Games to Honor Apollo
The games of Apollo originally took place on July 13, but, because of their popularity, they were gradually extended backward until, by the late Republic, they began on July 6. A Greek God, Apollo was first introduced to the Romans as a God of healing, oracles and prophecies, and hunting and music. Augustus regarded Apollo as his personal deity and built a temple to him in Rome next to his house on the Palatine Hill. It was here that the games to honor Apollo took place each year.
