Explanation: Sit back and watch a star explode. The actual supernova occurred back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth, but images of the spectacular event began arriving last year. Supernova 2015F was discovered in nearby spiral galaxy NGC 2442 by Berto Monard in 2015 March and was unusually bright — enough to be seen with only a small telescope. The pattern of brightness variation indicated a Type Ia supernova — a type of stellar explosion that results when an Earth-size white dwarf gains so much mass that its core crosses the threshold of nuclear fusion, possibly caused by a lower mass white-dwarf companion spiraling into it. Finding and tracking Type Ia supernovae are particularly important because their intrinsic brightness can be calibrated, making their apparent brightness a good measure of their distance — and hence useful toward calibrating the distance scale of the entire universe. The featured video tracked the stellar disruption from before explosion images arrived, as it brightened, and for several months as the fission-powered supernova glow faded. The remnants of SN2015F are now too dim to see without a large telescope. Just yesterday, however, the night sky lit up once again, this time with an even brighter supernova in an even closer galaxy: Centaurus A.

Earth Sky News for February 9th : Go young moon hunting on February 9

Go young moon hunting on February 9

Tonight, look for the young moon. The February, 2016, new moon came to pass on February 8 at 14:39 Universal Time. For us in the United States, that translates to February 8 at 9:39 a.m. EST, 8:39 a.m. CST, 7:39 a.m. MST and 6:39 a.m. PST. So as the sun sets on February 9, the moon will be well over one day old.

Given an unobstructed horizon in the direction of sunset, and a clear sky, the thin waxing crescent moon will appear low in the sky and close to the horizon around one hour (or sooner) after sunset. Because the view is sometimes murky near the horizon, binoculars may come in handy for sweeping for the February 9 young moon near the sunset horizon.

At comparable latitudes in the world’s Eastern Hemisphere – Europe, Africa and Asia – the young moon will exhibit a thinner crescent hovering closer to the horizon. Click here to find out the time of moonset in your sky.

On the average, the moon moves some 13o eastward per day in front of the backdrop stars of the Zodiac.

Meanwhile, as seen from Earth, the sun appears to move one degree eastward per day along the ecliptic. In other words, the moon moves an average 12o east of the sun daily.

For reference, the angular diameter of the sun and moon span about one-half degree of sky.

If you miss the young moon on February 9, try again on February 10 or 11. Day by day, the moon will move farther east of the setting sun, to appear higher in the west after the sun goes down.

By the way, the new moon on February 8 passed to the north of the sun; but one month from now, the moon will swing directly in front of the sun, to stage a total solar eclipse in Indonesia on March 9, 2016.

Bottom line: Given an unobstructed horizon in the direction of sunset, and a clear sky, the thin waxing crescent moon should appear low in the sky and close to the horizon around one hour (or less) after sunset.

Get a Jump on Tomorrow….
Your Daily Horoscopes for Wednesday, February 10th

by Rick Levine

General Horoscope

Although sexy Venus is emotionally reserved while traveling through Capricorn, her auspicious trine to bountiful Jupiter graces us with pleasurable experiences. Meanwhile, an overindulgent Sun-Jupiter alignment lures us past our limits. Although four planets in practical earth signs encourage common sense over passion, pursuing our desires will likely bring satisfaction now. However, the imaginative Pisces Moon makes our dreams sweeter than reality.

Aries Horoscope MAR 21 – APR 19

Remaining upbeat about your contributions is helpful as you move toward your destination, whether you’re making plans to achieve a professional goal or striving to be noticed within your community. Luckily, you may receive assistance from an important ally now that friendly Venus is visiting your 10th House of Public Status. Do your best work without looking back, but be sure to ask for the credit you deserve. Although tangible results will still take a few days to manifest, you could be happily surprised with the outcome if you believe in yourself.

Taurus Horoscope APR 20 – MAY 20

It’s always quite rewarding to be appreciated for who you are. Today may be exceptionally sweet because you’re likely to receive an abundance of positive energy from the buoyant Venus-Jupiter trine. However, it isn’t appropriate to overwhelm people with your exuberance, especially at work. A small touch of self-restraint can help you win the admiration and respect of everyone you encounter. Relax and soak up the good vibes; the finish line is not as close as you think.

Gemini Horoscope MAY 21 – JUN 20

You’re clear about what you want out of a relationship now, especially if you have already been working to redefine your needs. The time is now ripe to make something special happen, and you could blow your chance if you wait too long. Maintain a positive attitude while sharing your feelings, even if you’re unsure about where the conversation will lead. But don’t allow the present moment to pass without following your heart. No risk; no reward.

Cancer Horoscope JUN 21 – JUL 22

You may be emerging from a very trying period, yet you’re still able to overcome any disappointment and rationalize what you want. However, delicious feelings are bubbling up from your subconscious now and tempting you to set aside your newly found emotionally detached objectivity. Stick to the facts as you know them and keep your eyes on the current opportunities because this energetic wave should ultimately bring about a positive transformation.

Leo Horoscope JUL 23 – AUG 22

You might feel like a lazy lion with a stack of excuses to justify your unproductive nature. Nevertheless, you still harbor dreams of being highly successful at your career. Cheerful Jupiter is expanding your 2nd House of Income, and his trine to resourceful Venus in your 6th House of Work resonates with your ambitious plans to accomplish a lot today. Thankfully, you don’t have to prove anything to anyone at all. You deserve a bit of downtime now, so grab it while you have the chance.

Virgo Horoscope AUG 23 – SEP 22

You could wake up in a positive mood, willing to patiently go along with whatever happens today. You realize you’re okay waiting for satisfaction because of the limited potential pleasures that are currently available to you. Even if you try to fight against the changes, your resistance fades quickly once you sink beneath your noisy thoughts and into the less familiar non-verbal world of emotions. Ultimately, your feelings will steer you in the right direction now if you let them.

Libra Horoscope SEP 23 – OCT 22

It feels as if your boundaries are paper thin today, prompting you to withdraw into the world of your feelings so that you don’t have to deal with anyone’s judgement. You really don’t want to waste energy rationalizing what’s in your heart. The positive signals coming from your subconscious are integrally connected with your truth. Your negativity is the biggest thing standing between you and your success. Jump in and follow your instincts before you change your mind.

Scorpio Horoscope OCT 23 – NOV 21

It is in your best interest to temporarily set aside your personal pursuits so you can concentrate on selfless acts of generosity now. But don’t spoil the moment by asking what’s in it for you. If you really need to know the answer, you’re entirely missing the point. Ultimately, if you focus on exhibiting the highest expression of love, the emotional rewards will circle back and touch your heart in ways you would never expect.

Sagittarius Horoscope NOV 22 – DEC 21

You might bury your anger because you don’t want it to interfere with the lovely energy that’s floating through your environment today. Thankfully, it may seem as if everything you touch turns to gold as magnifying Jupiter harmonizes with valuable Venus in your 2nd House of Money. But acquiring riches isn’t your key to happiness. Your willingness to work in service to others is the priceless gift that brings you true spiritual satisfaction.

Capricorn Horoscope DEC 22 – JAN 19

Unfortunately, you can’t hide from your responsibilities today just because good times are calling your name. Thankfully, you can still enjoy yourself by expressing your creative urges within a practical project. The good news is that gracious Venus harmoniously trines joyous Jupiter in your 9th House of Big Ideas, encouraging you to play new games. Adventure awaits if you’re conscientious enough to meet your obligations before leaving work behind.

Aquarius Horoscope JAN 20 – FEB 18

Your feelings are so raw now that you don’t know how to say what you’re thinking without upsetting others. However, maintaining silence isn’t a smart strategy either, since suppressed emotions will find a way to blast their messages to the surface sooner or later. In fact, the longer you pretend everything is fine, the more likely you are to strike out at the wrong target. Fearlessly expressing love transforms obstacles into meaningful learning experiences.

Pisces Horoscope FEB 19 – MAR 20

You’re a bit too eager to please others now with accommodating Venus hard at work in your 11th House of Social Networking. Jolly Jupiter’s current magnanimity makes it easy for you to be a wonderful friend, but you must be cautious about only acknowledging the good news. The power of positive thinking is contagious, but you could take your optimism too far today. Obsessing on potentially negative outcomes isn’t useful, but neither is burying your head in the sand. Work within the constraints of reality for the best results.

2016 Year of the Monkey Horoscopes

2016 Year of the Monkey Horoscopes

Energy, drama, and innovation abound in this Chinese year

Associated with mischief, the Year of the Red Fire Monkey will be one of adventure, curiosity, and innovation. The trend of steady growth and ethical leadership will be abandoned for excitement — expect to see lots of drama in the public sphere throughout 2016! Wild behavior, bold trends, and attention-getting antics characterize Monkey years.

This year will be a great time to solve problems and invent gadgets. Anyone working in a technological or creative field is sure to benefit from this innovative energy. More conservative industries like finance, real estate development, and manufacturing can suffer from fads, hasty decisions, and impulsive behavior, though.

Trickery is often associated with the Monkey year, so it’s very important to get second and even third opinions about major moves. Don’t hesitate to perform background checks on prospective employees and romantic partners. Find out if any complaints have been filed against doctors, lawyers, and contractors before enlisting their services. When in doubt, go with seasoned professionals who have a long history of excellent service. The last thing you want is to be taken for a ride by an unscrupulous opportunist.

With regard to personal improvement programs, furthering education will yield the most impressive results. Undertaking a challenging course of study is strongly advised, especially for scholars who are passionate about their subject.

Because it’s a Red Fire year, this period will be characterized by drama, excitement, and showmanship. The fashion world will opt for bright colors and daring styles. Humorous books, movies, and television shows will prove wildly successful on the entertainment front. Romance will be intense, passionate, and extreme — it’s easy to fall head over heels in love during a Red Fire year. It will be a time of action, not reflection.

Take the motivational energy of this Red Fire year to strive toward something bold. When it comes to dreams, playing it safe will not pay off in the Year of the Red Fire Monkey!

Keep reading for your sign’s Year of the Monkey Horoscope.

Rat Horoscope

You would do very well transitioning to a new career this year. The Year of the Fire Monkey rewards Rats who pursue their heart’s desire on the professional front. Real estate ventures can yield wealth for your resourceful sign. Money can also be gained through legal channels. The Rat should be very protective of their health, taking care to rest frequently and drink lots of water. Working around the clock can cause fever, anxiety, and kidney problems. Take at least one relaxing vacation in 2016.

Ox Horoscope

The calm and collected Ox should prepare for professional challenges in the Year of the Monkey. Instead of resting on your laurels, strive to exceed expectations and improve weak areas. Money will become available through innovation, like offering new products and services. Stretching exercises will promote good health, as well as emotional versatility. Pay careful attention to your digestive system, though, avoiding rich food and excessive alcohol. The Year of the Red Fire Monkey will also benefit shy Oxen who push themselves to join clubs and sports teams.

Tiger Horoscope

Brave, powerful, and stately, the Tiger will be called upon to make order out of chaos in the Year of the Red Fire Monkey. Instead of leaving a job, it’s better for to stay put and implement improvements. Moneymaking prospects won’t be fabulous, so be financially conservative this year. Tigers that further their education will make the most gains. Nervous tension can be a problem for you though; a slow, steady pace wins the race for Tigers in 2016.

Rabbit Horoscope

The Year of the Red Fire Monkey offers plenty of professional excitement for the ambitious Rabbit. Finding a new job or moving into a more rewarding industry could happen for many members of this sign. The artistic Rabbit will draw inspiration from this year’s creative energy. Lovable Rabbits will be even more popular than usual, making the rounds of parties and exclusive get-togethers. But Monkey years can make your sign accident prone; the smart Rabbit will wear safety equipment and avoid risky behavior throughout 2016.

Dragon Horoscope

The vital Dragon will get some exciting career opportunities this year. Your managerial skills will be much needed during the Year of the Red Fire Monkey; if any sign can make order of this chaotic time, it’s yours. An unexpected inheritance, tax refund, or legal settlement can also enrich your coffers in 2016. Digestive problems can wreak havoc with the Dragon’s system, though. Staying away from rich food and excess alcohol is strongly advised — wise Dragons practice moderation in Monkey Years.

Snake Horoscope

The Year of the Red Fire Monkey will present at least one opportunity for career advancement to the cunning Snake. Although this promotion may be small, it’s worth celebrating. Working for a different division or answering to another boss can greatly benefit you. Unemployed Snakes would be wise to donate time and resources to a volunteer organization in 2016. Monkey Years give rewards to philanthropic Snakes. Take it easy at the gym, though. Fire years can tempt Snakes to push their bodies too hard.

Horse Horoscope

The independent Horse will benefit from the creative energy 2016 affords. The Year of the Fire Monkey rewards those who are innovative and daring. If you want to start your own business, launch a new product, or provide an innovative service, go for it. Friends can lead to professional opportunities for you, too — Monkey years are highly social for the Horse. The fast pace of 2016 could cause health problems and anxiety, though, so deep breathing exercises and relaxation techniques are strongly advised.

Sheep Horoscope

The Year of the Red Fire Monkey will urge you shy Sheep to showcase your talent! Professional opportunities are available if you summon your courage and take some risks. Monkey years reward Sheep that are confident, direct, and optimistic. Old friendships could give way to new ones this year. Be open to meeting new people and going out more often. Lastly, a diet primarily comprised of lean protein, whole grains, and fresh produce will keep you healthy throughout frenetic 2016.

Monkey Horoscope

The intelligent Monkey will have a wonderful chance to launch a business venture in 2016. The Year of the Red Fire Monkey will confer professional success for creative, bold, and flexible Monkeys. Extra money won’t be forthcoming this year; it’s a time to plant seeds, not sow them. A quickly expanding social circle will keep you busy — socializing, innovating and brainstorming with others can benefit you now. Playing sports will promote good health, too.

Rooster Horoscope

The Year of the Red Fire Monkey will pose many professional challenges to the capable Rooster. It’s best to practice financial restraint during 2016 — reducing expenses can be result in a handsome nest egg. Too much time on social media sites can be a waste of valuable time during this frivolous year, though. Wise Roosters will channel their energy into health initiatives, since the Year of the Red Fire Monkey can bring renewed vitality your way.

Dog Horoscope

The intense energy of the Year of the Red Fire Monkey may cause other signs to sweat, but not the diligent Dog. Instead, you’ll watch and wait for the perfect career opportunity and then pounce when the time is right. Unemployed Dogs have a great chance of finding steady jobs that offer creative fulfillment. If you’re already employed, you can earn money through freelance work. Proper sleeping habits will also help the Dog make the most of this amusing year.

Pig Horoscope

For the Pig to enjoy a successful Year of the Red Fire Monkey, draw strength from friends. Fortunately, it’s easy for your charming sign to draw influential people into your social network. Professional prospects will stay strong for Pigs that establish themselves as team players. Monkey Years reward creative collaborations. Because 2016 could be extremely busy, take care to factor in plenty of rest time. Running from one activity to another could result in burnout. Naps can prove tremendously therapeutic.

Items needed: White paper; a white enamel bowl; a blue 7-day candle; seven white fresh chrysanthemum flowers; some blue food coloring or anil (a blueing agent).

Begin by writing your desire on the piece of white paper. Place the paper into the bottom of a white enamel bowl. Set the candle on top of the paper in the bowl, fill the bowl with water, and use the food coloring or anil to color it blue. Carefully place each chrysanthemum flower in the bowl of water, light the candle, and make your wish.

Deities Associated With Tuesday – Mars, Roman God of War

Deities Associated With Tuesday

Mars, Roman God of War

Mars was the Roman god of war, and is one of the most commonly worshiped deities in ancient Rome. Because of the nature of Roman society, nearly every healthy patrician male had some connection to the military, so it is logical that Mars was highly revered throughout the Empire.

Early History and Worship
In early incarnations, Mars was a fertility god, and a protector of cattle. As time went on, his role as an earth god expanded to include death and the underworld, and finally battle and war.

He is known as the father of twins Romulus and Remus, by the Vestal virgin Rhea Silvia. As the father of the men who later founded the city, Roman citizens often referred to themselves as “sons of Mars.”
Before going into battle, Roman soldiers often gathered at the temple of Mars Ultor (the avenger) on the Forum Augustus. The military also had a special training center dedicated to Mars, called the Campus Martius, where soldiers drilled and studied.

Festivals and Celebrations
The month of March is named in his honor, and several festivals each year were dedicated to Mars. Each year the Feriae Marti was held, beginning on the Kalends of March and continuing until the 24th.

Dancing priests, called the Salii, performed elaborate rituals over and over again, and a sacred fast took place for the last nine days. The dance of the Salii was complex, and involved a lot of jumping, spinning and chanting. On March 25, the celebration of Mars ended and the fast was broken at the celebration of the Hilaria, in which all the priests partook in an elaborate feast.

During the Suovetaurilia, held every five years, bulls, pigs and sheep were sacrificed in Mars’ honor.
This was part of an elaborate fertility ritual, designed to bring prosperity to the harvest. Cato the Elder wrote that as the sacrifice was made, the following invocation was called out:

“Father Mars, I pray and beseech thee
that thou be gracious and merciful to me,
my house, and my household;
to which intent I have bidden this suovetaurilia
to be led around my land, my ground, my farm;
that thou keep away, ward off, and remove sickness, seen and unseen,
barrenness and destruction, ruin and unseasonable influence;
and that thou permit my harvests, my grain, my vineyards,
and my plantations to flourish and to come to good issue,
preserve in health my shepherds and my flocks, and
give good health and strength to me, my house, and my household.
To this intent, to the intent of purifying my farm,
my land, my ground, and of making an expiation, as I have said,
deign to accept the offering of these suckling victims;
Father Mars, to the same intent deign to accept
the offering of these suckling offering.

Mars the Warrior
As a warrior god, Mars is typically depicted in full battle gear, including a helmet, spear and shield. He is represented by the wolf, and is sometimes accompanied by two spirits known as Timor and Fuga, who personify fear and flight, as his enemies flee before him on the battlefield.

Early Roman writers associated Mars with not only warrior prowess, but virility and power. Because of this, he sometimes is tied to the planting season and agricultural bounty. It is possible that Cato’s invocation above connects the more wild and frenzied aspects of Mars with the need to tame, control and defend the agricultural environment.

In Greek legend, Mars is known as Ares, but was never as popular with the Greeks as he was with the Romans.

Aspects of Moon in Pisces

Witch
Aspects of Moon in Pisces

The Moon in Pisces is the end of the lunar trip through the Zodiac. These couple of days are more meditative, great for first drafts or purely imaginative art-making.

The Muse is close-by during this transit in Pisces. This is the sign of the Fishes, and wrap up time. Good activities are resting, day dreaming, meandering, soaking and escaping into the imagination.
Pisces is a mutable sign, so the mood can shift in a moment.

That’s why it’s wise to create wide open unscheduled time to dillydally. It’s restorative to the soul, on these days, to simply Be.

Big Feeling
Sensitivity of feeling is acute and boundaries between each of us dissolve when the Moon is passing through Pisces. We’ve got a heightened sense of empathy, and can show compassion for human struggles and weakness. Pisces is a water sign, the element of great feeling.

We’re apt to root for the underdog, lift up the lowly, and try to soothe the wounded. We may get overly involved in the problems of others, and temporarily lose ourselves in the process.
It’s wise to watch out for those who prey on the good will of others at this time.

Beyond Time
When the Moon is in Pisces, we swim in imaginative currents that go beyond the normal limits of space and time. It’s a mood when symbols, music and images convey the messages of the soul. This happens through art, dance, film, photography, theatre and play.

A Pisces Moon native is artistic, kind-hearted and has a poetic soul.

A gesture or wise look tells another what words can’t. With the Pisces Moon, we’re wrapped up in the mystery that has infinite meaning, and never try to grasp too tightly to its form. It’s a great time to nourish the imagination.

Zoned Out?
It’s harder to deal with the harsh aspects of reality during these lunar days. We may escape with one more drink, or “check out” in front of the television. It’s easy to coast through the day, when you’re dreamy or “lost.” It helps to have some creative focus, in order not to flounder in the sign of the Fishes.

We soften our hard edges, and find forgiveness where there was resentment.

It’s easier to see the wounds that cause people to act as they do. We have a big heart for those suffering, especially the vulnerable, children, animals and the elderly. We can see the oneness of all life.

This puts a mystical spin on everyday life. We can see the mystery and that can bring divine inspiration or a sense of wonder. Pisces is ruled by Neptune, the planet that’s to do with transcending the everyday, rising above, and experiencing the sublime.

That’s why Moon Pisces time is ideal for doing nothing, and deeply listening.

Favored when the Moon is in Pisces: long soaks; being near the ocean or other water body; watching or doing theatre; taking in a film festival; meditation or spirit-based retreat; being solitary; any imaginative project; tending to those in crisis or lost.

The Moon sets the emotional tone as it transits through the Zodiac signs. It changes signs every 2 1/2 days. You can work with this rhythm to “go with the flow” of the Moon. You can use it to know the general feeling tone to expect.

Fun and Useless Facts about all those ‘Fat Tuesday’ Traditions

Fun and Useless Facts about all those ‘Fat Tuesday’ Traditions

This year’s Mardi Gras, a festival marked by an endless cyclone of feathers, costumes, beads and booze that whips through city streets all over the world, is well underway. It’s been called the wildest fete in the U.S., and for good reason: Every year, droves of partygoers flock to New Orleans to take in the floats, the festivities and the food, and to leave their mark on the Big Easy.

Mardi Gras, meaning “Fat Tuesday” in French, has its origins in medieval Europe. What became a legal holiday in Louisiana in 1875 was once a Christian holiday with roots in ancient Rome. Instead of outright abolishing certain pagan traditions, like the wild Roman festivals of Saturnalia and Lupercalia, religious leaders decided to incorporate them into the new faith.

What became known as the Carnival season was a kick-off to Lent, a sort of last hurrah before 40 days of penance sandwiched between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday. Eventually, the celebration spread from Rome across Europe to the colonies of the New World.

Since its early days in New Orleans in the early 18th century, Mardi Gras has grown to colossal proportions and includes several familiar traditions, like bead throwing, mask wearing and coconut painting, that are widely practiced today but whose origins may have been forgotten.
Here are the real meanings of five popular Mardi Gras Traditions.

The Wearing Of Masks
Masks are an integral part of Mardi Gras culture. During early Mardi Gras celebrations hundreds of years ago, masks were a way for their wearers to escape class constraints and social demands. Mask wearers could mingle with people of all different classes and could be whomever they desired, at least for a few days.

In New Orleans, float riders are required by law to have a mask on. On Fat Tuesday, masking is legal for all Mardi Gras attendees – although many storeowners will post signs asking those entering to please remove their masks first.

The Flambeaux Tradition
Flambeaux, meaning flame-torch, was the tradition of people carrying shredded rope soaked in pitch through the streets so that nighttime revelers could enjoy festivities after dark. They were originally carried by slaves and free African Americans trying to earn a little money. Crowds tossed coins at the torch carriers for lighting the way for the floats.

Today, flambeaux carriers have turned the tradition into something of a performance. Torch bearers dance and spin their kerosene lights – something the original parade planners didn’t intend.

The Throwing Of Beads
The tradition of bead throwing starts with their original colors. The color of the beads was determined by the king of the first daytime Carnival in 1872. He wanted the colors to be royal colors – purple for justice, gold for power and green for faith. The idea was to toss the color to the person who exhibited the color’s meaning.

The beads were originally made of glass, which, as you can imagine, weren’t the best for tossing around. It wasn’t until the beads were made of plastic that throwing them really became a staple of Mardi Gras in New Orleans.

Rex, The King of Carnival
Every year in New Orleans, a king is crowned. His name is Rex, the king of the Carnival, and he first ascended to the throne in 1872. History has it that the very first Rex was actually the Grand Duke Alexis of Russia who, upon a visit to the U.S., befriended U.S. Army officer George Armstrong Custer during a planned hunting expedition in the Midwest.

The Duke’s visit to Louisiana was organized by New Orleans businessmen looking to lure tourism and business to their city following the devastating American Civil War.
Every year, the Rex Organization chooses a new Rex, always a prominent person in New Orleans. He is given the symbolic Key to the City by the Mayor.

Handing Out Zulu Coconuts
The Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club is one of the oldest traditionally black krewes – or parade hosts – in Mardi Gras history. The organization is known for handing out Zulu coconuts, or “golden nuggets.” The earliest reference to these coconuts appears in 1910.

The first coconuts were left in their original hairy state, but years later, Zulu members started painting and decorating them. Getting a Zulu coconut is one of the most sought after traditions during Mardi Gras.

Magickal Days of the Week – Tuesday

Named for the Norse god Tyr, who was a deity of heroism and combat, Tuesday is a very martial sort of day – color associations include bright red and oranges, as well as warrior-like metals such as iron and steel.

The ancient Romans called this day Martis, after the warrior god Mars – other deities associated with Tuesday include Ares, the Morrighan, and other gods of battle and glory. Red gemstones like rubies and garnets come into play on Tuesdays, as do herbs and plants such as thistles, holly, coneflowers and cacti – you’ll notice these are all sharp, prickly plants!
One of the interesting – and more than a little amusing – aspects of Tuesday magic is that in addition to war and conflict against your enemies, this is a day also associated with marriage. You can also use this day of the week for magical workings connected to protection and initiation. Use Tuesday to assert yourself, make a mark and stake your claims.

Tuesday’s Witchery

Tuesday is the day to work any magick that falls in the category of increasing strength, courage, bravery, and passion. All of these intense emotions are linked to this day’s energies, and spells designed around these themes will have extra punch when performed on this magickal day.

So, let’s add a little passion and conviction into your life! Break out the daring red pieces of your wardrobe, and put a little pizzazz into your day. Work with Lilith, and see what she has to teach you about personal power and sexuality. Meditate on Tiw/Tyr and Mars, and see what those ancient warrior gods will show you about new tactics, strategies, and claiming personal victories in your life. Practice conjuring up that astral weapon from the meditation and use it wisely for protection and for courage.

Create a philter for courage and protection or handcraft your own Witch’s jar to remove negativity from your home. See what other Witch crafts you can conjure up with Tuesday’s magick. Create some kitchen magick on this Tuesday by whipping up a spicy stew-add in a few Mars-associated ingredients such as carrots, peppers, and garlic. Empower the stew for success, and then treat yourself and your family to a good, hearty meal. Try working with a little aromatherapy and burn some spicy or coffee-scented candles to increase your energy level.

Check the sky at night, and see if you can find the reddish planet Mars up in the heavens. Not sure where to look? Check an astronomy magazine or search the Web for more information. Tuesday

...
Tuesday

A god, goddess, or planet governs each day of the week. It is usually easy to spot the ruler of the day by its name. The word Tuesday, however, is not so easy, but if we look at the word in Spanish, Martes, we clearly see its connections to Mars.

Because Tuesday revolves around the energy of Mars, Tuesdays are good for business, mechanical things, buying and selling animals, hunting, beginning studies, gardening, sexual activities, and confrontation. This is a day for sex magick, energy, stamina, and health. As in the old saying, Tuesdays child is full of grace, is also good for success magick and defense against enemies.

Angels of Tuesday are Camael, Samael, Satael, Amabiel, Friagne, and Hyniel. When invoked, Camael takes the form of a leopard. In Druid mythology he is a god of war, which is why we see him associated with Mars. Camael is said to be a member of the “Magnificent Seven” in some circles. Camael is another “terminator” angel.
Samael walks both worlds as a magician and sorcerer. some see him as the angel of death, others as “the bright and poisonous one.” Many consider him more of a demon, and accuse him of being Satan. However, there is reference to the satans (plural) as enforcers of the law, a sort of angelic police, if you will. Supposedly, when Samael is around, dogs howl in the night. On one hand, he is the ruler of the fifth heaven and in charge of two million angels; on the other, he is the one who changed into a serpent and convinced Eve to partake of the forbidden fruit of knowledge.

Satael is an angel of air invoked in magic rites and is the presiding spirit of the planet Mars. Amabiel is another spirit of the planet Mars; however he spends his energy on issues of human sexuality. Friagne, also an angel of this day, is invoked from the east. He is a member of the fifth heaven. Hyniel also belongs to this day and is subject to the east wind.

On Tuesdays the hour of sunrise and every eight hours after that are also ruled by Mars, and that makes these times of the day doubly blessed. These four hours are the strongest ones to do ritual in. Check your local newspaper, astrological calendar, or almanac to determine your local sunrise.
