiritual, and poetic time, but it might also be a time when you fall prey to impractical schemes and plans or neglect important responsibilities.

This is a powerful year for socializing, communicating, and negotiating. You’re hungry to learn from your experiences and relationships. A stronger desire to grow, heal, and improve is with you in the period ahead, and you may be attracted to alternative ways of healing and living. You may be drawn to working through problems, fears, and insecurities with a desire to repair. It’s a definite time for building trust in relationships, and for seeing potential in others.

Something big is in the works regarding your love life. You’ll have a chance to heal old wounds with regards to love this year. You’re also bound to find new ways of making money.

Pleasing circumstances surrounding your love life, finances, and creative pursuits are in store this year. You are more generous, and others return the favor. You might receive financial backing or special gifts in the period ahead. You seek a little more from your love life and you are likely to receive it. Some of you could fall in love this year, or existing relationships are enhanced. Adventure-seeking is a theme.

Bursts of creativity and energy emerge at seemingly perfect times and help you to further your goals. Healthy risk-taking is likely again this year, as you are more able to spot an opportunity when you see one. You are progressive, growth-oriented, and ready to take the initiative when the moment feels right.

This is also a fine period for expanding your connections, contacts, creative pursuits, and romantic relationships. Relationships benefit from increased generosity and goodwill. You’re more inclined than usual to indulge, shop, socialize, and enjoy yourself this year. Whether it’s a hobby, person, or pursuit, this is a good time for discovering what makes you happy.

This is a powerful period for your social and creative life and a particularly busy time for relationships. You can gain quite a following for your ideas. It’s bound to be a time that’s good for optimism and many new ideas and interests. There is some tendency to speak or act too soon which should probably be tamed. As well, discipline may be lacking from time to time this year. Otherwise, it’s a period for much inventiveness and new, exciting experiences.

2018 is a Number One year for you. Ruled by the Sun. This is a year of action. The seeds you plant now, you will reap later. Others might find you less sociable, as you are busier than ever and you focus on your activities and your needs. Still, you are outgoing and your initiative is stronger than ever. Advice – Stand alone, take action, start fresh, express independence.

2019 will be a Number Two year for you. Ruled by the Moon. This is a year of potential companionship. It is a quiet, gentle, and mostly harmonious year that is less active than other years. Instead, you are more responsive to the needs of others. If you are patient and open yourself up in a gentle manner, you will attract both things and people. This is an excellent year in which to build and develop for the future. Advice – be patient, be receptive, enjoy the peace, collect.

From The Astrology Room

ARIES (March 21st-April 20th)
New adventures await you Aries you just have to ensure that you keep moving forward and don’t allow someone from your past to drag you back to a situation which never could and never will make you truly happy.

TAURUS (April 21st-May 21st)
The home comes under the spotlight and you begin to see with ease what needs to be done to make your home a calmer and nicer place to be. Someone has an announcement and you can say you’re shocked, but I know you won’t really be.

GEMINI (May 22nd-June 21st)
You know what you want and yet you are allowing everyone to talk you out of your dreams. Come on Gemini, remember what sign you are. Events you are offered invites to should be accepted.

CANCER (June 22nd-July 23rd)
Some confusing aspects have seen you changing your mind and have you feeling unsure whether you really want the things you said you did as you entered 2018. Slow your pace and feel your way through the coming days.

LEO (July 24th-August 23rd)
You know Leo, successful people have fear, they have doubts and they have worries. Just don’t let a surge of emotions stop you from continuing on your journey. You’re about to reach an important milestone.

VIRGO (August 24th-September 23rd)
Relaxation is key to you making the right choices in the days ahead. You could not see the wood for the trees so to speak, because you were so stressed last week. Making time for yourself helps you to see what must happen next.

LIBRA (September 24th-October 23rd)
Never let anyone dull your sparkle. If they do then move on. They’ll only be toxic for your soul if you don’t. Money you lay out to make your home a more secure place, is money well spent.

SCORPIO (October 24th-November 22nd)
A confused mind is making it hard for you to know who your loyalty should lie with. Just look at the plain facts and you will soon see who has been supporting you and who has been bringing you down.

SAGITTARIUS (November 23rd-December 21st)
Many of you archers are doing things to purposely upset what you have. You want to get a reaction from close ones to see how far you can push them. Know what your limits must be, or you could end up creating a problem where there was not one.

CAPRICORN (December 22nd-January 20th)
There is a feeling that you are being bullied or pushed into things you did not choose for yourself. Say no to what you don’t want while Mars is giving you the staying power to stick to your beliefs.

AQUARIUS (January 21st-February 19th)
Someone seems to think you owe them a favour, but I have to disagree. Your involvement with a certain person is over and needs to remain that way. Gambles in love can and will pay off in your favour.

PISCES (February 20th-March 20th)
Family prove hard work and may be making demands which you find selfish and unfair. Luckily Mercury gives you the ability to talk others round. Say what needed to be said weeks ago Pisces.
