General Description:

The Lamas of Tibet encourage all sorts of magic. Their religion is a form of Buddhism, introduced into Tibet about 750 A.D. It is corrupted with the worship of demons, and many curious magical beliefs. The Food Charm is used to stamp the form of their god Buddha on their food for protection against the powers of evil, and for happiness, both of the physical and spiritual body. The device shows the god Buddha probably surrounded with the emblematic circle of rice, which in Tibet means the Wheel of Life, or misfortunes roll off, and good fortune rolls on.

Today’s Meditation for August 15th

Into The Canyon

Imagine yourself walking across a vast plateau of barren, red rock. Suddenly you find yourself at the edge of a canyon. You follow a path down the seep walls of the canyon. As you descend the air dampens and lush greenery envelops you. When you reach the river at the bottom of the canyon, you wade into shallows and immerse yourself in the water. As you do so a sense of power courses through your body — this river is the source of your inner strength, running deeper than you had ever imagined. Repeat this journey into the canyon whenever you need too contact your inner strength.

 Solomon Grundy

Born on a Monday,

Christened on Tuesday,

Married on Wednesday,

Took ill on Thursday,

Grew worse on Friday,

Died on Saturday,

Buried on Sunday.

That was the end,

Special Kitty of the Day for Jan. 30

Oreo, the Cat of the Day
Name: Oreo
Age: Eight years old
Gender: Female
Kind: Cat
Home: Nova Scotia, Canada
This is Oreo. She spends most of her time in cubby holes and sunny windows. She disappeared for over six months and came back to us very skinny. Now her belly hangs off windowsills, like she is making up for lost time. We are working on helping her lose weight. She loves meeting new people and playing with their feet… so we have to warn visitors about that so she doesn’t get stepped on! The only trick she knows is how to convince someone to give her more food when she just ate, which works particularly well with visitors. She’s loyal, as far as cats go, and thinks she’s my guard cat. However she is easy to petted into submission and loves her chest and belly scratched.

Earth Science Pic of the Day for Sept. 26 – Waterspout off Costa Rica

Waterspout off Costa Rica

September 26, 2011

Flamingo H2O Spout (2)Photographer: Ronald Jensen
Summary Author: Ronald Jensen; Jim Foster

This frightful looking waterspout appeared over the Pacific Ocean, just offshore from Flamingo, Costa Rica on May 23, 2011. It was taken about 5:45 p.m. local time, shortly before sundown. Waterspouts may or may not be tornadic — the ones that don’t develop in the updraft of a supercell storm are termed non tornadic. They’re usually classified as weak tornadoes (F0 or F1) and in most cases lose their rotation upon making landfall. Note that the funnel is descending from a cumuliform parent cloud. No damage was reported from this waterspout.
