The Sky This Week from May 24 to June 2

By Richard Talcott  |  Published: Friday, May 24, 2019

Jupiter’s largest moon seemingly disappears as it slides into the giant planet’s shadow to start the week, while a waning crescent Moon passes near Venus to wrap it up.

Head outside late this evening and you can’t miss Jupiter. The giant planet rises before 10 p.m. local daylight time and climbs highest in the south around 2 a.m. Jupiter shines at magnitude –2.6, which makes it the brightest point of light in the sky until Venus rises in morning twilight. The planet currently resides among the much dimmer background stars of the constellation Ophiuchus the Serpent-bearer. A telescope reveals dramatic cloud features on the gas giant’s 46″-diameter disk as well as the four bright Galilean moons. And tonight provides a rare opportunity to see the solar system’s largest satellite disappear. As Jupiter rises, Ganymede appears west of the planet. If you keep watching, however, you’ll see the moon slowly fade from view. At 1:41 a.m. EDT, Ganymede starts to enter Jupiter’s shadow while it is still 16″ from the planet’s limb. The moon is so big that it takes 14 minutes to disappear completely.

Saturday, May 25
Binoculars open a world of wonders invisible to the naked eye. Did you realize you could see several galaxies without resorting to a telescope? One of the spring sky’s best is the Blackeye Galaxy (M64) in Coma Berenices. This constellation stands high in the south once darkness falls. The 8th-magnitude spiral galaxy appears about 1° northeast of the 5th-magnitude star 35 Comae Berenices. M64 is barely in range of 50mm binoculars under a dark sky, although you’ll need 80mm or larger binocs or a telescope to spot the dark dust lane that gives the galaxy its “black eye.”

Sunday, May 26
Last Quarter Moon occurs at 12:34 p.m. EDT. When it rises around 2:30 a.m. local daylight time tomorrow morning, it will appear slightly less than half-lit. Earth’s only natural satellite then appears against the background stars of Aquarius the Water-bearer

Greetings Sisters and Brothers

Why Lady Beltane takes Saturdays off from posting, answering comments and emails too. There are a few reasons the main one being I spend so much time on the computer to research other websites for information on different paths of paganism to present to the students in Coven Life’s different Witchcraft courses and now for cool and informative things for WOTC that I physically need one day I do not have to sit in my desk chair. Doing the research is a blessing to me as I learn more about the traditions I do and do not incorporate in my own solitary practice and as a teacher or mentor to those newer to The Craft then most of us it is an honor to learn new things and past them on to you and/or students on CL. So I make Saturdays a no screne time day the only exception once in a while is my Kindle if I’m reading a really good novel. Another reason is with having Fibromyalgia and somewhat bad arthritis through out my body I need a day to just kick back in another position besides sitting in my desk chair fingers typing away. I also have clinical depression and an anxiety disorder. So with all of these negative things that my physical body has, along with the mental, and emotional problems I need a day to hibernate, even my cell/mobile phone is shut off, to cleanse myself of all pain and any negative energy I have allowed to build up within me then I refill myself with positive emotions, be in a better place spiritualy, and not physically hurt so much. Now that the weather is warmer I also use the day to tend my gardens and just sit outside in my backyard watching my 2 canine familiars, Cleopatra a 10-year-old Min Pin and Starbabie a 7-year-old Long Hair Chihuahua, romp around and/or lay around soaking up vitamin D from Ra/the Sun. My husband drives me on errands I cannot walk to as I don’t drive. It’s a day of rejuvenation and family along with rest and no TV, Computers, Cell/Mobile plPhones interrupting me.

If you have a question or need to talk with me before Sunday put “Urgent” in the subject line because I check for “urgent” emails one time on Saturdays about 1:00 PM CT and will answer those. If it is something that can wait for one day please let it.

The only exception to this self imposed rule is the 2nd Saturday of every month when I host an Open Chat in Coven Life’s chatroom, informattion for the Open Chats can be found by clicking on Coven Life in WOTC’S menu than look for a box on the right-hand side of the Homepage for Coven Life’s Events. That week I take Sunday off.

Starting next Saturday I will have some posts scheduled to go live almost every Saturday.

Now I need to go enjoy Ra’s beautiful warmth and rejuvenation before it starts raining for about the 10th in a row. I wish each of you a weekend full of positive happenings and seeing the beauty of Mother Earth and all living thing upon her. Remember those small trash bags if you go for a walk, hike, or bicycle ride. We are the stewards that set the example for those who would harm her.

Blessed be dear ones.

Sisters and Brothers Time to Share Your Knowledge on whatever Pagan Path You Follow

I made a comment recently to a lovely women, Celtictreasure, suggesting she write a short article whatever topic of The Craft calls to her. As I said to her it does not matter if you have been studying a pagan path for 1 week or like me over 40 years we all have knowledge to share with our pagan sisters and brothers from all traditions and paths.

I would love to start putting up a post every Saturday morning from one of you. It can be about the tradition or traditions or path you follow, a poem, witchy joke, etc. THE ONLY RULE AND IT HAS TO BE FOLLOWED OR I CAN BE SUED BECAUSE OF COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT LAWS- If you are using infomormation someone else published via a website, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram , Pintrest or any where else on the internet you absolutely have to include the link you got the quote from. If what you are sharing comes from an e-book, hardbound or paperback book you have to include the authors name, the coptright year, and the page or pages you took the information from. IF YOU DO NOT INCLUDE THESE ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS,  IF NEEDED, I WILL NOT CONSIDER YOUR ARTICLE FOR PUBLICATION.

If what you submit to me is an original article let me know. If I  feel what you submitted would be good for novice witches I will post it on Coven Life’s website also.

You write the post have it emailed to me at ladybeltane@aol.com by 12:00 PM CT so I can review it and let you know if any editing needs to be done. Than have the final draft of the post along with the name you want to use for you to get credit for your time and work. If you use your given name I will only post your first name.

Any questions please leave them in the comments section and I will answer them as soon as I  am able to. By putting the question here instead of emailing we can create a Q&A section other people can use. Articles will be posted in the order that they are recieved in my inbox. I’m so looking forward to the first  submission!!!

The Sun in Gemini
The tug between opposite ideas and the need for answers are very strong influences while the Sun crosses Gemini. Getting things done may prove to be a bit more challenging than it is in other periods. Staying focused on goals and avoiding impulsive behavior could be difficult. The desire to lead is likely to be somewhat dull. Creativity and the pursuit of truth are at an apex. Enjoyable socializing and effective communication are positive byproducts of the Sun’s current position. A light-hearted spirit is pervasive.

Sun Sextile or Trine Moon
Keeping a healthy balance between autonomy and the need for personal relationships is very important at this time. The degree of one’s success may be significantly increased by maintaining healthy relationships with family members and friends.

Sun Conjunt Mercury
One’s ears may be closed to the advice of others.

Moon In Aquarius
Friendships are likely to become stronger, but deeper emotional relationships may be a little “subdued.” Overly effusive behavior and negative behavior like jealousy are certain to meet with ridicule and intolerance.

Moon Sextile or Trine Mercury
Insight into the psychological motivation behind individual’s behavior is very strong at this time.

Moon Opposition or Square Venus
Passions may run high during this aspect. Many are likely to desire deeper emotional relationships, but have difficulty defining the form they would like these powerful emotional bonds to take.

Moon Opposition or Square Uranus
The need for adventure and risk is likely to be heightened during this aspect. Many will be so influenced by the powers of this aspect that taking on new challenges may become a short term addiction.

Mercury In Gemini
Curiosity and the need to know everything possible will influence behavior. Mental challenges are likely to be addressed with gusto. Intellectual powers are at a peak.
Venus In Taurus
Emotions run deep and desire to express one’s love will influence behavior. The need to express one’s love both physically and spiritually is heightened. Jealousy may be a problem if one allows their emotions to run wild. Music and art are likely to be very attractive at this time.

Venus Conjunct Uranus
The need for personal freedom will be very acute in many, and may cause strain in their personal and professional relationships.

Mars In Cancer
Focusing energies on family and friends is favored during this period. Ambition and the drive to succeed may be lacking. Protecting what one has already is likely to be more of a motivator than attaining new goals.

Mars Sextile or Trine Uranus
This is an energizing, empowering aspect that favors those who act decisively. Generally, focusing on short term goals will produce positive results.

Jupiter In Sagittarius
Free thinking may be favored at this time. Life is likely to take on an adventurous air. During this period changes can be made that will favorably affect the future.

Jupiter Opposition or Square Neptune
More idealistic goals are favored during this aspect. Aspirations that emerge this time are likely to be non-traditional, even avant-garde in nature.

Saturn In Capricorn
Extreme Focus on completing tasks at any costs may lead one to sacrifice almost anything to get the job done.

Saturn Sextile or Trine Neptune
Those who take the time to understand the real motives behind the behavior of others are favored during this aspect.

Saturn Conjunct Pluto
Now may not be a good time to be the center of attention. Feeling vulnerable may make many withdraw emotionally and socially.

Uranus In Taurus
The astrological influence of Uranus is measured in increments of 7 years. What this means is that the effects of Uranus influence an entire generation. Day to day the Uranian influence may be imperceptible, but when the period is viewed as a whole the impact of Uranus is likely to be strikingly apparent.

This influence generates enlightened thinking and a drive to make everyday life better for all. A warm-hearted, romantic and acutely sensual spirit will be prominent as well.

Neptune In Pisces
Because Neptune takes approximately 14 years to move across Pisces its day to day influence may be imperceptible, but when the period is viewed as a whole the impact of Neptune in Pisces is likely to be strikingly apparent.

Gentleness, creativity, and the pursuit of spiritual truth are strong influences at this time. Many may find mysticism and unorthodox religions very attractive.

Neptune Trine Pluto
The exploration of spiritual issues is favored during this aspect. Introspection should lead many to better understand the underlying motives behind their behavior.

Pluto In Capricorn
Because Pluto takes approximately 15 years to move across Capricorn its day to day influence may be imperceptible, but when the period is viewed as a whole the impact of Pluto in Capricorn is likely to be strikingly apparent.

Strong economic gains can be made during this period. Pluto in Capricorn favors those who are able to make logical decisions and devise pragmatic solutions to the challenges before them

A Way to Honor Your Mother and/or Father

High Priestess Raven Spirit Walker's avatarEnchanted Circle of Witches®

I really do not know if every country sets aside one day a year to honor a person’s mother and/or father.

A tip to have candles burn longer and drop less– Out the candles in your freezer. Leave them in there until the morning of the day or night you will use it. Always let candle come to room temperature especially if they are in a glass container. I can tell you first hand if you light the candle, especially any size pillar or one in a glass container, they will explode. I had a few blisters on my face and eyelids from a regular, non-empowered ritual, candle exploding and the wax was very difficult to get out of my couch and rug. Please keep in mind safety first When using any size or shape candle for any reason.

The Psychology of Magic

This comes from the book Witchcraft an Alternative Path by Ann Moura copyright 2003, pages 114-116.

The Psychology of Magic

“Because time is fluid in Witchcraft, seen as a spiral that may be accessed at any point, it is not difficult to work magic with the future results in mind. The subconscious mind is accessed for magical work, and it is also the place where all of the activities of daily life first take place. Because of how the neural transmitters function, and the distance run by nerve impulses, all things known by the conscious mind actually take place earlier and are only remembered consciously. In other words, there is a time lag between an event and a person’s cognitive awareness of that event. This is why a person may not realize the bath water is too hot until after being in it a few moments — it just takes a while to register on the conscious mind. Meanwhile, the subconscious mind is already aware of the temperature. Witches practice opening the communication channel with the subconscious mind, so that in the tub example, a Witch would be aware before stepping into the tub that it is too hot. Most people simply go through life without noticing discrepancy of time, except when something called deja vu (“already seen”) occurs, and then they wonder why a place or event seems so familiar or has happened before. This is a clue that time does indeed spiral and you dip into it at will.

Since in deja vu experience you seem to know in advance what will happen, if only a short time, you can alter the event. What may be somewhat amusing is the reaction of other people involved in the event. Since they are not connectively using the subconscious mind and not aware as quickly as yourself, you may find they want to react to something that has not happened, giving them a puzzled pause. As an example, I once averted a disastrous dinner argument by keeping silent during the experience when I knew that I was “supposed” to make an innocent remark, which led to a fight the first time around. When the time came for my remark, I did not make it and the conversation at the table stopped cold, everyone turning to look at me! But I had changed history and the table chat resumed without the argument.

When you start altering the future, you may have multiple deja vus of the same event or experience. The meaning of this is that you ran the course of the event, did not like things turned out, changed it, ran the course again, and still did not like the results, so you are giving it another try or realigning the events prior to the deja vu to make the results more satisfactory. Another aspect, which you will begin to recognize with experience, is that there is a variation in the deja vu from what you knew it once was. That means your prior change has worked, and you are given a second chance with the new arrangement. This facet of time manipulation is characteristic of the Witch’s development of subconscious awareness. Witches are people who have refined their ability to process precognitive stimuli and hold on to it so they are able to then alter events before these even register on the conscious minds of other people.

The fluidity of time makes it possible for you to manipulate it so that you can stretch it out, making certain you are never late to any destination. the raising of energy you are working magic, the conscious mind is silenced or relaxed so the subconscious mind may come forward as the active principle. Doing drumming, breath work, chanting, and dancing during the raising of energy when in the Circle is a way to move yourself into an altered state. Drugs and alcohol are not good for this since these inhibit your awareness. When working magic, the subconscious mind creates the reality, which will then be perceived by the conscious mind.

To be a Witch, you have to be ready to live in multiple layers of reality with multiple worlds (Physical, astral, psychic, spiritual, etc.) since these are what you access when practicing your Craft. These worlds exist and are approached with mediation, astral projection, out of body experience, visits to Otherworld or Underworld, pathworking and spell casting. IN the ritual of casting the Circle, you create a space not only to hold the energy you raise, but one that is apart from the rest of the physical world. When you draw the cosmic lemiscate (Smaller INFINITY 2) over the altar, and say that you are standing between worlds, you say you are “in a place that is not a place, and in a time that is not a time” as a reminder for the subconscious mind to be open. You stand at the nexus of other worlds, where the magic you conduct may travel to affect your physical world.

Ogham Reading for Today

Luis-Rowan

The Rowan or mountain ash tree has long been a magical tree in much of European folklore. It protects one from malevolent beings; dark magic and can ward off any harm or bad luck that may befall an individual. The key points to remember with the letter Luis are protection, refuge, white magic, and safe journeys.

Fortune – Drawing this Ogham is a sign to flush all negativity from your life. Protect yourself mentally and physically from bad vibes!

Ailm-Pine

While pine is not a very durable wood for building, it is suitable for burning and keeping us warm. In modern times it has gained more uses, but the fragrance of the wood is what got the most attention many years ago. Because of that Ailm has become associated with purification, atonement, and regeneration. Allow the symbol and smoke of the pine to cleanse your heart and soul.

Fortune – New projects are on the horizon! They will cleanse and purify your soul and take you in a great direction!

Idho-Yew

In the Celtic religion the yew tree is a symbol of eternal life. Yew is often found in churchyards across Europe, and the oldest known wood artifact is a yew spearhead dating over 450,000 years old. Idho has a long and ancient connection with man, making it symbolic of death and renewal. The yew is a gateway for the dying before they find eternal life. Drawing this letter does not imply physical death, however it does show a great change is about to occur in life!

Fortune – This Ogham signifies death. Not in the literal sense but metaphorically it is time to let go or move on from something important. The rebirth will be grand!

Greetings on This COnfusing Monday Morning

th

Yes, I am still trying to wrap my head around the fact that I own WOTC so there might not be any regular daily posts until later on this week. Please read on for more information on how I plan on running WOTC, no worries no major changes why try to fix something that definitely is not broke, or what some might call me rambling…lol

As you might know, today is my first day of owning the marvelous website it took our beloved Lady Abyss years to build up. So I need your help to keep this site up to her high standards of bringing her brothers, sisters, and other readers things they want to read and/or use in their practice. I ask that you bear with me the first couple of weeks until I get my feet back on the ground because my broomstick and I are in the clouds this morning because of the honor bestowed upon me by Lady Abyss selling me her site. SHe emailed me a list about 6 inches long of the websites WOTC is allowed to use things from and link back to, so I need time to look at all of those sites. While I have been posting on WOTC on and off for about 5 or 6 years it was my own stuff I posted and not the day to day things. But with your help and patience, I will be back to posting divination things on a rotating base along with other I hope informative and interesting articles for you. As the picture for WOTC says I am the founder and owner of Coven Life, covenlife.co, which some of you know of from attending Esbat and/or Sabbat gatherings through and I with the help of my right-hand Witch, Priestess Hypatia, have courses for the novice, adept, and priest/priestess level witches. So I have two websites to post to and oversee what others post on them.

Goddess Knowledge – Venus

Venus is the Roman goddess of grace and love, called Aphrodite by the Greeks. She ever from an early Italian nature goddess, a bringer of spring blooms and vines, a goddess of growth and a beauty of nature. The goddess of desire, Venus was the irresistible personification of both physical and spiritual love. She gave her name to the second planet of dawn and dusk, as did her sister goddess, Inanna (Surmeria) and IsBear (Babylonia).

The story of Venus’s birth tells how she arosed, naked, from the sea, the source of all life (primarily creation) and a symbol of both the collective unconscious and eternity. It is a wonderful image for the emergence of a young woman into her full femininity. Venus is a striking affirmation of the Love of beauty and the pleasure of the senses. Risen from the sea, she is a guide through both the stormy and calm waters of it physical desires and emotions.

Can Men Be Part of Wicca?

Is there a place for men in Wicca?

I’m always surprised when people ask that, but it seems a fairly common misconception.

Wicca is certainly not just for women! There are plenty of men in Wicca, and plenty of philosophical room for men as well.

Goddess Knowledge – Spider Woman

Spider Woman is an important goddess among many south-western Native American tribes. Though occasionally destructive, she is nearly always portrayed as a beneficent, The Keresan Spider Woman created everything there is by thinking, dreaming, or naming; she taught the people how to plant seeds. Cherokee Grandmother spider brought people the sun and fire; she taught them pottery, weaving,m and how to make ceremonial blessings. Spider Woman is responsible for bringing fire among the Pueblo, Tewa, and Kiwa tribes. A spider woman named Bliku, found in the Indian subcontinent, also brought fire and light. For the Hopi, Spider Woman is a creator who helped people during their emergence, created the moon, has the power to give and take life, and is connected to hunting and agriculture.

SPider WOman is a reminder that good comes from everywhere. Even the lowly spider, sometimes dismissed as irrelevant, has the power to create and teach

Can There Be Witches That Are Also Christians?

This is a subject that has been hotly debated since Christianity first became an accepted religion and the debate I feel that will never have a definite answer.

Some people believe they can at least partially combine Christianity and Paganism usually by still thinking of Jesus as a  god or because many Christians already worship a triple god “the father, son, holy ghost or spirit” and saints to help them with certain things so jumping to a belief in a Triple Goddess and other goddesses isn’t that big of a jump. Many never call upon other gods than those they already believe in. Mostly the Christians that combine The Craft and Christianity are just bring the feminine divine back into their lives.

I have found over the years that the two were combined very early in the ancient history of religions. For example “In a way, Gnosticism is the best example of Hellenic Syncretism” ( see links below for more information). Another example of Christianity and Paganism crossing over is with two major holidays Easter and Ostara also Christmas and Yule. The early Christians trying to convert pagans purposely put the resurrection of Jesus close to Yule the Pagans celebration of the birth of Odin/the Oak King and the coming of the Maiden or spring time of year. So by putting Jesus birth in the wrong season, the Christians could use it to say something like . “See the son of our God is born now also.”

Let me interject here that it has been scientifically proven that the man known for the last 2056 years, give or take a year or two, as Jesus Christ or Jesus of Nazareth or by other names as well was born not born in the winter. There is a debate ongoing in the scientific community over which season and what exact year he was born. (Click the link below for more information) These are not the only holidays that Christians purposely used to convert pagans almost any Sabbat on the Wheel of the Year has a Christian holy day of some sort close to it or even on the same date. (Click on the link below for more information)

I have included a link for YouTube that presents the views of people who say they are Christian WItches.

Now my personal view is how can a person believe that there is a son of God that will cleanse them of all the wrongs they have done to others and/or themselves also believe in the Wicce Rede of “Do as ye will, lest it harm none.” and if you do harm someone with words and/or actions you need to take responsibility for the wrong and apologize or whatever to make what happened a thing of this past and most importantly forgive yourself. We as pagans do not ask a god or goddess to take away our wrongdoings to be free of them we free ourselves of the wrongs we have done. How can a person practice a religion that does not believe in a heaven or hell or satan when that is part of the core of Christianity? Part of the Christian dogma is the 10 commandments of which the first one is “Thou shall have no other God before me.” So does this mean a Christian Witch is breaking one of the main rules of Christianity if they use a different god and/or goddess for a spell and/or ritual? And if they do break the commandment do they ask the son, Jesus, of their one God to forgive them for doing so? Christians are also not supposed to worship idols (which if you go into some of the different denominations of the Christian churches you could see Jesus hanging dead from a cross and other statues of saints. Are they not all ready worshiping idols when they pray to them asking for their help with interceding with God to bring about something in their life? In my personal opinion and also from trying to meld Christianity and Paganism some may be able to justify what they are doing but I could not keep denying the feminine part of the dual nature of the Devine.

I have included in this post a link to a general search on how witches are talked about in all the Christian Bibles. Not one of them is a positive statement toward witchcraft. In fact, all of the passages condemn witchcraft in one way or another. So how can a Christian not follow the book that is supposed to be a guide in how they should live their lives? How can they practice Witchcraft when it is expressly forbidden by the commandments and other passages of the book their faith has been built on?

I have tried to give you enough information to form your own opinion on whether or not a Christian can also be a Witch that practices Witchcraft. So I would like your viewpoint on whether a person can mix Christianity with Witchcraft/Paganism?

Goddess Knowledge – The Sphinx

The Sphinx is an ancient moon goddess, the goddess of birth and death. Part animal, part human, she remains connected to her deep instinctual nature. Most stories empathize her aspect as a death goddess who carries the dead to the underworld. Often portrayed as a lion, she shares in the solar and regal symbolism of that animal. Her role as an oracular deity, given to enigma and riddles, points to her as the keeper of the great mystery. A symbol of strength, wisdom, and royal power, she reminds us that nothing comes to creation without some destruction and that sometimes to solve a mystery we must enter the darkness. This image reminds us that there is beauty even in the heart of that which terrifies.
