When the Moon is in Pisces – What’s Up?

NIGHT WITCH

When the Moon is in Pisces – What’s Up?

The Moon in Pisces is the end of the lunar trip through the Zodiac. These couple of days are more meditative, great for first drafts or purely imaginative art-making.

The Muse is close-by during this transit in Pisces. This is the sign of the Fishes, and wrap up time. Good activities are resting, day dreaming, meandering, soaking and escaping into the imagination.

Pisces is a mutable sign, so the mood can shift in a moment. That’s why it’s wise to create wide open unscheduled time to dillydally. It’s restorative to the soul, on these days, to simply Be.

Big Feeling

Sensitivity of feeling is acute and boundaries between each of us dissolve when the Moon is passing through Pisces. We’ve got a heightened sense of empathy, and can show compassion for human struggles and weakness. Pisces is a water sign, the element of great feeling.

We’re apt to root for the underdog, lift up the lowly, and try to soothe the wounded. We may get overly involved in the problems of others, and temporarily lose ourselves in the process.

It’s wise to watch out for those who prey on the good will of others at this time.

Beyond Time

When the Moon is in Pisces, we swim in imaginative currents that go beyond the normal limits of space and time. It’s a mood when symbols, music and images convey the messages of the soul. This happens through art, dance, film, photography, theatre and play.

A Pisces Moon native is artistic, kind-hearted and has a poetic soul.

A gesture or wise look tells another what words can’t. With the Pisces Moon, we’re wrapped up in the mystery that has infinite meaning, and never try to grasp too tightly to its form. It’s a great time to nourish the imagination.

Zoned Out?

It’s harder to deal with the harsh aspects of reality during these lunar days. We may escape with one more drink, or “check out” in front of the television. It’s easy to coast through the day, when you’re dreamy or “lost.” It helps to have some creative focus, in order not to flounder in the sign of the Fishes.

We soften our hard edges, and find forgiveness where there was resentment. It’s easier to see the wounds that cause people to act as they do. We have a big heart for those suffering, especially the vulnerable, children, animals and the elderly. We can see the oneness of all life.

This puts a mystical spin on everyday life. We can see the mystery and that can bring divine inspiration or a sense of wonder. Pisces is ruled by Neptune, the planet that’s to do with transcending the everyday, rising above, and experiencing the sublime.

That’s why Moon Pisces time is ideal for doing nothing, and deeply listening.

Favored when the Moon is in Pisces: long soaks; being near the ocean or other water body; watching or doing theatre; taking in a film festival; meditation or spirit-based retreat; being solitary; any imaginative project; tending to those in crisis or lost.

The Moon sets the emotional tone as it transits through the Zodiac signs. It changes signs every 2 1/2 days. You can work with this rhythm to “go with the flow” of the Moon. You can use it to know the general feeling tone to expect.

Magickal Days of the Week – Friday

Friday falls at the end of the work week for many of us, and that means we get a chance to relax for a little bit! Mark your Fridays with colors like pink and aqua, and metals such as copper. This is a day ruled by the planet Venus, so it should be no surprise that Venus and Aphrodite – goddesses of love and beauty – are associated with Fridays. This is a day named for the Norse goddess Freyja, so be sure to take a moment to honor her as well.

Gemstones associated with Friday include coral, emerald and rose quartz, and plants like strawberries, apple blossoms and feverfew are also related. This is a good day to do spellwork associated with family life and fertility, sexuality, harmony, friendship, growth. Take advantage of Friday’s correspondences and plant a seed, make something grow, and enjoy your blessings

*Note: There are a lot of disputes as to the origins of the word Friday, because there is still a great deal of discussion as to whether it was named for Freyja or Frigga, and whether they were the same deity or two separate ones. Some scholars believe that while they may have eventually become two distinctly different goddesses, they could have had their origins in a single, common Proto-Germanic deity.

Friday’s Witchery

Friday’s Witchery

Love magick is a perennial popular topic. However, there is more to this topic than meets the eye. There are many enchanting layers here for us to explore on this day of the week. What about creating a loving home, or producing a loving and nurturing family? What about keeping your intimate relationships vital and on track? How about promoting happy, healthy, and enduring friendships? See, there is more to be considered than just the “You shall be mine…” type of fictional love spell.

Don’t forget that many of the deities associated with Fridays are also parents. So, yes, while this is the day to work on romance, sex, and love spells, there is additional magick to be considered here, which makes Fridays a more well-rounded and bigger opportunity for witchery than many folks ever truly realize. The truest, strongest magick always comes from the heart.

The Witches Friday

Ruler: Freya, Venus

Colors: Emerald green or pink

Power Hours: Sunrise and the 8th, 16th, and 24th hours following.

Key Words: Love, money, health

It is easy to spot the ruler of this day by its name. In the word Friday, we see the roots of the name of the Norse goddess Freya, a goddess of love and fertility, and the most beautiful and propitious of the goddesses thus the verse “Friday’s child is loving and giving.”

In Spanish this day of the week is called Viernes and is derived from the goddess Venus. Matters of love, human interaction, the fluidity of communication, sewing and the creation of artistic garments, household improvement, shopping, and party planning all fall under the aspects of Friday and its ruling planet, Venus.

Friday’s angels are Ariel/Uriel, Rachiel, and Sachiel. Rachiel also concerns himself with human sexuality and is a presiding spirit of the planet Venus.

On Fridays, the hour of sunrise and every eight hours after that are also ruled by Venus, and that makes these times of the day doubly blessed. These four hours are the strongest four hours for conducting ritual.

Check the local newspaper, astrological calendar, or almanac to determine your local sunrise.

On Friday, August 19th, We Celebrate…

Wiccan
On Friday, August 19th, We Celebrate…

Eisteddfod (Wales)
OLWEN

Themes: Arts; Creativity; Excellence; Sun

Symbols: Late-blooming Flowers; Red or Gold Items; Rings

About Olwen: A Welsh sun goddess whose name means “golden wheel” Olwen overcame thirteen obstacles to obtain her true love (symbolic of thirteen lunar months), and she teaches us similar tenacity in obtaining our goals. Art portrays this goddess as having a red-gold collar, golden rings, and sun-colored hair that shines with pre-autumn splendor on today’s celebrations.

To Do Today: Announced thirteen months in advance, this celebration preserves Welsh music and literature amid the dramatic backdrop of sacred stone circles. The Eisteddfod dates back to Druid times; it was originally an event that evaluated those wishing to obtain bardic status. Follow these hopeful bards’ example and wear something green today to indicate your desire to grow beneath Olwen’s warm light. Or, don something red or gold to generate the goddess’s energy for excellence in any task.

You can make an Olwen creativity charm out of thirteen different flower petals. It is best to collect thirteen different ones, but any thirteen will do along with a red – or gold-colored cloth. Fold the cloth over the petals inward three times for body, mind, and spirit, saying with each fold,

Insight begin, bless me, Olwen.

Carry this with you, releasing one petal whenever you want a little extra inspiration.

The Sky This Week for August 19 to August 21

The Perseids may slowly fade, but there’s still plenty to see out there this week, including an important Sirius sighting.

By Richard Talcott

Friday, August 19

• Distant Neptune reaches opposition and peak visibility two weeks from today, but the view now is essentially the same. The ice giant planet rises around 8:30 p.m. local daylight time and climbs nearly halfway to the zenith in the southern sky by 2 a.m. The magnitude 7.8 planet lies in Aquarius, 1° southwest of 4th-magnitude Lambda (l) Aquarii. You’ll need binoculars to spy Neptune and a telescope to see its blue-gray disk, which spans 2.4″.

Saturday, August 20

• Asteroid 2 Pallas reaches opposition and peak visibility today. The second-biggest object orbiting between Mars and Jupiter glows at magnitude 9.2, bright enough to show up through almost any telescope. You can find it on the border between Pegasus and Equuleus, 4° due west of 2nd-magnitude Enif (Epsilon [e] Pegasi), the star that marks the nose of Pegasus the Winged Horse. The lovely globular star cluster M15 lies 2.5° north and a touch east of Pallas. The three objects lie about halfway to the zenith in the southeastern sky after darkness falls.

Sunday, August 21

• Look toward the south-southwest during evening twilight and you can’t miss Mars. The Red Planet shines brightly at magnitude –0.4 and remains visible until it dips below the horizon around midnight local daylight time. Mars resides on the border between Scorpius and Ophiuchus, crossing from the former to the latter constellation today. When viewed through a telescope, Mars’ orange-red disk spans 11″ and shows several subtle dark markings.
• The Moon reaches perigee, the closest point in its orbit around Earth, at 9:19 p.m. EDT. It then lies 228,074 miles (367,050 kilometers) away from us.

Good Friday Morning To All Our Dear Family & Friends! May The Goddess Bless You & Yours!

Merry Meet

Beneath The Full Moon

Come, I will sing it in your ear:
Your dancing days are come.
All the feeling you hold dear
Will lift your spirit some;
Dance until the rosey dawn
All in a gay, glad rag.
I carry the Sun in a golden cup,
The Moon in a silver bag.

And I will sing you merrily
Into my ring of dooms,
And I will twine into your hair
A wreath of maiden blooms.
You’ll turn, when dancing days wane low
To Crone, but not to Hag.
I carry the Sun in a golden cup,
The Moon in a silver bag.

As Maiden grows to Mother,
And Mother into Crone,
Dance, My darling daughter,
Beneath My rounded Moon.
Dance in argent splendor
Until your spirits flag.
I carry the Sun in a golden cup,
The Moon in a silver bag.

By the Light of the Silvery Moon

By the Light of the Silvery Moon
Worshipping the Moon has been practiced since earliest recorded time. It is mentioned in the oldest literatures of Egypt, Africa, Babylonia, India and China, among others. Moon worship is found on the belief that the phases of the Moon and the growth and decline of plant, animal and human life are related. In some societies, food is laid out at night to absorb the rays of the Moon, which are thought to have power to cure disease and prolong life. In some central African tribes it is customary for a mother to bathe her newborn child by the light of the first Full Moon. The Moon is frequently equated with wisdom and justice, as in the worship of the Egyptian god Thoth and the Mesopotamian god Sin. The Moon god Sin is usually depicted as an old man with a long beard. His emblem is the crescent Moon(sometimes represented as a boat or the horns of a bull.) Mount Sinai is named for him.
However, for a time, the Moon was believed to exude evil into the world. One commonly held superstition was that the Full Moon could make a person insane (hence the word lunatic from luna, the Latin word for the Moon). Nights of a Full Moon were supposed to be extremely unlucky because hellish beasts and demons such as werewolves drew their sinister powers from its dark energy. Today, however, she is back in favor, with many Pagans and Wiccans honoring her and asking for her assistance in rituals.
In some cultural traditions, the Moon is considered masculine, which may be where we get our legend of “The Man in the Moon.” In an old Lithuanian legend, when the young maiden is asked about her parents, she replies, “My mother is the beauteous Sun, and my father the bright Moon.” For most Natural Magicians, though the Full Moon is the embodiment of the Goddess; she is Maiden, Mother, and Crone. She is the yin balance of the Source of All.

Full Moon/Chant To Seal A Spell During this Phase

Full Moon
The Moon’s energy is most intense when She reaches abundant fullness. Any magickal effort, especially difficult ones, can benefit greatly from the potency of this phase. Use the full Moon to amplify magickal intent and to give spellworkings additional power.
To seal spells performed during the full Moon, use this chant or one of your own choosing:
Abundant Mother, Moon so bright
Hear my plea upon this night.
Your fertile power lend this spell;
Make it potent, strong and well.

Ritual To Receive The Protection Of The Moon

pent

Ritual To Receive The Protection Of The Moon

Place a jewel, that you regularly carry on you, in a cup of spring water a day before the full moon. The following day, on the evening of full moon, stir the water three times with your finger in a clockwise motion. Take the cup in your hands and in a clockwise, stirring motion, move the cup in a clockwise, circular, stirring motion three times.

Then, repeat these words aloud:

O LIGHT OF THE MOON,
WRAP ME,
PROTECT ME,
KEEP ME FROM HARM.

Raise the cup towards the sky and drink the water. Remove the jewel from the cup. You must carry it on your person to the next full moon in order to ensure your protection.

Repeat this ritual every month to benefit from its influence.
