Hopi Kachina Dance

Celebrated annually, the Hopi Kachina Dances commemorate the Kachina-supernatural beings that help insure the survival of the tribe. The Kachina are believed to be ancient spirits that guide and protect the Hopi people. It is believed that the dances and accompanying religious ceremonies are what bring the rain that will heal the entire community. The ceremonies usually begin at sunrise and end at sunset, when it is believed the Kachina return to the realm of the spirit.
