Monday, Monday…..

Monday is ruled by the moon. Magical work planned for a Monday should involve aspects of the Goddess and any rites to honor her. In Wicca, the phases of the moon are revered as natural symbols of the different phases of womanhood. Spells and rituals invoking change are appropriate for a Monday. The moon rules the tides, so spells involving water are also appropriate for this time. Think of purification and cleansing work that you may need to do. Even consecrating your chalice would be an appropriate work for a Monday. Meditate on the aspects of the Greek maiden huntress, Artemis, twin sister of Apollo, or on her Roman counterpart, Diana of the silver bow. The lunar energy will bless your work if you acknowledge it correctly.

About Akerbeltz: This Basque goddess attends the human body by protecting it from disease, encouraging health, and offering healing when needed, especially when we overdo summer activities! Being a goddess of earth and nature too, she sometimes appears as a rainbow, a bridge that takes us from being under the weather to overcoming circumstances.

To Do Today: The Tabuleiros has been celebrated for six hundred years in Portugal by honoring the harvest, giving thanks to the goddess for her providence, and making donations to charitable organizations. The highlight of the day is a parade in which people wear huge headdresses covered with bread, flowers, and doves—symbols of Akerbeltz’s continued sustenance, beauty, and peace. These are retained by the wearer through the year to keep Akerbeltz close by, warding off sickness. A simpler approach for us might be to get a small rainbow refrigerator magnet or window piece that reflects this goddess’s beauty throughout our home to keep everyone therein well and content.

Also, give a little something to someone in need today. Doing good deeds for others pleases Akerbeltz because it makes them healthier in spirit. She will bless you for your efforts with improved well-being, if only that of the heart.

Brilliant Jupiter remains a beacon in the western sky after sunset. It appears nearly 20° high an hour after sunset and doesn’t dip below the horizon until nearly 11 p.m. local daylight time. Jupiter shines at magnitude –1.8 against the backdrop of southern Leo the Lion. The giant planet appears equally dazzling through a telescope, which reveals a wealth of atmospheric features on a disk that spans 33″.
