This morning we have Nauthiz of Heimdall’s Aett
pronounced “now-these” (N: Need) Delays, restriction. Resistance leading to strength, innovation, need-fire (self-reliance). Distress, confusion, conflict, and the power of will to overcome them. Endurance, survival, determination. A time to exercise patience. Recognition of one’s fate. Major self-initiated change. Face your fears.
A high wall bars the way. Only a lizard can climb on it. So – become a lizard! Difficulties force you to make changes. Your life may presently have several difficulties or obstacles and it is hardly possible to continue in the same way as you have done before. You may feel up against a wall, but it is so solid that if you try to destroy it, you are likely to damage yourself. A considerable change of attitude and life-style is needed. Only by making such a deep-rooted change can you overcome the obstacles in your way. The rune Nauthiz advises you not to try to overcome obstacles in vain, but there is no reason to be passive and just wait. The wall won’t simply disappear and your best way forward is to work patiently on yourself. Accept that you cannot change your situation quickly or simply, because what is needed is a qualitative change in your whole way of life.
Nauthiz Reversed or Merkstave: Constraint of freedom, distress, toil, drudgery, laxity. Necessity, extremity, want, deprivation, starvation, need, poverty, emotional hunger. (Note: the reversed or merkstave definitions are included only for reference as they apply to a multi-rune cast and not to a single rune that’s drawn blind from the pouch)
As with all, take only what feels right to you and disregard the rest.
