The Charge of the Crone

Wiccan Priestess The Charge of the Crone

Hear the words of the Dark Goddess who stands within thecrossroads,
whose torch illuminates the Underworld:

I am the Queen of magic and the Dark of the Moon, hidden in the deepest night.
I am the mystery of the Otherworld and the fear that coils about your heart in the time of your trials.
I am the soul of nature that gives form to the universe;
it is I who awaits you at the end of the spiral dance.
Most ancient among gods and mortals,
let my worship be within the heart that has truly tasted life,
for behold all acts of magic and art are my pleasure and my greatest ritual is love itself.
Therefore let there be beauty in your strength, compassion in your wrath,
power in your humility, and discipline balanced through mirth and reverence.
You who seek to remove my veil and behold my true face,
know that all your questing and efforts are for nothing,
and all your lust and desires shall avail you not at all.
For unless you know my mystery, look wherever you will,
it will elude you, for it is written within you and nowhere else.
For behold, I have ever been with you, from the very beginning,
the comforting hand that nurtured you in the dawn of life,
and the loving embrace that awaits you at the end of each life,
for I am that which is attained at the end of the dance,
and I am the womb of new beginnings as yet unimagined and unknown.

Celebrating Legends, Folklore & Spirituality 365 Days a Year for February 17th -Quirinalia and The Feast of Fools

Wiccan February 17th

Quirinalia and The Feast of Fools

Quirinalia was a first fruits festival that honored Quirinus, the name given by the Romans to the deified Romulus. As a divinity, Quirinus ranked as one of Rome’s most important patrons, along with Mars, Jupiter, and Juno. Early Rome was divided into 30 curiae, each of which had its own day in February for the performing of the Fornacalia, or first-fruits offering to Ceres of toasted emmer-wheat. As the city expanded, the curiae were displaced by the new divisions known as tribus. As a result, many people did not know which curiae they belonged to. Because of the confusion they were allowed to make the sacrifice on the Quirinalia, which came to be called The Feast of Fools.

The Witches Magick for Friday, February 17th – Banish Negative Forms From Your Home

Wiccan PriestessBanish Negative Forms From Your Home

Begin with a purification bath. Light the twin candles on the altar and burn a protective and/or cleansing incense. Fill your chalice with fresh water (be sure to consecrate it) and blessed salt. Kneel or assume the Goddess position as you say:

“Naked come I into this sanctuary
With love and faith
From those who have gone before.
Innocent am I in understanding
Holy and pure in my love of all good and blessed things.
Supreme Goddess, ruler of light,
Lord of all
Hear my prayer,
Help me now to dispell this thing of unholiness
This creature of darkness,
Who dooms itself to shame and unhappiness.
Save him if it is thy will to do so.
Send him to the light.
Mercy is the song I sing;
Forgiveness the word most precious.
In thy everlasting grace I say this.
In humility I ask this.
So mote it be.”

Take up the chalice of salt-water, face the east wall, dip your fingers
intothe water, raise your hand and say:

“Powers of the East
Powers of the daystar rising
And all fresh beginnings
I purify you with salt and with water
For good vibrations of friendship warmth and love.”

Then sprinkle some extra water and proceed to the south. Say:

“Powers of the South
Powers of the summer sun
Which warms our bodies and our minds
I purify you with salt and with water
For good vibrations of friendship, warmth and love.”

Repeat in the west:

“Powers of the West
Powers of the purifying and cleansing waters
From which all life comes.
I purify you with salt and with water
For good vibrations of friendship, warmth and love.”

Repeat in the north:

“Powers of the North
Powers of the earth, the ground
On which we stand.
I purify you with salt and with water
For good vibrations of friendship, warmth and love.”

Then proceed around the room sprinkling water over all the thresholds, windows, and doorways and in all corners. REPEAT IN EVERY ROOM.

Add more incense to the burner, take up, and do the same thing, using the same verses substituting “fire and air” in place of “salt and water.” As before, proceed around the room censing all the thresholds, windows, doorways, and in all corners. REPEAT IN EVERY ROOM.

Take the fire candle (or a candle for this purpose) and your athame and, starting at the door or entrance, walk slowly CLOCKWISE through the house, through each room pausing at each door, window, and mirror and moving the candle across it, also pentagraming each window, doorway, and mirror with the athame. Proceed room by room spiraling clockwise. All the while chant the following:

“By the One Power
I hereby consecrate this space
To the Goddess and the God,
According to free will
And for the good of all;
I hereby release,
In all time and all space,
Any negative cause, effect, manifestation, form or essence,
Any negative event, thought, energy, idea or vibration,
And transform it to
And replace it with
Only positive, joyous good
In keeping with the Universal harmonies
Of the Goddess and the God.
This space is divinely protected
This space is perfectly safe.
Nothing and no one can enter this space
Unless I (or my loved ones) allow them to.
This space is sacred
Consecrated and dedicated to positive living
For myself and my loved ones
And for the work of positive magic.
No harm can come to this space, or anyone in it.”

As you draw each pentagram say:

“Only good can enter here
No negatives can enter
All harm is sealed out.”

When you are back at the entry point conclude:

“Love lives here
Health lives here
Abundance lives here
(Name self and loved ones) live here
We claim this space for ourselves, for the mutual good
And so mote it be!”

A Pagan Credo

WiccanA Pagan Credo

We worship the Great Goddess of Nature in all Her resplendent diversity. She is the Birthgiver: the origin of all life on this planet. Threefold are Her ways: Maiden, Mother, and Crone, for She is all Goddesses and all women. We honor Her everywhere: for She is everything; and in everyone: for She is all of us.

We worship the Horned One, Lord of Field and Forest. He is the wild and natural man in each of us: innocent, unfettered, and untamed. He is Lord both of Light and of Darkness: all Gods and all men. Our Lord is both Seed and Sower, Hunter and Prey; the eternal cycle of Sunlight and Shadow. We honor Him everywhere: for He is everything; and in everyone: for He is all of us.

Our Temple is a Sacred Space between the Worlds of Gods and Mortals. We worship in the Circle and in Nature: in our bodies, hearts, and minds. Our Gods are everywhere; but most of all they are within us. Therefore it is both our right and our sacred duty to discover and develop the Being within: for we may claim no greater Power than that of our own Higher Nature.

Our Goddess says: “If what you seek you do not find within yourself, you shall never find it! For behold: I have been with you from the beginning of Time and I am that which you shall embrace at the end of all your desire.”

We are a free people who dare to be Ourselves. To each of us is given the right to choose Good or Evil, Truth or Falsehood, Wisdom or Folly as our own understanding shall determine them. To each of us is given the responsibility for our choices: our thoughts, our words, and our actions.

“An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will,” is, and shall ever be, the greatest of all our Laws.

Friday’s Witchery

Ritual time

Friday’s Witchery

Love magick is a perennial popular topic. However, there is more to this topic than meets the eye. There are many enchanting layers here for us to explore on this day of the week. What about creating a loving home, or producing a loving and nurturing family? What about keeping your intimate relationships vital and on track? How about promoting happy, healthy, and enduring friendships? See, there is more to be considered than just the “You shall be mine…” type of fictional love spell.

Don’t forget that many of the deities associated with Fridays are also parents. So, yes, while this is the day to work on romance, sex, and love spells, there is additional magick to be considered here, which makes Fridays a more well-rounded and bigger opportunity for witchery than many folks ever truly realize. The truest, strongest magick always comes from the heart.

The Witches Guide to Fridays

Wiccan

The Witches Guide to Fridays

Ruler: Freya, Venus

Colors: Emerald green or pink

Power Hours: Sunrise and the 8th, 16th, and 24th hours following.

Key Words: Love, money, health

It is easy to spot the ruler of this day by its name. In the word Friday, we see the roots of the name of the Norse goddess Freya, a goddess of love and fertility, and the most beautiful and propitious of the goddesses thus the verse “Friday’s child is loving and giving.”

In Spanish this day of the week is called Viernes and is derived from the goddess Venus. Matters of love, human interaction, the fluidity of communication, sewing and the creation of artistic garments, household improvement, shopping, and party planning all fall under the aspects of Friday and its ruling planet, Venus.

Friday’s angels are Ariel/Uriel, Rachiel, and Sachiel. Rachiel also concerns himself with human sexuality and is a presiding spirit of the planet Venus.

On Fridays, the hour of sunrise and every eight hours after that are also ruled by Venus, and that makes these times of the day doubly blessed. These four hours are the strongest four hours for conducting ritual.

Check the local newspaper, astrological calendar, or almanac to determine your local sunrise.

Today is Friday, February 17th, We Celebrate…..

Fornacalia (Rome)
FORNAX

Themes: Home; Love

Symbols: Stove; Fire; Wheat

About Fornax: In Rome, Fornax guided the baking of bread, which, being the proverbial staff of life, was no small matter. Today Fornax still stands ready to watch over our hearths, as the goddess of the oven, which is the true heart of any home. If her fires go out, folklore says, warmth among the home’s occupants dwindles soon thereafter.

To Do Today: Fornacalia was the Roman festival of ovens, in which Fornax was invoked by baking wheat breads and other grain-related foods. So think about dusting off your cookbooks, especially any recipes from your family, and start baking! Even people pressed for time can usually make a batch of bread from frozen dough. If you only own a microwave, have no fear—microwaveable soft-dough pretzels are readily available in the freezer section of your supermarket. Or, simpler still, have toast for breakfast this morning to internalize Fornax’s warm emotions. On the other hand, if you’d like to give Fornax a much-needed break from her toils at your place, go out and eat! Just make sure to have some bread as part of the meal to welcome Fornax to your feast. Finally, take any dried bread you have and crumble it up for the birds. Focus on your desire for love and closeness in your life. The birds will convey your wishes to Fornax, the heavens, and the four corners of creation.

Fun Fact Friday: King Tut’s Dagger

Fun Fact Friday: King Tut’s Dagger

Did you know that scientists have recently been able to prove that King Tut’s dagger was actually made from a meteorite? It’s true! The iron dagger, which was found in Tut’s tomb back in the 1920’s, has been analyzed by Italian and Egyptian scientists, using X-ray fluorescence spectrometry. They were able to determine that the iron was meteoritic in origin, by consulting a database of known meteorite metallurgical compositions. They also believe that the ancient Egyptians actually knew that it was from a meteor, and surmise that a newly discovered hieroglyph, which literally translates as “iron of the sky” is a reference to this meteoric material.

The Sky This Week for February 17 to 19

"Winter Magick"The Sky This Week for February 17 to 19

The Winter Hexagon, Venus reaches its greatest brilliancy, and other beautiful things to look for in the sky this week.

By Richard Talcott

Friday, February 17

Venus reaches greatest brilliancy today, when it shines at magnitude –4.8 (magnitude –4.85, to be more precise). That makes it 10 times brighter than the evening sky’s second-brightest object, Jupiter. Although today marks the inner planet’s official peak, it doesn’t dip below magnitude –4.8 until early March.

Jupiter reaches aphelion at 2 a.m. EST. This is the point in its 12-year orbit around the Sun where it lies farthest from our star, at a distance of 507.2 million miles (816.3 million kilometers).

Saturday, February 18

Last Quarter Moon occurs at 2:33 p.m. EST. Look for it either before dawn this morning (when it lies among the background stars of Libra and looks slightly more than half-lit) or after it rises around 1:30 a.m. local time tomorrow (when it stands near the Scorpius-Ophiuchus border and appears as a fat crescent).

If the Last Quarter Moon looks a little smaller to you today, it may not be your imagination. Our satellite reaches apogee, the farthest point in its orbit around Earth, at 4:14 p.m. EST. It then lies 251,268 miles (404,376 kilometers) from Earth’s center.

Sunday, February 19

One of the sky’s largest asterisms — a recognizable pattern of stars separate from a constellation’s form — occupies center stage on February evenings. To trace the so-called Winter Hexagon, start with southern Orion’s luminary, Rigel. From there, the hexagon makes a clockwise loop. The second stop is brilliant Sirius in Canis Major. Next, pick up Procyon in the faint constellation Canis Minor, then the twins Castor and Pollux in Gemini, followed by Capella in Auriga, Aldebaran in Taurus, and finally back to Rigel.
