Oya’s Day

Colors: Purple, burgundy, dark orange (pottery color), copper
Element: Air
Altar: Lay out the nine sacred items of Oya: the purple cloth, the black flywhisk, the copper crown, the rainstick, the broken pottery rolled up in a woven mat, the earthen pot of candles, the basket of graveyard earth, the buffalo horn, and the glass knife. Burn incense.
Offerings: Plums, eggplants, red wine. The house should be swept thoroughly before the ritual.
Daily Meal: Cooked plums or . Cooked eggplant. Millet. Red wine. .

Invocation to Oya

Hail, Lady of the Wind,
Weather goddess most unpredictable,
Whirlwind that  all away
Before its inevitable path!
Hail, Lady of the Rain,
Bringing water to grow
Our crops and slake our thirst!
Hail, Water Buffalo Woman,
Crashing through the underbrush
Unstoppable as fate!
Hail, Carrier of the Container of Fire,
You who can unleash
New beginnings from the ashes!
Hail, Mistress of the Marketplace
Hetaera of the smashed crockery!
Hail, Lady of Death,
Duena de la Cemetaria,
Princess of Graves!

Liar, Liar Pants On Fire Spell

LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE SPELL

Supplies: a pair of underpants with the name of the offending party wrote on the crotch
with black marker; a bottle of the hottest Tabasco sauce you can find; a bit of thistle and nettles; cinquefoil; black pepper; rubbing alcohol; a long match; an old cauldron or
outside grill.
Instructions:
Pour the Tabasco sauce on the crotch of the underwear. Let dry.
Sprinkle with herbs and black pepper. Sprinkle with a bit of alcohol. Use a long match to light.
Burn in an old cauldron/outside grill. As the underwear burns say-
(the person’s name), I’ve had enough I rise above you,
I’ve rotten tough the wagging tongues of flame bite back
I refuse to take your hateful flack
Your lies become a conflagration
Bringing you to degradation
Your deceit recedes it’s clinging grasp
And I am free – the truth at last! Scatter the ashes off your property.

 

Fennel

Magickal Uses:  Grown around the home, fennel confers protection. Wearing a piece of fennel in the left shoe will prevent wood ticks from biting your legs. Fennel is also hung up at windows and doors to ward off evil spirits, and the seeds can be carried for the same reason.

Fennel is used in purification sachets, as well as in healing mixtures.

Herb Butters

Herb butters add a delightful flavor to vegetables, crackers, breads and meats. They are quick and easy to prepare and turn an ordinary dinner into a meal to remember 

Hints:

  • Use unsalted butter

  • Use lemon zest to enhance flavor

  • Mix into softened butter or simmer

  • Herb butters get stronger with time. Refrigerate two to three weeks. Freeze two to three months

  • Add nuts just prior to serving

  • Chop fresh herbs, cut with scissors, or food process fully dry

  • Simmer herbs about ten minutes. Do not bubble.
