Good Friday Morning to all our brothers & sisters of the Craft. May you have a blessed day.

We were wondering if we could even get started this Friday morning.
Is is Friday the 13th? If not, I can’t believe it. We have three computers that are loaded with tons of witchcraft information. Those computers also include sites that we have permission to pull information from. Yesterday, the men wanted to run us out of the office again so they could continue working on the store. I told them, no. Lady A had told me to get this site back up and running. They would just have to wait and come back when we were through.
I know Lord M called about 4:00 yesterday and asked me if it would be alright for him and the other two men come to the office and work on the store. I told him of course it was. I explained to him what Lady A had said and I was just doing as she wished. He was so understanding I ought to have know something was up. This morning when the ladies got at their computers and started to work, the passwords on the computers the men had worked on, had been changed. We are locked out of those computers and they do contain all our information on them.
I can’t believe they meant to but a password doesn’t get changed by itself. Maybe they didn’t know the witchcraft material were on those computer. I believe they thought we would do something to mess up the store. I know they wouldn’t intentionally do anything to harm the WOTC or go against Lady A’s wishes. But still we are locked out. I would call Lady A and tell her but I don’t want to upset her while she is in the hospital. We are going to tread through the best we can. We can provide you with your horoscopes, tarot and I have some links I have collect regarding witchcraft. So we will make it. I hope.
I can’t wait to talk to Lord M and see what the heck happened. Should be an interesting conversation. I hope you enjoy what information we are able to supply you with today.
Have a blessed day,
Lynette
Candle Meditation to Help Lady of the Abyss Get her Health Back
:origin()/pre00/fe59/th/pre/i/2009/134/3/f/candles_by_just_a_bit_strange.jpg)
Gather around Brother and Sisters for us to combine our positive energy to help Lady Abyss regain her health.
At 6:00 PM CT on Friday, June 8, 2018, I would like everyone to light a green or white candle, the size of it does not matter.
After your candle is lit stare at the base of its flame while concentrating on sending positive energy and healing to Lady Abyss. Do this meditation for a minimum of 10 minutes. Then put the candle out. Relight it every day at the same time and meditate with it as above until the candle has completely burned down. Take the leftover wax and bury it in Mother Earth asking her to also send her positive energy and grounding to Lady Abyss.
Also, remember the great daily fundraisers WOTC are doing for Lady Abyss medicine that costs $768.00 per bottle. They are offering some beautiful and useful items ar a large discount. The total SHipping Costs for all items you buy in a single day is one low price of just $6.95! So check out the daily Fundraiser posts either on here or WOTC
If you want to include a health God and/or Goddess to lend their power and energy to what you are sending Lady Abyss. here is one list I found on the internet:
List of health deities
A health deity is a god or goddess in mythology or religion associated with health, healing and wellbeing. They may also be related to childbirth or Mother Goddesses. They are a common feature of polytheistic religions.
List of health deitiesAfrican
- Agwu, Igbo god of health and divination
- Jengu, water spirits that bring good fortune and cure disease
- !Xu, sky god of the Bushmen of southern Africa who is invoked in illness…

When you think of Pagans
When you think of Pagans
What is the image that comes to mind? Is it one of demonic rituals, images of tattooed bodies dancing hysterically around a smoky bonfire in frantic movements, or nude bodies intertwined in sweaty deviate sexual activities, orgies of body and mind? Perhaps it’s one of a dark gloomy room with a group of red eyed twisted faces peering over a large cast-iron pot, mouthing strange words in praise of their hell-bound master? Pass the popcorn. Because that is what you’ve seen, movie hype in a gross attempt to make MONEY.
For the last 8 centuries the Christian faith has done its best to drum up intolerance to anything it feels as a threat to its supreme authority over humanities free will, its right to choose. This one god theory is an attempt to control, regulate or suppress the search for knowledge which is the basic urge of all humans. They even made it a sin (Original) for the very fact of acquiring the thirst for it, as written in their holies of holy books the bible, as if it were a theft from the gods and not a gift. They even admit in the same book that whomever it was that first had an independent thought that the gods commanded to banish them into eternal misery from a garden of such delights as we could only image, such a caring god. As long as humans were ignorant and servile, they could enjoy bliss at their (gods) will. But once they became aware of who they were and the world around them, knowledge, the first thing god did was to punish. So much for a merciful and forgiving god.
So once this cultist extremism came in to a power of authority around the 3rd century B. C. E. so fragile was its hold on the position that it was destined to become, that surrounded by nations of peoples who for tens of thousands of years had formatted their own ideas of the their place in the greater scheme, what rituals and feast days that they could not be absorbed, they demonized. Damming the non-believers in to an abyss of imaginable torments, populated with hideous creatures deformed from the sins of denial of the true god (a matter of opinion).
Gradually this intolerance over the centuries grew from merely a sin and damnation of the soul, to be ever more manifest into the physical hell that the Christians so vehemently describe in the domain of their second god (devil, satan etc.). By committing the most horrendous tortures upon the bodies of innocent non-believers (submit or die) until the pursuit of death (murder). Witchery they finally came to call it, any belief in a deity other than theirs. Satan, the devil was the only answer they could agree was the cause of all this dissention, and ascribed the most bizarre scenes that their deviate minds could image to its adherence.
Along with their fear of losing authority over the populace they were ignorant of the natural world, of herbal medicine etc.. Attributing anything outside the words of a book written centuries before as the work of an evil that even they did not understand. But if they kept the populace ignorant and afraid they could maintain control. Demonize all other deities to the point of a hysterical devotion to their god.
So now you come to the mental conditioning of today. What has changed, not a lot from the fanatic’s point of view that still see the pagan as the agent of the great satan, the doer of pure evil calling upon demons from the far reaches of hell. Instead of just someone with a different view of the world and its mysteries. Compared with other religions of the world I have as yet to find a Pagan call for the eradication of any or all other religions of the world, the same cannot be said of several of today’s religions.
In conclusion, I suggest the next time you think of pagans, envision this, a business suit, jogging pants, a kitchen apron or anything that a so called normal person would be wearing in the very day goings. People are people it’s the fanatic ideologies that drive us to extremes.
Thank you for taking the time to read this

The Witches Divination Journal for Thursday, June 7

Your Daily Horoscopes for Thursday, June 7
Aries

You can start the day relatively withdrawn and happy in that state, dear Aries, but later today, you crave a connection with others with the Moon’s move into your sign. Also today, you’re in a good position to advance your money-making, work, or health projects. This can also be a good time for networking and the formation of interesting and unique friendships, particularly related to your work or business. Today’s energies are particularly suitable for sharpening your mind or exploring new interests.
Taurus

You’re able to do your own thing and lead the way today, dear Taurus, but you also manage to be constant and reliable, which is scoring you points with others. It’s a good time to pick up the slack or otherwise make small improvements in your relationships, primarily, but also with work. However, it’s essential that you avoid the temptation to fall back on work if you’re doing it to avoid personal problems. You’re in a particularly good position to clarify your thoughts on a matter today. Ideas are especially notable now.
Gemini

You’re in a particularly strong position to understand your inner world, responses, and closest relationships today, dear Gemini. You’re also in good shape for dealing with emotional attachments and dependencies. There are solutions, outlets, or breakthroughs for these things now, and it feels good! You’re both practical and progressive now, and this aids decision making. A Mercury-Juno aspect today assists you to connect with people who are truly helpful, supportive, or otherwise in your corner. Teamwork can be especially fun and useful now.
Cancer

You are in good shape for strengthening a partnership or friendship today, dear Cancer, and especially for combining the old with the new or the exciting with the steady elements and making the most of your situation in this way. This can also be a good time for rewriting the “rules” in your relationships if things have become stale or challenging. You might experience a strong desire to finish up a project, and you’re in an excellent position to gain insight into what you may need to cut out to go forward in a freer, lighter way. Information surfacing now tends to be helpful and even purging.
Leo

Today is strong for coming to a better balance, dear Leo, although you may need to avoid the temptation to blame someone else for your troubles. You can see the best of the traditional and progressive worlds and apply these things to your work, career, health, and partnerships. Relationships with co-workers, superiors, and associates can improve now. Communications, particularly with friends, are more rewarding and useful than usual, and might even lead to a solution to a problem or another form of an advance. Mental rapport with others can be satisfying and inspiring.
Virgo

You have good influences working for you today (and this week in general) for travel, publishing, creative projects, and romance, dear Virgo. You’re coming to fairer expectations of these matters and yourself, and decision making benefits. You may be combining teaching and learning or work and play with great success right now, and ideas can emerge that help you have more fun but also get the practical things done. You are using your resources intelligently right now. You’re in an excellent position to develop strategies and make plans. This can be an interesting time for discovering facts that give you an “in” where you thought there wasn’t any.
Libra

It’s a good time to make changes that stabilize your life in key ways, dear Libra, particularly related to relationships, living conditions, and family or domestic matters. Money matters or debts can be part of this. There can be excellent support at home or with family as you’re willing to pour extra energy into making things work right now. Your focus on priorities helps since you have little interest in diversions, making it a great time for meaningful work and conversations. This is an excellent day for understanding the perspective of someone significant to you, even if you failed to empathize with it in the past.
Scorpio

You’re in a fabulous position to update and improve your relationships, studies, or projects now, dear Scorpio, with a harmonious influence that helps you make changes that are ultimately stabilizing. You’re taking the best from both the traditional and progressive and making things work. For some of you, this is a fantastic time for a collaboration with a partner on something that’s important to you. You may need to avoid the temptation of spending too much time to yourself or avoiding your duties, though, as you can be procrastinating if you’re dreading something. However, conversations can be highly motivating. Seeing a new layer of a situation can have you feeling good about yourself.
Sagittarius

This is a wonderful time for making changes that may be small but very useful, dear Sagittarius. You’re in a great position to make minor updates, particularly in the areas of work, health, money, and habits, that result in significant improvements. Alternative approaches to work, living arrangements, or healing can be successful now, or changes in your current methods make life easier. Also today, you’re in good shape for helpful conversations with a lover, child, or friend. Decisions related to creative projects and hobbies tend to be sound. Collaboration is highly favored today. Do watch for a tendency to focus on annoying details at the expense of the bigger picture.
Capricorn

With Vesta in your sign harmonizing with Uranus, dear Capricorn, you can have a heartening sense that the effort you’re putting forth now will lead to a freer, more enjoyable state of mind. You might also benefit from balancing responsibility and recreation more evenly. Uranus, now in your solar fifth house, is bound to encourage you to pay more attention to fun, or at the very least, stimulate a desire for new ways to express yourself. It’s easier than usual to see what can go today in the name of progress, although it may be the opposite when it comes to money and spending, so do watch for impulsivity along these lines.
Aquarius

You’re benefiting from a pleasant aspect that encourages creative and practical ways to live, work, and settle in this week, dear Aquarius. The trick is to start working on putting a difficult situation or long-term problem behind you. Taking steps towards these ends makes sense now, and can be very worth it in the long run. You don’t have to do everything all at once, fortunately, but starting the process makes sense now. You’re also in a good position to collaborate, get an edge in a personal interest or hobby, or gain an advantage with new information today. Conversations can lead to fabulous ideas or might even spark up and rekindle an old interest in a project.
Pisces

Today is good for finding a balance between the traditional and unconventional, dear Pisces, particularly with communications, learning, connecting, and networking. Technological projects can be in focus and successful, too. This can be a time for finding a way to have fun and make money, teach and learn at the same time, or follow personal interests and connect with others. Friends might hook you up with satisfying projects, or you may be similarly helping others. Today’s energies are good for getting to the heart of a matter, mainly related to money, security, and family. A conversation can help clarify an important topic or new ideas for making improvements can come in handy now. You hone in on the most valuable details of an issue now.

If You Were Born Today, Thursday, June 7
You have strong business instincts which can aid you in your worldly goals, but you also possess a distinct spiritual side which you share only with those very close to you. Some might call you lucky, but in truth, you make your own luck. You can be a tad stubborn and this quality can make relationships challenging, especially as you tend to attract the same quality in others. Famous people born today: Paul Gauguin, Dean Martin, Jessica Tandy, Liam Neeson, Prince, Anna Kournikova.
Your Birthday Year Forecast:
Your birthday occurs around a Third Quarter Moon this year, and you are reaching an important turning point in terms of personal growth. You may be more emotional this year and should watch for unnecessary conflicts and making hasty decisions as a result. Otherwise, this is a year of greater understanding and a strong desire to take care of business. This should be a busy, dynamic period in your life.
Neptune transits square to your Sun this year, and there can be times when you combat low energy and motivation levels. It’s important to be selective when it comes to projects or answering demands. A noncommittal attitude in your personal life could leave people in your life feeling frustrated with you as you attempt to find yourself. Your self-image is being re-worked, and you are becoming more sensitive to a greater, perhaps more spiritual, sense of purpose.
This can be an exceptionally busy year on a mental level. At times, you may feel like the pace of your life is running ahead of you. You can be especially productive, however, in all types of communications–writing, speaking, learning, teaching, and so forth. Your reputation may be enhanced through word of mouth. Making new contacts through learning and mental pursuits figures strongly as well.
Certain relationships grow and expand this year or there can be the growth of a money-making pursuit or a satisfying hobby. Pleasing circumstances surrounding your love life, finances, and creative pursuits are in store this year. You are more generous, and others return the favor.
However, intensity characterizes your personal relationships and romantic attachments at times. Passions, feelings of jealousy, and possessiveness can run high, and these emotions are in direct proportion to fear of losing someone. You are likely to have to deal with these emotions in yourself, but you may also need to handle the jealousies and possessiveness of a partner. Relationships may be complicated or you seem drawn to complicated relationships. The need for deeper intimacy is present, but fear of this closeness may be just as strong. Something tiny can trigger all sorts of buried emotions, and this can be very revealing! Instead, there may be some tension over your personal finances, and/or need to make a large payment that necessitates changes in your spending habits. Finances may be complicated or there are power struggles with money this year.
Idealistic and humanitarian goals or impulses surface this year. Making connections with others from different backgrounds may figure strongly. Widening your mind through unusual or different experiences can be part of the picture. You more easily make personal sacrifices for what you believe to be the better good this year.
You’re in an excellent position for personal interests, education, and projects, as you are more committed to these things than usual. Your social life can transform in wonderful and perhaps magical ways, although some relationships can be complicated. You’re motivated regarding your personal interests and projects, and life can be very busy this year. Even so, until February, energy levels are up and down until you get in touch with what inspires you.
2018 is a Number Six year for you. Ruled by Venus. This is a year of relative contentment. It’s a time when love is the easiest to attract, and partnerships formed under this vibration have a better chance for longevity. You are especially able to attract others–and material things as well–this year. This is a good year for establishing harmony in the family and the home. Advice – develop existing relationships, be positive and receptive because these kinds of energies help you to attract what you desire.
2019 will be a Number Seven year for you. Ruled by Neptune. This is a year of preparation, chance, and refinement. It is not a time of dramatic changes. Instead, it’s a year when reflection on the past is helpful, and when refinements to your life path should be made. It’s a good year to study, observe, research, and analyze. Unexpected twists to your life story and “chance” meetings are probable. Advice – take stock of your life in order to prepare for more exciting years to come, examine the past and plan for the future, get in touch with your deepest needs and uncover your personal power, don’t strain yourself or actively try to expand.

Your Daily Horoscopes for Friday, June 8
Aries

While you may have been keeping a low profile for the last couple of days, dear Aries, with the Moon in your sign today, you’re seeking out more connections to the world around you. Mercury is in minor tense aspect to both Pluto and Mars today, which suggests communication challenges, especially since Mercury is currently in your sector of communications and mobility. You could be working under stress right now, feeling pressure to produce or to solve problems quickly. While conversations seem light on the surface, there can be some tense undercurrents. The root of tension may be concerns for the future or increasing ambitions or competition. There can be minor but marked conflicts of interest with someone. The tendency to be taken the wrong way is strong right now, but nothing that you can’t handle! Mental restlessness can lead to positive experiences, particularly if it compels you to seek out new and exciting information or interests. Discipline, however, can be lacking if you are required to focus on dry or monotonous work.
Taurus

The Moon spends the day in your privacy sector, dear Taurus, encouraging you to keep a lower profile than usual as you need to take a break from the routine. While it can be challenging to do so now, try to get rid of rigid ways of looking at things, and if you find yourself acting out of your insecurities or fears, nip this in the bud as soon as possible. Tensions arising today are unlikely to be about what they appear to be on the surface. Convincing others to address the root of a problem may be tricky but not impossible! There can be a war of words over personal possessions, values, communications styles, or respect. Or, this can be a day when the ordinary doesn’t satisfy, which can lead to interesting thoughts, but possibly some restlessness as well. Watch for impatience especially with people who are lacking a sense of decorum. Aim to be as flexible and adaptable as possible, and keep the bigger picture in perspective so that you don’t let the little problems drag you down today.
Gemini

Mercury’s minor challenging aspects today suggest some tension, dear Gemini. This morning, there can be two separate pulls – one towards light and easy thoughts and communications, and the other towards digging up the truth of a matter. This can leave you undecided, but if you let go of one, you’ll be in a better place! Your voice is stronger than usual these days with Mercury in your sign, and your words have more impact in general, making it especially important to watch you don’t communicate a little too impulsively or get overly fired up over a difference in opinion. Today can be strong, however, for feeling emotionally centered, particularly if you focus on work behind the scenes or get the private, quiet time you so need right now.
Cancer

With Mercury in minor challenging aspect today, dear Cancer, there can be a lack of flow and perhaps some misunderstandings to deal with, although nothing you can’t handle! Communications can rather easily go awry, and there can be something emerging from your past that you’d prefer stays buried. Alternatively, your mind can be restlessly scanning the past for answers, and it can be difficult settling yourself. A disconnect with a partner can be an issue now. Something may feel out of sync, or you could be worried you missed something that will later surprise you. You may need to spend a little time sorting out your problems to clear your head. Attempt to keep things light and straightforward, but don’t entirely avoid the deeper issues, particularly if they are the same old patterns that keep emerging. It may be better to discuss these things, though, when everyone is more receptive.
Leo

This morning, concerns about or ambitions related to health or work can impact your social activities, dear Leo, or play with your head a little, making it challenging to concentrate. It can be hard to enjoy yourself thoroughly, as well, with so much going on at the back of your mind. As much as you want to “do it all,” you may benefit from some delegation of tasks or help from others. Later today, it’s a good idea to try to stay centered and focused rather than to allow others’ dramas to throw off decision making. You might feel like someone is overstepping bounds and this can cause you to feel quite self-protective. Wait things out, get rest, and aim to approach problems from a fresh perspective tomorrow.
Virgo

This morning, there can be an edge to the atmosphere around you that makes you feel that you should be accomplishing something substantial, dear Virgo. However, it can be hard to know where to put your energies. This can stimulate restlessness or needless arguments and drama. Your ideas may not go over as well as they would on another day, so you may want to hold onto them for now. Watch for impatient, impulsive communications, and tension related to changes of schedules. Today is better for troubleshooting and edits. There can be misunderstandings or poor timing that make relating to one another a little strained. Do your part by resolving not to take things too personally if things are slightly off. Be careful about what you communicate, especially professionally, as your words hold more weight than usual with Mercury at the top of your solar chart these days.
Libra

Others may be a little too self-absorbed this morning for communications to flow both ways, dear Libra. Aim to let things flow rather than maneuver them for best results now. Watch for power plays with others, particularly with those closest to you. You can be quite focused on a moral issue or a particular belief and perspective. While giving something further thought is just fine, try to shake it off if it’s truly interfering with your day. Alternatively, you can find a way to act upon your feelings and beliefs, even in a small way, so that you can feel you’re actually going somewhere with it. Later today, there can be impatient communications to contend with or frustrations with people who can’t seem to express their ideas or opinions with consideration for others. Try to keep things in perspective. Watch for hasty actions and communications. It will be important to slow yourself down just enough to catch mistakes or to prevent unnecessary conflicts. Try to direct any excess energy into something you truly love doing.
Scorpio

This morning, Mercury forms an awkward angle with your ruler, Pluto, dear Scorpio, and this tends to complicate your communications and mental focus. Decisions revolving around ownership, money, or knowledge can be challenging to make. This is a time when what’s below the surface of matters is more important to you than pretty much anything else! Find ways to know yourself and important people in your life more deeply, but watch for focusing on things that don’t honestly matter in the long run to the detriment of your happiness. Later today, Mercury forms another minor challenging aspect, and you may feel some pressure to speed things up. Unfortunately, people are not inclined to take the time to listen, and frustrations can result. This is not a good time for bringing up tricky topics. Be easy on yourself by calming down and thinking of priorities.
Sagittarius

This morning, dear Sagittarius, watch for the tendency to bring worries about your practical affairs into interactions with others and try to separate the two. Energies for communicating are below par most of today, in fact, but you can find spots for expressing and enjoying yourself. Watch what you say and avoid rushing through paperwork and conversations, particularly as the day advances when Mercury and Mars are in challenging aspect, stimulating a sense that you should rush or push a matter. There can be quite a bit of energy available, but it’s difficult to channel it. For some of you, there can be a disagreement over ideas or choice of words with a partner. Keeping yourself mentally stimulated and engaged, even with games, can be helpful.
Capricorn

This morning, watch for worrying too much, dear Capricorn, as it wastes your energy. Be kind to yourself and channel your energy into happier, more satisfying pursuits than overthinking things. Keep in mind that irritability or tension due to the stress of increased demands from others can be experienced now, so be sure not to add even more to your plate. Later today, there can be some tension of a different variety as a Mercury-Mars aspect can speed up your thinking or give you a sense that you should be doing more than you are. Irritations tend to stem from a lack of control over routines or work, or there can be some minor health concerns now. Watch for a competitive edge in your communications. You could feel impatient with people who seem to be taking too much time or who are otherwise blocking your progress. Do your best to center yourself or to direct excess mental energy into something productive.
Aquarius

With Mercury in minor challenging aspects with Pluto and Mars today, dear Aquarius, people may be harping on problem areas or scrambling to take control of situations but have trouble managing if and when they do! Interactions can be a little strained as a result. It can also be challenging to choose between playing it safe and taking a creative risk. Do your best not to take things too personally if interactions are awkward. Avoid staying in a state of limbo for too long, but don’t rush decisions, either. Instead, aim to focus on productive pursuits. Later today, something (or someone) might test your nerves. Watch for excessive hastiness, which won’t serve you well. People around you may be nitpicking or misunderstanding your desires and actions. Avoid pushing matters and find ways to soothe frayed nerves.
Pisces

This morning, problems or challenges related to your career and social life can weigh heavily on you, dear Pisces, and these can interfere to some degree with your personal or family life and even the words you use to express yourself today. It’s better not to read too much into problem areas now unless they stick, so give things and people time. Later today, Mercury in a challenging aspect with Mars can point to some frustrations brewing, particularly with a family member or tension in your personal life. Consider both the benefits and challenges that impulsiveness brings to your life so that you are better equipped to deal with surprise elements coming your way. The Moon spends today in your resources sector, helping to ground you.

Tarot Card of the Day
The Fool

Pamela Coleman-Smith’s artful rendition of The Fool in the Rider-Waite Tarot deck is often used to represent Tarot in general. Early classical versions of The Fool card, however, portray quite a different character — a person driven by base needs and urges, who has fallen into a state of poverty and deprivation.
In some earlier instances, The Fool is made out to be a carnival entertainer or a huckster. In others, he is portrayed as decrepit and vulnerable — as the cumulative result of his delusions and failures. Not until the 20th century do you see the popular Rider-Waite image of The Fool arise — that of an innocent soul before its fall into matter, untainted by contact with society and all its ills.
Modern decks usually borrow from the Rider-Waite imagery. Most Fool cards copy the bucolic mountainside scene, the butterfly, and the potential misplaced step that will send The Fool tumbling into the unknown. Don’t forget, though, that the earlier versions of this card represented already-fallen humanity, over-identified with the material plane of existence, and beginning a pilgrimage toward self-knowledge and, eventually, wisdom. The Fool reminds us to recognize the path of personal development within ourselves — and the stage upon that path where we find ourselves — in order to energize our movement toward deeper self-realization.

Your Daily Karmic Number for Thursday,

You are beginning a new cycle of doing the same thing over again. The hamster wheel will wear out soon. Will you buy a new one and continue on the same path to nowhere, or finally bust out of the cage? If you stay put the scenery will not change. Neither will the food, your sleeping pattern, or sense of style, much less bigger and more obvious things. You still need to learn lessons from the previous cycle, so reflect on the past so that you can release negative karma and move into a brand new, positive cycle.

Thursday: When the hammer is smashing up the skies
And we have just arrived to Thursday, named after Thor, the Norse god of thunder. He travels through the heavens in a charriot, wearing a special belt and iron gloves which give him extra strength to lift his giant hammer.
Romance languages based their fifth day’s name upon the Latin Dies Iovis, meaning the Day of Jupiter (jueves in Spanish, jeudi in French, giovedi in Italian). Jupiter was a chief Roman god, the god of laws and social order. His attribute was a thunderbolt.

Thursday, June 7
Thursday is the day of the planet Jupiter, dedicated to Thunor(Thor), God of thunder and agricultural work. His parallels in various European traditions are Zeus, Taranis, Perun, Perkunas and St. Olaf. The faith of the Northern Tradition holds Thursday sacred, just as Islam reveres Friday, Judaism the Sabbath(calculated from sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday), and Christianity, Sunday. This is why almost all adages about Thursday are positive, such as “Thursday’s child has far to go,” “Sneeze on Thursday, something better,” or “Cut nails on Thursday for wealth.” Thursday rules controlled optimism, energetic growth, physical well-being and material success.

June–The Month of Juno
The month of June is probably named after Juno, the wife of Jupiter, and queen of the gods. It was held sacred to her, and was thought by the Romans to be the luckiest month for marriage, since Juno was the Goddess of Marriage. Wherever the goddess went she was attended by her messenger Iris (the Rainbow), who journeyed so quickly through the air that she was seldom seen, but after she had passed there was often left in the sky the radiant trail of her highly-coloured robe.
Juno is always represented as a tall, beautiful woman, wearing a crown and bearing a sceptre in her hand, and often she is shown with a peacock at her side, since that bird was sacred to her.
A story is told of one of her servants, Argus, who had a hundred eyes, only a few of which he closed at a time. Juno set him to watch over a cow which Jupiter wished to steal, for it was really a beautiful girl named Io, whom Jupiter had transformed. Mercury was sent by Jupiter to carry off Io, and by telling long and wearisome stories to Argus at last succeeded in lulling him into so deep a sleep that he closed all his eyes. The god then seized Argus’s own sword and cut off his head. Juno was very sad at the loss of her servant, and gathering up his hundred eyes scattered them over the tail of the peacock, her favourite bird.
Juno was of a very jealous disposition, and when angered brought all the misfortune she possibly could on the one who had offended her. At a wedding-feast at which the gods and goddesses were present, Eris, the Goddess of Discord, or Quarrelling, suddenly appeared. She had not been invited because of her evil nature, and in order to have her revenge, she threw on to the table a golden apple bearing the inscription, “To the fairest”. A quarrel at once arose as to whom the apple should be given, for it was claimed by Juno, the Queen of Heaven, Minerva, the Goddess of Wisdom, and Venus, the Goddess of Beauty. Being unable to decide among themselves, they determined to appoint as judge a shepherd named Paris, who was really the son of the King of Troy. The three goddesses appeared before him on a mountain top, and each in turn tried to persuade him by the promise of a great reward. Minerva offered him wisdom and knowledge, Juno offered him wealth and power, while Venus
“drawing nigh,
Half-whispered in his ear, ‘I promise thee
The fairest and most loving wife in Greece'”.Paris at once gave the apple to Venus, and thus angered Juno and Minerva, who determined to punish him whenever all opportunity occurred. This they were soon able to do, for Paris, prompted by Venus, carried off Helen, the most beautiful woman in all Greece, and brought her to his own city of Troy. This led to the Trojan War, which we have mentioned. The Trojans who made their escape from the city were persecuted by Juno, who brought them into many terrible dangers.
Juno, though jealous and unforgiving, gave ungrudging help to those whom she favoured, and an example of this is seen in the story of Jason and the Golden Fleece. When Jason was a child, his father Aeson, had been driven from his kingdom by his brother Pelias, and Jason, as soon as he reached manhood, determined to avenge his father. Accordingly he set out for the court of Pelias, and soon came to a stream much swollen by floods. Knowing no fear, he was about to try to ford the stream, when he saw an old woman on the bank gazing in despair at the foaming waters. He at once offered to help her by taking her on his back, and in spite of the swift stream and his heavy load, succeeded in getting safely across. He lowered the old woman gently to the ground, and was greatly annoyed to find that he had lost one of his sandals in the stream. He turned to bid farewell to the old woman, when she was suddenly transformed into the goddess Juno. Jason begged for her help and protection, which Juno at once promised, and the goddess then vanished. Jason then resumed his journey in all haste, and entering his native city, found Pelias in a temple sacrificing to the gods. He pressed forward through the crowd until he stood close to Pelias, who at length caught sight of this stranger who seemed anxious to speak to him. Fear at once filled his heart, for he remembered that it had been foretold that he should be overthrown by a man who came to him wearing only one sandal. Jason stepped forward and boldly claimed the throne for his father, and Pelias, disguising his fear and anger, invited him to his palace, where they could decide the matter. During the banquet which followed, Jason heard the story of Phrixus and Helle, two children who had escaped from their cruel stepmother on a winged ram with a golden fleece, which bore them far away from their home. As they passed over the sea, the girl Helle fell from the ram’s back into a part of the sea ever since known as the Hellespont (now the Dardanelles). Phrixus reached Colchis, at the eastern end of the Black Sea, in safety, and there sacrificed the ram to the gods and hung its golden fleece on a tree which stood in a poisonous wood and was guarded by a serpent. The cunning Pelias dared Jason to try to win the Golden Fleece, hoping that thus he would be rid of him for ever. Jason in his excitement forgot the crime which he had come to avenge, and recklessly promised to bring the fleece to Pelias. With the help of Juno, he gathered together a number of heroes, and this famous band, called the Argonauts from the name of their ship the Argo, set out for Colchis. Arriving there after many adventures, they sought the king and told him of their errand. The king, however, was unwilliiig to part with the fleece, and said that Jason must first catch two wild bulls, which breathed fire and had hoofs of brass, harness them to a plough, and make them plough a field; then he was to sow the field with serpents’ teeth, from which would spring up armed men whom he must conquer, and finally he was to kill the serpent which guarded the fleece. Jason did not lose heart when he heard these terrible conditions, but returned to his ship to think out how he might, fulfil them. On his way to the shore he met the king’s daughter Medea, who possessed magic powers. She had fallen in love with Jason, and she told him how he could perform the tasks her father had set. The next day Jason, relying on Medea’s help, faced the bulls without fear, seized them by the horns, and, after a great struggle, harnessed them to a plough. As soon as he had ploughed the field he sowed the serpents’ teeth, and when the armed men sprang up on all sides he threw his helmet amongst them. The warriors thought that they had been struck by one of their own number, with the result that they fell upon each other and fought until they all lay dead on the ground. Medea then led Jason to the tree to which the fleece was fastened, and soothing the terrible serpent by her magic, enabled Jason to cut off its head. He quickly snatched the Golden Fleece from the tree, and with Medea hastened to the shore, whence they set sail in triumph. They wandered far and suffered many misfortunes, but through Juno’s help they at last reached their native land. Jason compelled Pelias to give up the kingdom to Aeson, who was now an old man. Medea, however, in some strange way was able to restore Aeson to his youth and strength, and Pelius’ daughters, when they heard of this, asked her how they might do the same for their father. Medea, seeing her opportunity, gave them false instructions, which they followed, only to find that instead of making their father young again they had killed him.
This month of June was called by the Angles and Saxons the “dry month”, and sometimes the “earlier mild month”–July being the second mild month.

Thursday’s Witchery
Today is the day for prosperity work of all kinds. It can also be used for healing work, whether that is a physical healing of an illness or an emotional healing. Also remember that you have to follow up your healing work and prosperity magick and physical action.
I can’t tell you the number of times I have met new witches who complain to me that their prosperity spell or “I need a better job” spell did not work as they expected. They’ll ramble on and on about how much time and money they spent working their magick….but, alas, they had no glorious manifestation of wealth or fabulous job that suddenly dropped out of the sky and landed in their laps.
Then, when I gently ask them, “Did you enchant your resume or application when you filled it out? Did you do a little confidence-boosting spellwork when you went to apply for the job or went to the interview?” typically they give me a blank, confused stare.
Nine times out of ten, their response is, “You mean I have to go out and actually look for the job too?” Um, yes, my dear, you certainly do. Magick follows the path of least resistance, which means it’s going to manifest along the simplest, quickest route. Get out there and hit the pavement. See what you can find. Times are tough and competition for good jobs is fierce, so you need whatever edge you can get. For folks like us, we’re going to get the edge by using our magick and our spellcraft.
Thursdays have such a rich source of magick for us to draw upon that, honestly, the sky is the limit. This is the day associated with the gods of the sky and heavens, after all. Get to know these deities and add their wisdom and magick into your days

Custom Made Magick for Thursday
Well, let’s see … abundance, prosperity, and good health has been our focus for this day. Now how about a little more information and ideas for working practical magick with one of our fascinating featured deities of the day?
Juno was the Queen of Heaven. As the matriarch of the gods, she guarded over women in every aspect of their lives. Juno was thought to have renewed her virginity every year. Similar to other goddess stories, Juno was a triple goddess-a virgin who belonged to no one; a mother and woman in the prime of her life, sexual and mature; and also a crone, powerful, wise, and sometimes vengeful (as she made her husband’s many mistresses’ lives either fairly unhappy or short).
There are references to an early all-female triad of goddesses known as the Capitoline Triad. This triad consisted of Juventas, Juno, and Minerva. To the Greeks, they would have been known as Hebe, Hera, and Hecate. Ultimately the triad became Juno, Minerva, and the male Jupiter. Jupiter, another of Thursday’s gods, was Juno’s consort.
As mentioned earlier, Juno, in her aspect as Juno Moneta, was the patron and protector of the Roman mint. The coins produced at her temples were blessed by Juno and imbued with her powers of abundance and prosperity. In another of her aspects as Juno Augusta, Juno was the goddess of an abundant harvest.
In addition, another of Juno’s magickal correspondences is the semiprecious stone malachite. Malachite is a beautiful green-banded stone that was also called the “peacock stone” in Italy. The peacock was a sacred animal of Juno’s, and the magickal energies of malachite encourage health and prosperity.

The Witches Magick for Thursday, June 7 – Clear away the old with Crystals
There are many aspects of our lives which we would like to improve, but we just can’t
muster up the willpower. In your time of need, a crystal can come to your aid. You can program a crystal to help you lose weight stop smoking or overcome any negative attitudes about yourself.
For example, you want to stop eating chocolate but just can’t. You know you should stop for health reasons but you don’t have the will power. Try programming a crystal by telling it something like,
“I have completely lost any desire for chocolate.”
Wear the crystal around your neck or keep it in a pocket. Whenever you want chocolate, touch your crystal and feel the urge dissipate.
To get the most out of your crystal, you need to get the right crystal in the first place. Pick a crystal by attraction, by being drawn to touch it, and then hold it loosely in your left hand. Notice the impressions, colors, sounds, and feelings you pick up. No two crystals are the same. Each crystal has its own unique vibration, and each will resonate differently. It should feel alive in your hand, vibrate, or radiate. In other words, it should feel good.
Before you use your crystals cleanse it. The easiest way to clean your crystal is to hold it in the bright sunlight and order it to be completely cleansed. when, program it with your desired goal.
Now, you’re ready to enjoy your crystal!

Celebrating 365 Days of Legends, Folklore & Spirituality for June 7
Thargelia
Held on the sacred island of Delos in ancient Greece, the Thargelia honored Apollo and Artemis. This was a festival of prophecy, music, medicine, and poetry. There were processions, offerings of first fruits, and elaborate musical contests. A youth, with both living parents, was chosen to carry an olive branch, entwined with white and purple wool and hung with figs, acorns, and a vessel of wine to the sanctuary of Apollo. This elaborate offering stayed in the shrine until the next Thargelia, at which time it was replaced by a new branch, adorned with fresh fruits and wine.

Common Symbols All Witches Should Know
Circle – The circle is a gathering symbol. It surrounds the item(s) inside, joins items together, and gives them a wall of protection. This being one of the most universal and useful of symbols, it is well to meditate on the multitudes of uses the circle has within magical applications.
Crossroads – Shown as a hollow equal-armed cross, the crossroads represent the center of the world. It is the place where living beings can meet with the spirits of the dead and it is also a symbol of Hecate.
Hexagram – The hexagram is made of two triangles united. The triangle with upwards point symbolizes the masculine and the downward triangle the feminine. This is an ancient symbol of sexual union that was used long before it became the Jewish symbol.
Nine-Pointed Star – The nine-pointed star is made using three triangles, overlapping each other to form the star. Each triangle symbolizes the three trinities: Maiden, Mother, Crone; Youth, Father, Sage; and God (masculine), Goddess (feminine), Spirit. An ultimate symbol of unity. It is also called Star of the Muses.
Square – The square is the joining of four. It is often used as a symbol of Earth, the elements, and the directions.
Triangle – The triangle is a uniting symbol of trinity: Maiden, Mother, Crone; Youth, Father, Sage; Spirit, Self, Deity.

The Witches Astronomy Guide for Thursday, June 7

Resolution of A Witch
May I be as the one who weaves the cloth in a forest, deep hidden.
May I sit at the work, uninterrupted.
And may I remain an outcast, if that is what it takes.
May I know the seasonal procession in my spirit and in my body,
Celebrate cross quarters, solstices and equinoxes.
May each Full Moon find me looking upwards,
At trees outlined in luminous sky.
May I hold wildflowers.
May I cup them in my hand.
May I then release them, unpicked,
To live on in abundance.
May my friends be of the kind who are at ease with silence.
May they and I be innocent of pretension.
May I be capable of gratitude.
May I know that I was given joy, like mother’s milk.
May I know this as my dog does, in her bones and blood.
May I speak the truth about happiness and pain,
In songs that sound of the scent of rosemary,
As everyday and ancient, kitchen-herb strong.
May I not incline to self-righteousness or self-pity.
May I approach the high earthworks and the stone circles as fox or moth,
And disturb the place no more than that.
May my gaze be direct and my hand steady.
May my door be open to those who dwell outside wealth and fame and privilege.
May those who have never walked barefoot never find the path that leads up to my door.
May they be lost on the labyrinthine journey.
May they turn back.
And may I sit beside the fire in winter and see in the glowing logs what is to come.
Yet never feel the need to warn or to advise, unasked.
May I sit upon a plain wooden chair, in true contentment.
May the place where I live be as the forest.
May there be track ways where there are caves and pools.
Trees and flowers, animals and birds are all known to me and revered, loved.
May my existence change the world no more nor less,
Than the gusting of winds, or the proud growth of trees.
For this, I go in cast-off clothes.
May I keep faith, always.
May I never find excuses for the expedient.
May I know that I have no choice, and yet still make the choice.
As the song is made, in joy, and with consideration.
May I make the same choice every day, again.
When I fail, may I know forgiveness for myself.
May I dance naked, unafraid to face my own reflection.

Your Daily Overview of the Planets, Stars and Sky for June 7
The Sun and Neptune perfect their square early today, and we can feel temporarily without a clear direction, or there may be detours or distractions to deal with now. We are reminded to tend to any overlooked spiritual needs before pushing forward. As the day advances, we’re in an excellent place to team up with others to generate ideas, solve problems, or listen to one another and “be heard.” Mental rapport assists our efforts today, and we’re taking pride in our ideas and observations now. This is a good time to bring unique elements to our work. New techniques or options can emerge as we open our minds to them.
The Moon continues its transit of Pisces until 5:26 PM EDT, after which it moves through Aries, and the urge to start fresh is with us. The Moon’s alignment with Chiron this evening can pull up the need to deal with unresolved emotional matters.
The Moon is void from 2:36 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Venus), until the Moon enters Aries at 5:26 PM EDT.

The sky this week for June 7 to June 10
Thursday, June 7
Jupiter reached opposition and peak visibility about a month ago, and it remains a stunning sight nearly all night. It appears some 30° high in the south-southeast during evening twilight and climbs highest in the south shortly before 11 p.m. local daylight time. Shining at magnitude –2.4, the giant planet is the night sky’s brightest point of light once Venus sets around 11 p.m. Jupiter resides among the background stars of Libra the Scales, 1° north of Zubenelgenubi (Alpha [α] Librae). If you view the gas giant through a telescope tonight, its disk spans 44″ and displays spectacular cloud-top detail. You’ll also see its bright moons put on a nice show. Ganymede lies in Jupiter’s shadow in early evening, but it gradually returns to view between Io and Callisto. At 12:40 a.m. EDT, Io and Callisto appear 25″ apart southeast of the planet. If you watch the space between these moons, you’ll see Ganymede emerge into sunlight starting at 12:43 a.m. It return to full visibility by 1:02 a.m.
Friday, June 8
Venus passes 5° due south (lower left) of 1st-magnitude Pollux this evening. The planet has brightened slightly (to magnitude –4.0) since early in the week, and shines 100 times brighter than the star.
Saturday, June 9
Another comet in the growing crowd of such objects discovered by the Pan-STARRS telescope in Hawaii makes its appearance in June’s morning sky. Comet PANSTARRS (C/2016 M1) currently glows around 9th magnitude within the Teapot asterism of the constellation Sagittarius, and you’ll need a telescope to spot its subtle glow. As a bonus both today and tomorrow, the comet slides about 40′ from the 8th-magnitude globular star cluster M54. Your best views will come from under a dark sky when Sagittarius climbs highest between 2 and 3 a.m. local daylight time.
Sunday, June 10
The conspicuous Summer Triangle asterism dominates the eastern sky in late evening. Vega, the triangle’s brightest member, shines at magnitude 0.0 and stands highest of the three stars. To its lower left lies Deneb; at magnitude 1.3, it is the faintest of the trio. Magnitude 0.8 Altair resides at the bottom right and completes the bright asterism. Despite its name, the Summer Triangle appears prominent from late spring until winter begins.

In the Sky This Month
June 7: Menkent
From the southern latitudes of the United States, the upper half of Centaurus, the centaur, stands due south at nightfall. The brightest star in that part of the constellation is Menkent, the centaur’s shoulder.
June 8: IC 4665
The star cluster IC 4665 is a quarter of the way up the sky as it gets dark. It stands to the lower right of the brightest star of Ophiuchus the serpent-bearer. Under really dark skies, the cluster is barely visible to the unaided eye.
June 9: Serpens
The sky is divided into 88 constellations. One of them is split into two disconnected parts. Serpens, the serpent, consists of a head and a tail. Serpens is in full view in the east and southeast by a couple of hours after sunset.
June 10: Leaping Gazelle
In western culture, the stars of the Big Dipper and those around it form the great bear, Ursa Major. The dipper is his body and tail, and three faint pairs of stars represent his feet. In ancient Arabia, those stars represented the leaps of a gazelle.
June 11: Venus and Gemini
Venus, the “evening star,” is climbing a little higher into the sky each night. Tonight, the brilliant planet lines up with the twins of Gemini. The brighter star, Pollux, is closer to Venus, with Castor farther along the same line.
June 12: Scutum
A small, faint “shield” of stars climbs high across the southern sky on June nights. The constellation Scutum represents the coat of arms on the shield of John Sobieski, a 17th-century king of Poland and one of that country’s greatest heroes.

Your Daily Cosmic Calendar for Thursday, June 7
The current void lunar cycle in Pisces has a 14 hour duration — half the length of the previous one.
However, it is advisable to be completing odds and ends rather than launching any new, important activities until the moon enters fiery Aries (2:27pm). During the void zone, conceive of helpful ways to empower loved ones as Mars makes an inspirational, 72-degree contact with Juno (12:13am) while Mercury follows with a resourceful 60-degree alliance with Juno (1:10pm).
Parent-child relationships require extra attention during a potent, 135-degree link between Ceres in Leo and Saturn in Capricorn (3:37pm). Tune into feelings of déjà vu and strengthen your psychic abilities as the moon makes its monthly union with higher-dimension encouraging centaur Chiron (6:25pm). Find new ways to develop your leadership credentials without offending others via egocentric power plays.
[Note to readers: All times are now calculated for Pacific Daylight Time. Be sure to adjust all times according to your own local time so the alignments noted above will be exact for your location.]

Earth Sky News for June 7: Find the Summer Triangle

June is here. In the Northern Hemisphere, the days are long, the sun is at its most intense for the year, and the weather is warm, but not as warm as it will be later this summer. And the summer sky is with us, too. The famous Summer Triangle is ascending in the eastern sky on these June evenings.
The Summer Triangle isn’t a constellation. It’s an asterism, or noticeable pattern of stars. This pattern consists of three bright stars in three separate constellations – Deneb in the constellation Cygnus the Swan, Vega in the constellation Lyra the Harp, and Altair in the constellation Aquila the Eagle.
Learn to recognize the Summer Triangle asterism now, and you can watch it all summer as it shifts higher in the east, then finally appears high overhead in the late northern summer and early northern autumn sky.
How to find the Summer Triangle. As night falls in June or July, look east for a sparkling blue-white star. That will be Vega, in Lyra. Reigning at the apex of the celebrated Summer Triangle, Vega is also the brightest of the Summer Triangle’s three stars, which all are bright enough to be seen from many light-polluted cities.
Look to the lower right of Vega to locate the Summer Triangle’s second brightest star. That’s Altair, the brightest star in the constellation Aquila the Eagle. A ruler held at an arm’s length fills the gap between these two stars.
Look to the lower left of Vega for another bright star – Deneb, the brightest in the constellation Cygnus the Swan and the third brightest in the Summer Triangle. An outstretched hand at an arm’s length approximates the distance from Vega to Deneb.
It’s difficult to convey the huge size of the Summer Triangle asterism. But you’ll see it. These three bright stars – Vega, Deneb and Altair – will become summertime favorites.
Summer Triangle as a road map to the Milky Way. If you’re lucky enough to be under a dark starry sky on a moonless night, you’ll see the great swath of stars passing in between the Summer Triangle stars Vega and Altair. The star Deneb bobs in the middle of this river of stars, which arcs across dark summer skies. This sky river is, of course, the edgewise view into our own Milky Way galaxy. Although every star that you see with the unaided eye is a member of the Milky Way, at this time of year we can see clearly into the galaxy’s flat disk, where most of the stars congregate. By August and September, we have a good view toward the galaxy’s center.
Once you master the Summer Triangle, you can always locate the Milky Way on a clear, dark night. How about making the most of a dark summer night to explore this band of stars – this starlit boulevard with its celestial delights? Use binoculars to reel in the gossamer beauty of it all, the haunting nebulae and bejeweled star clusters along the starlit trail.
Summer Triangle as nature’s seasonal calendar. The Summer Triangle serves as a stellar calendar, marking the seasons. When the stars of the Summer Triangle light up the eastern twilight dusk in middle to late June, it’s a sure sign of the change of seasons, of spring giving way to summer. However, when the Summer Triangle is seen high in the south to overhead at dusk and early evening, the Summer Triangle’s change of position indicates that summer has ebbed into fall.
A word about asterisms. As we mentioned above, asterisms aren’t constellations; they’re just patterns on the sky’s dome. Constellations generally come to us from ancient times. In the 1930s, the International Astronomical Union officially drew the boundaries of the 88 constellations we recognize today.
Meanwhile, you can make up and name your own asterisms, in much the same way you can recognize shapes in puffy clouds on a summer day.
Some asterisms are so obvious that they’re recognized around the world. The Summer Triangle is one of these.
Bottom line: Watch for the Summer Triangle, a large pattern made of three bright stars. On June and July evenings, you’ll find it in the east at nightfall. It swings high overhead in the wee hours after midnight and sits in the west at daybreak.

The Greek & Roman Gods/Goddesses
THE GREEK & ROMAN GODS/GODDESSES
A quick overview by Thomas Palmer
APOLLO – Also called Phoebus, the bright one. Identified with the sun. Said to be the most powerful of the Gods. Son of Zeus and Leto. Born on Delos, taken North and raised by the hyperboreans, he went to Delphi and killed the dragon Python, guardian of the oracle of Themis, but a ravager of the countryside.
Tall, handsome, outstanding in word and deed, he was the god of ever-renewed youth, archetype of virile beauty and masculine virtue. He was also known as a seducer & extremely arrogant. Talented in music, inventor of the lyre, he was the inspiration of poets and soothsayers. His oracles were expressed in verse.
He could cure illness and banish evil. He was a doctor who knew the purification rites and was invoked against plague. His image was set at dangerous places for protection (Lighting the ways) Nothing escaped his vision (light of day).
ARIES (MARS) – Son of Hera, born without male assistance. He was a supreme fighter, loved battle and cared little about issues, switching sides without scruple. He delighted in massacres.
He was god of war, not victory, and was thoughtless about winning, only fighting. Was on occasion disarmed by Athena, Goddess of restraint and forethought, to keep him from interfering in battles that did not concern him.
He was prolific in love, but also a rapist. He was run by his passions.
CRONOS (SATURN) – Son of Uranus (Heaven) and Gaea (Earth). Gaea, worn out by numerous pregnancies, requested to be free of this burden, so Cronos (Saturn) took up a sickle and cut off his father’s testicles.
His wife was Rhea, and he fathered Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, Poseidon and Zeus. Was eventually deposed by Zeus.
His festivals, the Saturnalia, were a time of liberation and freedom for all and got pretty wild. They were celebrated from Dec. 17th until the new year. Saturn is the archetype for “father time”.
DIONYSUS – Son of Zeus and Semele. His escort was satyrs and marginally sane gods. He did not respect laws or customs, loved disguises, wild screaming, licentious dances and wild places. He was a drunken god with no home, living in the wild and eating raw meat. He encouraged excesses of all kinds.
Hera hated Dionysus because of Zeus’s infidelity and hounded him. She caused him to be killed by the Titans, but he was resurrected through the efforts of Athena, Zeus, Apollo, and Rhea. She drove him mad, but through Cybele he gained mastery of it. He drove many people mad for various reasons.
EROS (CUPID) – A primordial god, contemporary of Chaos, who existed before Cronos (Saturn) and Zeus. He came out of an egg that formed the earth and sky when it broke in two. He precipitated the embraces of Gaea (the Earth) and Uranus (the heavens), which resulted in the birth of Oceanus, Tethys, Coeus, and Cronos (Saturn). The Earth and heavens were so tightly embraced that none of the children could rise towards the light until Cronos (Saturn) castrated his father.
Cupid was associated with Aphrodite, who moderated his power. Where he was desire, instinct and violent sex, she was grace, tenderness and sweet pleasure.
Cupid made people lose their reason and paralyzed their wills, even inspiring Zeus to capricious sexual desires. As Eros he is said to be the child of Porus (Expedience) and Penia (Poverty). Like Penia, he was said to always be in search of something, and like Porus, he always found a means of attaining his aims.
FAUNUS – A Roman God, Son of Circe and Jupiter. Protector of the Roman peoples, he lived on Palatine Hill in Rome. His oracle was given in nightmares. Lupercalia was his festival, during which his priests ran through the streets with leather straps and struck any women they met with them to bestow health and fertility. The women were said to strip themselves to be better targets. He reproduced himself in the satyrs.
HADES (PLUTO) – Son of Cronos (Saturn), brother of Zeus and Poseidon. When the world was divided between the three brothers, the underworld and hell fell to Hades, while Zeus took the heavens and Poseidon the seas. He had a helmet that made him invisible. He ruled the dead, and forbade his subjects to leave his domain. He desired Persephone, but Zeus forbade the marriage. He then kidnapped her.
HEPHAESTUS (VULCAN) – Son of Zeus and Hera. He was lame, either because his mother, startled by his ugliness, dropped him, or because Zeus, angry that he took his mother’s side in a dispute, threw him from Olympos. He dwelled among mortals and became the god of black smithing and artistic metal work. He made a golden throne that imprisoned any who sat in it, and gave it to Hera to avenge himself for his fall from Olympos.
HERMES (MERCURY) – Son of Zeus and the nymph Maia. He stole some of Apollo’s cattle shortly after his birth and concealed them, sacrificing two to the Olympian Gods. This theft won him recognition as a God himself. When Apollo discovered the theft and Hermes was tried, his defense was so skillful and spirited that Zeus laughed and ruled that there should be a friendly settlement between the brothers.
Hermes was God of the spoken word and oratory and was the intermediary between
the Gods and men. Also the God of commerce and contracts, where language must be
precise to convey the correct meaning.
JANUS- ROMAN – The Two faced God. He was God of beginnings and presided over new
undertakings, gateways and initiations. He was revered as the first king of Rome and made order reign. His temple was left open in wartime so the God could act, but was closed in peace.
THE LARES – Roman – Twin children of Mercury by the rape of Lara. They protected
the land. Were symbolized by two boys and a dog.
PAN – Half man, half goat, with horns on his brow and lust in his eyes. Son of Hermes and a daughter of the Dryops, he was the God of pastoral regions and wilderness. Special friend of shepherds, he guided and protected them from afar. Protector of all wild things and places. His pipes had an aphrodisiac effect on those who heard them and induced mating.
Pan was a lecher and a drunk who constantly pursued nymphs who would flee in terror. Caves rang with their cries when he caught them. He was famous for his rages, where he attacked anyone who got in his way. His irrational behavior led people to flee him in “panic.” He was dangerous when he took possession of a being. The possessed, or panoleptic, took on his bearing and would wander in the wild, laugh madly, or throw themselves on others for sex without respect to gender, or have epileptic fits.
POSEIDON (NEPTUNE) – Son of Cronos (Saturn) and Rhea, he is represented wielding a trident and being pulled by monsters in a chariot. After Zeus’s victory over Cronos (Saturn), the young gods, who preferred life on earth, divided the various domains of earth. Poseidon chose the seas. He represented the hidden forces of germination and death. Together with his wife Amphitrite, he had powerful ties with Gaea, the Earth, mother of the Titans. As subterranean Gods, they shook the world from inside.
Poseidon caused earthquakes when he made love to his wife. The mystery isle of Atlanta belonged to Poseidon. Poseidon could provoke storms, set fire to rocks on shore and create springs of water. He had many children, most wicked and violent, like the Cyclops of the Oddessy.
PRIAPUS – A small god with a penis of immense size. Son of Zeus and Aphrodite, he was deformed by Hera in revenge. Aphrodite abandoned him in fear that she would be ridiculed for her ugly child. He began as a symbol of fertility, but of no significance. Although he was oversized, he was impotent. He seemed to fail at everything he tried. He was compared to an ass and ridiculed. He lent his name to the disease priapism, an incurable illness where the penis remains painfully erect but incapable of ejaculation. Ended up as an obscure gnome.
QUIRINUS – A Roman warrior god originally, he became a god who watched over the well being of the community, opposite to his former nature. Called an apparition of Romulus the founder of Rome.
ZEUS (JUPITER) – Son of Cronos (Saturn) and Rhea. He defeated Cronos (Saturn) in a ten year battle and then divided the realms with his brothers by lot, getting the heavens for his own. He was ruler and judge, the arbiter of disputes among Gods and men. His decisions were just and well balanced, showing no favoritism. He had several wives and many lovers, earning the title “all father” or “father god”. His infidelity caused much strife on Olympos and in the world through he raging of his wife, Hera.
GODDESSES
APHRODITE (VENUS) – Daughter of Zeus and Dione according to Homer. ‘The Woman Born Of The Waves’ according to Hesiod, born of the foam impregnated by the sexual organs of Uranus, which Cronos (Saturn) had severed and thrown into the sea. Plato identifies these as two separate Aphrodites. One Urania, the daughter of Uranus was goddess of pure love. The other, called Pandemos, (Root of pandemonium?) was the Goddess of ‘common’ love. She married Hephaestus, but was unfaithful with Aries.
Aries was caught and humiliated. Aphrodite fled in shame to Cyprus, and there took Thrace as lover, resulting in the birth of Eros (Love), Anteros (Love in return), Deimos and Phobos (Terror and Fear). She also was a lover of Adonis, a human shepherd named Anchises who fathered Aneas, of Hermes and of Dionysus who fathered Priapus. She was known for jealousy. She made Eos (Dawn) fall in love with Orion in spite for her seduction of Aries. She punished all who did not succumb to her. A beauty competition between Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite was proposed by Eris (Discord) with the prize being a golden apple. It was judged by the human Paris. All the Goddesses offered him bribes to win.Aphrodite offered Helen, most beautiful of all Humans. She won and thus caused the Trojan War. Eros was the primordial god of instinct. When Aphrodite appeared he adapted himself and joined forces with her. At this time the sexes became distinct. Aphrodite’s kingdom was the place of desire. Young girls were said to pass from the place of Artemis (chastity and games) to the place of Aphrodite, where they become women. Considered by some to be an affliction or madness that women must bear. She represents female lust and passion, and demonstrates its potential for destructive effect. Young girls gave their virginity to the Goddess by living in her temples and offering themselves to passing strangers.
ARTEMIS (DIANA) – Daughter of Zeus and Leto. The huntress, she is seen as the forever young goddess. She is proud of her shapeliness and keeps her virginity to protect it. She was a warrior, joining Apollo to kill Python and other exploits. Anyone who offended her or tried to win her virginity paid dearly. They were killed, transformed, or mutilated. She defended modesty and punished illicit love and excesses. She avenged rape. She also took out her anger on those virgins who gave in to love. She did not mind marriage, but when a virgin married she was to give up all the things of childhood, toys and dolls, locks of hair, etc., leaving them on her altar.
ATHENA (MINERVA) – Daughter of Zeus and Metis. Metis was swallowed by Zeus, and when it was time for Diana’s birth, he had Hephaestus crack open his skull and she came forth in full armor shouting a war cry. Also a virgin Goddess, she lived among men without fear due to her warrior’s skills. She was the protectress of Odysseus and other men. She was a warrior who used strategy, ambush, cunning, and magic rather than brute force. Her shield bore the head of a gorgon and she paralyzed her adversaries and made her companions invincible. She was against excess, both in war and every day life. She taught men to control their savagery and to tame nature. Was the initiator of all skills. Taught Pandora to weave, trained horses and invented the chariot. She was the
patroness of blacksmiths and carpenters. She built the first ship and the boat of the Argonauts.
CYBELE – Was born as Agditis, a hermaphrodite monster, from a stone fertilized by Zeus. The Gods decided to mutilate him (?) and made the Goddess Cybele from him. Her love for Attis, a human shepherd, drove him insane and he castrated himself for her. Her priests were eunuchs dressed as women. It is from the temple of Cybele that the reference in the Wiccan Charge of the Goddess to “At mine Altars, the youths of Lacedæmon in Sparta made due sacrifice.”, comes.
DEMETER (CERES) – Daughter of Cronos (Saturn) and Rhea, the Goddess of corn and grain. Demeter bore Persephone. She renounced her duties as goddess and began a fast and went into exile from Olympos when her daughter was abducted into the under-world until her daughter should be returned to her. She caused the spread of the know-ledge of the cultivation of corn.
During her exile the earth became barren until Zeus demanded that Hades return Persephone. She had eaten from a pomegranate, however, and was forever bound to the underworld. As a compromise, she was allowed to rise up into the world with the first growth of spring and return to the underworld at seed sowing in fall. And so the Earth is barren in the winter, while Demeter mourns, and becomes fruitful again when Persephone is released. Demeter made herself known to the children of Eleusis, who raised her a temple and instituted the Eleusinian mysteries. In Sept.-Oct., the candid-ates for initiation purified themselves in the sea, then processed down the sacred path from Athens to Eleusis. The rites remain secret, but involve a search for a mill for grind-ing corn, and a spiritual experience. During the rites, men women and slaves were all treated as equal.
ERINYES, THE – Alecto, Tisiphone, and Megaara. They were born from drops of blood that fell from Uranus’s severed Penis, and did not recognize the authority of the gods of Olympos. They hounded and tortured their victims, driving them mad. Also called the Eumenides, The Good Ones, to divert their wrath. Assimilated by the Romans as the uries. They were implacable and demanded punishment for every murder. To them murder was a stain. The murderer had to be banished and driven mad before purifica-tion could occur. They were blind and carried out their punishments indefinitely.
HARPIES – Greek genii/spirits- Daughters of Thaumes and Electra: Nicotho or swift-footed, Ocypete or swift of flight, and Celaeno, the dark one. Were either women with wings or birds with the heads of women. Called the ‘hounds of Zeus’ and seized children and souls. Skillful at torture, they could pester a victim into madness.
HERA (JUNO) – Daughter of Cronos (Saturn) and Rhea brought up by Oceanus and Tethys. Married Zeus. It was claimed that each year Hera regained her virginity by bathing in the spring of Canathus. According to some traditions Hephaestus, Aries, and Hebe (Youth) were conceived by her alone without male assistance. As Zeus’ legitim-ate wife, her fury at his infidelities was boundless, and she took vengeance on his lovers and any progeny of the affair without distinction. Zeus was often reduced to hiding or disguising his children to protect them.
HESTIA/VESTA – Daughter of Cronos (Saturn) and Rhea. Goddess of the hearth, she had the privilege of retaining her virginity forever. Her symbol was the fire, which was never allowed to go out. The young bride and newborn child were presented to her and she was invoked before each meal. Her temple in Rome was served by the young vestal virgins.
MOERAE (PARCAE) – The Three Fates. Atropos, Clotho, Lachesis, daughters of Zeus and Themis. The first spins a thread symbolizing birth. The second unravels it, symbolizing life’s processes, and the third cuts it, symbolizing death. They too were blind and ruled destiny. They were also symbols of a limit which could not be overstepped. Were connected to their sisters, the furies, who punished crime.
MUSES – Nine daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne (Memory). Calliope ruled epic poetry, Clio ruled history, Polyhymnia mime, Euterpe the flute, Terpsichore dance, Erarto lyric art, Melpomene tragedy, Thalia comedy and Urania astronomy. They delighted the Gods and inspired poets. The Muses created what they sang about. By praising the gods, they completed their glory, by boasting of valiant warriors, they wrote their names in history. They were celebrated by the Pythagoreans as the keepers of the knowledge of harmony.NEMESIS – Daughter and Night. Ruled over the distribution of wealth, looked after balance, took revenge on arrogance and punished excess, including excessive happiness, riches and power. Moderation in all things was her creed.
NYMPHS – Daughter of Zeus and usually part of a greater god(esses) entourage. Not immortal, though long lived. Mostly lived in caves. Were dark powers whose beauty alone could lead to madness. Were seducers of many of the gods. Were considered secondary deities.
THETIS – Daughter of the old man of the sea. Very beautiful. Mother of Achilles. Saved Zeus from a plot to overthrow him and was an ally of Hera. Saved the Argonauts as they passed between the clashing rocks.
